Do you think they’ll continue exploring BuckTommy next season?
Okay, this is a bit complicated to answer right now so bear with me on this - I think I am about 95% on the fact that Tommy will return next season. Why? Mostly because of two reasons, well two and a half really -
1. There's a shift in how they have approached the relationship with the media. Before, Tommy was barely a discussion unless a journalist specifically asked about the relationship and even then we only got a vague response. And I don't think we need an expert to see that things seem to have taken a full u-turn this recent press tour. Oliver Stark, the master of making non-committal statements, has been literally gushing over Tommy and the BuckTommy relationship. He said something along the lines of I am looking forward to seeing what happens with that relationship next season and it would be very weird for him to drop that statement and then not have Tommy show up anymore. Especially since suddenly bringing up Tommy when he hasn't even been seen with Buck for 3 episodes could have no purpose other than to remind the audience that they need to look out for him next season.
2. The story was again deliberately left unfinished. They could have put a stop to it at any point. All it would take is probably 10 seconds of screen time. They could have had Tommy say it was just a one-night stand in 8.11 or say he was only there for Chimney in 8.15 or have a brief scene of them in 8.16 acknowledging they did not have the right timing and agreeing to just be friends (this would have the added benefit of freeing up Buck's romantic arc and setting up Tommy as an independent recurring to be pulled in when they need an oompf factor). But they did none of those things and instead have almost stubbornly kept these two characters tied together. That has to amount to something.
The half - What was the point of spending so much money on Lou and on helicopters if they weren't going to bring him back. Remember they didn't use Lou in the beenado episodes despite there being a perfect opportunity to do so and that was probably because of the pending breakup. The fact that they have done so now should logically indicate the opposite.
So, yes on Tommy coming back next season and also to it being related to Buck's romantic arc. Now, what I am not so sure about is how the relationship will pan out. Tim usually doesn't drag stories over but he did that last season so we can presume he might do it again this time around. But even then, all of that was end-of-season stuff that was resolved in the first 3 episodes. What's different in this case is that instead of a last arc story, the relationship drama has lasted all season and I don't know if that means we should expect a faster resolution or a slower one. Or even if we should expect one in the first place. I had said this in one earlier post - "This is probably the only romance arc that has given them so much engagement, on both sides of the front. Resolving it would take out one side so they might want to milk it for at least half a season more.". This still holds true but with how the finale panned out, I can't say for sure if they want to resolve it/resolve it soon and take away the engagement it is giving them.
So there you go. I don't know if I made any sense, I had a very straining day at work and English is taking a lot of energy right now but I hope I was at least able to answer your question.
There's one last thing I'd like to add though, which is that all of this is at best conjecture and I have been wrong a lot before so take it with a grain of salt. Whether Tommy will turn up next season or not is dependent on a lot of external factors like actor schedules, contracts, the overall plot and the creative whimsy of one Tim Minear so don't stress too much about it. I'd suggest focusing more on fanworks instead of holding out for canon like I am trying to do. The fans are doing a much better job anyways.

It's just so lame how much non canon non game adaptions genuinely just don't give a single fuck about Eggman and are always so eager to create a million new villains and completely shove him aside and not bother to give him any focus or respect in the slightest over them. Especially lately with like all latest non game adaptions
Even though a lot of said other villains tend to be really generic or shallow and just empty compared to Eggman and all he has to offer with his entertaining character and personality and the way he's such a unique spin on a villain's desire of world domination with his Eggman Empire and Eggmanland theme park dreams
But no non game media wants to explore him despite the way he has ENDLESS potential that always keep him fresh and never gets old. The games have proved this for decades by how he's the main antagonist and biggest threat to Sonic and co consistently and they literally never run out of ideas. He's the REASON most stories even happen at all
He can create so many robots, mechs, bases, circuses, carnivals, casinos, theme parks, space stations, air fleets, etc. He can unleash gods and enslave aliens and beasts, break the entire world apart, be responsible for world shattering schemes, fuck with time and outer space, capture planets and tons more. The possibilities are literally endless with him
But it seems the creators of anything outside of the games think they can do something better and more interesting with a whole new character over one with such a strong personality, motives and potential, some of the most of all the characters. Instead they treat him like he was never an important part of the series at all
And people who clearly just hate the games agree and say it's a good thing and it'd be "boring" if it was always just Eggman Vs Sonic/Eggman was always involved in general but that's literally 99% of the games. If they don't like that, they don't like most of them or their stories. Even when he isn't the true main villain or final boss, he usually still has involvement and often a pretty important role still
But adaptions rarely do this and throw him out entirely and replace him with random villain after random villain who never end up being well developed or unique or compelling like he is, all while Eggman will barely show up at all. And if he does it's like he's a random side character who pops in and out sometimes. The games rarely treat him as any less important and significant even when other villains get the spotlight
So that's my issue. Not just that I'm so biased towards Eggman that I'd never want any other villains to get a chance (Heroes and Shadow 05 are literally my top two games). The games usually handle this well because Eggman is more often than not involved, often pretty heavily still. And even then, he's usually still the one who kicks off a story or creates/contributes to the climax which keeps him important too. Adaptions rarely credit him and respect him for that
It makes the creators of non game adaptions seem so eager to get rid of him but they're swapping him out for characters that are a lot more flat and empty with much more bland or repetitive limited actions and motives. It's even funnier when the most interesting things they do is use some of Eggman's stuff so it makes you wonder what is even the point of that character using his shit, when he could be using it himself and being way cooler and more interesting with it?
It's also funny when the random villain puts Eggman down like they have anything impressive or credible to their name compared to all his schemes and accomplishments on a grand scale, or they're just Eggman-Lite but stripped of all the things that make him so interesting and lovable like the Chaos Council for example. It's just pretty rich when Eggman has so much more potential and a much stronger more developed character and motives but they threw him out for them

By killing off Bobby Nash, Tim Minnear and company have hit the selfdestruct button. Season 8 was way too late to start MCD's. He has doomed season 9 to be the final season. The only thing that could save it, is maybe a Bobby resurrection arc. He will never make Buddie canon.
so i know im in the minority when i say i dont think the show is in danger right now… but i do think that if they continue the way they’ve been going, they will very quickly fall into the red zone.
i haven’t really gone into detail over it, but like the concept of a MCD doesn’t really bother me if it had been done respectfully and effectively… ive said before if they were going to kill off a main it would make sense for it to be bobby, BUT that does not change the fact that the way it’s been done, and the way TM and co handled the aftermath of the situation was the catalyst for why it became a much worse situation than it would have been had they handled it in a respectful way
i think if it hadn’t been rushed or so glaringly last minute, the initial shock and hurt of the audience would have blown over quickly, especially with a funeral episode that had actually focused on the team and the emotional impact of bobby’s death (which is not what we got)
the show is limping after the finale, for sure, but a limp can be fixed if it is taken care of and healed. its when the limp is left untreated when the real deterioration begins.
hopefully the abc execs who have gone on record to point finger at tim minear know it, and it may be wishful thinking on my part, but knowing that they’ve said they don’t want to lose this show bc it’s such a huge money maker for them, i would hope some serious conversations are being held with execs, producers, and TM about the show’s future and what that looks like for TM specifically.
i know the general fandom reaction is thst we want tim to be fired… i think that’s wishful thinking, but what i do think is more plausible is that someone at abc might instill the fear of god into the bald man, and that hopefully they’ll realize this show needs a head writer under tim who collaborates on every episode to maintain consistency, and will also keep tim on track and has veto rights to his more outlandish ideas.
i would hope they would point back to how successful seasons 1-4 were under him so that he might realize that that is the show he should be writing for, and not lonestar where he got used to just writing whatever the fuck he wanted bc he didn’t care.
im still on the fence about buddie. if i base things purely off the last few episodes alone, then no, i absolutely wouldn’t think it was plausible, but the show isn’t just the last few episodes; we still have at least a whole other season that has not been written yet. we know they see what the fans say, regardless of if tim wants to admit it or not. it always gets back to him- and if abc is aware of the amount of vitriol the fandom has towards him after this season, then they will not risk allowing him to further shoot himself in the foot.
they’ve absolutely given him too much power at abc, but he’s not the end all be all- he has bosses and higher ups who can tell him no, and hopefully the amount of press, social media reactions, and blatant cast frustrations as well will prompt executives at abc to stop letting him just do what he wants.

Hey, it appears you've interpreted my post as some sort of critique on Republic City. And look, while I may have hurt your feelings in some weird way, I was simply talking about how Republic City missed a lot of world building opportunities. I actually disagree with a lot said in the linked article.
My problem with tlok isn't the development of technology, obviously. Its the fact that technology in tlok somehow developed the same way it would in our world. Like i am in no way saying that they can't have steam technology or electricity. I was simply positing a question whether it would be as needed and treated the same as in our world, where a lot of western technologies became widespread because white people were also... widespread.
Hell, since you're so hellbent on protecting canon, we see spirit based technology being developed in the show, so it's not an impossible concept to grasp that there are other sources of energy/ways technology can be applied in the atla verse.
Tumblr media
And clearly, you didn't pay attention to the references i Linked, because you would take notice to the fact that silkpunk (I also explicitly said silkpunk media should be just a jumping off point) is less about a specific era in technology, and more about aesthetics and philosphy. The two silkpunk creators i linked have a lot of differences, as I aimed to show how diverse the genre could be. Especially with how diverse and vast the Avatar world is, I thought both sides of the spectrum could be applied.
And hey, look, a lot of the references I provided even account for the Fire Nations steam technology, which you keep pulling out like it's some sort of gotcha.
Tumblr media
Like I just don't mesh well with the idea that for there to be "modernisation" in a world without the traditional "west", people still need to dress, develop the same politics and social structures as 1920s Amercans. And look, we can all go and call each other racist back and fourth (though I personally didn't use the word because i don't think its my place to be the arbiter of what is racist and what is not) but I never said that poc wouldn't use modern forms of tech, you're putting some very questionable words in my mouth, and I don't appreciate it.
I'd say that the equation if modernity and the western world is Weird on your part though. Like why are the nationalities who were previously all about long hair suddenly giving all their men short hair. Random new fashion trend? Maybe. But super convenient that its so widespread and it correlates so strongly with 1920s trans atlantic aesthetic. But short hair and suits that just Happen to look american just naturally come along with "modernity" and progress, right? It's only natural that whiteness will crop up as a society progresses, even if whiteness supposedly doesn't exist in this world, right?
Tumblr media
Nothing to do with westernisation, I'm sure. Don't worry about ir
You're also forgetting that Republic City isn't just one city. It's just the capital if the United Republic of Nations, which was primarily made of the Fire nation colonies and the lands connecting them. You're making a frankenstein out of wealthy colonies where Fire Nationals hold most of the power and areas that probably spent like 100 years fighting off colonies. What do you think is going to happen here.
Tumblr media
Do you really, honestly want to tell me that a republic created by essentially squishing colonies together Wouldn't have any biases towards the previous colonists. Is that such an unrealistic position to hold?
Oh yeah, Lao, a ridiculously wealthy man living off ludicrous amounts of generational wealth was in a partnership with a fire national who was his equal (you know except for the part where he had a shitton of Lao's employees disobeying him and working in a dangerous mine without his consent and also hired mercenaries with direct affilation to fire lord ozai but hwy that was just a coincidence). Racism is solved because the 1% aren't oppressed actually.
Like I'm sure the extreme disparity that exists in Yu Dao (which may i remind you, still a part of the Republic, still incredibly wealthy-ergo infulential, and the whole reason the Republic Exists) doesn't exist everywhere in the United Republic, but to say there wouldn't be traces of it in the country is an incredibly rose tinted way to look at it.
Tldr, tlok's Republic City is incredibly sanitised and simplified for what it is supposed to be.
And hey, that seems to appeal to you, so good for you, it's the canon you got. I think it could've been more complex and intricate, and I didn't get that. Like what do you want from me. I still love tlok, I don't mind Republic city as much as you seem to think I do.
Considering what most tlok fans vs tlok haters feel about the setting of tlok, what are your personal opinions regarding the setting of Korra? Because at first I thought it felt jarring with the way it felt more “Americanized” mainly because of how Republic City appeared, but then some said it does resemble (maybe?) east asian cities like Hong Kong for instance. But then I’ve also heard about the reason why it felt jarring to begin with was more so the idea it poses in terms of the Industrial Revolution and it’s relations to imperialism (post below):
https://medium.com/@nettlefish/the-inescapable-whiteness-of-avatar-the-legend-of-korra-and-its-uncomfortable-implications-debc76bbf7f
Honestly, this is a subject I've tried to not speak of directly, being neither American, nor a member of the nationalities primarily depicted in Avatar. So take my response with a heaping portion of salt, ok?
I personally have a love/hate relationship with Republic City. I like the idea of an are where the four nations intermingle, prompting progress and growth. I also have talked at length about how much I hate the fact that the plot seems to revolve around this shitty poorly utilised oriental reskin of New York.
As for the question of whether RC is 'orientalised Western cities' or if it was actually based on actual East Asian cities, I think it's a bit of both. Mind you, I only have access to old photos and drawings, so my comparisons won't be ideal, but it seems the general buildings of the 'bulk' of Republic City do resemble cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo at the time.
Tumblr media
It does however seem that the named buildings and areas, eg. places with actual importance seem to be be mainly inspired by actual western buildings.
Tumblr media
Of course, there is also the issue that a lot of the buildings of major Eastern cities at the time looked the way they did due to western interference, and so we are posed with the question if Republic City, a city in a world where there are close to no European influences would even look like said cities.
Tumblr media
But relying on these aspects of history leads us to irreversably tying westernisation to progress, which I cannot even begin to describe as a problematic and untrue idea. This further muddles the concept of tlok's industrial revolution, as it follows a very western pattern, eg. the devlopment of for example electrical power, telephones and telegraphs, and train lines which is what enabled another wave of colonialism. Trying to consider what would happen in a world where that never happened would be fascinating, and probably liberating for many cultures.
For example, would the world of Avatar even have a need for electricity in a world where Spirits and people who can control the elements with their minds exist?
Tumblr media
I admit, it would probably be difficult to envision a modernised world without western/european influences off the cuff, but it is possible. It would take a lot of research and imagination, but it is possible. It would require isolating western influences and trying to establish new patterns in how the world could evolve without white ppl sticking their noses into everything. (I actually have personally been trying to 'reengineer' Republic City fashion bacause I want to redesign the Krew so I'm kinda in the depths of research hell on this lol. The things I do cause I miss sewing apprenticeship...)
The author of the article says that tlok is steampunk, which is an easy mistake to make, one I have made in the past. That still isn't the best choice for a post atla world, in my opinion. I believe tlok is actually more diesepunk. However, I'd say that if tlok wanted to cling to Avatar's clear wuxia inspirations, it should've opted for something like silkpunk, which, in simple terms, melds East Asian aesthetics, history and philosphies with fantastical technology. I say insimple terms because there is a lot more to silkpunk than just that, and not every "Asian scifi" is silkpunk, but if a creator were to attempt to do something of the sort, silkpunk would be a good jumping off point.
Here are some sources I personally used when researching the genre.
Ken Liu, the Author who coined the term Silkpunk explains the term
Interview with Ken Liu
Interview with silkpunk artist, James Ng
Tumblr media
Now, when it comes to the sociopolitical narratives around imperialism and colonisation in tlok, I can only comment so much. But I agree with the author of the article that the Fire Nation imperialism and its results should've been explored more. And it would be SO easy. For example, in the comics we see a wealth disparity in between Fire Nation citizens and Earth Kingdom citizens of the area that would later become the Republic.
Tumblr media
How would this develop over time? If we look at irl examples, we could see this gap become even wider due to lack of affirmative action. And, lo and behold, don't we already have an incredibly wealthy family canonically descended from Fire Nation settlers. Hiroshi may have described himself as just a humble shoe shiner, but it would be so easy to rework his backstory into being a nepo baby feeding off colonialism. Driving that point further, how would Mako and Bolin be treated as children of q mixed union? Would they be treated differently based on their bending abilities, or their appearance?
Tumblr media
This could be easily incorporated into the characters' storylines and characterisation and would probably lead to some interesting dynamics, especially from the perspective of Korra, an outsider.
But the silence on the potential issues of discrimination in an america based city created off colonialism and imperialism is a symptom of another point. That Republic City is not only 'oriental America', it's also idealised 'oriental America.'
A lot of tlok feels like a very odd American centric fanfiction of history, with the America stand in always shoehorned in as important. Despite president Raiko being presented as an all around dickwad, Republic City itself is posed as a bastion of impartial fairness and as having a say in solving international conflicts. We're shown and told that extreme poverty exists in Republic City but we're never told why, we simply have to accept it as a fact of life, why don't we all go look at the cool rich ppl, look at Asami and her big airship, don't think too hard about Mako and Bolin's past.
The characters in charge of most of Republic City's important militias are nepo babies to soem extent, and skate by on their likeablity. Iroh II was cool for the ending of B2 and then got relegated to Raiko's spineless lackey. Lin is, in my probably very controversial opinion, a really bad chief of police in the most stereotypically American way possible.
Tumblr media
I've talked ay length at how frustrating it is that we keep coming back to Republic City even when the actual plot is going on somewhere else. B2 and B4 have this problem in particular.
Instead of showing us primarily the perspectives of actually dealing with Kuvira or Unalaq's agression, throughout most of the seasons, the Krew are sorta chilling in Republic City talking how much it sucks that war crimes are happening somewhere else. It's giving American self centeredness to the max. But I think I've already screamed into the void about this a lot.
Tumblr media
I will, however, say that the author of the article you sent me makes some crucial mistakes relating to the actual plot and scenes of tlok, which I wouldn't hold against her if it weren't the fact that she uses them to back her points. Points which are, mind you, mostly valid. But the author seems to misremember or falsely represent facts in the show to bolster these points, which is never a good look, even if you are making good points. For example, claiming benders being the only ones with political power in RC, as well as saying that the Council was made of benders, which is false. As is accentuating Korra's role as a Southern Water Tribe princess, whose father is somehow chief, despite also being the shamefully exiled brother of the Northern Water Tribe chief to bolster her opinion on tlok's theme on focusing on those in power. Korra is already the Avatar, a divine vessel. And her father being chief happened later in the show, after Unlaq was revealed to be a little shit. It is ultimately inconsequential to Korra's character, and makes her no more a princess than Katara was.
I can see what the author is trying to do and I think she makes good points, but it feels like she either didn't watch tlok very carefully, or is either intentionally or subconsciously skewing facts to fit her arguments. Making mistakes and oversights like this sours the whole text and is probably the reason I feel like agenda came first in this article. Be it a good agenda, it still leads to certain parts of the article feeling disingenuous to a cerain degree.
However, I do still see a lot of merit in the articke and agree with a lot of its points. I wish Republic City and tlok as a whole had delivered on the amazing concepts it offered, but due to a probable myriad of reasons, tlok will always feel slightly lacklustre to me.

InuKag: I Will Fall in Love with You, Over & Over Again
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Otherwise known as the InuKag reunion, but make it more angsty😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢
Tumblr media
So, uh..its been a while hasn't it? Last time I actually posted on here was when I talked about the eclipse, which is LITERALLY ALMOST A FULL YEAR AGO😱 Like, the heck!? Where'd that time go???? I've still been lurking in the Inuyasha/Inukag tag and have left comments here and there, but I've been way too busy and tired with life stuff to actually POST something for a long time, ESPECIALLY my own art. But I'm hoping I can change that and go back to posting regularly, or at least semi-regularly. That's my New Year's resolution, anyway. I know I definitely want to get back to drawing more than I have been for a long time, and I'm happy I was finally able to post this InuKag comic! I started it a few weeks ago, but only finished coloring it yesterday.
Its probably unoriginal at this point, but this comic is based off the "Epic: The Musical" song "Would You Fall in Love with Me Again" because I'm obsessed and the song, particularly Penelope's part, is so InuKag-Coded after their 3 year separation.
Hot take: InuYasha is singing Penelope's part here because Kagome was the one to return and make the "long journey" (AKA the Odyssey) back to the feudal era, and InuYasha had to wait for her to come back (they both did, but you know what I mean) I don't know, I thought that was clever 'cause Kagome in the roll of Odysseus and Inuyasha as Penelope in this context made sense to me.
Anyhoo, I'm actually working on an InuKag animatic with this song as well, and I even have the initial draft done! I just gotta finish the actual line work. Would ya'll like to see what I've got so far, or should I wait until I have the whole animatic done?
Close up pics:

If anyone is interested in me adding them to my tags whenever I post my InuYasha (or other fandom/original) art, just let me know, and I'll add ya to my tags!

I'm kinda confused.
I mean the whole appeal (at least for me) to the marauders fandom is that there's not a lot of canon to go off of. Most of the characters aren't alive in the canon and those who are alive are adults, so we could only assume how they were in their youth.
So it's basically just exchanging ideas about what you think about the characters. It's more of a game at this point, than a book.
And isn't the point of fanfiction to expand on an idea, create a different version of the characters, etc?
It's also a good starting point for writers. Because, yes, you could, let's say, use your friends to practice writing, but it's different when you have read about them vs. know them. Because you know how to write out the way they move/speak/act, while with real people it's way harder to make something you have seen/heard into written form.
I like canon compliant fics, because they show you the "basic" (keeping them more to what is known about them in the canon) version of a character. But for such a fic to feel real with fully fledged out characters, you need to fill in the gaps. What is their favorite food, how they relax, do they snore, etc. Especially when from a side/only mentioned characters they become the main ones.
And it is hard. The reason I still haven't written a full fic is because I don't trust myself with giving them good characterization. Especially if I'm going to try something different, explore a niche thing I like/have noticed.
And guess what? I never read the books, only watched the movies and I haven't watched them for years. And I wasn't even a big fan of the original. Sure, I enjoyed them, but not as much as other media, that I don't even interact with today.
The base of the marauders fandom is the books, but without the fanon it's basically non existent. It wouldn't be a separate fandom from the hp one. It would be just a niche.
And, most importantly, people are just having fun. Do they see themselves in a character, so they headcanon that character to be like them in a way that is not said in canon? Cool. Do they know someone who reminds them of the character, so they headcanon that they would have the same opinions? Nice. Do they just think it would be cool if they did/wore/said/thought this? Sure.
If you like to keep it canon, do so. But why are you so reluctant about people changing it, especially when everyone is aware of that. Even when, some people (me) learned about what came from the fandom and what came from the source, after a while in the fandom.
It's, just... I don't even know what's the deal. People just have the habit of using something that already exists. Something they know other people are interested in.
It kinda makes everything messy and it makes you wonder "How did it go from this (canon) to that (fanon)?" But it's fun. Isn't that the whole point?
(Btw, I kinda enjoy talking to people about this kind of stuff, so if you're up to having a proper discussion, I would gladly have one. Let's see who will do better. By that I mean that in a philosophical kind of way, you know?)
Can I just ask why you are so pressed about OCs being projected onto canonical characters that don't really have canon personalities? Like I just really think it's a non-issue for people to include characters like emmeline vance or caradoc dearborn to add some more familiarity, or even literally just named characters, such as marlene mckinnon and dorcas meadowes.
Like it's fun to have characters people recognise, and it's fun be able to build a personality around what little we know about them in canon, and therefore have a challenge whilst also having the freedom of an OC.
idk man I just don't think it's so deep that you have to be reminiscing about the old days LOL
Honestly, it’s not at all hard to make up your own character, name her Pandora, and pretend she’s canon. Like, who even is Pandora? You only know she had a daughter and a potion blew up in her face, all that stuff about her being someone’s sister is pure OC. It’s like naming your character Jasmine and turning her into Jasmine Rosier, what’s the difference? Why not just go ahead and create Jasmine Rosier from scratch if you’re going to throw canon out the window and make up wildly implausible relationships? And if you want your personal crop-top-wearing twink to hook up with Remus Lupin, why not just make your own OC instead of destroying Sirius Black’s character? I genuinely don’t understand the need to pass off your OCs as canon characters while trampling all over the actual ones, instead of just inserting your OC into the story with an original name. It’s not like you’re putting in more effort, real effort is trying to make everything canon compliant and racking your brain to keep things coherent and as close to canon as possible. Everything else is just lazy writing and a desperate need for likes because you named your character Dorcas instead of Lydia.

just got a dm abt one of my posts and y'all please don't try and show the hermits (or any minecraft youtuber or content creator for that matter) my posts, i'm uncomfortable with it and don't want any of my posts shown to a cc. if they stumble upon it naturally that's unfortunate but i can live with it since i do maintag a lot (something i REALLY need to stop doing tbh i already know i need to make a tagging system just for my blog that wont clog results) but going out of ur way to show a cc is entirely different and something i am not comfortable with.
no hate to the person at all but even if i wasn't a little silly and weird with it sometimes i wouldn't be comfortable with it, i want my blog to be a purely fandom only space with none of the creators involved <3 please respect this
#which is imo how a fandom space should be#i'm old fashioned and it breaks the fandom etiquette rules i stand by#i ship and stuff and absolutely NO cc needs to be subjected to that please and thank you even if it's a non-ship post#not saying hermits and others cant hang out and interact if they wish hell no but like....#if you as any person with a following willingly go into a fandom space you have to expect to see some things you find weird#doesn't even necessarily mean ship just stuff the cc finds weird :v idk im not phrasing this right but like#the rule with shipping around any sort of media has been to keep it away and not show the creators anything !!! and thats fallen out#of practice the past few years with ppl getting more and more comfortable demanding boundaries and personal info from creators#which isn't right imo bc its like you're trying to see how much you can get away with. u want a guide on how to interact and social skills#which is... huh??? just be polite and keep anything weird away from them like what we were doing#some folks nowadays need “permission” to ship stuff even from SHOWS and shit with no real people and its like wow... huh....#u need it to be canon?? u need everything told to u by the show?? wheres the imagination. the spirit.#the making of everything so far removed from what it once was#like that guy that played nick from heartstopper that had to be outed to play a gay guy. like#idk im so sick of the boundary fandom ppl in mcyt 'what if they saw and made it uncomfortable!! im going to show them!!!!'#you are making them MUCH more uncomfortable than i am by GOING INTO THEIR FACE AND DEMANDING THEY LOOK AT IT!!#AND DEMANDING BOUNDARIES N SHIT... CRAZY.... idk the hermits especially its weird to me bc clearly they understand fandom etiquette#and the dynamic im talking about. most of them understand that by going into fandom spaces they will see things they dont like#which is why a lot of them only like fanart and answer questions asked by fans. even on tumblr !!! where the weird ppl are!!!#they also all seem to understand they are playing characters (citing joel cleo and grian as examples) for their audiences#which is. smth the audience itself doesnt understand most of the time anymore. oh my god they all died in real life in hermitcraft season 8#idk hermitblr used to be a lot more okay with hermitshipping n then a bunch of ppl from other fandoms moved in and its all more negative#and makes me sad. idk...#i never meant for this blog to gain almost 500 followers i just wanted to make silly little ship posts and now im scared to#bc ive gotten hate and its.... bwugh.... tempted to remake blogs and make one thats very clearly just for me and a few weirdos#whatever i went off on a tangent in the tags as usual just pls dont show creators my posts even non-ship ones for this reason#jamies bad posts#talking in tags#serious posts#<- ig??? idk

I’ve come to realize that “well in the comics (insert factoid)” can/should really only be taken as a vague idea of what Might be true in the show and nothing more than that. like more often than not, if a question unaddressed by the show is answered in the comics, it’s an interesting note to take into consideration, but by no means should it be considered to actually, canonically answer anything in the show. because boy howdy they are drastically different, and the show is much less of a tv adaptation of the comics and more like a tv show that’s premise and characters are loosely inspired by the comics. i only highlight all this because it feels like I see certain possibilities and theories and whatever else shot down by the “canon” contradicting them via the comics from time to time, when in reality the show’s canon and the comics’ canon are two wildly different, occasionally overlapping things and should be treated as such.
(note: this is not, however, discounting the sandman tv universe’s canon as being true dbd canon– the shows absolutely DO have the same canon, and facts of the sandman (tv show) must be facts of dbd. but I digress.)

Cursed with wanting a new hyperfixation to get me out of the Arc/ane fandom while also being so heavily locked in on Mel and Jayce it's hard for me to think about anything else without tying it back to them

with shadow out of the lineup for the twitter takeovers for now that means they cant say any offensively out of character stuff about him anymore which is a win but what if with him gone they direct that energy elsewhere. what if they start saying offensively out of character stuff about amy or knuckles or sonic. horrifying

Despite its flaws, the qsmp had really good representation, especially for communities often under or misrepresented in popular media.
There were a decent amount of genderfluid/genderqueer/nonbinary characters, mostly through the Eggs/Federation Employees/Other NPCs, but there were players like Maxo and Mike who use mutliple sets of pronouns. Pepito had no pronouns in English but preferred masculine pronouns/terms in Spanish. Most people referred to Richas with masculine terms, yet Pac and Mike affectionately referred to Richas as their daughter multiple times. Leo and JuanaFlippa openly had name and pronoun changes to reflect their gender identities. There was even discussion of preferred names with Lullah, who, as far as canon goes, is a cis character. There were openly accepted instances of cross dressing, that weren't even made into a big deal. Famously Mariana and Foolish, both masculine characters, are referred to with feminine terms. Mariana is referred to as Charlie Slimecicle's wife, and Foolish is referred to as grandma by both Richas and Pepito.
There were multiple aspec characters and multiple instances of queerplatonic/ambiguous relationships. Jaiden was very openly aroace. Her and Roier said they were partners. Cellbit came out as ace because he was worried that Roier wouldn't find their relationships fulfilling without sex. Roier responded that sex didn't matter to him in their marriage. Pac and Mike, who canonically share a soul, never defined their relationship and went with whatever people called them even if that defining word was boyfriends, despite Mike being aroace. Also, Mike had a nontraditional relationship in his relationship with Mine. Their relationship being that of goddess and devotee. Maxo openly had sex with Pierre while being an ace character. Empanada was an openly ace child character, and that was very accepted. Not to mention all the characters who could be interpreted as some form as aspec.
Qsmp also showed off many different forms of families. Platonic co-parenting basically defined the qsmp as we know it. Single fatherhood defined both Bad and Fit as characters and showed them having healthy relationships with their children. The rocky relationships of Charlie Slimecicle and Mariana and Maxo and Pierre were treated as serious parts of their stories despite the silliness also present in their relationships.
Sorry for the rambling, I just think that the qsmp is praised for its representation of queer relationships without mentioning its other forms of representation.

no you know what I'm going to scream about the stuff I talked about in the tags of this post publicly
I'm tired of the well-meaning "don't feel bad if your work only gets 20 notes your genius is what counts and do it for you!" bullshit. I've had a good handful of friends who have straight up DEACTIVATED in recent months because their work was not getting reblogged AT ALL. No, it wasn't from lack of not being well-liked, no it wasn't from lack of trying to make sure it was getting out there to the people they knew would engage with it. It was because no matter how much they were praised privately for their work, when push came to shove, absolutely NOBODY reblogged it and gave it the audience that it was due, and I'm tired of people shoving the "unsung genius" narrative as an excuse for it. Nothing excuses that. And the boop event really proved that.
because I know given the opportunity, indiscriminately pressing a button (sometimes 10 thousand times, as I did) is not beyond this website's capability. y'all loved doing that. and look at what it wrought. nothing but love and affection and happiness. just from a couple of quick clicks of a little paw button. sure. nobody knew who you booped but the other person (which is how likes used to work on this website, btw). there was an element of anonymity to it. but that is kind of the core of this website that no other social media platform still has: the ability to be anonymous. and hyper-curating a blog on here like you might on twitter or instagram to project an image is simply not viable. and hey. you wanna know a secret: literally nobody cares what you post or whether it goes with the "theme" of your blog or not. yeah. I know. CRAZY concept in this day and age. but literally. I myself have reblogged things that have had nothing to do with whatever I am currently fixated by and you know what happened to my follower count? not a damn thing. in fact, I actively try to reblog things specifically BECAUSE it's my friends who made them (even though I'm not always good at KEEPING UP WITH HOW MUCH THEY POST @prismatica-the-strange will NEVER GO UNRECOGNIZED by me).
And you know what fucking sucks? I have to deal with this too. surprise right? you ever wonder why I reblog fics or art I post like 20 times the day that I post them? do you ever wonder why I ask about tag lists and beg for asks all the time? IT'S BECAUSE EVEN I GET LIKE. 5 LIKES ON THE THINGS I POST. AND THE REST OF THE REBLOGS ARE MINE SO I CAN MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SEE WHAT I MAKE GET TO SEE IT. and I say that knowing that I'm certainly not an unpopular blog, or an unpopular writer. I know that people love the stories that I create. Hell, half of the people that I've talked to about lady terror have told me that they consider her to be canon (AND EVEN SOME!! THOUGHT SHE WAS!!! WITHOUT EVEN HAVING WATCHED THE SHOW! WHICH IS STILL SO SO WILD TO ME!!!) But especially in the last 4 years (which really dates this phenomenon), my posts, no matter how well received they've been amongst people I've talked to about them directly, I still go into the notes and at least half (often more than half) are MY reblogs to make sure people saw what I posted. and it happens every single time, and I can't tell you how much it crushes me considering that it used to be that I would be able to post it only once, and people would reblog it sometimes even HUNDREDS of times.
It's not about popularity. it never has been. it's not about anxiety. or shifting website cultures. even if you lurk, the simple fact is, that if you want people to keep making what you love. you have to reblog. your theme won't suffer because you reblogged a fanfiction that you really admire. your posting won't be ruined because you reblogged some fanart from someone in a different fandom. really. I promise. and if people do unfollow you for that? who needs em. followers come and go but you should NEVER have to cater to them. on this website it has ALWAYS been the other way around. lean into it. make it yours. put stuff you ACTUALLY WANT to be seen and that you love and appreciate on your blog. no matter how old it is, how new it is, no matter how niche or off-theme it is.
so please. if you really want to show your appreciation for someone's work? you reblog. it's really as easy as that. check the tags. add some when you reblog if you like. but please for the love of god reblog. it's as easy as booping and even more rewarding for the people who you reblog from. if you want to let someone know that their work is genius and appreciate it? show it. reblog. then DM them if you're too nervous to say what you want to say but not in a public forum. but for christ's sake. REBLOG.

Eddie’s Season 8 mustache, which showrunner Tim Minear confirms to TVLine is a “manifestation of something that’s going on within him,” has taken social media by storm — but we’re sad to report that, like all good things, it won’t last forever. Minear says the emotional reason behind the ‘stache will be explored “in an episode where he shaves it off.” Speaking of mustaches, Buck has an especially difficult time bowing to Gerrard as the 118’s new captain. (“He’s awful, and he’s an awfully fun character to have in the mix.”) On the bright side, Buck’s relationship with Tommy is going strong (“They’re still getting to know each other a little better”), so at least he’ll have someone to complain to after a long day of putting up with his racist, sexist, homophobic boss. Meanwhile, Bobby becomes a technical advisor on a “ridiculous firefighter show that’s nothing like reality”; Councilwoman Ortiz will remain a thorn in Hen and Karen’s sides as they fight to get their foster care license reinstated; newlyweds Maddie and Chimney weigh the pros and cons of growing their own family; and the return of a familiar face from Athena’s past will force her to “deal with a seminal event in her canonical life.”
BONUS SPOILER!: The two recurring villains of Season 8, Captain Gerrard and Councilwoman Ortiz, are “connected in many ways,” Minear hints.

i'm so glad i've mostly dodged the pearl/greg discourse lol. taking umbrage with doodles that arent even canon is silly. you are getting angry at literal colors and shapes. go outside.
if you want my actual interpretation, i see pearl as a lesbian in canon. i think that's probably more-or-less what they landed on, since canon never implied otherwise. in later seasons, she has like 500 gfs and nothing else is mentioned. she seems annoyed at male attention.
but i also see SU as a land where gender and sexuality are fluid, even more than in other gay media. gemkind approaches the idea of earth gender from an outsider pov. i think that's very intentional, this gender-nonconforming perspective from a non-binary creator. it's not just a gay show, it's a queer show.
the boundaries we call "gender" aren't that strict. amethyst can transform into a "male-passing" wrestling persona on a whim, then undo it just as quickly. steven can do drag and gems can present all over the place. its never a big deal. nobody cares whether their gender is "supposed" to do that.
i also think seperationism is lame as hell. i dont see a need to police who gets to be included in what gendered label, especially in fictional self-expression. all of that is based on a very strict, cisnormative, binary ideal of gender in the first place. that's not to say your individual, strongly held binary identity (i'm a binary man!) isn't "valid", just that being honest here, we cannot afford to police this stuff without invalidating other people. and while critique is allowed, i think one should be especially cautious in critiquing other people's creative expression of their own gender and sexuality.
