A lot is wrong with Daken, and that's why I love his character. There is so much to poke at. He's an ammoral bastard but also he's a pathetic wet cat. It's explored through both of his solo runs, but there is one particular arc I want to talk about: Dark Wolverine #82-84, or Daken's part in the Siege arc.
Quick background: Norman Osborn is attacking Asgard (for reasons, long story) with his H.A.M.M.E.R. mooks and Dark Avengers--villains and anti-heroes he has paid, manipulated, and/or blackmailed into working for him.
It's implied in several comics that Daken has trouble knowing himself, due to decades of abuse (being lied to, used, and ordered around), but in this comic it's shown so succinctly. (This is my read of it, anyway)
Daken insists his actions are his own choice. Hmm.
So it starts with the Fates being involved. They want Daken for something, but state they can't outright tell him. They can only "guide" him. So they show him glimpses of the futures, where his choices lead him to.
(they say this, but they are more involved than that)
That's only the mechanics of their powers, though. Effectively, what it gives Daken is a reset button. He makes a choice, and if the Fates don't like his choice or they want to talk to him, they reset him back to the moment before he makes the choice. He chooses differently the next time. I don't think this is him making informed decisions based on possible consequences-- it's him avoiding the consequences completely after he'd already made his choice.
So which choice is actually his and which one is the Fates manipulating him? I don't think even Daken knows. He thinks his final decision was entirely "him".
After a couple of resets, including one where Daken saves and tries to inspire the troops, he gets this:
Daken finally asks the Fates:
Same guy who told them this in the beginning:
This is already years after discovering Romulus' lies. He knows he is sick of being used. He'd been described by telepath Emma Frost as "not allowed his own thoughts".
But in the end of Siege, Daken's last decision (in line with the Fates) is a relief to him. Being told what to do, what he is, is a relief.
Someone get this man some therapy. For many reasons. (Don't get me started on the masks he wears just in these issues)

Dark Avengers: 10 Most Powerful Members in Marvel History
Marvel’s Dark Avengers team hasn’t been around for long, but its various iterations have included some of the most powerful villains and antiheroes in the Marvel Universe. First formed by Norman Osborn during his Dark Reign leadership of H.A.M.M.E.R., the Dark Avengers were an intended insult to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (Avengers), with major villains dressed as their iconic costumes.
Norman Osborn got the public’s attention on his by manufacturing his own version of heroes like Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man, often by recruiting those who hated the original heroes.
While the Dark Avengers may have been fake heroes, they were always intended as an effective strike force against the biggest threats the world had to offer, helping Norman Osborn to retain his power.
From Doctor Doom and Morgan Le Fay to the Molecule Man and the Gods of Asgard, this Supervillains team took on towering threats, rising to the occasion with earth-shaking powers.
10 Gorgon
9 Iron Patriot (Dark Avengers version of Iron Man)
8 Toxie Doxie (Dark Avengers version of Wanda Maximoff)
7 AI Apaec (Dark Avengers version of Spider-man)
6 Sueperia
5. Moonstone
4. Skaar (Son of Hulk)
3 Ragnarok (Dark Avengers version of Thor)
2 Ares
1 Sentry

Sunrise on a Manhattan Wednesday morning. All across the city, alarm clocks go off, people stir in their sleep. In the liveliest city in the world, every home, every workplace is bracing itself for day. And Avengers Tower is no exception.
Within the enormous skyscraper, Edwin Jarvis, the elderly butler quietly walks down to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for his employers. He stops. There’s a figure at the windows in the upper lobby. His six foot frame is silhouetted in the rising sunlight.
JARVIS: Good morning, Master Steven.
Steve Rogers, the former Captain America, turns to face his loyal butler.
ROGERS: God morning, Jarvis.
JARVIS: Up early again, sir?
ROGERS: I make a point of watching the sunrise as often as I can. I’ve been in hundreds of fights over the years, Jarvis. Odds are, I’ll die in one some day. I like to take a second to enjoy the beginning of a new day before we launch head-first into all the madness.
JARVIS: Very good, sir. I’ll prepare your morning espresso, shall I?
ROGERS: Thank you, Jarvis. That’d be great. And wake up Maria please.
MARIA: No need, commander.
Maria Hill, Steve’s second-in-command, enters the room. She’s already dressed in her uniform with an electronic tablet in her hand and a pistol strapped to her waist.
ROGERS: Good morning, agent. Run me through the morning’s reports.
MARIA: Yes, sir. Sharon got in touch during the night to say she’s proceeding with the final phase on that mission in Egypt, and that the team will be out of touch for twenty four hours..
ROGERS: Okay…
MARIA: Intel picked up a cell of H.A.M.M.E.R loyalists in Montana. They’ve stockpiled some of Osborn’s nastier tech, and I don’t think they’re planning on building a fort with them.
ROGERS: Put a call into Victoria Hand over at the mansion, have Luke’s team investigate.
MARIA: You got it. Oh, and Sue, Reed, Johnny and the kids are on vacation in another dimension, but Ben’s decided to stay. Guess he enjoys being an Avenger better, huh?
Steve turns and smiles.
ROGERS: Whats not to love?
Maria returns the smile. For a few seconds, neither of them speak.
ROGERS: So, who do we…
BOOM!
ROGERS: What the…?
The building shakes. Across town, a column of smoke is rising.
ROGERS: Maria! Intel, now!
At that moment, several fireballs appear in the morning sky. One by one, they crash, hitting various points of the city. Explosions are heard. The city shakes again.
ROGERS: Missiles?
MARIA: No sir. They seem to coming from space. Meteors I think!
ROGERS: A meteor shower? Of this magnitude, hitting this city, with no advance word from NASA or the Baxter Building’s satellites? I’m not buying it!
The building trembles again, with more ferocity than before.
ROGERS: Another meteor?
MARIA: No, sir. That one shook the whole city! More like an earthquake! Although the seismic readings I’m seeing here…
A new sound. Gunfire. Lots of it. Mingled with explosions and for the first time, screams.
ROGERS: Computer: on!
The dining room table in the middle of the room separates in the middle. Out of the space large flat computer screen rises.
ROGERS: Show me what the situation is in Midtown!
The screen flashes on. We see various security feeds a bustling city street, thrown into panic. Marching through the streets are these horrible, grey-skinned, humanoid creatures with yellow eyes. Each one is six foot in height with a strange kind of machine gun and are mowing down anything that moves.
Steve Rogers watched the screen intently, his temper rising. Maria Hill is too shocked and scared to speak. In spite of the maelstrom on the streets and on the screen, the room is deathly quiet.
ROGERS: Computer: initiate Stark Emergency Frequency Sigma Seventy-Two.
COMPUTER: Emergency Frequency Sigma Seventy-Two activated, Commander.
ROGERS: Maria, get me S.H.I.E.L.D, S.W.O.R.D, the military, the navy, the fire department, the ambulance services and the police on the line the second I finish here. And the President too, if he isn’t trying to reach me already.
MARIA: Yes, sir.
ROGERS: People of New York, this is Commander Steven Rogers.
All at once, the former Captain America’s face appears on every television, computer screen and phone across the city. It appears at Grand Central Station and Time Square and in the homes of families huddling together for support.
ROGERS: In the last few minutes, the city has come under attack by an as-yet unknown alien invasion party. Before we tackle this threat, our first task is to prevent any more casualties. I ask you to stay indoors and only leave your home or place of work if your life depends on it. Rescue teams are coming.
Throughout the city commuters in the subway, men and women in office buildings, customers in grocery stores and families of all races, colours and nationalities watch with fear in their hearts as Steve delivers his message.
ROGERS: If you are already outside, find somewhere safe and stay there. If you’re on our way into the city at this time, use whatever means you have and evacuate the vicinity. Once again, this is Commander Steve Rogers asking you to stay put and stay safe. God bless.
The computer screen goes blank, then lights up again as the President’s face appears on it.
PRESIDENT: Good speech, Commander. I hope you have a plan to back it up.
ROGERS: Of course, Mr. President. I want as many available armed and emergency services committed to the immediate evacuation and rescue of civilians, sir.
PRESIDENT: You got it. But what are you planning on fighting these bastards with?
ROGERS: With your leave, sir, I’d like to deploy the super heroes. If this is in fact an alien invasion, then they would be the natural front line.
PRESIDENT: Very good, Steve. And this is definitely an invasion. I’m hearing that whatever these things are, wherever they came from, they’re attacking every major city in the country, maybe even the world.
ROGERS: Yes sir. Rogers out.
Steve turns back to Maria as the screen goes black.
ROGERS: Maria, patch me through to the All-Call Frequency.
MARIA: Yes, sir.
She types something onto the tablet in her hands.
MARIA: Good to go sir.
ROGERS: Attention! This is Commander Steve Rogers issuing a code red All-Call! This is a priority alert! All metahumans respond immediately! In other words…AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!
An old idea I had for a crossover where the Marvel 616 universe gets invaded by the Locust horde from Gears of War. Stay tuned!

Earth-616 verse:
I finally sat down and tried to write Maggie's Earth-616 verse, with the little knowledge I've got about the comics and ofc with the help of my beloved Muffins. I tried to write this in a way that she kinda was part during some of the main events but without changing much about the canon except the fact that, well... she was there too... She was mostly a background character who was there and helped out here and there but that's kinda it. I explain it that this was due to Hank wanting to keep her away from everything and the little she did was her kinda disobeying him and doing it anyway. I also tried to write it, that most of her story kinda happened “off page” like meeting her father and trying to find her way back to her time etc. As I continue to read the comics this will get updated... eventually... maybe For this verse I also kept Maggie's mother unknown.
Born sometime in the future as the daughter of Hank McCoy, Maggie was abducted by an organization called HADES, when she was just a young child. Years later after multiple obstacles, she finally managed to find her way back home to her family. After an attack Maggie then ended up in the past after she lost control over her powers. Not able to return to her timeline, she took on her alias Mara Moon to hide her true identity.
Living on the streets for a while, she then met the younger version of her father, who offered his help to the young girl, not knowing that this was his own daughter. She was brought to live with him and the Avengers until they would figure out what to do with her, when it was finally revealed who she really was.
In an attempt to return to her own time, with the help of her father, Maggie managed to jump into the future but not into her own. Still stuck in the past she looked for her father, who had joined the X-Men again, and became a student of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. With the help of her father Hank, Charles Xavier and the other X-Men, she kept trying to learn to control her abilities and to find a way back to her time. During this time she kept jumping back and forth in time but never managed to reach her own.
After another failed attempt she landed days before the events of House of M that ended with the M-Day. Now facing bigger problems her attempts to get back to her time got less till they stopped completely for a while. Sometime after the events of M-Day, Maggie picked up where she had left and was able to make another jump, this time landing in a time where Xavier's School was destroyed and mutantkind lived in Utopia.
Not knowing where her father was, or where else to go, she also went to Utopia. When her father returned from his arrest by H.A.M.M.E.R. she moved in with him again until Maggie was recruited by Scott to protect Utopia from the several attacks. Against the will of her father, who wanted to keep his daughter out of fights, she left to help anyway, as she saw this as her duty.
Furious over this Hank took her back home with him, before she was able to really fight alongside the others. One day Logan decided to open a new school and asked Hank to join him to which he agreed. They moved into the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, where she became a student once again.
Much later she found herself on Krakoa, the living island for mutants. Still living with her father, she had to watch him turning and changing into a man she no longer recognized. Where at first he was only much more stricter and careful he started to turn cold and ruthless. Not able to reach him or talk sense into him, Maggie began to distance herself more and more from him. At one point Maggie ran away, unable to watch her father continue to turn into something she couldn't support but was also unable to fight against.
After Hank was reborn and left Krakoa with Simon, they went to look for her. Not knowing, that it was the old Hank and the father she loved, Maggie tried to flee but was stopped by Simon. He explained everything to her and while at first reluctant, she then agreed to return with Hank and Simon and to live with them.
#ooc :: mun#i didn't wrote out the part with hades and forlorn hope here as i already did this on my google sites and it's exactly the same as there#so i only concentrated on what's new#i'll be also doing sub verses like for her time with the avengers or as student at one of the schools etc.#hate the krakoa part but well i wanted to stay true to canon as much as possible#which means to adopt this awful part too

Thunderbolts (vol. 1) #129
Read Date: July 03, 2023 Cover Date: April 2009 ● Writer: Andy Diggle ● Penciler: Roberto de la Torre ◦ Carlos Magno ● Inker: Scott Hanna ◦ Roberto de la Torre ● Colorist: Frank Martin Jr. ◦ Giovanni Kosoki ● Letterer: Albert Deschesne ● Editor: Bill Rosemann ●
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● Ghost is an interesting character. haven’t come across them before this story ● so who is this Green Goblin if Osborn isn’t? Harry maybe?
● 👏👏
Synopsis: The Green Goblin has breached Air Force One in mid-air. The Secret Service attempts to get the President to an escape pod, but Dr. Leonard Samson - thanks to a gamma emitter secretly planted on him by Ant-Man - begins to hulk out and attack the agents in a rage.
The Goblin reaches the group and tells Samson he can take it from here. He uses a neural scrambler to disable the President and the Secret Service agents, but Norman Osborn and Samson are unaffected. Osborn - clearly in league with the Goblin - orders Ghost to attack. Ghost grabs Samson and phases them both through the lower hull of Air Force One, leaving an intangible Ghost floating in mid-air as Samson plummets to earth.
Ant-Man revives the President in time to witness Osborn and the Goblin staging a fight. Osborn gains the upper hand and throws the Goblin out of the plane, officially ending the manufactured threat. As the Goblin falls, he turns on a device given to him by Osborn that stops his momentum. Calling himself Headsman, he radios that he is ready for pickup. He is collected by an aircraft piloted by Ghost and Paladin.
Osborn and the President strap in as Black Widow guides Air Force One into a crash landing on a glacier. Shortly after, Osborn’s H.A.M.M.E.R. team arrives. Osborn orders them to collect the President, sweep the plane for Green Goblin’s D.N.A., and put out a warrant for Samson’s arrest.
Elsewhere, Songbird catches news coverage of the attack on a T.V. in a homeless encampment. She muses that someone needs to step up and stop Norman Osborn.
The full new Thunderbolts team - Black Widow, Ghost, Headsman, Paladin, and Ant-Man - arrives at their new headquarters, The Cube. Widow says they have intel that their next target is planning to go after Norman Osborn at Avengers Tower. That target? Deadpool.

Enter The Goblin King
Norman had just reached the height of his ascendancy. He had outed Tony Stark, and had transformed S.H.I.E.L.D. into H.A.M.M.E.R. He and his Dark Avengers were now the new faces of "heroism." He had formed a Cabal of some of the world's most influential villains. Norman wanted more though. Though he did have the occasional slip up. He had become much more cool headed, even having the public at large believe he had turned a new leaf. The truth? Every now and again The Goblin would sneak in. If someone even said the word Spider around him, it was almost as if he mind would automatically attach the word Man to the end. It never got out of hand, it was something that would only be known by him behind closed doors. Well, except that one Thunderbolts incident, but that is a story for another day.
It seemed like his Dark Reign was rocketing upwards, and with that the power Norman gained became more and more. Then all of that changed. One day he was in Avengers Tower, that he felt immensely proud of calling his. The next he woke up in Washington D.C. It was not the one familiar to him though. It was one where Norman didn't hold power.
Many would see it as a setback, but not Norman. His physical abilities seemed not to be affected by whatever had brought him here. He even had rebuilt what was once the great Oscorp he knew within a year. He was aiming to get back where he once was. So naturally, he then set his eyes on the political world. One back door deal after another even lead him to getting the position Secretary of Homeland Security. Norman was content with this for now. At least he was, but I want more...
