I love Arrigal so much, even though I know this man would--and most likely will--sell me to Satan for a corn chip. It's been so long since Saverio first met him outside Barovia, that it's great to see him within the Mists. I can't wait to meet him again <3 (and now that we were gifted a bunch of money recently, I'm sure the feeling is mutual)

Master Post of My Fave NPCs in My Campaign:
Old Man Riddles
(Can appear anywhere and it'll make sense)
Entire deal is he sits in a puddle of mud splashing about and throws mud at the party if they get a riddle wrong
Chester
(Again can appear anywhere without explanation)
A mimic that talks! He takes the form of a chest, you throw 10 gold into his mouth and he spits out a random, maybe useful potion. He does not know what any of the potions do
Sofa
Chester's best friend. Essentially a dog. Licks everything, but mimics are adhesive so he gets stuck to things a lot.
The Meat Traders
(Found on the road)
Curse by the meat witch to trade meat for meat. They can ONLY accept meat in payment and only have meat to trade.
Frat Boy Doomsday Cult
Having a massive rager to celebrate the end of the world. The world doesn't end. They fight with lacrosse sticks
Billy McGee
Local old man that does tours of the catacombs. All of his ancestors are in the your, having died of riding animals such as "2 dragons". When asked how they were riding multiple animals at once, his answer is "badly"
Thray
(Owns Thray's Curiousities)
Gay vampire that runs an Antiques Store. Refuses to uncurse the cursed items cause they're more fun the way they are. Beefs with all other arcane practitioners, currently banned from the wizards uni.
I'll add more as I remember more

I'm sorry about your D&D game. Can I ask what made your players and yourself decide to restart the campaign?
(Continued from another message: "I meant in terms of just stopping the game versus continuing without the kicked player versus restarting. It's not a judgement thing I'm curious on your thought process. I think a lot of groups have gone through this.")
Oh, absolutely groups go through this all the time! Two of my players are also DMs that have had games fall through or stop due to people leaving or getting kicked. It's always a huge bummer for everyone involved. Our game's been running since mid 2021 - so that's a lot of (almost) weekly sessions. We were on session 67 I believe. I've got 900 hours logged into roll20 and a good 750+ of them are just the one game I've been running. As a DM it hurts because you put sooo much time and effort into setting it all up; having it just suddenly end totally sucks. It sucks for the other players, too, who just wanted to get together and play.
It's not the first time for us - two players at the very start of the campaign didn't vibe with the table and ended up leaving, which is totally fine! It's the first game I've ever grabbed people together to run for, so it wasn't an already established group that all had experience together yet, if that makes sense. Once they left we kept playing for nearly two more years until just recently.
When it happened I basically asked my players what THEY wanted to do. The PC of the kicked player was integral to the plot of the campaign, so do we find some way to write them out? Do I turn them into an NPC? Or did we want to restart the whole game, giving myself and the players an opportunity to try some new things? I'm not as inexperienced of a DM as I was in 2021 and felt like I could make a more cohesive game for my table. The players were excited at the idea of taking their PCs in slightly new directions to make it fresh, especially since we've been playing together consistently for a while now and the awkwardness that comes from roleplaying with new folks is gone. They've been having a blast changing builds, designs, and backstories around and we're all super stoked for Waterdeep 2.0!

Horrific DND idea
A mimic went to the other side of a hole in the wall of a dungeon. The mimic then transformed into the shape of a small crawlspace. One of the mimic's teeth is sticking out. Without rolling high in perception, the walls of the tunnel seem normal and the tooth appears to be a magical artifact or stone.
Note: The artifact is too far to reach without crawling inside. If a party member sticks their hand inside the crawlspace, have them roll a stealth check. If they decide to crawl into the crawlspace, you can decide what they need to do to survive/not get hurt. Imagine it like a venus flytrap. The tooth is the sweet smell and the rest of the mimic is the plant itself.

So like a normal person I got kind of curious and looked at the names of the petrified drow so I could try looking for possible name meanings, but I'm no drow expert. I could only look at the Drow Names site and hope for any similarities. These are my best guesses:
Dhourn (Dhaun: infested, plague. Houn: magic, trail, way)
Tumblr media
Izwae (izz: hidden, mask, masked. Wae: heir, inheritor, princess)
Tumblr media
Moy (May: beautiful, beauty, silver. Mol: blue, storm, thunder, wind. oj: aura, cloak, hide, skin)
Tumblr media
Arcagh (word arc: curve, bow. Akor/Alak: beloved, best, first. agh: breaker, destruction, end, omega)
Tumblr media
Tecothy (like Timothy? Teb: blade, sharp, sword)
Tumblr media
Artimezt (Inspired by Artemis maybe? zt: finder, hunter)
Tumblr media
Important to note that some of the similar words/names I found and used here are the feminine versions, and I remember seeing a detailed post somewhere in which someone took Kar'niss' name and tried to translate it, in which they also mentioned what it means if a male drow uses a feminine name version, but I forgot...

I had this concept for a dnd campaign that never came to fruition. He was a slime detective and he's been on my mind lately. Sooo I reworked him into this silly creature!!! She's an aspiring alchemist who helps with her father's potion shop after school
No official name yet, but I've dubbed her Jellybean in my head lol

To anyone who ever gets stuck making D&D characters, here are some ideas to steal
a changling who is pretending to be a different race. (Neither the party nor the other players know)
A warlock who is in a romantic relationship with their patron
A cleric that is actually a minor god who accidentally switched bodies with one of their clerics, and both cleric and god are trying to figure out how to switch back
A bard who is based on a non musical performance medium (a poet, an artist, a mime, etc.)
A dad who is getting into adventuring because his child is an adventurer and he wants to take an interest in their interest
Spellcaster who is always carrying a small animal into combat, just to finally reveal the animal is actually the spellcaster
A bloodhunter Dhampire who needs to suck peoples blood (or if that’s gross for you you can choose one of the other options for what dhampires crave) to use their abilities
Evil wizard who was tricked into drinking a potion that gave them a Conscience so now they feel bad when they try doing evil shit
A really scary looking Goliath who struggles with talk to people with the goal of making 100 friends
A hardened warrior who has only ever known the horrors of war, who is now trying to learn how to live in a time of peace

heres another bunch of random specific dndads headcanons, this time its teen addition! ft. Hermie, D00d and Hero
- After everything was done and solved Lincoln and Normal remade the yellow bracelets from early s1, now they're braided friendship bracelets
- Taylor has surprisingly never broken a bone
- Normal took gymnastics before getting into Mascot stuff,
- Scary makes Terry Jr. drive her to hot topic and makes him wait outside while she takes like four hours (terry is just happy shes kinda spending time with him)
- Lincoln has a photographic memory
- In elementary school Taylor tried to hide Cassandra's kitchen knives all around the house 'for survival and easy weapon access.' she still finds random knives around the house
- Hermie did ballet
- Whenever Scary is ACTUALLY mad at any of the other teens she will just call them by their full name instead of either a nickname or an insult, (ex. instead of Linc, Tay, Herm, or Norm; Normally, Taylor, Lincoln, and Herman)
- Scary/Terri's favorite food used to be baked potatoes, but Terry ruined it for her bc they had it in common
- D00d thought Hermie was just some weird guy that walked around and stalked the teens without saying anything, for like...a while, because of how much they all forgot about them
- Hermie was genderless and built like a barbie/ken doll (goofs are beyond gender)
- Lincoln was such a lonely kid when he was younger that he'd make sculptures and give them names and talk to them, notably he had a sculpture of a soccer ball he called Soccie (sock-e)
- Scary has a collection of monster energy cans, especially after everything had happened, she would drink energy drinks to not go to sleep in the paranoid fear she'd meet willy again
- Normal has an extra toe
- Taylor has a life times supply of pocky
- Lincoln makes way too much eye contact
- Hero worked at Swallows Ice Cream part time before switching to the pizza delivery job
- Hermie would have never admitted it out loud but he preferred Teen High's theatre program to Chapperal
- Normal has made and ordered so much Teeny the Teen merch that he cannot do anything without something having Teenys face on it
- D00d tried to make friends with Lark at one point, it was not successful not because Lark got mad at them, but his anti-social behavior (he has never made a friend before in his life) mixed with his fear of the doodler lead him to just kind of try to ignore them
- At one point Hermie had a big cartoonish hammer that they would smack Normal's head with whenever they thought it was funny (the hammer felt like getting hit with a balloon)
- Hero convinced Normal he was adopted like ten different times growing up, Sparrow would usually be the one to have to calm him down
- Scary cut up one of her Mom's dresses to wear for herself at one point and after everything was resolved Veronica randomly asked Scary if she'd seen the dress and Scary said the dog ate it (they don't have a dog)
- Lincoln admitted at one point that he'd never had a slurpee before so all the teens went and got them and he had such a bad brain freeze that he started crying

A cobalt blue kobold named Kobi with Kobalt brand toolbelt and tools.
He dreams of being a contractor so he can renovate dungeons.
He has an advantage with history and investigation because he knows architecture trends and building code.
"Those stairs have a secret passage because the incline is uncharacteristically too steep for the Dwarven style of this region. HOWEVER, after the Great Avalanche Mountain Wars, they would've most likely used such passagways to smuggle supplies to the war front... Also, this looks like wood rot waiting to happen. You're gonna want that sealed before the rainy season comes."

dnd npc idea: person in town, with their spouse/fiance, having the party over for dinner or sth. someone says something in Draconic and they freeze. their lover comes over and says "hey. don't ever use that fucking tongue around here again. if you do, you have to leave."
and don't explain why. your players are not owed a description of their trauma. they are politely yet firmly told that Draconic is a major trigger, and they must respect it or leave.
you can swap out the language to whatever a player uses, and spring it on your players without warning
(feel free to use btw)
