Supporting Palestinian businesses and artisans by purchasing their products is an excellent way to directly contribute to the Palestinian economy and help preserve traditional crafts. Here are some ways you can do this:
Purchase Handmade Crafts
Many Palestinian artisans create beautiful handmade products that showcase traditional skills and cultural heritage:
Embroidered items like cushion covers, bags, and clothing
Olive wood carvings and decorative objects
Handmade ceramics and pottery
Traditional keffiyeh scarves
Jewelry featuring Palestinian designs
Purchasing these items helps support artisans and their families while preserving cultural traditions[1][3].
Buy Palestinian Food Products
Look for authentic Palestinian food products like:
Olive oil from Palestinian groves
Za'atar spice blends
Dates and other dried fruits
Traditional sweets and pastries
Many of these products are available through fair trade organizations or specialty stores[6].
Support Women's Cooperatives
Many Palestinian women's cooperatives produce handicrafts and other goods. Purchasing from these groups helps empower women economically:
Women in Hebron fair trade collective
Beit Doqo Development Society
Ma'an lil Hayyat in Bethlehem[3][4]
Shop from Online Marketplaces
Several online marketplaces specialize in Palestinian products:
Handmade Palestine
Sunbula
Shop Palestine
These sites connect artisans directly with international customers[2][6][7].
Purchase Art and Books
Support Palestinian culture by buying:
Art prints and original works by Palestinian artists
Books by Palestinian authors and about Palestinian history/culture
This helps preserve and promote Palestinian artistic and literary traditions[3].
By making conscious choices to purchase Palestinian products, you can directly support artisans, small businesses, and the broader Palestinian economy while acquiring unique, handcrafted items. This economic support helps Palestinians maintain their livelihoods and cultural heritage despite challenging circumstances[4].

Clearview AI is a facial recognition company that has created a database of billions of facial images scraped from social media and other online sources. This technology has raised significant privacy and ethical concerns globally. The "Red Wolf" system you mentioned is reportedly being used by Israeli forces in the West Bank. According to human rights organizations, it's used for surveillance and movement control of Palestinians. The system allegedly: Uses facial recognition and other biometric data Tracks movements through checkpoints Is integrated with a broader network of cameras and databases Human rights groups like Amnesty International have criticized these practices as violations of privacy rights and freedom of movement. A heads up for the cosplay community that SiliNOT! (a reusable, compostable silicone alternative for moldmaking) is having a buy-two-get-one-free sale, so if you want to try out a new material, it's a good time to buy!
I haven't used this myself yet, but I've just placed an order for both the mold-making medium and the skin SFX version, and will report back with a review once I've had a chance to play with it. I love working with silicone, but I am all in favor of more eco-friendly options, so hopefully this will work well!

Bamboo vs. Plastic: Why Bamboo is the Superior Eco-Friendly Choice
Choosing Better for a Greener Tomorrow
In today's world, the impact of our daily choices on the environment is really important. One simple way to help is by choosing the right products. Bamboo items are becoming popular because they're better for the environment than plastic.
Let's explore the reasons why bamboo products are better choice for the environment -
1. Eco-Friendly Production:
Bamboo is a plant that grows super fast. It can grow up to three feet in just one day! This makes bamboo a renewable resource. On the other hand, plastic is made from things like oil, which will eventually run out. By using bamboo, we can reduce how much we depend on these limited resources.
2. Biodegradable and Compostable:
Plastic takes hundreds of years to break down. This leads to pollution in our oceans and landfills. But bamboo is different. When you throw away bamboo products, they break down naturally over time. This means less waste and less harm to the environment.
3. Reduced Carbon Footprint:
Bamboo forests are great at absorbing carbon dioxide, which is a gas that contributes to climate change. They also release more oxygen than regular trees. This helps to make our air cleaner and healthier. Plus, making bamboo products uses less energy compared to making plastic items, which helps reduce pollution.
4. Versatility and Durability:
Bamboo is a versatile material that can be used to make a wide range of products, from utensils to furniture. It's also strong and durable, making it a long-lasting choice compared to single-use plastic items.
Read: What Things in a Stationery Kit?
5. Chemical-Free and Safe:
Bamboo products are often chemical-free and safe for use, making them a healthier option for you and the environment. Plastic, on the other hand, can leach harmful chemicals into food and the environment.
6. Support for Sustainable Practices:
By choosing bamboo products, you're supporting sustainable practices and industries that prioritize the health of the planet. This can help drive positive change towards a more sustainable future.

Alternative and DIY non-toxic toilet bowl cleaners and disinfectants
"Although DIY-ing your toilet bowl cleaner won’t put a surprising amount of money back in your pocket with every batch, it will provide a safe and natural solution for stains at a reasonable price. [...] DIY toilet bowl cleaner is safer for you to use and friendlier to nature when it eventually finds its way back into the environment than most toilet bowl cleaning products. That said, homemade cleaners can still be hazardous to your health if you don’t take commonsense precautions to protect your eyes and skin when mixing or using them. Wear gloves and safety glasses or goggles when mixing your batch of toilet bowl cleaner, and be sure to store any extra cleaner in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid, out of the reach of children."
Author's tips for using this recipe:
"Disinfect the brush. [...] After use, soak it in vinegar overnight to kill any bacteria lurking in its bristles".
"[...] Disinfect [the toilet tank] by pouring a cup of your homemade cleaner [...] letting it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, and then flushing several times."
"[...] If you have stubborn hard water stains that won’t come off with a standard cleaning, you can use a pumice stone to scrub them clean."
"[...] One thing I usually recommend as a way to save money and have to worry about less ingredients is to just use less products. You don’t need a separate cleaner for your toilet… You can just use a safe all-purpose or bathroom cleaner! That said, I know that some folks just prefer to use separate cleaners for their toilet [...] That’s why I’ve included some recommendations for those below as well. 👍"
"[...] Some ingredients commonly used in toilet bowl cleaners you’ll want to avoid when possible include: Ammonia, Antibacterials (including “quats” and things that end in “cide,” which are usually pesticides), Bleach, Fatty alcohols (This is common in conventional toilet bowl drop-in tablets and the automatic tablets you hook on the side of the bowl, which is part of what makes many drop-in toilet bowl cleaners unsafe.), Formaldhyde releasers (such as methenamine), Hydrochloric acid (which is different than hypochlorous acid), PEGs & other ethoxylated ingredients, Undisclosed “fragrance“, Unnecessary dyes (like the ones that turn your toilet water blue)"
Author's note against excessive anti-bacterial usage in bathroom cleaning:
"One of the biggest problems with antibacterials and disinfectants is that they contribute to antibiotic resistance. This is become a serious problem that leads to millions of deaths each year. Depending on the specific ingredient, other problems associated with antibacterials in general include aquatic toxicity, microbiome disruption, endocrine disruption, reproductive harm, cancer, asthma, and skin/respiratory irritation."
The author then lists brands to try that offer eco friendly cleaning products along with reasonable pros and cons of each product. The brands include:
Tumblr media
The DIY recipe
"This recipe comes from Julie Eigenmann! In a squeeze bottle or spray bottle, just mix together: 1 cup of water, 1/8 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup castile soap, like Dr. Bronner’s (alternatively, you can use non-toxic dishwashing liquid); Optional: you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oils if you want. Shake before each use. That’s it! 🌿"
