Rosso, Bianco e Sangue Blu: la rom-com LGBTQ+ bestseller del NY Times disponibile su Prime Video
Tumblr media

Pester-Prosky, Berta, soprano, b. Frankfurt am Main, September 7, 1866, d. Krefeld, December 27, 1922; After studying with M. Dessoff, she made her debut as a soubrette at the Stadttheater in Wßrzburg in 1884 and then had her first successes as an operetta singer at the Friedrich Wilhelmstadt Theater in Berlin in 1886-89. She continued her education with Mrs. Elisabeth Dreyschock in Berlin, who retrained her as a dramatic soprano. As such, she came to the Stadttheater in Halle (Saale) in 1891. From 1891 to 1895 she worked at the Stadttheater in Zurich, in 1895 she came to the opera house in Cologne, where she reached the peak of her career and remained engaged until 1902. Since then she has only given guest performances. In 1899 she made a guest appearance at the Berlin Court Opera as Isolde in Tristan, where she appeared again in 1907-08, in 1901 at the Vienna Court Opera as Aida, further at the court theaters in Hanover (1890-1907), Wiesbaden (constantly since 1890), and Karlsruhe (since 1904), Mannheim (1900-1902) and Stuttgart (1905), in Frankfurt am Main (1895, 1902), Breslau (1905) and Bremen (1903, 1905). She was considered a great Wagner interpreter in roles such as Senta, Elisabeth in Tannhäuser, Ortrud in Lohengrin, Isolde and Brßnnhilde. Her other major roles were the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, Leonore in Fidelio, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Valentine in Meyerbeer's Huguenots, Rezia in Weber's Oberon, and Didon in Les Troyens by Berlioz and Ingwelde in the opera of the same name by Max von Schillings. From 1894 she was married to the harp virtuoso Reinhold Pester (1870-1928), who became director of the Krefeld municipal theater in 1906.
There are four recordings of her voice that are as rare as they are beautiful on G & T (Cologne, 1907).

I'm reminded that most of you are too young to remember what he did: On May 11 2000, Rudy Giuliani announced at a press conference that he and his then-wife Donna Hanover were divorcing.
No one was more surprised than Donna. And that was a tremendous bit of bad publicity for him and a major reason he dropped out of the Senate race. (And then 9/11 happened and everyone loved him again, except New Yorkers).

Woody Harrelson in The People vs. Larry Flynt (Milos Forman, 1996)
Cast: Woody Harrelson, Courtney Love, Edward Norton, Brett Harrelson, Donna Hanover, James Cromwell, Crispin Glover, Vincent Schiavelli, Miles Chapin, James Carville, Richard Paul, Larry Flynt. Screenplay: Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewski. Cinematography: Philippe Rousselot. Production design: Patrizia von Brandenstein. Film editing: Christopher Tellefsen. Music: Thomas Newman.
The People vs. Larry Flynt succeeds as a message movie, demonstrating that even the most obnoxious among us -- and Larry Flynt was certainly that -- deserves the protection of the First Amendment. Of course, the movie didn't have to do that for us; the Rehnquist Supreme Court did it, unanimously. (I have to wonder if today's court, with so many justices appointed by a president who railed against the news media as "fake" and referred to the press as enemies of the people, would do likewise.) Where the film falls down is in its efforts to be a biopic as well as a message movie. We get a glimpse of Flynt's backwoods Kentucky boyhood as a bootlegger who tries to keep his father from drinking up the profits, and we see how Flynt moved from strip club owner to magazine publisher, but none of this sheds enough light on how the flamboyantly defiant personality came together. Too much time is spent on Flynt's short-lived conversion to religion under the guidance of Jimmy Carter's sister, Ruth Stapleton (Donna Hanover), without tying it either to his past or to his emergence as a champion of free speech. But the portrayal of Flynt's relationship with Althea Leasure (entertainingly played by Courtney Love) does give us an insight into his mixture of rebellion and convention, as the two decidedly promiscuous people decide to get married. Nothing but love, it seems, can tame the beast. Certainly not the law. Woody Harrelson gets a chance to go over the top in the courtroom scenes, and he takes it wonderfully. Edward Norton is good, too, as Alan Isaacman, the Harvard-trained lawyer who has to put up with this yahoo. The People vs. Larry Flynt might have held together better if Flynt's story had been told from Isaacman's point of view, giving us a coherent narrative instead of the somewhat glossy, somewhat reticent, somewhat too admiring account the screenplay gives us.

AUTORI PROBLEMATICI
01. Il boia di Cater Street (The Cater Street Hangman)
Link: https://amzn.to/4akmymp
02. I peccati di Callander Square (Callander Square) 03. I misteri di Paragon Walk (Paragon Walk) 04. I bassifondi di Resurrection Row (Resurrection Row) 05. Delitti a Rutland Place (Rutland Place) 06. Tragedia a Bluegate Fields (Bluegate Fields) 07. Incubo a Devil’s Acre (Death in Devil’s Acre) 08. Scandalo a Cardington Crescent (Cardington Crescent) 09. Silenzio in Hanover Close (Silence in Hanover Close) 10. Intrighi a Bethlehem Road (Bethlehem Road) 11. Incendio a Highgate Rise (Highgate Rise) 12. Ombre su Belgrave Square (Belgrave Square) 13. Veleni a Farrier’s Lane (Farrier’s Lane) 14. Il parco delle teste tagliate (The Hyde Park Headsman) 15. L’arco dei traditori (Traitors Gate) 16. Il battesimo (Pentecost Alley) 17. Il maniero (Ashworth Hall) 18. Brunswick Gardens (non tradotto in italiano) 19. Bedford Square (Bedford Square) 20. I segreti di Half Moon Street (Half Moon Street) 21. Il complotto di White Chapel (The Whitechapel Conspiracy) 22. La medium di Southampton Row (Southampton Row) 23. L’amante egiziana (Seven Dials) 24. In un vicolo cieco (Long Spoon Lane)

Dennis A. Layton, age 73, of Windsor Mill, Maryland, entered his eternal home in heaven to forever be with the Lord on August 11, 2023, following complications of a recent stroke.
Born in South River, NJ, Dennis grew up attending Tabernacle Baptist Church of South River and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 12 at an old tent revival meeting hosted by his church. He graduated from South River High School in 1968 and attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, from 1968 – 1973, graduating with a Bachelors of Arts degree in education. It was there that he met the love of his life, Linda Lunsford, of Cincinnati, Ohio. They were married on August 11, 1973, and were blessed with 50 incredible years together before he went home to heaven on their 50th wedding anniversary, August 11, 2023.
Dennis served the Lord in full-time ministry for 47 years starting out as a physical education teacher and coach, later going on to teach history, geography, Bible, math, and speech. He completed a master’s degree in Christian education from Antietam Bible College in 1986. He transitioned from teaching to serving as a Christian school administrator from 1988 – 2009 at various Christian schools in the mid-Atlantic region. He enjoyed retirement teaching part-time at The Talmudical Academy and Arlington Baptist School. A stroke in 2019 caused him to put teaching on hold for a while, but he returned to the classroom part-time in the fall of 2021, teaching at Hope Christian School of Hanover, PA, up until the time of his home going.
Dennis was a lifelong sports enthusiast rooting for the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State and Notre Dame football teams. He played basketball and football in high school and intramural basketball, softball, and tennis in college. He coached soccer, basketball, and softball teams during his career. He also officiated high school football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball games in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Dennis had a huge sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He could always be counted on to lighten the mood and put people at ease.
The most important thing in life to Dennis was sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and His power to change lives. He would want nothing more than for his life to be a legacy and reminder that there’s nothing more important than having a personal relationship with Jesus and serving Him with one’s whole heart.
Dennis was a devoted son, brother, husband, and father. He is survived by his wife Linda; his daughters Kimberly and Kelly Layton; his brother James (Stephanie) Layton; his sister-in-law June (Mike) Baker; and his sister-in-law Sandie Romans. He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. William Layton and Gertrude (Wines) Layton, his sister Donna (Layton) Beans, and brother-in-law Ricky Beans.
Please join Dennis’ family in celebrating his life on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
A visitation hour will begin at 10 AM at Hope Baptist Church 6450 Hope way, Hanover, PA, 17331. Service will begin at the church at 11 AM.
A graveside service will follow at 3:30 PM at Broadfording Church cemetery located at 13523 Broadfording Church Rd, Hagerstown, MD, 21740.
Dennis wanted his celebration of life service to be a joyous occasion. In light of that, feel free to wear bright colors.

The People Vs. Larry Flynt (1996)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plot: The story of porn magnate Larry Flynt (Woody Harrelson), who began an unlikely crusade for free speech off the back of printing a few porn magazines, winding up in court, jail, and hospital along the way.
Tumblr media
Review: There is something to be learned from The People Vs Larry Flynt about freedom; freedom of speech, freedom of expression, personal freedom. It’s just a shame it took a complete pervert to try and teach it.
Let’s be honest though, the movie has seen a fair bit of freedom of expression, and a few liberties taken with the truth. Such as with all biopics. But the facts are very distorted here; several lawyers amalgamated into one character, long gaps between events, and even several wives and some children airbrushed from history. Oh yeah, that’s the big one. The film centres around the story of Larry and Althea (Courtney Love), two free spirits who believe everybody should be free to live their lives the way they want. No problem there, just the question of Love’s character being underage when the two meet in his strip club (not that Love pulls off looking underage in any way, shape, or form.
It’s the courtroom battles that really give life to the film. Flynt is determined that each individual has the right to decide for themselves; that the only censorship should be what the individual is comfortable with. As he points out, his detractors have the freedom to not buy his magazines if they don’t want to. He’s a character, finding new ways to argue his case, as well as pulling off some stunts which earn him several reprimands from various officials. The attempt on his life, which left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair is barely covered, though it’s effects come to dominate the second half of the film.
The People Vs. Larry Flynt is an entertaining movie that lacks a little focus; it’s caught between legal drama, comedy, and love film. But it’s an interesting story, and even if you don’t like him, Larry raises some interesting arguments.

J/D: things you said with too many miles between us
15) Things you said with too many miles between us from this post!
A present-day Josh/Donna fic for you!
July 2021
Josh stirs when his phone vibrates, and he orients himself to his surroundings. He’d fallen asleep on the couch at some point during the post-debate coverage after ensuring that the girls went to bed, and he was waiting on Donna’s phone call to debrief. Josh attempts to reach into his pack pocket to retrieve the vibrating phone. He manages to do so without stirring the dog, whose head is resting on Josh’s chest as she sleeps, letting out barely audible barks and huffs as an ndication that she’s dreaming.
“Hi,” Josh answers, his free hand moving to gently stroke the fur on top of Sadie’s head.
“Hi,” Donna parrots back.
The sound of her voice still makes him feel butterflies, even after twenty-three years of knowing her and almost fourteen years of marriage. He smiles to himself at the thought, taking another moment to realize exactly how lucky he is. “It’s quiet,” Josh notes. “Thought you’d all be celebrating.”
“We are. I just wanted to call you first so you could get to bed.”
“All the post-debate coverage is calling it a standout performance from Senator Sam Seaborn,” Josh notes. “I’m not surprised, but they sounded a little stunned, although I’m not sure why.”
Donna lets out a quiet laugh, and he has a clear vision in his mind of her leaning against a wall, smiling and looking down at the floor as she grins. “Sam did an incredible job. He was probably the most prepared out of all of them when it came to healthcare and social security. Foreign policy needed a little bit of work, but…”
“But he ran away with it,” Josh finishes. “Donna, you don’t have to be modest. I know what a big part you played in this.”
“Sam worked hard,” Donna insists.
“Of course he did,” Josh agrees, “but you worked just as hard, if not harder.”
“You’re right. I did. I think this is a turning point. It's still early, and we're narrowing down the Democratic playing field but... you know.”
Josh does know. He doesn't say anything further, so as not to tempt fate, as Toby would put it, but he absolutely understands what Donna's hinting at. Josh stretches and yawns, trying not to let on that he’s as tired as he is. “I let the girls stay up for the debate, but they’ve been in bed for the last hour or so.”
“I was going to ask you how they were, considering the only updates I’ve received in the last twenty-four hours were dog photos. I was beginning to wonder if you remembered we had daughters,” Donna teases.
“Well, our eldest is going through a Taylor Swift phase,” Josh starts.
“She knew the words to what was likely Taylor Swift’s entire discography before kindergarten, and you’re just now realizing this?”
“Songwriting,” Josh clarifies.
Donna lets out a half-laugh, half-groan. “Is it the kid from marching band again? Or… still? I don’t know which is the most accurate way to finish that sentence.”
“I think it would be 'again', but nope. Apparently, this is just your run-of-the-mill preteen self-expression stuff.” Josh shifts slightly as Sadie lets out a low growl in her sleep, kicking her front and back paws as though she’s dreaming of chasing something. “I think I heard the same chord progression on the guitar for about six hours straight today.”
“Excellent, looking forward to it,” Donna says.
“Nora spent her morning drafting a plan to convince me to get another dog,” Josh starts.
“Absolutely not,” Donna interjects before Josh can finish the sentence.
“I told her no!” Josh laughs in disbelief. “I do have some willpower, you know. Then she decided she wanted to start a dog walking business, because if she earned the money for the dog maybe it would sway me.”
“I’ve only been gone twenty-four hours, please tell me Leah hasn’t asked for a piercing or declared a college major,” Donna jokes.
Josh scratches Sadie behind the ear. “She asked me to take her to that little used bookstore so she could spend her birthday money.”
“How’d she fare?”
“She currently has two stacks of books in the corner of her room as she debates whether she wants to spend the rest of her money on another shelf or trade in some other books to make room,” Josh explains. “She also considered using the money for a custom Mets jersey with her name on it, but decided against it.”
“Too expensive?”
“No special characters,” Josh says. “She didn’t like the way Moss-Lyman looked without the hyphen.”
“I’d ask how Sadie is, but I think I know exactly how her day went thanks to your efforts,” Donna says.
“I’m but a humble servant of man’s best friend,” Josh jokes. He’s noticed something in Donna’s tone as the conversation has unfolded, the hesitant ‘we need to talk’ undercurrent of everything she says, so he decides to be the first to dive in. “What’s on your mind, Donna?”
Donna sighs. “So I was approached by Bryce Palmer from the DNC today. Apparently, there’s something brewing with Congressman Hanover and some allegations of impropriety.”
“Hanover? Like the Wisconsin fifth, Hanover?”
“The very same,” Donna confirms. “Problem is, they don’t have a viable Democrat for a special election should he resign. So they came to me to take my temperature on the whole thing.”
Josh can’t help but let the wheels in his brain start turning. The idea of Donna flipping a typically Republican district in Wisconsin sounds incredible. If anyone’s capable of it, it’s Donna. But he’s learned over the years to let Donna process before giving an opinion, so instead of rattling off all the possibilities, he simply listens.
“I told them I’m running Sam’s campaign right now,” Donna explains. “But they really want me to consider a run in the fifth next go-around. Or… you know, should there be a special election sometime between the general and the midterms.”
“You thinking about it?” Josh asks.
He hears Donna take a deep breath, then let out a long exhale. “A little? I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet. Don’t start your ‘Donna, I’ve been setting this up for you for years’ speech,” she warns.
“Wasn’t gonna. Just listening.”
“I know you’d be at your laptop searching for properties in the Wisconsin fifth right now if Sadie weren’t asleep on you,” Donna says. “I can tell if you put me on speakerphone, you know.”
Josh sheepishly taps the speakerphone button, putting a temporary pause on his search that he had already started, just as Donna had predicted. “You’re not on speakerphone.”
There’s a pause for a moment, and Josh can sense her hesitation. “Flipping a district is a lot of work.”
“It is,” Josh agrees.
“I also don’t know if I’m ready to jump right into another campaign after this,” Donna continues. “It’s been a lot of time away from all of you. If I stay away too much longer, Caroline’s going to become a YouTube sensation whose material is almost entirely inspired by the absence of her mother. Nora’s going to be running an animal shelter out of the garage, and Leah will have either a Beauty and the Beast sized library or a podcast with her Grandpa Jed, it’s a toss-up.”
“That’s a little dramatic, don’t you think?” Josh asks, holding back laughter.
“I’ve been away a lot,” Donna insists. “Things change while I'm away. I miss all of you.”
Josh smiles. “We miss you, too.” He has the instinct to tell her not to dismiss the idea out of hand, to give it some thought before she gives her answer. But despite her hesitation, Josh knows there’s a small part of Donna that’s considering it, and that’s enough for him. “Get back to the party. We’ll talk about it when you get home.”
They say their goodbyes and I love yous after confirming Donna’s flight details. Josh wakes the dog and heads up the stairs toward the bedroom, already plotting out the strategy for winning in the Wisconsin fifth.
Hypothetically, of course.

what are you writing that you're most excited about ?
Thank you for the opportunity to ramble about writing, anon; I love doing that! (I'll keep it short though :) I have....... too many plans)
I've given into the temptation and started writing some fics for Pulp Fortnight, so that's most of what I've been working on... 2/14 done atm, and another in progress! I'm excited to see where those take me, particularly:
the in-progress "horror" (ft. ghosts, haunting by foggy bloke, and traumatised sea captains!!)
the completed "myth" (outsider POV ft. slight travellovers, my beloved)!
However, you have great timing because I was literally just rambling about a new angsty Pulp idea ft. travellovers, so I'll sum it up as: Anna Hanover has remarkable Donna Noble vibes and I'm taking full tragic advantage of this! I'm sure it won't hurt my heart to write :)
Thank you for the ask!

ARTE, DONNE E PANDEMIA. La dedica recita: Thanks for all you’re doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if its only black and white.
