“Oh Phantoms my big brother, pops never really understood our human halves or limits so…” and he just shrugs like he didn’t just drop Lore. And the teens smell blood in the water, they want to know more.

Huh do you guys remember the book tuck everlasting? How the main girl Winnie was a fat ten year old with an immortal love interest who was "17" but actually like 100 n something and the whole thing with him was he wanted her to drink the everlasting water when she turned 17 so shed be 17 forever and they could get married like that was kinda weird he would.like take her just the two of em and talk up marriage with her and she was like TEN ? They changed it in the movie and made her a skinny fifteen year old but still wow I'm surprised why so many christan parents let that romance book be allowed but like....pride n prejudice was a debate? when i was a kid i used to write stories about dr. katz, a 6 foot tall cat man who was a paediatrician. but he’d always eat all his patients. he ate children. i never explained how he kept his job, considering all the dead children. anyways, i’d always draw him wearing an old fashioned nurse uniforms, like in cartoons. that wasn’t to imply crossdressing was some creepy lunatic thing, i just found it more fun to draw a nurse’s uniform than some regular doctor uniform

I apparently have to do some editing before I post the rest, because I’ve become a lot more discerning over when to use Little Details. (Prepositional phrases, italics, emdashes, etc. I also like colons and semi-colons now, which adds Variety to the punctuation pool.)

But I’ll be updating it as I edit! It’s the low-spoons kind of editing, really. I might even do another chapter or two before I go to bed tonight...

My goal is to get it caught up with the ffdn posting within the next month, though. Preferably before the trip to NY!

I do think it's worth saying with respect to OP's original point, barring rules lawyers, no one is genuinely expecting you, a new player, to sit down and read the entire multi-hundred page game manual and then be a game expert. And certainly not in one sitting.

But we *are* asking that you make the effort to at least understand the mechanics of the character you're playing, to know a bit about the abilities of your party members, to know when it is and isn't reasonable to use thieves tools/seduce an NPC/start a fight.

Because I promise you, it is a Lot more fun when you understand and can fully participate instead of just waiting for the DM to drag you through the story so you can roll dice.

I think an important part of the "D&D is easy to learn" argument is that a lot of those people don't actually know how to play D&D. They know they need to roll a d20 and add some numbers and sometimes they need to roll another type of die for damage. A part of it is the culture of basically fucking around and letting the GM sort it out. Players don't actually feel the need to learn the rules.

Now I don't think the above actually counts as knowing the rules. D&D is a relatively crunchy game that actually rewards system mastery and actually learning how to play D&D well, as in to make mechanically informed tactical decisions and utilizing the mechanics to your advantage, is actually a skill that needs to be learned and cultivated. None of that is to say that you need to be a perfectly tuned CharOp machine to know how to play D&D. But to actually start to make the sorts of decisions D&D as a game rewards you kind of need to know the rules.

And like, a lot of people don't seem to know the rules. They know how to play D&D in the most abstract sense of knowing that they need to say things and sometimes the person scowling at them from behind the screen will ask them to roll a die. But that's hardly engaging with the mechanics of the game, like the actual game part.

And to paraphrase @prokopetz this also contributes to the impression that other games are hard to learn: because a lot of other games don't have the same culture of play of D&D so like instead of letting new players coast by with a shallow understanding of the rules and letting the GM do all the work, they ask players to start making mechanically informed decisions right away. Sure, it can suck for onboarding, but learning from your mistakes can often be a great way to learn.

Some of the branches of her father’s clan that weren’t banished have learned of Moralez siblings' existence and view them as an abomination due to their human mixed blood; regardless of their mother's magical lineage. In particular, they view Lucy as the most of an embarrassment to the Pa name.

Joaquina's powers were never sealed nor diluted due to the curse never affecting the firstborn of each new line of children. In addition, Paye though seen as weak is actually better at using abilities from his father's side as his powers are amplified in his panther form.

It's the younger sisters they view as embarrassments, none really believe the youngest twins will live for too long to break the curse on their own. And even though Lucy has reached the age where she no longer has the curse, she is still viewed as rather pitiful among the Pa's (In the Moralez side she's viewed as talented) and even considers her rather lackluster panther form as a downright embarrassment.

They know of these children, it's just they find no need to leave the Otherworld to actually meet them in person or acknowledge their existence.

Considering that Lucy especially seems to long to see the other side of her family, it probably would hurt her deeply as she already doesn’t think she belongs among humans due to her powers. Just to be told that she is far too weak to belong among nonhumans either.

my two favorite college professors are anarchists lmao... in my defense in high school (Real Life) my social studies teacher was a self proclaimed anarchist. I mean he was, tbf to him, not to make it sound like he wasn't. He'd actively go to protests and tell us stories about them and write rage against the machine lyrics on the blackboard. he was my 2nd favorite teacher even tho i was like. super socially awkward around him lol. he once talked to me about bor/derla/nds because he saw me wearing my Ze/r0 hoodie (the one with the Vau/lt/symb/ol on the shoulder) specifically T/P/S. he liked playing Cla/ptr/ap, and i mumbled something incoherent about maining At/he/na because i was freaking out lol.

my favorite teacher was actually my physics teacher... he once put on a long purple wig [because he was bald] to commemorate the start of our electricity unit. i miss physics a lot... anyway cord having purple magic and long hair totally isn't because of that wig or anything...

sometimes i forget this stuff. i don't have a lot of memories of high school, it's nice to be able to write down the parts i do remember and don't actively regret. i guess that's also how Cord feels some days.
