My niece has been watching the Digimon Adventure 1999 dub and what’s really striking me about it is how often I am doing something else and walk past her as she’s watching it and then I am suddenly sitting down and watching it and getting legitimately invested

— A Getting Into Digimon Master Post
▙▚ TOYS - ANIME - GAMES - COMICS & MANGA - NOVELS - CARDS ▞▟
I've been getting asked a couple times how to get into Digimon, so I figured I collect some posts and info in a master post!
Digimon is a multi media franchise, so there really is no one way to get into Digimon. But I hope this post can help people getting an idea what to look for.

Shout ot to wikimon.net for a ton of the information, and to Digimon Basic - an amazing resource for Digimon material!
▙▚ DIGIMON WEB
As I mentioned, Digimon is a multi media franchise, and there is some content of just general Digimon lore on Digimon Web. There some fun facts to read up upon! There's also the official Digimon Reference Book / Encyclopedia online.
• Digimon Encyclopedia • Appmon Encyclopedia • Agumon Expert Research Profiles • Digimon Journal
▙▚ TOYS
So Digimon, or Digital Monsters, originally started as a virtual pet toy. I made a Post about this origin and relation to the Tamagotchi frachise before. ▞▟ Check it out here >>
Besides that, Digimon released many many "Digivice" toys tying into the animes, but also figurines and much more. I don't have nearly enough expertise to cover them in more details, but there is a LOT! You can check out the LCD Toy history on the official website, and even that doesn't cover all of it!
▙▚ ANIME
The first and second season of the anime, and the surrounding movies, share a continuity, but aside from that all seasons are self contained and you can watch whichever you want.
Notably, Adventure recently got newly released blu rays with japanese audio and english subtitles! ▞▟ You can get them at the Crunchyroll shop >>
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know some people like the english dub, but personally, I honestly don't like it at all... I do really like the german dub, but I really recommend watching the Japanese version. It's my favorite and is considered canon.
Adventure: Digimon Adventure (Movie) (1999) •Digimon Adventure (Season 1) (1999-2000) Digimon Adventure: Our War Game (Movie) (2000) •Digimon Adventure 02 (Season 2) (2000-2001) Digimon Adventure 02: Hurricane Touchdown!! Supreme Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals (Movie) (2000) (Digimon the Movie is a super cut of all previous movies done by the dub team) Digimon Adventure 02: Diaboromon Strikes Back (Movie) (2001) •Digimon Adventure tri. (6 Movies or 24 Episodes) (2015-2018) Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna (Movie) (2020) Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning (Movie) (2023) [Digimon Adventure: (Reboot) (2020)] Tamers: • Digimon Tamers (Season 3) (2001-2002) Digimon Tamers: The Adventures’ Battle (Movie) (2001) Digimon Tamers: The Runaway Digimon Express (Movie) (2002) Frontier: • Digimon Frontier (Season 4) (2002-2003) Digimon Frontier: Revival of the Ancient Digimon (Movie) (2002) Savers/Data Squad: • Digimon Savers / Data Squad (Season 5) (2006-2007) Digimon Savers The Movie: Ultimate Power! ▙▚ GAMES
Like the anime, Digimon games are almost all completely self contained. Essentially the only exception is a couple WonderSwan games centered around Ryo Akiyama. They're also almost all widely different! No Digimon game is truly like another! In the list below I put well known games in bold, and more obscure games, or the ones never released in the West in small. I also left out all "dead" mobile games.
· Digital Monster Ver. S: Digimon Tamers (1998) (Sega Saturn) [JP only] • Digimon World (1999) (PS1) · Digital Monster Ver. WonderSwan (1999) (WonderSwan) [JP only] · Digimon World: Digital Card Battle (1999) (PS1) [JP only] · Digimon Adventure: Anode Tamer & Cathode Tamer (1999/2000) (WonderSwan) (EN release "Veedramon Version") · Digimon Adventure 02: Digital Partner (2000) (WonderSwan) [JP only] · Pocket Digimon World (2000) (PS1) [JP only] > Pocket Digimon World: Wind Battle Disc (2000) (PS1) [JP only] > Pocket Digimon World: Cool & Nature Battle Disc (2001) (PS1) [JP only] • Digimon World 2 (2000) (PS1) · Digimon Adventure 02: Tag Tamers (2000) (WonderSwan) [JP only] · Digimon Adventure 02: D1 Tamers (2000) (WonderSwan Color) [JP only] ·Digimon World: Digital Card Arena (2000) (PS1) ·Digimon Tamers: Pocket Culumon (2001) (PS1) [JP only] ·Digimon Tamers: Digimon Medley (2001) (WonderSwan Color) [JP only] ·Digimon Park (2001) (PS1) [JP only] • Digimon Tamers: Battle Spirit (2001) (WonderSwan Color / GBA) > Digimon Tamers: Battle Spirit Ver. 1.5 (2002) (WonderSwan Color) [JP only] > Digimon Frontier: Battle Spirit / Battle Spirit 2 (2002) (WonderSwan Color / GBA) ·Digimon Typing (2001) (PC) [JP only] • Digimon Tamers: Battle Evolution / Rumble Arena (2001) (PS1) ·Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer (2001) (WonderSwan Color) [JP only] • Digimon World 3 / 2003 (2002) (PS1) ·Digital Monsters: D-Project (2002) (WonderSwan Color) [JP only] ·Digimon Racing (2004) (GBA) • Digimon Battle Chronicle / Rumble Arena 2 (2004) (PS2 / GCN) • Digimon World X / World 4 (2005) (PS2 / GCN) • Digimon Story / Digimon World DS (2006) (DS) ·Digimon Savers: Another Mission / Digimon World Data Squad (2006) (PS2) • Digimon Story: Sunburst & Moonlight / Digimon World Dawn & Dusk (2007) (DS) ·Digimon Championship / Digimon World Championship (2008) (DS) ·Digimon Masters (2009) (PC) [Korea only] · Digimon Story: Lost Evolution (2010) (DS) [JP only; EN Fan Translation exists] · Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars Blue & Red (2011) (DS) [JP only] • Digimon World Re:Digitize (2012) (PSP) > Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode (2013) (3DS) [JP only; EN Fan translation exists] · Digimon Adventure (2013) (PSP) [JP only; EN Fan translation exists] • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (2015) (PSV, PS4, Switch, PC) • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory (2015) (PSV, PS4, Switch, PC) • Digimon World -next 0rder- (2016) (PSV, PS4, Switch, PC) · Digimon Universe Appli Monsters (2016) (3DS) [JP only] · Digimon New Century (2021) (Smart Phone) [CH only] • Digimon Survive (2022) (PS4, Switch, PC, XBO)
There's also a couple Fan Games I've been enjoying, that I want to shout out here:
• Digital Partner by Aludeku • Digital Tamers 2 by dragonrod342 • Digital Monster NET DRIVER by kuhamaven / Alice Studios
▙▚ COMICS & MANGA
Digimon has several comic or manga adaptations, some longer but many short promotional works for new releases.
Although there's way more older Manga, I will start with a list of modern Comics/Manga, as we have received a variety recently!
The big one right now is Digimon Liberator! I've been loving it personally. It's a full color web comic, so it has not normal page layout and instead is just scrolling. When it first released I made a post with my Spoiler Free Opinion on the Prologue and Chapter one! ▞▟ Check it out here >> Read Digimon Liberator on the Official Website, GlobalComix or Webtoon!
But Liberator is actually not the only comic currently running!! Thanks to the Digimon Comic project we have FIVE more ongoing series to check out on the official Digimon Web site!
• Digimon Rikollection by Okutsuwa Waga • Digimon Paradox by Minato Ayumu • Digimon Knuckles by Soda Ichigo • Story of the Royal Knights by Yabuno Tenya • Digimon Seekers ~Witch of the Crossroads~ by Kariki Hajime
If you read any of the comics above, show your support by answering the survey on the website!
• C'mon Digimon: The capering monster BUN (1997) (Author: Izawa Hiroshi | Illus: Yabuno Tenya | Publ: Shueisha - Akamaru Jump) • Digimon Adventure V-Tamer (1998-2003) (Author: Izawa Hiroshi | Illus: Yabuno Tenya | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon Chronicle (2003) (Author: Shisheni Okorarana | Illus: Moriyama Soh | Publ: Bandai) • Digimon Next (2005-2008) (Author: Okano Takeshi | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon Xros Wars (2010-2012) (Author: Nakashima Yuu | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon World Re:Digitize (2012) (Author: Fujino Kouhei | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon World Re:Digitize Encode (2013) (Author: Fujino Kouhei | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (2015) (Author: Fukuda Ikumi | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon Universe Appli Monsters (2016-2017) (Author: Akamine Naoki | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon Universe Appli Monsters: Appmon Academy!! (2016-2017) (Author: Hirose Katsuki | Publ: Shueisha - Saikyo Jump) • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory (2017) (Author: Akamine Naoki | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump) • Digimon Chronicle X (2018-2020) (Author: Moriyama Soh | Publ: Shueisha - V-Jump / Digimon Web) • Digimon Dreamers (2021-2024) (Author: Yabuno Tenya | Publ: Shueisha - Saikyo Jump / Digimon Web)
▙▚ NOVELS
There two big web Novels of note for the Digimon franchise. Firs one is Digimon Seekers, which ran from 2023-2024 and consistes of 4 Chapters plus an Epilogue. You can read it on the official Website, but many fans noted the english translation being not great at certain points, so some dedicated fans edited the translation to fix the issues.
The second is Digimon Liberator, which is not simply a novel version of the web comic, but instead tells the story from the perspective of a different protagonist! From what I can tell, the translation for this one is better, although they sometimes mess up the card effects, so make sure to read the actual cards, which are included as pictures.
• Digimon Seekers: Official - Fan Edited Translation • Digimon Liberator: Official Website
▙▚ CARDS
Finally, what this blog is all about really, the Card Game. There have been many Digimon Card Games over the years, but I'm really only familiar with the current one. If you want to try learning it, there is a tutorial app in the Play Store, and a Rules video on the official YouTube channel that covers the essentials. There are also Fan made simulators to play online, with dedicated fan bases that you will surely find people to play with or show you the ropes!
If you just like the look of some of the cards, I encourage you to check the pricing on cards you got your eyes on. If the card isn't insanely diffcult to get and important for meta decks, you have fairly good chances to get some gorgeous cards for reasonable prices! I also collect Pokémon Cards, and let me tell you, the production quality of the Digimon Cards is leagues above.

**** Yes, this movie has an overly long title. I had a hard time deciding whether to highlight it in bold or not.

Digimon Adventure Reboot Sequel AU - Prologue: Dreams
Tumblr media
Summary: It's been years since the Chosen Children have saved both the Digital World and the Real World back in 2020. Things are mostly peaceful... Or so Taichi keeps telling himself, as he has been haunted by dreams for years - dreams about adventures he hasn't lived through himself, everything is familiar yet a little bit weird. They're becoming more and more vivid as time goes by, messing with his head, his perception, his memories - and he's not sure how long he can continue to be his most courageous self without anyone else noticing the cracks.
Chapter list: [Prologue] [0] [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
Resources: [This pretty little AU idea that hasn't left my head ever since] [Designs] [First Idea] [Playlist] [Ao3]
Word count: 900
When the dreams had first begun, Taichi hadn’t given it much thought.
"I haven't given up.”
Dreaming about adventures in the Digital World – considering how often he had gone gate-hopping alongside various of his friends for years now, ever since they had saved the place for the first time –, shouldn’t be surprising.
“You guys taught me that there's always something I can do until the end.”
He hadn’t even wondered about how different the Digital World had looked – things were often a little to the left within dreams, they weren’t exactly how one experienced them in real life after all. Places, people, clothes, devices… Nothing too worrisome.
For the first weeks, months, there wasn’t even a need for him to question the frequency of his dreams – since, at first, he quickly forgot about them shortly after waking up anyway. But then, slowly, but steadily, things had started to become more vivid.
“The future will continue and become connected.”
He began hearing the voices more clearly, recognizing most of them immediately – like a long forgotten yet familiar memory, seeping into his waking hours and sneaking back into his head. Which, again, didn’t happen all the time and also not consistently, but when he met up with his friends, asking Sora, Koushirou and the others for another trip into the net, he occasionally felt reminded again.
Of islands, trolleys, mountains. Of black gears, tags, cards. Of monkeys, vampires and clowns. Sometimes, he woke up feeling like someone had punched him in the face, other times, tears were streaming down his cheeks.
“I'll pass it on to you. Our... Our grown up... Hope.”
Still, he had decided to keep it all to himself – not matter how much he had been bothered by a slight sting of guilt in his chest whenever his glance had crossed Hikari’s, first thing in the morning. There had been no urgency to act. Years had passed and, aside from a few minor calls, their duty as Chosen Children had been “on hold” for the most part, so most of the travels to the Digital World had happened on their own devices. But whenever he entered the void, with Agumon right next to him, the voices, the images of his friends had become more detailed.
Nevertheless, he had gone through the entirety of middle school without telling a soul. About other voices he had never heard before, dark towers, digital eggs. How the person he saw himself as in his dreams seemed so strange yet so much like home that it scared him sometimes. He had brushed it aside every single time.
But now, in his second year of high school, they had almost turned into aggressive visions.
“Listen, Yagami.”
Last night, his dream had revolved around someone he had seen several times before – but only in his dreams. He appeared to be a teacher, his teacher to be exact. Sitting on the floor of some sort of control room, covered in blood, talking to him. Taichi himself had been stuck in a capsule, a countdown clock right next to him. Time was running out.
“No matter how hard reality is up ahead, don't ever give up.”
He had been about to die. And there was nothing he could have done. He remembered how his dream self had tried to smash the capsule into pieces, getting through to him. But it was all in vain. Regardless of how much he had wanted to scream, he couldn’t move.
“You guys go build the future.”
Even though he had never seen that man in real life, he had felt a connection. Felt like he owed him to get him out of that place this time. As if to make up for what he couldn’t have done before.
“Dream big!"
And yet, it had been all for naught. Once again, he had woken up in tears. Had checked whether there had been blood anywhere on his body, as it had felt almost frighteningly real. Not only that, his mouth felt awfully dry, as if he had screamed the word “Sensei!” out loud himself.
Heart pounding, sweating, Taichi couldn't help but wonder how long he could still keep quiet. Under no circumstances would he worry any of his friends about this – that he had sworn to himself. He was the bearer of the Crest of Courage, he had always, always found a way to push through, smile in the face of adversity. The others relied on him for that. The voices kept telling him that this was part of his duty – be courageous for the sake of everyone. More courageous than the self he saw in his dreams at least – who seemed to fall deeper into despair with every passing dream.
Taichi didn’t understand why there was such a discrepancy – as he had finally begun to ask questions. He felt sympathy for his dream self, a sense of remorse circling around all of his actions, as if there were a million things he regretted and wanted to make right. Watching himself like that only left him with the urge to… Give himself a hug. And ask him why he pushed his friends away like that, why he was so at odds with Yamato, so distanced from Sora, Koushirou and even Hikari…
He wouldn’t let that happen to himself. He would push further. Without worrying anyone about it.
He had to after all.

Digimon Adventure 02 Drama CD (Armor Evolution to the Unknown)
Translation here
There are definitely perks to binging a franchise with a big fandom and one of them is being able to easily locate more niche content like this. HUGE thank you to the translator and Youtube uploader who made this post possible. I wish there was more hype for drama CDs so we could find them all in one spot, but I take what I can get. This was a blast.
Track 1 - Daisuke’s Great Valentine’s Day Plan (listen here)
Daisuke wants to be more popular with the ladies on Valentine's Day so he goes around looking for manly mentors, starting with Yamato and Koushiro. This kinda reminded me of the My Little Pony episode where the pony's try each others special talents lol. The message is obviously "be yourself"
My favorite part was when Daisuke tried to speak more like Koushiro and Koushiro flipping out at Daisuke for messing with his computer 😂
The girls whispering about Sora and Yamato's stubborn personalities was pretty funny too. I never thought about that connection before. I don't really think having the same personality makes you compatible though (usually it's the opposite)
I like that this is formatted like an anime episode with the theme song and the narrator. Makes it feel more like an official extension of the show.
Track 2 - The Heart Thief (listen here)
These drama CDs almost match the vibe of the 02 English dub because they throw in a random gag like every 2 minutes (and a lot of obscure pop culture references). Shout out to the translator who put in tons of footnotes explaining the more confusing jokes.
I had to pause many times listening to this to remember who these characters were because this track focused on a lot of side characters.
The gag of Hiroaki and the narrator having the same voice actor was hilarious. I guess these things stand out more in audio-only formats.
How the heck did the girls not realize Boltmon was a digimon when they first saw him?? HE'S GREEN. The "looking for a heart" thing feels very Wizard of Oz. I guess they just wanted to make the villain Valentine's themed.
Track 3 - What the Children Can Do (Listen here)
Lol this was the most Japanese/footnote packed track yet. So many voice actor gags and references to dialects that I've never heard of/can barely tell apart! I do wonder if the children listening even understand any of these jokes (like do they really know Finnish rock band Leningrad Cowboys?) I guess they'd think the accents are funny at least. This drama CD would be really hard to localize...
The joke about the group needing to split up or else "no one will get many lines" killed me 😂
I feel like the people most entertained by these drama CDs are the voice actors themselves, they seem to be having a blast.
Track 4 - Daisuke, Dark Evolution! (listen here)
Okay, this was clearly written in the 2000s because the humor is very "LOLRANDUM XD" Luckily, I'm a millennial, so I have a soft spot for that kind of humor. A Japanese commenter said it well カオス過ぎるw (too chaotic lol).
The funniest part of these is how unserious the monster of the week is. Like they're taken hostage but they're still goofing around and then the enemy joins in on the gags too lol
Daisuke failing hard at being a dark hero was funny, especially when he asked V-Mon's permission to kick him and then immediately apologized afterwards
Ken is obviously fangirl bait (as they joke about in this track) but I never found his Digimon Kaiser persona to be the cool side, I think most real fangirls would like his normal self better (without the dorky outfit and hair)
I'm glad the moms got a random cameo and it was fun to hear them interact lightheartedly
Sora got the ick from Yamato's tap dancing lmao. Incidentally, I don't remember ever seeing tap dancing in anime like ever? (unTAPPED market 😜)
I'm bitter that they gave Wormmon a cute digivolution for the drama CD but not the anime 😑I've never cared for Stingmon, personally.
Tumblr media
Track 5 - Armor Evolving in Chaos (Listen here)
Oh man, I had a big smile on my face the whole time listening to this, it was so fun. All of them scrambled the digimentals and revealed a bunch of new digivolutions, some legit, but most of them gag digivolutions. Sooo silly. Gomamon even says "nothing makes sense right now but oh well!" lol
My jaw DROPPED when I saw that Linkmon was a Cyborg 009 homage. Are you kidding me!?! You mean another series I binged for my blog has a connection to Digimon??? Stunned. This is why I like to absorb all of pop culture cuz then these references really hit.
I wish there were illustrations for all the joke digimon (like Selfishmon) lol.
More funny meta jokes when they defeat Boltmon and no one really knows how they did it.
Wow, this one was a hoot and a holler. I think gag versions of serious(ish) shows might be my favorite thing. I give this a 7 out of 10.

BTW, regarding this post re: the digivices in that Beyond crowdfunding art -- I'd like to point out that 02TB did not mean they couldn't make the digivices ever again, but that they weren't more needed to form bonds with a digimon and a human partner.
The movie puts a whole emphasis that at some point of the timeline, the digivices gained this role to mean you're a Chosen Child with a digimon partner, when the actual role they played was to be a tool and assist the human partner to raise their digimon.
yes, like the Crests. And we all know what happens in Adventure episode 53 & 54, right?? -- The kids realize that the power of the Crests were always inside themselves. So the tags only existed with the purpose to guide them to achieve that power by themselves.
If you remember well... Taichi and Hikari in the very first movie of the franchise had no digivices when they had contact with a Botamon who evolved into Koromon and then Agumon and once more to Greymon. Yes, there was like NO DIGIVICE depicted or mentioned before. The math count starts indeed with Rui because he had a digivice when he met Ukkomon for the first time.
⚠ I'd ask for pardon for the tri. fans, but while I don't believe in a legit complete retcon, I do believe the OVA staff misinterpreted the lore -- The "first" Five Chosen depicted in Adv'99 last episodes and also briefly mentioned in the novels cannot be the origins of the Chosen Children or else the whole digi-partnership math rule would make no sense. To explain it, let's just point out that the math rule must start with ONE individual in 1996 and then the year by year that number will DOUBLE. If you had like, FIVE kids at the start, the doubling math per year will also go out of the control -- and thus the Epilogue (2028) would have, like... 5 times the actual number (which is already 8.589.934,592 Chosen Children around the world, so this number times 5 would be... 42.949.672,960 people partnered in the world, i think?). However, i'd like to believe they're the Chosen Children from 1998 and they are the first human group to go to the Digital World. Therefore if there's a change in order to keep Maki and Daigo as part of the main lore, they are not in high positions as the Data Bureau or too older in 2005. And I'd like to prefer to ignore pt5 & pt6 because I don't like their deaths sorry, they're important to me... 😭
ANYWAY, i'd prefer to believe the digivices in Beyond are figurative. Perhaps in the same shape as Adv'99 ep 53-54 showed the Crest like this to rep the power inside their hearts:
Tumblr media
And it would've been cool if every time the Chosen had to evolve their partners, something like this but in the shape of a digivice could appear in their hands or chest idk...
I'd prefer to believe the digivices are now the smartphones... They're so cool gdi...!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
look at how cool those are!! Can we PLEASE keep them...

Is there a TTRPG that allows for the “Youths Having Fun Being Fantastic” “genre” of works like Persona 5 and Codename: Kids Next Door combined with the aesthetic of Digimon: Cyber Sleuth and early Bakugan? I’m sorry if I sent this one before, I forgor :(
THEME: Fun, Fantastic Youths.
Hello there, so I had to do a little bit of research to see what kind of tied these pieces of media together. What I looked for was games about kids with something special about them, a lighthearted tone, and an anime art style. I tried to focus on games that were set in the modern day, but not everything in this list matches that qualification.

Shepherds, by AirkSeablade.
Shepherds is a tabletop RPG about young members of a League of professional do-gooders, who strive to protect the peace and safety of ordinary people.  These young Shepherds will forge bonds of trust with each other, grow and mature as people, and possibly foil some evil plots along the way.
Shepherds puts us into a fantasy history where technology is starting to change the world around you. Your characters are young members of a special organization, with special training or abilities to help them protect the people around them. The author describes the genre as “hopeful fantasy”, inspired by the “Tales of _” video games and the Trails/Kiseki video game line.
System-wise, the game is Powered by the Apocalypse, which means that you only need 2d6 to play, and your characters will draw from a series of Moves in order to find out what happens next, with various categories for action scenes, relationship-building, moving through various in-game processes, and using magic.
The Magical Land of Yeld, by Yeldstuff.
Somewhere there is a door to a magical land. A land of secrets and treasure. Of exploration and adventure. Where children can become heroes, discover their inner strength and stand against monsters and magic. And once you enter, the only thing you have to fear is that you can never go home!
The Magical Land of Yeld is a multi-session tabletop roleplaying game focusing on adventure, hero building and shared storytelling. Like the classic console games we love, adventures in Yeld are designed to allow you to explore colorful and strange lands, seek out secret dungeons and temples and challenge powerful boss monsters as your characters grow to unlock new skills and discover more powerful weapons and treasure.
The main features of The Magical Land of Yeld that I think connect to your request is the fact that you are playing children, and that your children have magical abilities. However, the setting is decidedly fantastic, rather than taking place in the modern day - although if you like the secret worlds of Persona, you might find the isekai themes in this game to be adjacent to what you’re looking for. Similar to Kids Next Door, there’s always a threat of no longer being a child - although instead of turning into an adult, you’re in danger of turning into a monster. If you want a game with cartoon-ish threats but high stakes, you might like The Magical Land of Yeld.
Oddity High, by Derek Ehlmann.
You're a high school student that's probably nowhere close to being ordinary. Whether you’re dealing with aliens, psychics, ghosts, demons, eldritch gods or sentient cats is up to you - but whatever it is, you’re in the thick of it. Fortunately, by happenstance or by design, you’ve got a gang of like-minded, equally-abnormal friends at your side - and with their help, you’ve got a fighting chance at surviving it. Just don’t forget that you’re also going to need to survive high school, as well.
Oddity High is powered by the Apocalypse Engine, the system used by legendary and award-winning games such as Dungeon World, Monster of the Week, The Sprawl, Urban Shadows, Fellowship, and many, many more.
The Persona games are one of the many inspirations behind this game, about teenagers with abnormal powers. You combine your high-school type playbook with another, stranger playbook called your Other-Life playbook. Many of these playbooks are nods to various tropes in anime, such as masked superheroes, kids with the ability to re-write reality, or someone in control of another entity that is vastly more powerful than any human being.
Judging by the references for this game, Oddity High might lean a little more to the serious side than the goofy side, but if you want really larger-than-life anime hi-jinx, you might want to check out this game.
Clash! Shounen Battle Roleplay, by Sabrina Hawthorne.
CLASH! Shonen Battle Roleplay is a Tabletop Roleplaying Game about dramatic fights and the dramatic emotions those fights represent. It’s a game inspired by classic anime & manga like One Piece, Bleach and Naruto. Play as big, bombastic characters with all sorts of cool powers, facing off against pirates, monsters, and other powerful people just like you.
Shounen manga feels very fitting for games and media like Bakugan, Digimon, and Persona 5, which is why CLASH might have something of what you’re looking for. Your characters will all have cool powers and you’ll be constantly jumping into fight scenes, sinking your emotions and beliefs into the conflict. This is a game meant to be colourful and bold, with an emphasis on teamwork and being heroic.
Right now the game is in play-test, so there isn’t really any art to accompany the game. However, the game is pay-what-you-want while it’s in play-test, so you can check it out for free to see if the themes of the game resonate with what you’re looking for.
Cosmic Ray Kids, by Hedgemaze Press.
Cosmic Ray Kids is a single-page (front and back) atomic-age adventure roleplaying game for all ages. Play as superpowered youngsters who fight the forces of evil with heroics and heart! If you like The Powerpuff Girls, Fantastic Four, or Teen Titans Go!, you’ll love Cosmic Ray Kids!
Cosmic Ray Kids emulates the goofy, over-the-top mood of Saturday morning cartoons, with simple rules and a push-your-luck system that always has you trying to balance how much you want to risk. This is a great game for villains as goofy and gonzo as Father or The Delightful Kids From Down The Lane from Kids Next Door. It’s not necessarily styled in the same way as Persona 5 or Bakugan as - written, but I think it’s a light enough game that you could create your own setting that matches closer to what you’re looking for.
You might also want to check out….
Vibe Check, by Ostrichmonkey Games.
Powered by Cereal, by bismuth.
Teenagers with Attitude, by CardboardHyperfix.
Under the Neighbourhood, by Quest Friends.

The Chosen One: Missed the Call
Tumblr media
So, let's talk about Chosen One deconstructions. And let's start with one, that can be interesting - and notably more interesting than the example I used as a GIF above.
The trope deconstruction of the day is: "Missed the Call".
Basically, you have a Chosen One or multiple chosen ones. But basically when destiny send out the Call to Adventure, they happened to have bad reception, be otherwise busy or maybe the call got lost in the post. As it happens. One way or another, there is chosen and usually some sort of evil out to destroy the world, and the Chosen just does not get out on the adventure, because they just did not receive the call.
Hikari in Digimon Adventure is of course one such example - even though technically speaking in her case this only happened because the writers had already written the first 15 episodes or so, when it was decided to add her into the series. lol So yeah, the only explanation of her being absent until then was her having missed the call.
Toei/Bandai do love this trope though for their eventual 6th Ranger character, that tend to be a mainstay in their original stuff. So basically Digimon, PreCure and Kamen Rider will bring this trope up again and again. Characters tend to miss the call based on just being not available at the moment, being dead or in a coma (if I had a nickle for everytime this happened...), or being brainwashed by the bad guy at the beginning of the story.
Though sadly, though naturally given that these tend to be for kids, the outcome tends to be: "Oh well, they get their powers around episode 26 and then we will get a new powerful team attack or something." Generally speaking there are usually not a lot of super serious results of them missing the call. And if a character missed the call based on being dead (which to my knowledge only happened once - Digimon Frontier) they kindly will get eventually revived by whatever power was responsible for the choosing of the heroes.
This is a shame, I think, given that this trope does have some interesting story option, if played straight. Be it in deconstructing the idea of the "chosen hero" to begin with, or be it just in giving a story higher stakes.
Because one way you can play with this is to go: "Eh, where is the hero?" - "They did not show up, sir." - "Shit........ So, who wants to go instead?"
I mean, ironically Shrek kinda goes into that direction with the first two movies. Shrek was not the "fated hero" to safe Fiona. But he did it anyway, because the actual hero was a bit too slow on hsi part.
Another way to do it would be: "Oh, hi, Chosen One. You decided to show up after all. Only you are 5 years late. Well, the world has already been destroyed." That is an interesting thing to come to as well.
Generally speaking, though, I think this is one of those, where you can do a whole lot of stuff if you just tried to play around with it a bit more.

TaiKouvember 2024, Day 6: Light
(Sequel to Day 5: Hope, although mostly unneeded to enjoy this.)
“So, that’s why you’re a wreck today?” Hikari giggles, gently rubbing Gatomon’s belly as the feline Digimon purrs warmly.
“Yes! It was horrible, Hikari; you need to put Takeru on a leash or something!” Taichi exclaims, wiping his face down in an attempt to take the tension off.
“Onii-chan, I can barely contain a few children; an adult is well out of my league. Not to mention I tried that already and he liked it.” She gives Taichi a playful smirk, taking great joy in the pained reaction from her older brother.
“I don’t understand what’s so wrong anyway. You humans overcomplicate everything.” Gatomon shakes her head, clueless and frankly uncaring of the gravity of Takeru’s intrusions.
“I concur, humans truly are mysterious creatures.” Tentomon says, leaning into Taichi’s side in an attempt to comfort him. Grateful for the touch, Taichi begins to scratch under the big bug’s chin.
“On another note, Onii-chan, Gatomon would like to spend some time with you. The little softie.” The young woman beams at her Digimon, who only raises her chin and looks away in response.
“Yes, well, I hear Tentomon particularly enjoys your salmon, so I feel inclined to try some myself.” Gatomon tries to deflect, huffing as Hikari pets her.
“The salmon was good last night!” Tentomon asserts, raising his claw up to accentuate his point.
“Oh! Uh, sure? We’ll pick some up on the way home,” Taichi tilts his head, somewhat confused but not disliking another Digimon around, asking, “How long will you be staying?”
“Just for a few days.” Gatomon replies simply, leaning into the affection as she, partly, gives up the tough cat act.
“I have a school trip, which is just overnight, but a few friends and I will be touring for another night. So take good care of her while I’m gone, or I won’t forgive you!” Hikari takes on a more serious expression, pouting at her brother.
“Of course! I’ll pamper her even more than you do!” Taichi laughs as a waitress comes by. They give her their orders and eat peacefully, casually talking in between bites. School, friends, gossip, previous adventures, a little bit of everything, until their lunch breaks end.
“What a shame, Onii-chan; I have to go pack. Again, take care of Gatomon! And Gatomon? Feel free to tease Onii-chan as much as you want!” She laughs, kissing the two Digimon’s heads and her brother’s cheek before squeezing him as tight as she can in a hug, which he returns. The three of them then waved her off as she parted.
“Alright , Gatomon, Tentomon, let’s run some errands before we head home.” Taichi recommends paying for the meal before sliding out of the seat.
“I have no objections.
“Let’s pick up a treat for Koushirou-han!”
“Hmm, good idea. They’ve been rather stressed, right?” Taichi grins and pats the heads of his companions, leading them off on their new adventure.
After a rather uneventful but pleasant time, Taichi returns with some groceries and Digimon in tow. Tentomon immediately goes for Koushirou’s office as Gatomon checks the place out.
“Looks nice, not as dingy as your old apartment.” Gatomon observes, quick to lay down, and starfish lazily.
“Well, when your partner makes so much, it’s easy to upgrade.” Taichi smiles warmly, proud of Koushirou’s accomplishments.
“Hmm, and what about you?” Gatomon questions, sitting up now that the topic has piqued her interest.
“Well, I’m focusing more on school, and...”
“Hey, don’t feel ashamed, Taichi. You put your all into what you need to, and that’s what’s important.”
“Koushirou said the same thing, but...”
“‘But’ nothing; listen to them. They’ve never been wrong before.” Gatomon counters, giving Taichi a stern but caring look.
With a sigh Taichi nods and agrees, acknowledging how great Koushirou is for shouldering so much. It’s at this moment that he’s reminded of the wrapped package in his hand. It’s a simple box, wrapped in dinosaur wrapping paper, but hopefully Koushirou would enjoy it all the same. Debating on when to gift it, Taichi decides to set it in a drawer and, hopefully, remember to gift it later.
After checking the time, Taichi decides to pop in to Koushirou’s office, softly knocking so as to not scare his love as he enters the room.
“Yes, Taichi-san?” Koushirou smiles up at him, their soft eyes and sweet lips drawing Taichi in to plant some kisses. He begins to get greedy, kissing deeper before Koushirou softly pushes Taichi away.
“You know my one rule,” they say simply, pointing to a curled up Tentomon taking a nap, “no funny business in front of the Digimon.”
Taichi nods and sighs, keeping his hands mostly to himself while giving his partner tamer affection, resulting in a firm shoulder massage.
“Still working even on a Sunday?” Taichi questions, looking over to the screen but just seeing garbled-looking lines of text and graphs. No wonder Tentomon fell asleep.
“Someone found a zero-day in our SSL protocol implementation, so I’m patching and pentesting our services just to be sure we’re no longer at risk.”
“This couldn't result in another Diaboromon, can it…?”
“If it could, do you think I’d be so casual? I’d have called up every Chosen in the world to be on standby as we get Daisuke-kun and Ichijouji-kun to handle it.” They respond practically, eliciting a nod and sigh from Taichi. Koushirou, sensing their partner’s emotions, firmly holds his hands in their own, massaging them.
“You’re still doing your best, Tai; please don’t forget that.” Koushirou says tenderly, smiling up at their partner once again. Taichi returns that smile, still unsure but happy to be believed in. However, Koushirou must soon get back to work, and Taichi leaves to study before starting dinner.
While it was a difficult task, Taichi did successfully get Gatomon to let them have salmon tomorrow, as they already had it yesterday. Instead, today, given the cooler weather, Taichi decided he’d prepare sukiyaki, or hot pot beef and veggies. However, Koushirou wasn’t there at his usual time, which was just after 5 PM. Taichi makes his way to the office quickly, worry building as he opens the door to reveal... Kou, just sleeping in their chair.
Taichi lets out an audible sigh and softly prods the genius awake, kissing their forehead as they wake up.
“Rise and shine, beautiful; it’s time for dinner!”
“Mhhh… I haven’t even had breakfast yet though…?”
Taichi just laughs again and kisses them on the lips, handing Koushirou their water to help wake them up. And now, with a groggy Koushirou in tow, it was time to eat together.
Koushirou casually greets Gatomon, who returns the greeting. After interrogating Kou on how they weren’t surprised, he was informed that Hikari texted them last night. With a pout, he accepts the answer, earning him a peck on the cheek and a thank you for the meal. Now shining brightly, he prays with them before they all dig into the food in their own unique ways.
Taichi was voracious and saved his favorites for last; Koushirou was meticulously melding their flavors together, while Tentomon enjoyed playing with his food as Gatomon was unable to hide their enjoyment as they ate, devouring the food happily.
Soon, with dinner finished, the two Digimon go to play, Tentomon leading Gatomon to their server.
Now, with the two lovers alone, Taichi can’t help but cling to his other half. In response, Koushirou laughs and returns the embrace, saying nothing as Taichi explores their waist casually.
“I’ve missed you today.” Taichi breathes out, feeling his scalp being massaged as he’s held closer.
“It was hardly even 12 hours since we last had sex; you can’t be serious." They laugh, shy and flattered at Taichi’s insatiability, saying, “At least survive until we’re in bed, okay?” Koushirou bargains, kissing his bottom jaw before softly splitting off.
“Fiiineee, but instead we’re cuddling on the couch with a blanket on.” Taichi says, the implications clear to the two of them. Quickly they get cozy on the couch and find a good movie, snuggled close and getting very familiar as they watch the film.
Sooner than they’d like, however, the movie ends, and as they slowly untangle from their mess of limbs, Taichi remembers the gift. Quickly standing, he walks over to the drawer and reveals the box, handing it to Koushirou.
“What is this?” They say, beginning to slowly undo the wrapping.
“It’s a gift for all the hard work you do; I bought it using my own money, so it may not be too great, but I hope you still enjoy it.” Taichi says, rocking on his heels as Koushirou goes faster, careful not to make a mess but wanting to quickly see what it is. Soon, all that is left is a brown box.
Slowly, the brown box is opened to reveal a gorgeous gold necklace with a large onyx, a deep purple contrasted with bright white streaks. Koushirou immediately starts to tear up, grinning softly. Taichi immediately holds his partner, massaging their back as they squeeze tightly.
“An onyx… It represents the birth constellation of Leo, right? Which just so happens to be the first month of August…?” They say through sniffles, overwhelmed somewhat as Taichi confirms, congratulating his love for their quick thinking.
“Say, Tai… I suddenly feel a bit tired... Would you like to go to bed…?” Koushirou says, leaning on their love with a deep, meaningful look in their eye, and Taichi doesn’t need to be asked twice, crazy hat addicts be damned.

A different digimon story
Hey Tumbles,
I have ideas for a story in the Digimon Adventure universe, I think it would be cool if we took people from a monster raising world like Pokémon, Monsuno, and some dragon quest monster games (I can't think of many monster tamer games where the people are native to the world where monster raising is the norm).
Main plot ideas I've thought of to an extent could be that our group of 5 to 6 kids is summoned to the digital world before they start raising a starter creature, they are stranded in a forest together when their rookie level partners come lead them to leomon who runs a small settlement where he teaches the kids about prophesied tamers who destroyed millenniummon, but they couldn't go home so they died of old age.
Now their mega partners gaiomon, rusttyranomon, gryphomon, slayerdramon, and lotosmon are grief ridden and in a desperate play they decide to come to the human world to meet their partners again because digimon don't stay dead so therefore they can get their partners if they collide the world's.
Digimon view humans similarly to those from tamers digimon partner with humans for power so the 5 Megas actions caused an army after power who tries to help them and our kids are asked to stop the threat. The only other thought I have is that the 5 Megas will have to be offed because they're to far gone but their eggs live on.
There could be an 02 season with the idea that even though our cast saved the digital world and fixed the rifts one small one was hiding opened in a dark area of the digital world and a human whom was abused learns about how powerful a human trained digimon can be, his partner becomes a digimon to make the world bow to him so now new tamers are summoned again.
I suck at writing so if someone wants to pick my biran or work together on this idea please hit me up, or someone could take a stab at this themselves but please share.

2024 Writing Roundup
tagged by @goodlucktai !
Words Posted:
round abouts 25k! i actually worked on AND published more than i did last year! so that's kind of exciting! 2023 was..... ROUGH buddy! 2024 was kinder 😊💜
Additional Words Written:
*gestures vaguely* at least twice that. probably
Fandoms:
Digimon
Rise of the TMNT
Usagi Yojimbo
Sonic the Hedgehog
Highest kudos + Highest Hit One-Shot:
warmly in the dark taking the W for both!! by like, a LOT lmao not Technically a one-shot but idc
New Things I Tried:
I don't know that i was particularly adventurous this year, at least writing wise. I wrote the same sort of fics for the same sort of characters that i'm always obsessed with lmao Apart from starting (or at least working on) some ambitious (lengthy) projects, I stayed pretty much firmly in my wheel house. But i did spend genuinely most of the year prepping for and then actively moving to a new state so. That's a new thing!
Fic I Spent The Most Time On:
GOD the fic i spent THE MOST TIME ON was that. Goddamn. Leosagi fic…. that still isn't done. When I started splitting it into multiple docs and then into multiple folders to even keep the timeline straight, when I started actively feeling like this guy
Tumblr media
any time i worked on it - i set it down lmao. Girl it's not that deep. You are thinking too hard abt all of this. It is a silly self indulgent fanfic you are writing FOR FUN it do not need to be so goddamn pedantic. Sometimes u just gotta let stuff cook a lil longer in your brain before u try and get 'em out and that's fine
Fic I Spent The Least Time On:
meager and infinite, bro the way i sat down and wrote that straight out in like an hour. actually insane to me lmao I'm surprised that i managed to do that with a couple of fics this year, where when i actually had the TIME to just sit and write, i cruised 'em out in just a couple of days! So that's been nice! 💜
Favourite Thing I Wrote:
Soft spot in my heart for pop. I got really nostalgic abt digimon (like I do every 5-10 years lmao) and there was actually a lot of new stuff that came out right around the time my brother and I rewatched it (or stuff had already come out that we got to catch up on)! I feel like Tai got waaayyyy to much attention in Adventure 2020 but damn if he don't live in my mind rent free. my fav guy.
Favourite Thing(s) I Read:
I have so many ao3 subscription emails that i haven't even opened 💀
I know i read You should TOTALLY kill that guy, my liege by waywardwitchcat at least five times bc it's so funny and insane i'm for real obsessed w it aslkdjaslk it just GIVES! it gives Everything so casually, the comfort kinkfic of all time lmao
also (not fanfic related but) I listened to the audiobook for This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone and oh my god Oh my GODDDD if you haven't read it, do it; if you can listen to the audiobook, specifically, DO IT.
Writing Goals for 2025:
Think I wanna try and hit at least 200/400 words a day. I want to buckle down on FINISHING STUFF, and i want to actively try to set aside Actual Time to Write.
New Works:
Pop sequel, project Aster, the "apparently witches hold grudges" series, and oh my GOD the Mariko fic I wrote 5k for and then FORGOT EXISTED until i was just now browsing through my folders 💀💀💀 the brain fog is REAL. anyway, those are where im gonna be putting the brunt of my efforts unless something hits me sideways!
Tagging: @plothooksinc @radishhqueen @sroloc--elbisivni @crows-murder if yall wanna 💜

how do u even start getting into Digimon?? there so much stuff, i dont even know where to begin. like, there is like a hundred shows??? do i start with the first one that came out??
Idk man it just happened??
No, but seriously, don't worry about it! There aren't even that many shows if you ask me. I'll put a list below the cut! I'll list all movies too, so it'll look like more than it really is. Also the dates are the japanese air dates.
Obviously starting with the first season, Digimon Adventure is an easy pick, it also has the most sequels and movies.
But aside from the Adventure related media, all other Digimon Seasons are completely self-contained, and you can just go and watch any! They also all explore "Digimon" and the Digital World in different ways. I personally loved them all.
For the anime I also highly recommend watching the Japanese original. I'm sorry for anyone who grew up with it, but I can barely stand watching the English Dub at all. If you know German though, the German Dub is really good. I still prefer the Japanese original, but the German Dub is at least a translation and not a fan fiction.
The same basically goes for the games. You can just pick any of them up! Also, all Digimon games kind of do their own thing in terms of gameplay and mechanics. There's similarities too, but usually each have their own vibe. A lot of the DS titles do work very similar though!
Anime:
Adventure: Digimon Adventure (Movie) (1999) • Digimon Adventure (Season 1) (1999-2000) Digimon Adventure: Our War Game (Movie) (2000) • Digimon Adventure 02 (Season 2) (2000-2001) Digimon Adventure 02: Hurricane Touchdown!! Supreme Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals (Movie) (2000) Digimon Adventure 02: Diaboromon Strikes Back (Movie) (2001) • Digimon Adventure tri. (6 Movies or 24 Episodes) (2015-2018) Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna (Movie) (2020) Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning (Movie) (2023) [Digimon Adventure: (Reboot) (2020)]
Tamers: • Digimon Tamers (Season 3) (2001-2002) Digimon Tamers: The Adventures' Battle (Movie) (2001) Digimon Tamers: The Runaway Digimon Express (Movie) (2002)
Frontier: • Digimon Frontier (Season 4) (2002-2003) Digimon Frontier: Revival of the Ancient Digimon (Movie) (2002)
Savers/Data Squad: • Digimon Savers / Data Squad (Season 5) (2006-2007) Digimon Savers The Movie: Ultimate Power! Activate Burst Mode!! (Movie) (2006)
Xros Wars/Fusion: • Digimon Xros Wars / Fusion (2010-2012)
Appmon: • Digimon Universe Appli Monsters (2016-2017)
Ghost Game: • Digimon Ghost Game (2021-2023)

Digimon Adventure Reboot Sequel AU - Chapter 0: Weird
Tumblr media
Summary: Despite his best efforts, Mimi, Sora and Koushirou have, indeed, noticed that Taichi has been acting rather off recently. Unwilling to accept his weirdness as the status quo, they meet up to discuss how to handle it...
Chapter list: [Prologue] [0] [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
Resources: [Concept] [Designs] [First Idea] [Playlist] [Ao3]
Word Count: 885
„No matter how you look at it – Taichi-san has been acting weird lately!”
Mimi’s voiced oozed with frustration, as she flopped back down on her personal chair in their “hideout” with emphasis. As Palmon blinked at her, she gracefully flipped her hair over her shoulder, grabbed the cup of lavender tea in front of her and took a small sip, letting her statement sit for a moment.
A moment Koushirou and Sora used to exchange a worried look. Mimi may have been the one to order them all to gather due to “an emergency!” – which, as it turned out, was “Taichi-san being weird” –, but if they were being honest… They had noticed it too.
“I think I’m aware of what you’re referring to”, Koushirou agreed after a while. “My personal verdict is that he hasn’t gotten a lot of sleep, since he’s been spacing out frequently. But whenever I try to address it towards him, he says everything is fine.”
“As he usually does, but I think it’s all deflection”, Sora added, leaning against the computer table while Koushirou went back to trying to fix the blue screen Mimi had caused by accidentally ripping out a cable during her heated rambles from earlier. “He’s just… Smiling it away and, I mean, that’s always been him, but…”
“It’s like he’s hiding something”, Koushirou concluded without looking up from the screen.
“I know, right?!” Mimi put down her tea cup with a clinking sound, causing Piyomon and Tentomon to make inquisitive noises as well.
“And really, it’s not just that, it also feels like he’s forgetting things or getting them mixed up”, elaborating, Sora fumbled at the hem of her college jacket. “Last time I asked him if he wanted to have an extra training session, he just looked at me like a deer in headlights and asked if I wasn’t already meeting with Yamato… Who’s in Shimane. I have no idea where that came from all of the sudden. It’s hard enough to get the group together these days and I didn’t understand why he was so confused about me not traveling to Shimane in the middle of a school week.”
It really had been a chore to “keep the whole gang together” these days. While Yamato and Takeru had always been living in Shimane and, outside of Summer and Winter breaks, only joined them on their digital adventures in the net through a port in their area – usually it were only Taichi, Koushirou, Sora and Mimi that ended up gathering physically at their meeting points, namely the club house Mimi’s grandfather had sponsored a few years ago. With Hikari going to a different middle school and Jyou thoroughly focusing on his management career, their group of eight really was somewhat decimated.
“Super weird…”, Mimi pouted and Koushirou actually lifted his gaze this time.
“Speaking of which, he was asking me if I had talked to Jyou-san about college entrance exams for medical school…”
“He did what?!”, Mimi screeched. “Where’s that coming from?! Jyou-senpai has been so determined to take an internship at our company, grandpa would be devastated if he had suddenly changed his mind – and I would know, Jyou-senpai hasn’t shut up about it, I can show you our texting history, it’s-“
“That’s what I mean by him getting things mixed up”, Sora tried to intervene, smiling at Mimi serenely, so she immediately calmed down a little. “Even though these things really come out of nowhere…”
“Well, maybe high school is getting to his head?”
“His grades seemed to be fine overall though, even if… He’s never been the most studious”, Koushirou thought out loud. “Perhaps we could ask Hikari-san about it?”
“It didn’t seem like they had problems at home either.” Once Sora had said these words, the room got quiet. An aura of worry and confusion that was only disrupted by Mimi sipping on her tea again – more nervously than before as well. They had all known Taichi for several years by now, he had always been their beacon of confidence, a leader to look up to in every situation, positive and unshakable, especially during their gate hopping shenanigans. Seeing him so scatterbrained really was a novelty for all of them.
“There’s another possibility…”, Koushirou eventually broke through the silence with a low voice, drawing all attention towards himself.
“And what would that be?”, Tentomon asked curiously, flying over his head.
“Well… There is at least a tiny chance it’s caused by a Digimon he encountered the last time we went into the network.”
“So what, you believe there is a virus in the net messing with his head? Like… Giving him a cold that made him forget things or something like that?”
Hearing how peculiar it sounded by Mimi’s skeptical tone, Koushirou wasn’t so confident in his theory anymore.
“We will have to test it first of course. By talking to him once more and scouting the network for irregularities.”
“Well then, what are we waiting for?” With that, Sora pushed herself onto her feet again. “You’ll keep investigating on the digital side of things, Koushirou-kun, and we’ll, once again, try to get something out of him in person.”
“Spoken like a true lioness, Sora-san!”, Mimi cheered happily and raised her fist encouragingly. “Let’s solve this mystery once and for all!”

Digimon Girls Festival (Image Songs)
It's been awhile since I've done a post about "audio-only" Digimon media. Digimon has so many of these!! If you're curious this site seems like a good place to see all the info about the albums out there. Digimon-Basic is where you're going to want to go if you want to download the albums, but most of them are on YouTube too. I gotta say, this fandom is nothing if not super well documented! I'm impressed.
Loving the cover art for this (why do they all look like they're going to different parties though?) As you can see, this is a collection of image songs for all of the girls from Adventure, 02, and Tamers. No Frontier, unfortunately :'( With most anime, characters get 1-2 image songs, with Digimon they get like 5 for some reason (spread across different albums).
Image Songs
Ruki Makino - My Style (Listen here subbed)
A very fitting song for Ruki in terms of the edgy rock n roll style and her singing about wanting to stay true to herself. I found her singing about wanting wings to be pretty random though. I feel like they just stick that in anime songs cuz it sounds cool lol (I think one or two of the other image songs talked about wanting wings).
Favorite line was "I don't want to imitate anyone, I want to be me." I feel like what Ruki is struggling with is that she does care what people think of her a lot (hence her angsty facade) but really wants to break free of that and be her true self.
The lyrics were kinda poorly translated grammatically, but I've tried to translate Japanese song lyrics before...it's super hard. I feel like some things just end up sounding dumb in English and it might be better to go the localization route instead of direct translation (if this were an official thing).
Miyako Inoue - Yamato Nadeshiko Panic (Listen here subbed)
Damn, it's a good thing I know what a yamato nadeshiko is or else this song would seem pretty weird. The subber decided to translate yamato nadeshiko as "japanese woman" which...sort of makes sense but it leaves out so much context. To be fair...it's a tricky one (as I said in the previous bullet, translaton is hard!)
Anyways, this song wasn't super interesting. It was basically Miyako singing about how she wants to be an elegant, "ideal" woman. Low key trad wife vibes lol Nothing wrong with wanting to be a good wife/partner, it's just not something I relate to 😅
I feel like I never fully got a grasp on Miyako's character. The only thing I remember is that she was a fangirl and kinda boy crazy. There was an episode about how she's really outspoken I think?
Sora Takenouchi - Sky-Blue Wind (Listen here subbed)
It seems like a lot of these songs are about not being honest with yourself. It's all very Japanese lol. Sora is singing about putting on a brave face for the sake of her friends. I guess that's fitting since we did see her run away when she was upset in the anime.
She sings that she "likes her role" as the optimistic one...reminds me of Ted Lasso and Waymond from Everything Everywhere All At Once. I can't tell if this kind of outlook is admirable or deeply unhealthy.
Shaochung Lee - My Future (Listen here subbed)
This one was disappointing because I liked Shaochung. It was a super unimaginative song about Shaochung wanting to grow up. Like...I guess that makes sense, but it's a very obvious and lazy choice (with her being the youngest). Maybe she could have sung about her relationship with her brother or Lopmon/Terriermon?
I did think the "I can't see the after-10pm world" line was pretty cute/clever
Hikari Yagami - Reflection (Listen here subbed)
According to fandom wikis, this is a response to the Takeru song Focus which I wrote about here. I still feel weird about these two songs. Why would they depict Takeru and Hikari as a couple when that wasn't in the source material (imo)? I don't remember the 02 epilogue saying anything about them being together! Maybe the image songs aren't canon lol
There's something funny about Hikari calling Takeru's eyes beautiful when I just picture them as generic anime eyes. I guess blue eyes would be something to sing about in Japan. (I actually think Hikari's light brown eyes are prettier).
Juri Katou - The Color of Someday (Listen here subbed)
Sheeesh this one was dark (I mean...to be expected). It sounded to me like Juri was singing about being depressed and anxious, unsure how to live a "normal" life. The color in the title refers to that "normal" future that she wants to achieve.
A lot of the song seemed to be about masking and being afraid to show any vulnerabilities to the world. She also says she doesn't understand what love is or how to love (probably cuz of her crappy parents).
Looking back on it, I kinda wish they had foreshadowed Juri's darker side better in Tamers. She started out as such a goofy, comic relief character that her breakdown felt less real to me (also, I cared less because my brain had already categorized her as "generic background comic relief girl."). If they had shown a tiny hint of a crack in her facade sooner, it probably would have made her more interesting.
Good morning/Goodnight Calls
(These should be easy to find, they're in the same playlist as the videos above)
I don't really know what the point of these are, going to be honest. The album contains random voice lines (around 20 seconds each) of the girls saying good morning and goodnight. It reminds me of those Vtuber voice packs. Personally, I'm a big fan of Japanese oddities like this, but they seem very niche.
I thought the appeal would be to pretend that the characters are talking to me, but in the first voice clip Ruki is addressing her grandma...guess I could pretend to be her grandma lmao
Okay, Sora's wake up/goodnight call literally sounds like waifu bait (very breathy)...which is strange considering she's an elementary schooler. Who was this made for?
Some of these would make decent alarm sounds, if you're into that sorta thing. I think it would get very annoying very fast to have an anime girl yelling at me first thing haha
Sora and Miyako's were so vague and general that they could have been from any series. No mention of digimon or anything like that.
Why is Mimi showing up now but didn't get an image song? Wasn't she the singer of the group!? (Her voice lines were very shrill, my ears are bleeding lol)
Hearing cheerful!Juri after listening to her song feels...uncomfortable
I wonder if these were just improv'd on the spot. I want more backstory.
