Original Love: The Four Inns on the Path of Awakening Original Love: The Four Inns on the Path of Awakening Contributor(s): Shukman, Henry (Author) Publisher: HarperOne ISBN: 0063356104 Physical Info: 1.08" H x 8.47" L x 5.83" W (0.86 lbs) 352 pages Henry Shukman has a natural, contagious and enlightened enthusiasm which his fine writing style carries so beautifully to the reader through every page. This is a book for breaking the spell of the 'me', not in the sense of erasing ourselves, but in taking the journey of awakening where we can come out from behind the surface, defended self and appear fully and transparently and even lovingly in this difficult world." -- David Whyte, author of Consolation and The Sea in You "Original Love is a lively compendium of all you want to learn about meditation, mindfulness, suffering, non-suffering, joy, coming home and being whole. All that is in this book is hard-earned, on the ground, clearly explained. Shukman so much wants to share his understanding that you can feel the excitement and longing right in the center of the still page. This book is a great friend, one who tells the simple obvious truth that is right in front of our face. And on top of all this, Shukman knows how to write, like an angel." -- Natalie Goldberg, author of Writing on Empty and Three Simple Lines "This is a book the world has been waiting for--one that speaks clearly and eloquently to the reality of love as the foundational energy of this world. I can't think of a more important project for humankind than all of us finding this love as matter of urgency. Of all the books on meditation I've read, none have so clearly laid out the finding of love as its central project. It's a beautiful book, but more important, it's one we all need, and we need it now." -- Richard Rohr, author of Falling Upward "Henry is a masterful teacher. His insight, compassion and wisdom combine to provide some of the best meditation teaching out there." -- Kelly Boys, author of The Blind Spot Effect and Director of The Foundation for a Mindful Society and the Mindful Cities project "Take a break. Fall in love with your life. Breathe in the rich fragrance of mindfulness as taught by a master Zen teacher who is also a superb poet. For beginning or advanced students of meditation, Henry Shukman will lead you seamlessly into your own original love for life as it is, and you as you are. Extraordinary in its freshness and replete with all kinds of wisdom, this book illuminates waking up naturally, aimlessly, in your own time. Enjoy it." -- Polly Young-Eisendrath, author of Love Between Equals and The Present Heart "This is one of the rare books destined to inspire new and seasoned meditators alike. Drawing on his own deep experience and years of teaching, Henry Shukman brings a lucid and refreshing cast to the fundamentals of practice, and reveals how the loving we yearn for is always, already here; love is intrinsic to what we are. Please gift yourself with this powerful, poetic, transformative guide to awakening our hearts." -- Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance "Henry Shukman is one of the wisest and most poetical teachers of dharma we have today. In an increasingly fragmented world, he is unusually good company." -- Sam Harris, New York Times bestselling author of Waking Up and host of the Making Sense podcast "[Shukman's] writing is gorgeous, funny, fascinating, and audacious." -- Rick Hanson, bestselling author of Buddha's Brain "This book, like Henry himself, is wise and deep and filled with heartfelt meditation advice and beautiful, powerful stories. You will be very glad that you've read it." -- Michael Taft, author of The Mindful Geek "A fascinating and beautiful contribution to the world of meditation by an adept in the practice." -- Roshi Joan Halifax, abbot and founder of Upaya Zen Center "Henry calls it Original Love. One of my teachers called it True Love. It can also be called A, standing for ajata, the Unborn. This is poetry which can be made reasonable, even scientific, through careful prose. Weaving poetry and prose, Henry opens with "A", the tantric symbol for the Unborn as a resource of connectivity. In my school of ordination, Shingon, there's a poem that goes like this: We're all born in the village called A. We all leave our native village. And we all return. That's all there is to say about the children of A." -- Shinzen Young, author of The Science of Enlightenment Publisher Marketing: "Powerful, poetic, transformative."--Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance\ "Henry Shukman is one of the wisest and most poetical teachers of dharma we have today. In an increasingly fragmented world, he is unusually good company."--Sam Harris New York Times bestselling author of Waking Up and host of the Making Sense podcast\\The essential meditation guide for the twenty-first century: renowned mindfulness teacher Henry Shukman replaces the concept of original sin with original love, teaching us to tap into the love that shapes our world and can transform who we are. An increasing number of people today feel disconnected, disengaged, and lonely. Many of us are seeking solace, beginning with ourselves. Original Love is the secular spiritual handbook we need to ease our troubles and find the highest possible happiness. Henry Shukman, spiritual director of Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico, provides a way forward based on four paths--Mindfulness, Support, Absorption, and Awakening--that promote growth and healing through meditation for practitioners of any level. And it works! Shukman includes inspiring stories from the students of his Original Love program that reveal how it has transformed their lives. Urgently needed, Original Love helps us create peace for ourselves and our times by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression;relaxing the mind and body;easing feelings of worry, regret, anger, and irritation;and improving decision-making and executive functioning. Finding a sense of love is a critical purpose of meditation. Finding your way back to the loving peace that lives at the center of things is Original Love. This art of Serana from Skyrim (as always, drawn by my friend @yuramoonbow, also available on twitter here) was actually not a commission, but a surprise birthday gift after they had already drawn this other piece for me.
[ Image Description: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fan art headshot of Serana Volkihar. She has a neutral expression on her face and the background is solid black. It is signed 'yura moonbow'. End ID.

i feel like dream in human aus is usually characterized as being more stoic and stern while hob is more easygoing, but i think it would be funny to have a university au where hob is the professor who's like "no work is deserving of 100%. find 27 more sources and do it again" while dream is just like "they put their dreams into it, hob đŸ„ș A+! A+! A+! A+!"

Crown Shyness, Tasmania, Australia: Social distancing is a behaviour that millions of people of around the world are now familiar with, used as a tool to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Some trees have also been keeping their distance from one another. This phenomenon is called crown shyness.. Crown shyness (also canopy disengagement, canopy shyness, or inter-crown spacing is a phenomenon observed in some tree species, in which the crowns of fully stocked trees do not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps. like god you guys need to get like a government stipend for explaining racism and colonialism to fandom bloggers or at the very least a big red button to press that kills them immediately bc like I remember last summer trying to talk about colonialism in star trek (a very basic observation) and that was some of the most intensely negative reactions I’ve gotten from people on here about fandom in years lol. truly don’t know how you do it on a daily basis. I can imagine the constant sense of alienation whenever interacting with people who are basically just telling you to leave their digital whites-only neighbourhood

If someone is trying to justify why it's okay for them to be cruel to you over your identity, you have full permission to stop talking to them. No one deserves to be abused.

hello! different anon but still a crushing-on-friends related ask. i'm wondering about your experience with remaining friends with someone you had a crush on (and/or the other way around) (assuming that both parties were/are aware about said crushing). like i guess the friendship and bond inevitably changes afterwards but does it also modify the closeness and and or..... i don't know exactly, just curious of how you personally navigate(d) this type or situation
sorry if this is turning your inbox into a relationship advice dump &feel free not to answer ofc!! thank u :)
my view on this might be unhelpful but i truly and deeply believe that to love and to be loved is never shameful or insulting and this whole idea of having to hide out of embarrassment or fear is poisoning the brain. some of my friends are in love with me. some i am in love with. some of us are compatible some are not. some are just as happy now as they could ever be just existing next to each other instead of together. it does not matter life on this one earth is so short why would it matter. i refuse out of principle to have complicated thoughts about beautiful things.

there's one attorney who I work with quite a bit who seems to live a charmed life---she's got high-achieving kids, a beautiful house, and is always doing something swanky, jet-setting off to different parts of the world, attending massive, sold-out concerts, hanging out in the influencer tent at political rallies, etc.
yet rather than being a lovely person, lit from within by just how blessed, how wonderful her life is.....she's always short, condescending, talks over people in meetings, consistently picks up minor things to worry about and isn't prepared even for meetings where she is a critical decision-maker. For lack of a better term, she's pissy, all the time, unless you're discussing her and her wonderful life.
and honestly, I just don't understand it. No, that's not true, I understand it---it just makes me deeply sad. You've achieved everything that a reasonable person could want, more even....and yet your coworkers spend their days thinking up ways not to involve you, to get around you, to avoid you entirely. It didn't have to be like this, and yet it is.

I know we can see that the diaz parents are falling back into old patterns — maybe worse, because it comes at the heels of them actually repairing their relationship (at least with ramon) — but I'm so irritated that the show is explicitly framing it as eddie learning from his father's mistakes and doing something right instead of ramon encouraging eddie to overcorrect based on his own issues and helena being way too eager to replace eddie in chris' life, without even trying to help mediate, have eddie and chris talk, cool down, or help eddie solve the problem in any way (which! btw is exactly the same thing they did in texas! where their solution to an overworked struggling eddie was not 'we will help you in any way' it was 'we want to take your son from you') anyway there's no way this will be framed as a bad thing in the context of the show, now or later in s8, and is straight up character regression for the diaz parents AND eddie for the sake of drama and is ultimately lazy writing
