It's 2024 and I'm still thinking about how Portwell got done SO dirty by the time crunch of the final two seasons and Tim's laser focus on Rina.

Because while I doubt Rini fans ever wanted a breakup there, at least it was a pretty well-written break-up. It was slow, steady, progressed logically from their character traits, and was treated with a significant amount of weight by the narrative when they did break up, with both of them given scenes to process and unpack.

Portwell by contrast...its fans had to watch as Gina uncharacteristically blew up at EJ for not being flawlessly transparent and then they broke up near the end of the season before there was even a proper ATTEMPT to talk about their struggles. And then neither got any screentime to process the relationship's end because Gina had to immediately switch gears with the 45 minutes left before Rina canon, and the writers cared so little about EJ that they "resolved" his Cash subplot and then banished him from the show for several episodes.

And when they finally brought him back AND made it seem like they were going to talk about Portwell? It was just more effort to hastily finish Rina's storyline because they were out of time. The two didn't even get to have a proper conversation until the SERIES FINALE, and they tried to turn it into a joke at Portwell's expense.

Like...I don't even go here. I'm Caswen trash, through and through, but even I'm offended for Portwell fans who at least deserved to have their couple's breakup treated with gravitas and consequence!

“why didn’t we hang out more in high school?” was obviously just supposed to be a funny line about their tense history of ricky stealing ej’s girlfriends but it honestly made me a bit emotional because like …….. they had so much potential to be friends! the setup of enemies who both like the same girl to friends that are begrudgingly entangled within each other’s lives to an actual genuine friendship because they just care about and understand each other (and then to boyfriends but that’s another post entirely) could’ve been done so well but hsmtmts kept throwing it in the trash just to bring in more stupid unnecessary drama ……….. i guess what i’m trying to say is …. we were robbed!

i just rewatched hsmtmts, too bad it got canceled after two seasons. it had so much potential, but i’m sure ej and gina had a happy ending and nobody broke up or cheated

I wondered how many times Disney is gonna make their girls choose the wrong guy until they realize that the formula DON’T WORK! All these could’ve been endgame!

(I will forgive hsmtmts because as much as I love Portwell, I grew to like Rina)
