Through the Ages: A look at the Roguneto ship.
Age of Apocalypse (Earth 295)
Set in an alt-timeline caused by a time travelling Legion, the ancient mutant Apocalypse has taken over the world and enslaved the human race; however not all mutants agree with Apocalypse’s tyrannic reign. A team of mutant freedom fighters know as the X-Men, led by Magneto, fight to save the world from Apocalypse nefarious hold.
Rogue is a new recruit brought in by Mystique to help fight against Apocalypse. Rogue becomes Magneto’s second-in-command after both Jean Grey and Weapon X (Wolverine) leave the X-Men.
However, both Rogue and Magneto have developed romantic feelings for the other. Unbeknownst to Rogue, her current beau, Gambit, who is coincidentally Magneto’s best friend has previously commissioned Magneto to help find a way around Rogue’s powers. While interrupting a training session, Gambit asks Magneto to further research away around Rogue’s powerset. To which Magneto, knowing his own feelings for Rogue, reluctantly agrees to continue helping.
After sharing a rather intense personal moment while go over mission details, Rogue tries to speak with Magneto’s son, Pietro (Quicksilver) about her feelings for Magneto and her relationship with Gambit. Before anything could be said Gambit appears in front of the two, and after a quick exchange Rogue leaves to be by herself.
Rogue sees Gambit and Magneto speaking, about the aforementioned request, and asks to speak with Magneto alone. Once alone, Rogue reveals that to Magneto that she has feelings for him but doesn’t know if it’s right to act on them. Magneto reveals that while working on a way to neutralize Rogue’s powers, he discovered that he can create a biomagnetic shield around his body to shield from the affects of Rogue’s power, possible due to Rogue having permanently absorbed the mutant Polaris who shared Magneto’s mutant power of magnetism.
Before things can be further discussed the intruder alarms blares through the X-Mansion grounds and the X-Men quickly assembles to deal with the threat.
During the fight with “Wolverine”, Rogue chooses to save a injured Magneto from being killed leaving Gambit to be taunted by Wolverine. After the battle, Gambit decides to leave the X-Men after realizing that Rogue is in love with Magneto.
An undisclosed amount of time passes and we see that Rogue and Magneto are happily married with a son named, Charles.
However, due to the mysterious mutant Bishop arriving in their world and the startling revelation that their world is not the “correct” one. Rogue, now a leader of her own team, and the remaining X-Men kick into gear and take the fight to Apocalypse in the hopes of finally putting an end to his reign of terror.
After Apocalypse is defeated, knowing their world isn’t meant to survive, Rogue, Magneto, and their son Charles stand together as a bright wave of light sweeps over them.
In the 10th anniversary special it is revealed that the world of AoA, did not in fact die, but the phoenix possessed Jean Grey had saved everyone from certain death before vanishing.
When the people awoke to see that their world still stands they mistakenly believed that Magneto, in his battle with Apocalypse, found a way to save them all. Only Magneto knew the truth of Jean Grey but it kept it a long buried secret in order to focus on ridding the world of remaining factions loyal to Apocalypse and creating a new world where human and mutants can live in harmony. This proved to be too much on his conscious over the years and when Sinister confronted him with the truth and a possessed Jean Grey herself, Magneto finally was able to clear his conscious and let himself be arrested (for lying or something, idk) leaving Jean Grey to be the leader once again.
AoA was once again revisited In Uncanny X-Force vol 1. X-Force of the 616 having traveled to AoA meet with the remaining X-Men of the world. It is now 10 years after the events of the anniversary.
Special note: There are discrepancies between the revisit to Earth 295 in X-Force and the two previous AoA stories as little matches up with the events of the special and several dead mutants from the original AoA are now mysteriously alive again and Magneto is no longer in prison or was even mentioned as being in prison.
During the Uncanny X-Force revisit, Apocalypse was revealed to be back but in the form of Weapon X (Wolverine) has become more dangerous than ever. After the 616 X-Force return home, it’s up to the AoA X-Men to deal with Weapon X. Sadly, Rogue and Magneto are killed by Weapon X before they can stop him from further destroying their world (as told in David Lapham’s 2012 AoA series).
The Relationship:
The relationship between Rogue and Magneto was very much one that was on equal footing both of them were devoted and loyal to each other to the end.
They were able to conceive and raise a son together something that would have been incredibly difficult given the structure of the world they lived in and the constant threat of attacked by the forces of Apocalypse.
Due to this constant threat Rogue became one of the leaders of her own strike team during the fight against apocalypse, something kept her away from her young son much to her disdain. Pietro, Magneto’s elder son, and Rogue became close friends and helped each other watch out for Magneto and Charles until Pietro’s death years later.
After Apocalypse was defeated and the world on the edge of re-building itself, both Rogue and Magneto were able to find a better balance between fighting the remaining apocalypse factions and raising a happy, healthy, normal 6 year old son.
Throughout everything Rogue and Magneto remained fiercely protective of each other and their son. Even after the death of a 6-7 year old Charles Lehnsherr and Magneto’s paralysis, Rogue and Magneto stayed together until their untimely deaths at the hand of Weapon X.

She is small. Scared. Running.
Running for her life.
They said it was easier if you didn't run. If you accepted their coming and went willingly, it was easier. Better. But they lied.
Or maybe they just said that to make themselves feel better.
Every muscle burns. She doesn't remember the last time she ate anything more than flavorless paste. Doesn't know when she started to be able to see the knobbly caps of her knees and the shifting bones of her wrists. She can't go on -- she falls.
Something has her by the hair. Something with claws, something that stinks of smoke and sweets and bile. She screams, kicks, beats at the hand gripping her hair, but it's feeble. Weak.
She is dragged, out of the stifling heat of the pen, into the frigid cold of the lab. She is too dehydrated even to cry; she just whimpers as she is thrown onto a table, as the cold restraints snap around her. The cold pinch of a needle enters her vein, followed by something that burns and makes her scream again.
Black.
She wakes again. She is back in the pens. She is small. She is exhausted.
She stumbles through the pen. There are places, small nooks out of sight where the slaves hide their meager belongings. Someone managed to smuggle in a knife, once. The person was long gone. The knife remained.
She grabs it. Drops to her knees, and begins hacking at her hair -- cutting off the ragged magenta locks, once collected in sweet braids tipped with bows, now a mucky, tangled mess. It fell in clumps to the ground around her; by the time she is done, she has shorn herself nearly bald, only a few inches all around her scalp in a messy, haphazard cut that hopefully
hopefully
isn't long enough to grab.

Mr. Creed rarely took her anywhere at first. She was safer at the compound, safer wherever someone could keep an eye on her -- but she had panicked the last time he'd been gone, and no one could calm her down or get anything rational out of her, so when he'd gotten the mission to take a mutant kid on the Infernal Gallop to safety in Avalon... well, it was time she started seeing how he did things. How the world worked.
She was this tiny slip of a thing in an oversized sweatshirt, clinging to Mr. Creed's shoulder as they traveled. He got looks, of course, why hadn't he left her behind? Why bring her on such a potentially dangerous mission? But he had thought maybe... maybe if she saw Avalon, maybe if she saw other kids... maybe he could leave her there.
A better life. He was no father.
He knew Raven had raised a few little ones in the jungles. Rogue had been one of her first, but there had been others. Some she raised herself, others she passed along to other mutants in the small sanctuary. This one was no different -- a little girl with wings, a faerie-like cast not dissimilar to Clarice's looks, really, and the two girls kind of hit it off, if simply holding hands and offering one another quiet support counted as 'hitting it off'.
Once they got to their destination, Raven led away the little girl -- Megan, her name was Megan -- and Victor got caught up in conversation with another of the adults. Clarice explored the area a little, she had never seen a place so green... Something was hiding in the trees. Something that was blue, with bright yellow eyes... something that was watching her.
With a start she realized it was a boy. Probably her age, maybe slightly younger. He dropped out of the tree and stared at her, head tilted to one side curiously, and she waggled her fingers in silent greeting. He didn't respond. He just pointed over her shoulder.
Victor was walking away. One foot lifted, set back down in the boat that had brought them ashore. "Mr. Creed...?" She saw him flinch, then finish the motion, lifting his other foot into the boat. She ran to the dock, stumbled on a loose board and fell, scraping her knees on the rough wood. "Mr. Creed --!!"
"No, pup. This is the best place for you."
"Don't--"
"I said no." He turned, his face contorted -- angry at her? No, it wasn't anger... "Stay, Clarice. Stay and grow up."
She scrabbled to her feet again, running to the end of the dock, trying to catch up as the boat was pulling away. Tears streamed down her cheeks, her breath heaving in sobs as she tried -- too late, she skidded to a halt, the boat just out of reach. But as she watched, she saw Mr. Creed's hand come up, pinching the top of his nose a bit.
"You can't leave me behind!"
And the thing was, he thought he had -- and he hated himself for it, hated that she was going to hate him--
B L I N K
The boat tossed a little as her feet slammed onto the shallow deck only to bowl her to the side -- he barely caught her before she tumbled overboard. But the look in her eyes as she looked up at him made him jolt, just a little.
It wasn't hatred. Not really -- she was angry, her jaw set and her brows furrowed, and though tears still flowed there was a determination in her blazing jade eyes he'd never seen before.
"You don't get to leave me behind."
He sighed, and suddenly she was crushed against his chest. "No, pup. You're right. I don't."

He could try to hide it all he wanted, but Clarice knew him too well by now. She wasn't a scared little girl anymore, he'd been training her for nigh on a decade to be a warrior, a survivor. She'd been patching up wounds since her hands were steady enough for a needle; sure he healed, but it didn't hurt to give it a little help along, especially when he came back in terrible shape.
Like today. She knew the mission had gone bad because they didn't have her teleport everyone back -- Darkholm did it, dropping everyone in a heap in the ruined gardens. Rogue's shout for help rang out, and the mansion doors banged open and help poured out. Those left behind -- Iceman, Morph, Sunfire and Clarice, along with Magnus -- rushed to get the arrivals inside, to the infirmary. There was blood everywhere.
Victor refused to be taken in, and Clarice stayed with him. "Home, pup," he grunted, and she didn't argue -- they vanished and reappeared in their humble carriage house. Kyle charged in a moment later, chain jangling as he scurried close, but Victor held up a hand and sharply pointed to the corner of the room; few on words Kyle may be, but he understood Victor's wordless orders. He was to stay back-- out of the way, until he was allowed to approach. From there it was a battle, not with an outside force but with himself. He tried not to be too gruff shrugging Clarice's hands off as she tried to help him out of his ruined uniform. Tried to ignore the way her breath caught in her throat and the smell of salt as she teared up at the state he had been left in.
"Mister Creed… those are bullet holes," she said, though of course he knew well enough. But usually, they were fighting Apocalypse's forces -- other mutants, or lasgun-equipped Madri. People just didn't use ballistics like this anymore…
at least, not mutants. Humans,, though… she shuddered to think what could have led to this. Had they run afoul of the Human High Council, drawn their ire? Would there be Sentinels on the horizon soon, come to put down the free mutant menace, regardless of how much they fought for humankind as much as for themselves?
Victor tried to lie down, but found his way blocked by one small, stubborn pink girl whose arms pushed him back toward the edge of the bed. "You'll bleed everywhere," she huffed, dragging an old plastic tarp from one of their storage lockers. God only knew where they found all this stuff, but Clarice kept pigeon-holing away all kinds of things from her foraging runs. Now, at least, that instinct was coming in handy. And yes, she was ready to cry, because his back was riddled with holes. The smaller ones were already closing, a few bullets plopped wetly on the tarp as she was gathering her materials. But some of the larger holes… they were closing up without discharging the slug that had made them.
Heal he might, but even his body couldn't break down a lead round. Already the skin was heating up. An immune system turned to a thousand degrees, trying its hardest to expel the anomaly. Eventually, it'd win out, and the slugs would either rise to the surface or shift around until they found some other way out. He'd coughed up a slug three weeks after taking it to the shoulder once. The problem was while it worked, he'd be weakened. It'd put him down for days.
Days they just didn't have.
They both knew what she'd have to do, and she was preparing herself both mentally and physically. But if she wasted any more time she was going to have it worse…
The scalpel dove into flesh, and he snarled in pain. She felt it graze something hard and allowed herself a grim smile. Her other hand already had a pair of angled forceps, and they dove into the wound. That was worse -- the tissues were already trying to close up the wound, fighting her -- but she managed to get a grip on the slug and yank it out, and Victor made another pained noise. She dropped it on the tarp and kept working, not bothering to clean up the wound; it oozed thick dark blood, a few little fragments of lead floating in the rivulet that slowed to a trickle as the hole sealed itself up.
So she went; finding hot spots, slicing through skin and muscle, digging slugs and bullets and fragments out of her guardian's body. One had lodged itself in a blood vessel and she cried out as, upon pulling the bullet from the wound she was smacked in the face with a glob of congealed blood. But she didn't stop -- couldn't, not until she knew the job was done.
Her fingers were aching. The sun was coming up. Kyle was curled up in his corner, snoring loudly.
"Think you got 'em all," Victor said, after taking mental stock of his condition. He didn't feel any more misplaced metal bits, and even if he did -- she was a wreck. Her dress, her face and hands were absolutely drenched in dry and drying blood. She looked as tired as Victor felt -- but she was still mopping blood off his body with rags dunked in a murky bowl of water. He reached out, stopping her hands. "Good enough, pup. It's good enough."
Her hands were shaking so hard in his, it sent a knife-twist of rage through him. She shouldn't have to live like this. Pulling lead out of his worthless hide -- and for what? To hopefully live another day? To possibly die tomorrow, never knowing a better world? He took a fresh rag and dunked it in the water, brushing it over her face to get the dried blood off. Leaned in and butted his forehead against hers.
"You'll be okay, right?" her voice was a thin whisper, raspy with weariness.
"Once I get some rest," he replied. "An' that'll be once you go get yerself cleaned up. G'wan." He gave her a little nudge; she hesitated, but he was already pulling himself to his feet, already setting to cleaning up the mess while he had the reserves. So she went, up to the main house where there was, at least, warm water she could clean up with.
She came back in a reasonably clean outfit from the storeroom, some shorts that were probably meant for a child and a sweatshirt that fairly swallowed her whole. Victor was already sprawled on his broad bed, not asleep but definitely dozing. Didn't matter; as soon as he knew she was there he lifted an arm, and she crawled under it, tucking herself against his chest.
Only then, did she allow herself to cry.

Earth-One Lex Luthor Traits
Sick and tired of people spreading nonsense about one of my favourite characters and denigrating the pre-crisis version of him, so I'm starting an education campaign about his character traits, particularly the ones going back to the silver age!
Questionable heroics
Source: Adventure Comics #271, Superman #164
Source: Superman #416
Silver age Lex did actually try to be a hero in Smallville, but it went wrong and he gave up. It wasn't about losing his hair (though later stories did make that conflation). But Lex occasionally doing heroic things was a theme throughout this era.
Lying and manipulation
Source: Adventure Comics #271
Source: Action Comics #544
Lex does this when he’s trying to control and manoeuvre things and get his way.
Hero-worship
Source: Adventure Comics #271
Source: Superman #416
Lashing out
Source: Superman #161, Superman #292
Source: Superman #416
While he’s known for his wider-scale cruelties, Lex also has this tendency to fall back on petty cruelty when he feels off-balance. This ranges from name-calling to visceral threats.
Jealousy and projection
Source: Adventure Comics #271
Source: Superman #386
It's never clear how aware Lex is that he's doing this, but in the post-Lexor storyline it did explicitly cross over into genuine delusion.
Emotional insecurity/abandonment issues
Source: Superman #292
Source: Action Comics #512
Lex has this tendency to undervalue or disbelieve how much he means to somebody. One issue heavily implied that this sense of abandonment was the root of why he wouldn’t believe Superboy’s entreaties to him.
Protectiveness
Source: Superman’s Girl Friend, Lois Lane #23, Action Comics #295
Source: Adventure Comics #387
Lex would be protective of specific people to the point of self-sacrifice, in particular Lena and her son Val.
Inadvertently hurting/endangering the people he wants to protect
Source: Adventure Comics #388
Source: Superman Family #214
Lex’s protectiveness was interesting because he would continue to do so even when they hated him or he made them hate him.
Spying on people
Source: Action Comics #317
Rushing into marriages
Source: Action Comics #318
Doting on children
Source: Action Comics #295, Action Comics #544
Callousness towards children
Source: Action Comics #407
The thing is not that Lex categorically protects or refuses to hurt children. He has no compunctions about threatening and traumatising them the same as he would an adult.
Preoccupation with his legacy
Source: Superman #286
Lex had a sense of pride over his villainous legacy.
Fighting with (and usually losing to) other villains
Source: Superman #286
His attempts to control, corral or dominate other villains would inevitably fail. They would often target or double-cross him as well.
Ennui
Source: The Joker #7
Source: Heroes Against Hunger
This was more subtle, but Lex being ambiguously depressed is an idea we have seen since.
Obsession as his downfall
Source: DC Special Series #5
Source: Action Comics #544
#not an exhaustive list#I deliberately left out things that I thought were self-evident or too broad#I will be making individual posts for some of these with more examples as well
