Re:that post about invasive mints and the addition about outcompeting them with related plants, you can look up native lamiaceae species if you're still worried about replacing one invasive species with another! If you live in the USA, uswildflowers.com lets you search by state, and if you wanna narrow your search results even more, look up [plant family] native to your ecoregion!

There are different-level ecoregional maps for each state too--

--and some species only occur in the wild within unique subregions. For example, there's a Brazos mint, or rattlesnake flower, that only grows in sandy soil within the post oak belt in Texas, and the post oak savannahs only show up within the east central Texas plains on a level IV-inclusive map.

And I dunno about anyone else, but there's something special about meeting some of your more exclusive neighbors.

After two decades of biological surveys and over 30 scientific expeditions, groundbreaking research in southern Africa has unearthed a wealth of previously undocumented biodiversity in a newly recognized ecoregion. The research has involved around 100 specialists from around the world, the results of which are published in the Scientific Reports. The findings are so significant that scientists from across the world have officially proposed the area as a new ecoregion—the South East Africa Montane Archipelago (SEAMA). The mountains stretch across northern Mozambique to Mount Mulanje in Malawi, southern Africa's second highest mountain.

I figured I'd post this here, too! People on Twitter were discussing where each clan would be if the USA was divided into the clans, so I decided to do my take on it. More info below the cut!! ( ´∀｀ )b

Please keep in mind that I wasn't going for 1:1 accuracy. I study ecology and environmental science, so I'm not pulling this out of my ass! I was mainly going for the borders of level 1 (and a bit of 2) ecoregions as my primary inspiration. I also tried to make the land distribution somewhat even, so some states that might've fared a bit better in another clan might be in a different one for this reason.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10, A+, 100%

If you're a fan of the cold and Nothofagus trees like I am, then this is the ecoregion for you!

I imagine this is what Antarctica looked like before it froze over.

Bonus points for Monito del Montes, which are actually more closely related to the Australian marsupials than the American ones which is really cool.
