lady duff-gordon (1863-1935) was a leading british fashion designer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries who worked under the professional name lucile. the first british-based designer to achieve international acclaim, lucy duff-gordon was a widely acknowledged innovator in couture styles as well as in fashion industry public relations. in addition to originating the "mannequin parade,” a precursor to the modern fashion show, and training the first professional models, she launched slit skirts and low necklines, popularized less restrictive corsets, and promoted alluring and pared-down lingerie. she was also on the titanic and escaped with her life.

Good movie. It should’ve been at least 95 minutes shorter. But still. Good movie.

LUCY, LADY DUFF-GORDON
LUCY, LADY DUFF-GORDON
13 June 1863 – 20 April 1935
TITANIC
Lucy, Lady Duff-Gordon ‘Lucile’ is best known for being one of the survivors of the Titanic disaster.
In 1912, she and her husband booked first class cabins on the ship RMS Titanic, her secretary Laura Mabel Francatelli also accompanied them. On 14 April at 11:40pm the Titanic hit an iceberg and began to sink. An evacuation took place and the couple and their secretary boarded in Lifeboat #1. The lifeboat was designed to carry 40 people, but only had 12 people in it, seven of those crewmen. Whilst the ship sank, Lucile said to her secretary, ‘There is your beautiful nightdress gone.’ A male passenger heard her comment and became annoyed and replied that whilst the couple could replace their property, he and the other crew members have lost everything in the sinking. Her husband Cosmo heard this and offered the men financial support and whilst on board the RMS Carpathia, he wrote the men a check.
Cosmo’s actions created harsh criticism, the media and public believing that the wealthy couple had bribed the men on the lifeboat not to return to the site of the Titanic sinking, to save victims in the water. The couple’s testimony during the inquest created the most interest.
Lucile was a successful fashion designer who was born in London, England. She was married twice. Her first husband was a heavy drinker who often cheated, the couple had one child. In 1900, she married Sir Cosmo Duff Gordon who was a Scottish landowner and sportsman. After surviving the Titanic disaster, Lucile booked a voyage on the RMS Lusitania in 1915; she cancelled this trip due to illness. She was fortunate to do so as the Lusitania was destroyed by a German torpedo.
Lucile died of breast cancer, aged 71 in 1935 whilst suffering from pneumonia in a nursing home.

Will never get over the fact that we were robbed of the Lizzie McGuire revival </3
Even if Lizzie and Gordo wouldn't have been endgame, I still would have wanted to see those scenes onscreen, and to see Lizzie's journey going forward </3

no because the entirety of Bye Bye Hillridge Junior High is so very real to me (plus gordo forever has me in genuine shambles) you get to contemplate for just a day on what to shorten your ENTIRE junior year into to write in your friend's year book but don't know how to emote it all. the pressure to combine all your memories and sentiments into two sentences is a task :))
gordo wanted to say so much he hadn't said to lizzie THE ENTIRE SEASON but instead chose to be the best friend (again <//3) and rationally comfort her on how everything will be okay and how she'd done great the entire year, the flashbacks, anecdotes and reminders on how lucky he is to have her :,)))
'we got through middle school and we'll get through high school together.'
and then how his final quote of choice was "you rock, don't ever change. and only I really mean it."
so much heart ache for these 2 and the bond they share (GORDO YOU DORK ILY) :,))))
