#Dream Creature

I had a dream recently where my subconscious cooked up a very neat organism, so I did a lazy color doodle of it. I saw a section of what looked like a huge, fuzzy centipede in a tidepool, lying still on the sand. I followed its length, which turned out to be like three meters, up to its head, and I was surprised to see that it was a crinoid! The whole thing is a crinoid! A three meter crinoid that's adapted its stalk into a bilaterally symmetrical body, with paired cirri functioning as legs! It's a strange feeling, to be so surprised and fascinated by this, even though my own brain created it. There was just this sense of wonder and awe seeing these things in the water, it was very cool.

Because how else would you react if your life depends on whether your stupid brother is going to kill himself or get killed, growing up and being loved by everyone when humans are not designed to be loved by everyone, growing up having everything handed to you because you're easy to love and people are willing to give you everything, realising that you aren't even a real person and it makes you wonder what you're meant for, because the big question of humans is "what is the purpose of life" but your question is "what purpose have I been designed for? Is there even a purpose for something like me? Or am I just a shitty, childhood mistake?" Realising so late in life that you've never been your own person and trying to find any other emotion within yourself to break the mold you've been pressed into by your creation and everyone who loves you.

Humans feel this, but Matthew Lynch feels it a thousand times more.

I had a dream that began in a white city, like everything was covered in snow. These people came along with shadows only cast on their left side, and their right side was pure white, blending into the background. The fully visible humans around me were scared, and whispered to me to pass them where the shadows arent.

This developed into a dream where this was simply a fact of the world, and everyone lived in fear. Some people were Lefties. They looked human, but were white or slate-black on their left side. It was uncanny, it looked like a character select screen where locked characters are greyed out, like that side of their body only existed to view and was otherwise nonfunctional.

You had to pass them on their right side. You had to always be on their right side. They could appear anywhere, and if you looked at their faces straight on...you "lost"? Just a vague threat of "you werent supposed to do that".

Children were taught from birth that whenever a new person enters the room, cast your eyes to the floor and slowly raise them until you can see enough skin to tell if they're a Lefty. If they are, keep your eyes down, pass them by on the right side, and they'll disperse. If you slip up, and you pass them on the left, and they see you from their functional eye, its over.

They can speak like normal people, but usually a little flatter and more matter-of-fact, like they've never felt the fear everyone has been forced to live in their entire lives. The emotion in their voices and faces is subtle and uncanny. Listening to them, you are so convinced they're as trustworthy as family, but its that strong compulsion that terrifies you. You can feel your defenses dropping.

in reality, this fellow is a first in a planned series of attempts to make use of the worst colored pencils that I have currently available to me, I want to see what the best thing I can make is with that. gonna call this one "The Jester God" some closeups under the cut!

Dream Creature - "Rytas", AKA: The Beggar

I had a dream where I had to complete challenges to progress in a survival game and in one of them part of the answer was to steal an egg from this goose. It didn’t like that.

It still made the goose hissing sounds when the hand opened. I’m gonna call him Gary.

New guys from right to left:

Big fluffy one covered in crystals, the Sunset Quartz Queen! Probably just gets called Sunset for short. Soft-spoken and meditative, but also fundamentally an upper-class woman with the moral pitfalls that come with that. On the kinder end of that spectrum, but definitely critical when she thinks her time is being wasted.

Littler fluffy thing, her daughter! Probably just gets called Princess. High-energy and outgoing. Probably like. Nine or something. Too young to have any of the crystals yet, but they'll grow in eventually~

Brown bird-thing Princess is on, GG! Autonomous construct made of wood and covered in a peachy fuzz. Currently loyal to Sunset, and acting as Princess's babysitter. Fully mute, but very expressive.

Aaaaand the gloomy grey cat in the corner, Isaac! Immoral scientist who has no interest in being social with the rest of the group. Probably could be tempted with curiosities to come out and hang with the rest of them, but Erin is terrified of him so it's not usually welcome.

I had a dream this creature was just sitting on a hill by my house, and when it was approached, it stood up and said, "Download it." and then farted like a combustion engine

Another recent dream creature. I was wading through an open, wooden "canal", like a very slow-flowing waterslide, suspended in the canopy of a tropical forest. I noticed a huge web built under the surface, against one side of the "slide". It was an unstructured tangle maybe a meter across, with its architect hiding underneath. I was fascinated to find that she was a very unusual orb-weaver spider. Besides being the size of an apple, she was evidently aquatic, and her abdomen was protected by a solid carapace. To my knowledge, the only real spiders to have something like this are in the family tetrablemmidae, with most spiders having soft abdomens. She was very docile, and I held her to get a closer look. Overall, she gave the strong impression of a crab, despite very clearly being an orb-weaver.

I'd love to know more about life history for this one. How do they feed? And on what? Do they normally build webs in arboreal bodies of water, or was that a special case allowed by an artificial structure?
