Digimon Adventure Reboot Sequel AU - Prologue: Dreams

Summary: It's been years since the Chosen Children have saved both the Digital World and the Real World back in 2020. Things are mostly peaceful... Or so Taichi keeps telling himself, as he has been haunted by dreams for years - dreams about adventures he hasn't lived through himself, everything is familiar yet a little bit weird. They're becoming more and more vivid as time goes by, messing with his head, his perception, his memories - and he's not sure how long he can continue to be his most courageous self without anyone else noticing the cracks.

When the dreams had first begun, Taichi hadn’t given it much thought.

"I haven't given up.”

Dreaming about adventures in the Digital World – considering how often he had gone gate-hopping alongside various of his friends for years now, ever since they had saved the place for the first time –, shouldn’t be surprising.

“You guys taught me that there's always something I can do until the end.”

He hadn’t even wondered about how different the Digital World had looked – things were often a little to the left within dreams, they weren’t exactly how one experienced them in real life after all. Places, people, clothes, devices… Nothing too worrisome.

For the first weeks, months, there wasn’t even a need for him to question the frequency of his dreams – since, at first, he quickly forgot about them shortly after waking up anyway. But then, slowly, but steadily, things had started to become more vivid.

“The future will continue and become connected.”

He began hearing the voices more clearly, recognizing most of them immediately – like a long forgotten yet familiar memory, seeping into his waking hours and sneaking back into his head. Which, again, didn’t happen all the time and also not consistently, but when he met up with his friends, asking Sora, Koushirou and the others for another trip into the net, he occasionally felt reminded again.

Of islands, trolleys, mountains. Of black gears, tags, cards. Of monkeys, vampires and clowns. Sometimes, he woke up feeling like someone had punched him in the face, other times, tears were streaming down his cheeks.

“I'll pass it on to you. Our... Our grown up... Hope.”

Still, he had decided to keep it all to himself – not matter how much he had been bothered by a slight sting of guilt in his chest whenever his glance had crossed Hikari’s, first thing in the morning. There had been no urgency to act. Years had passed and, aside from a few minor calls, their duty as Chosen Children had been “on hold” for the most part, so most of the travels to the Digital World had happened on their own devices. But whenever he entered the void, with Agumon right next to him, the voices, the images of his friends had become more detailed.

Nevertheless, he had gone through the entirety of middle school without telling a soul. About other voices he had never heard before, dark towers, digital eggs. How the person he saw himself as in his dreams seemed so strange yet so much like home that it scared him sometimes. He had brushed it aside every single time.

But now, in his second year of high school, they had almost turned into aggressive visions.

“Listen, Yagami.”

Last night, his dream had revolved around someone he had seen several times before – but only in his dreams. He appeared to be a teacher, his teacher to be exact. Sitting on the floor of some sort of control room, covered in blood, talking to him. Taichi himself had been stuck in a capsule, a countdown clock right next to him. Time was running out.

“No matter how hard reality is up ahead, don't ever give up.”

He had been about to die. And there was nothing he could have done. He remembered how his dream self had tried to smash the capsule into pieces, getting through to him. But it was all in vain. Regardless of how much he had wanted to scream, he couldn’t move.

“You guys go build the future.”

Even though he had never seen that man in real life, he had felt a connection. Felt like he owed him to get him out of that place this time. As if to make up for what he couldn’t have done before.

“Dream big!"

And yet, it had been all for naught. Once again, he had woken up in tears. Had checked whether there had been blood anywhere on his body, as it had felt almost frighteningly real. Not only that, his mouth felt awfully dry, as if he had screamed the word “Sensei!” out loud himself.

Heart pounding, sweating, Taichi couldn't help but wonder how long he could still keep quiet. Under no circumstances would he worry any of his friends about this – that he had sworn to himself. He was the bearer of the Crest of Courage, he had always, always found a way to push through, smile in the face of adversity. The others relied on him for that. The voices kept telling him that this was part of his duty – be courageous for the sake of everyone. More courageous than the self he saw in his dreams at least – who seemed to fall deeper into despair with every passing dream.

Taichi didn’t understand why there was such a discrepancy – as he had finally begun to ask questions. He felt sympathy for his dream self, a sense of remorse circling around all of his actions, as if there were a million things he regretted and wanted to make right. Watching himself like that only left him with the urge to… Give himself a hug. And ask him why he pushed his friends away like that, why he was so at odds with Yamato, so distanced from Sora, Koushirou and even Hikari…

He wouldn’t let that happen to himself. He would push further. Without worrying anyone about it.

He had to after all.

Digimon Adventure: Ep 19!

Wow! That certainly was an Episode!! It was pretty fun from start to finish, though nothing mind-blowing, but it was definitely the ending that made me gasp. Not wholly unexpected to an old turnip like me, but promising lots of fun (and angst!).

ok I’m really looking forward to recapping this one so let’s get to it!

So last week I thought the kids sans Taichi and Yamato were abducted by Devimon, but apparently that either isn’t the case, or it was, but then Devimon decided it’s best just to dump the kids back on Earth and hold on to their partners. Because that’s the current situation. While concerning that the kids are separated from their partners, it’s probably best this way, since Devimon appears to be sending Gesomon(?) and Parrotmon(?)

to the human world, if I remember right. It’s hard to remember what happened in the first fifteen seconds kay So when the kids find their partners it will probably be in the human world and they can fight back.

Meanwhile Taichi and Yamato are alone and very Confuse

Taichi tries frantically to contact Koushirou. The others too... but especially Koushirou.

Finally he gets him!! He’s so happy!! My Taishiro heart flutters!

But I was fully expecting it to be a trap. When I saw this still here, my first thought was “Devimon’s forcing him to tell Taichi a lie by threatening him with a gun!!”

of course thats not whats happening. Koushirou is relatively fine and there are no guns (yet). What’s happened is the other kids have been sent back to the human world for reals this time!

This show is not even bothering to hide its Taiyama angle.

They spend the entire episode giving each other Significant Looks like this. The entire episode.

Now where’s Jou through all of this, you ask?

He went to talk to the police. He’s shocked they don’t believe his story about monster attacks and the world ending (well, at least Tokyo ending). I freaking love how taaaaall Jou is. Though it makes Koushirou look like a bean x’D

Jou = beansprout / Koushirou = bean

Koushirou has a much easier time dealing with the news that the police don’t believe them. He’s a denizen of the Internet. He knows how people’s minds work. And he has tons of chat logs to prove it.

People are chatting and spreading gossip and disbelief and complaints, but my favorite is the comment that just says “It’s a flood of fake news” xP

The home team runs into Mama Yagami! Who Sora literally calls Mama Yagami! x’D I mean I know that’s how kids generally refer to their friends’ parents but I still lol’d.

So un... Jou is almost as tall as Mama Yagami. LMAO. I’m gonna assume she’s short. Jou might indeed be quite tall for his age but Sora and Mimi are pretty close to Mama Yagami’s height too. I guess we haven’t seen Taichi standing next to his mom yet! With his hair he’s probably taller than her.

So Mama Yagami is HILARIOUS and I’m so glad that’s a continuing thing in the reboot! She was already that way in 99 Adventure, but we’re just seeing a lot of it now - like every time she’s around. (And we didn’t see it in Tri so I missed that.) Basically she seems like a basketcase. Not a totally irresponsible one, more like just... generally the carefree go with the flow type. Which is not bad. She just also seems a bit, uh, ditzy?? I think Taichi probably grew to be so serious by necessity. Dad’s busy with work and someone’s gotta make sure mom doesn’t leave the house without her keys!

The way Sora just stares at Hikari like “explain??” after Mama Yagami thrusts Miko at her and runs off to get her car with a big smile as if they hadn’t all nearly died recently... bahahaha.

also I love how she doesn’t even bother asking her son’s good friend if she knows where he is after not seeing or hearing from him for three full days

Taichi and Yamato determine their priority is find the Holy Digimon. I wish they were a little more concerned with what happened to their friends’ partners, but I guess this is the only goal with solid clues. Anyway before they can do anything they are attacked by Bulbmon Looks like subtitlers went with Valvemon which also works, who looks like a Lego monster creation by an eight year old (and probably is).

He has the Domo face. Grrraaah

Domo is NHK mascot by the way. bahahaha

Next these guys come swarming out of Valvemon. (And if we didn’t already get it, apparently Digimon can construct other Digimon as we’ve seen before.) Nothing is quite as freaky as gas masks. They are commanded by Minotaurmon/Mintaromon whatever.

They too have the aim of Stormtroopers though so our heroes will be fine...

... probably...

... then Leomon finally shows up!! Yay! He looks good! All beefy and scarred and sounding exactly like Zaraki Kenpachi. Uhh. Is it the same VA?? Nothing comes up in the Google search so maybe not but it sure sounds like him. (Minotaurmon and Ogremon also sound like Leomon... while it’s normal for VAs in kids shows to voice multiple characters esp minor ones, it literally sounds like Zaraki Kenpachi is the voice of all the characters in this episode besides the main ones. And Mama Yagami of course because that would be weird.)

Leomon may look cool, but his ride... and his friends... uh, less cool x’D I want to strangle that ostrich thing with its own scarf somehow it inspires violent emotion in me

In the smallest, most shocked voice, Yamato says, “Leomon...?” It’s honestly kind of adorable. He’s clearly remembering what Neemon said about Leomon leading the resistance way back when.

Leomon helps them escape. Taichi very considerately and cutely helps Agumon aboard the fashion disaster ostrich emu thing.

Yamato also considerately helps his partner but rather less cutely xD

Leomon takes them to his hideout and gives them your standard fare of weird-looking Digi fruit. He then proceeds to tell them about Devimon and that he is trying to infiltrate Valvemon yadda yadda.

Taichi is freaking ADORABLE, immediately concerned that by saving their asses, Leomon’s battle plans have been ruined. Leomon waves that aside though. Yamato is equally adorabibble when he asks after Neemon and gets told that they made it to Leomon safely.

Leomon plans to try to get into Valvemon again because he knows Devimon’s put something related to the holy Digimon in there. Taichi is determined to join in. He doesn’t have much of an argument as it why they should be allowed when they just got their butts kicked so easily, but he has a trick up his sleeve: the Burning Eyes of Fiery Passion.

Not to be outdone, Yamato shoots off his Icy Eyes of Cold Determination.

Faced with this twin assault, Leomon has to give in. Ahh, I remember last week when we saw the trailer for this ep and I naively thought Leomon would train them like Piximon did in 99 Adventure. Nope. They’ve just met and they’re already spy buddies.

Okay, okay, yeah Leomon does seem to have some knowledge of the “Chosen Children” and that’s his real motivation. Still.

They break into Valvemon and we get the excellent invention of Agumon riding on Garurumon. I assume because of Garurumon’s advantageous speed. That seems to be recurring thing in this show.

They enter some sort of central space where Leomon tells them something relevant to the holy Digimon is being kept. (Lol I already forgot the details of what he said.) There are two protectors, Minotaurmon and Bullmon. Leomon tells the kids to take Bullmon while he faces down Minotaurmon. These guys might have been somewhat intimidating if we hadn’t already got Perfect level evolutions mastered, not to mention the occasional Jogress :P Sooo I didn’t feel too worried.

... uh, never mind x’D Taichi what are you doing

Yamato saves his idiot butt and almost gets in a bind himself. Once again I’m just wondering why they are sticking at Adult level. Whatever. They win of course

Leomon uses his Fist of the Beast King to maim Minotaurmon. His brilliant one-liner? “I have more than one first.”

Bully: *punches you*

You: ow

Bully: *smirk* I have more than one fist.

You: That’s funny, I only have one, but it’s made of titanium *You punch the bully straight through the stratosphere* Quality over quantity!!!!

*cough*

Our heroes approach the secret compartment supposedly holding something to do with the holy Digimon... Yamato gets a look inside and gets the black shadow of true terror over his eyes

becaue floating inside like some kind of Weapon X experiment is... Takeru!!!

Hold on while I put in my ear plugs. Okay, ready, screech all you want now.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

So... okay. First of all, baby Takeru is sooooooo cute <3 I had two predictions about what happened to Takeru last week. Either he ended up in the digital world and was now on his own, or he got abducted by Devimon. I thought the former was more likely, but in hindsight, it should have been obvious that it was the second. This show misses a lot of points where I feel like they could have developed some relationships or thrown in some drama, but it never passes up a chance for Yamato angst.

So yeah, this is pretty much gonna destroy Yamato xD Not only is the baby brother he wanted to protect no longer at home where he can easily protect him, he’s now in the digital world and in the enemy’s clutches.

I BETTER SEE REALLY TRAUMATIZED YAMATO NEXT WEEK. Of course, I expect him to be cool-headed enough to try to save Takeru, but I will be very disappoint if this goes off with no break downs at all. Takeru is always Yamato’s number one priority!

So I give this ep 7.5/10. The .5 is pretty much for ending with a killer cliffhanger. My one real complaint about this ep is how highly plot-based everything is - we finally got the team all together only to split them up, and on top of that, once split up, we don’t even get all that many character moments between Taichi and Yamato. As I said, they give each other lots of Signifcant Looks, but man cannot live on bread alone. However this is par for the course for this show and I know I should stop mentioning it every week because I doubt it’s changing. We will get the big shockers when we get them and not a moment before.

I just want Yamato to cry in front of Taichi and make him all uncomfortable x’D That’s what made 99 Adventure so great bahahaha

Surprise surprise, Angemon is the holy Digimon! Or one of, anyway. And he is indeed trapped. This makes the “Angemon is Devimon” theory less likely. Let’s not forget that our heroes’ Digimon partners were evidently a band of powerful warriors in the past, but they’ve forgotten much of it. I won’t be surprised if the result of that war played a part in Angemon’s abduction.

Next week they’ll have to fight to save Takeru from being drained, I guess.

And then!! Digi egg! Excite. Also I only just noticed that his hate says TK!!!

1) Takari Week Day 7: Comfort OR Healing/Taking Care Of

Takari Week was the first Tumblr Week event that I got to be a part of and it was SO MUCH FUN!! I loved all of my responses but this one is my favorite; I’m partial to angst.

2) Knives Out Headcanon

This was another first. Do you guys ever watch something and think ‘imagine the Digidestined in *this* setting’? That happens a lot with me.. and I thought putting them in this movie’s universe was so “out there” but I love those kinds of ideas ;) 

3) "I’m never buying IKEA furniture again” (Koukari)

You know how you write a fic and you stop writing at the fluffy part because it was too cute to handle? Yeah, that’s what happened here. And it was amazing to see others feel the same way. XD <3

4) The Princess and the Dragon (Taiora, AU)

THERE WAS SO MUCH TAIORA (surprise, surprise) but I only wanted to choose one work. It was hard ranking my Taiora stuff personally LOL. But I’m going with this one because this one had hints of romance but was more about family love - Yagami siblings and of course, Papa Taichi and his baby girl <3

5) Effervescent Fires (Howl’s Moving Castle)

I hope to write more of this! I’ve been working on a fic about Calcifer. The idea of writing the story through the eyes of a cursed star/exasperated flame being is so fascinating to me. I can’t find the link to where I originally posted my excerpt (it was a few months ago but buried in the depths of Reddit, so I’m just going to post it under a cut. :D

The boy seemed to know this star's fate as he reached his arms up, holding out his palms for it to land. The star could tell as he settled with his gentle sparks leaving the boy's hands unharmed that this boy was no ordinary boy; this boy knew magic, and he could help him live.

The star could also tell that this boy wanted something in return. A contract? The star did not truly understand, but if it meant that he could avoid his fate for much longer, then he was willing to accept.

And so, with the boy’s inhale, the star was devoured and was met with darkness. It was a different kind of a falling, from all of the bright colors to none at all, until he stopped moving. After a moment’s pause, he felt a beat. A slow, steady tempo within him while his flames lit up in a soft blue.

The blue turned into bright orange as he flowed back out into the world and onto the boy’s palms once again. He was no longer a star on his way to the end; he was now a vivacious fire demon, entwined with the boy by the manner of his heart.

No words were spoken between them, but the fire gathered their introduction by contact.

The boy's name was Howl.

And his name: Calcifer.

Uhhhhhh. Your “Confessions” fic. I am in love. So good. Your writing of them was so spot on. It actually made me ache and just. Thank you. It was a lovely read for tonight. Now, I just want more Taichi x Yamato though, hahaha. Maybe some Hikari x Taichi angst too (cause you incorporated that in your story beautifully too) but it’s so hard to find anything now— I’m sad, lol. But thank you so much for writing Confessions- I really enjoyed it.

Taiora week 2021 Day 3 - Celebration

A/N: Okay, so this one-shot needs a bit of explanation. This one-shot is part of my 'About-universe' and will eventually be posted in 'About all the moments in between' on Fanfiction.net. In this Taiora centered series, and also outside of that, I headcanon Taichi and Sora having three kids. At first, I headcanoned them having three girls, but after a 'flip the coin' moment in the Taiora Discord Server, I ended up making their third born child a boy. However... who says that a born male feels like a male himself? Or herself? Or even themself...?

Enough said. All the way down at the bottom of the story, you will find some more explanation about the choices for the OC Taiora children's names.

The reveal

With his hands in his pockets he wandered through the streets. He looked up to the clear sky where the sun was high, its beams reaching a place he would never touch, Tatsuki believed. The buildings he walked in between stood tall, compared to the sun reaching a point he could reach, though what would he achieve by reaching that high? Because once up, the only place was going back down again, the only option the speed at which one could descend.

Walking down would slow down the journey back to the bottom, making it more painful to go through. Falling down would be the fastest, easiest and less painful way, but once down, you could never go up again. Falling down meant the end of a sentence, marked by a point or even an exclamation mark, giving of a statement, while walking down would only give him more and more question marks…

Why was he even thinking like this anyway? Tatsuki shook his head, caught by his own deep and dark thoughts. He sighed, then continued his way home, hands still numbed, hidden in the pockets of his hoodie. His eyes carried tears he was unable to cry, feeling no room to do so, because he was a man now and men didn’t cry.

Today he had turned 18 and although that was a happy thing, Tatsuki hadn’t felt happy at all. Happiness was a thing long gone for him as he was uncomfortable in his own body and uncomfortable with his own depressing thoughts as he had no idea where he belonged or who he was. Or rather what he wanted to be to himself and to the world.

He cursed his school that had never stood up against the bullies that told him to make a choice. He cursed society for always separating men and women. He cursed his two older sisters who were so incredibly gorgeous, he wanted nothing less but to be like them. And he cursed his parents for giving him their damn genes, feeling as if he had inherited all of their bad ones. Unlike his father once was, he wasn’t the leader, he had nothing of that fierceness his mother embodied, instead he had inherited the constant doubt of his father, the self-effacing from his mother and the overprotectiveness and self-sacrificing traits from the both of them.

It had scarred him. In multiple ways.

For some reason, he had hoped turning 18 would make him feel less attached to them, happier and wiser, but when the clock had struck twelve at midnight last night and he clinked glasses with the few friends he had, Tatsuki had felt nothing. Exactly nothing. He had laughed it away though, making everyone believe he was ready to follow through with his name by 'achieving brightness', but he knew he never would.

Suddenly he stopped in his tracks, noticing he had arrived at the apartment building where he lived. He looked up to where his floor was, then inhaled deep as he stepped into the building. After all of his thoughts during his walk home, he decided to take the stairs to the 8th floor, bringing him up in the slowest way possible, delaying his arrival home. However, it was a thing inevitable and before he knew it, his feet pointed in the direction of the front door, his eyes falling on the sign with their names.

Taichi & Sora Yagami-Takenouchi Yua, Akiko & Tatsuki*

Wanting to get it over with and skipping the fumbling with his keys in his pocket, he directly reached with his key for the keyhole, turning it and opening the door. Of course he was met with the smell of flowers and food mixed telling him his grandmothers had both been here already. Tatsuki rolled his eyes, but was surprised no one had yet tackled him down at the door.

“Hey, I’m home,” he suspiciously said as he closed the door and threw off his shoes. His suspicion only rose more with no one answering him, though he knew there were enough people here looking at the amount of shoes in the rack and listening to the whispering voices coming from the end of the hallway.

Trudging, Tatsuki made his way to the living area where he was blinded by a mix of flowers, balloons, flags and confetti among other decorations, all painted in either blue, pink or white. He raised his eyebrows at all of it, opening his mouth to say something, but he was interrupted by a hand on his shoulder.

“I think they went a little too far with this, but it kinda fits, you know.” It was his old man. He turned himself around to look at his father.

“Hi dad.”

“Happy birthday Tatsuki!” His dad exclaimed before he pulled him into an embarrassing hug. He tried to get out if his grip, but his father was still strong for a 56 year old man.

“Taichi, leave him alone.” Came his mother’s voice, his father immediately loosening his embrace so his mother could take over with one of her warm and safe ones. “Happy birthday dear,” she sweetly said as Tatsuki hugged her back. Even though he blamed his parents a lot, he loved them even more.

Unlike school and society, they had looked out for him, cared for him, protected him and above all loved him for who he is and wanted to be. Tatsuki was grateful for the home they had provided him to grow up in.

“There’s the baby!”

“Baby? Shut up, he isn’t a baby anymore! Look at how much he has grown.”

And his parents hadn’t just provided a home to him, but to his two older sisters as well. Akiko, the younger one of the two, always called him ‘the baby’ ever since she was a little girl and she had never stopped doing that. It annoyed Tatsuki at times, but he was able to live with it and ignore it. His oldest sister Yua, who was over seven years older, had always been super protective over him and she was like a grandma always telling him how much he had grown, making him roll his eyes in the exact same way his mother would do.

They annoyed him, his older sisters, but just like he loved his parents, he loved Yua and Akiko too. They had stood up for him at school, they had schemed little plans together to get back on those bullies, they did his makeup when he wanted to and made him feel loved and accepted. He remembered how they both had proudly said he was their little sister when someone had called him a girl.

“Congratulations Tatsuki!” The sisters exclaimed in unison and Tatsuki smiled, finally feeling a hint of happiness seeping through his gloomy days.

“Thanks,” he said while hugging both of them one by one, simultaneously looking around the room to be reminded of all the blue, pink and whiteness. “Although I’m wondering whether I should be the one congratulating one of you?”

His sisters looked at him questioning. His parents didn't give him any kind of other look, the same confusion in their eyes as he had found in his sisters'.

“I mean, it looks more like a baby shower in here. Are you sure you aren’t pregnant, Yua?”

“What?! No!!”

“Or maybe you, Akiko?” Tatsuki wondered out loud.

“Eehw! No, sheesh! I don’t wanna get fat that young,”

“Hey!” His mother responded to Akiko.

“Young lady, are you calling your mother fat? She carried you and your brother and your sister in there, have some respect.” His father chimed in, his mother giving him a supportive pat on the shoulder to make him stop. Tatsuki loved his parents and the way they always had their backs.

“Anyway,” his mother said, trying to switch the conversation. “I can see why you think this is a baby shower Tatsuki, and to be honest, in some way it kinda is…”

He gave his mother a confused look. “Kinda is what,” Tatsuki said out loud skeptically, rudely interrupting his mother, “the celebration of my birth? The person who was born male 18 years ago, but still has no idea what or who he wants to be? How could you celebrate that?! There’s nothing to celebrate!”

The tone in his voice was passionate, changing the mood in the room fast, scaring himself with it as well as scaring all of the others present in the room. Except for his parents. He looked at them and they looked back at him, eyes filled with worry and even understanding, though Tatsuki had no idea how they could possibly understand. How they could possibly still be so patient with him.

The tears that had stung behind his eyes since midnight were now desperate to come out and Tatsuki barely held it any longer. He swallowed hard, hoping no one would notice that he was actually on the verge of tears. That he was at his lowest point, wanting to get to that top of the building only to fall down as hard and fast as possible. And if it wasn’t for the firm grasp on his shoulder from his father, he would have stormed of.

“Tatsuki,” his father spoke, “when you were little, you always told everyone how you wanted your hair to be as long as your sisters' and your mother and I had always found it the most adorable thing about you. You were so sure about what you wanted, so we never told you no, except for that one time maybe... Now, do you remember that one time you asked me to braid your hair for the theater performance you were playing in?” He waited for his son’s response. Tatsuki slowly nodded his head recalling the moment in his thoughts.

“Your father told you no because you were a boy and boys didn’t braid their hair.” The features of his mother’s face softened as she continued his father’s telling, a small chuckle escaping her. “I can still see how you furrowed your brows at him, how you widened your stance and how your face turned into fire because you were so angry someone told you, especially one of us, to be a boy because you were born male. But Tsuki, honey, in our eyes you were never just a boy.”

“Back then we felt so stupid for telling you no, simply because we thought we had to conform to the norms of society. But you never would conform, always the one to carry his, or her, or maybe even their own weight.”

“You were so young, but as we became your parents, we committed to supporting you no matter what and so that’s what we tried to do in the best way possible. It hasn’t always been easy, you weren’t much of a talker most of the time, but we tried our best to make you feel loved and welcome, despite the choices you’d make.”

The pounding of Tatsuki's heart had slowed down into a steady pace as he listened to the calm but steady voices of his parents. He looked at his sisters who were smiling at him with so much compassion that it nearly choked him, nodding their heads to confirm what their parents were trying to tell him.

“And talking about those choices…” his father picked up after where his mother had left. “We all think you can use some encouragement. I believe you already made your decision, but it’s time to let everyone know. So, Sora…”

His father turned his head towards his wife, a big grin on his face, with it showing her his affection towards her, but in some way also his love for his children. A warmth filled Tatsuki’s chest, already replacing the dark thoughts that had consumed him earlier during the night and day.

“Because you turn 18 today and will move to your own place during college soon, we wanted to not only celebrate you moving into young adulthood, but also your true identity. So..." a pause. Tatsuki looked in his parents' eyes, trying to read them, but all he saw was proudness and joy. "Welcome to your own gender reveal party. We kept it open whether you want the reveal balloons filled with pink, blue or white confetti.” His mother winked.

Tatsuki was dumbfounded. His mouth fell open, amazed by all his mother and father had done for him so far. Just like others would think, Tatsuki thought his parents had gone too far with this, but he was also grateful, thinking he was lucky to be born into the most awesome family in the whole wide world.

“Please, say something…?” The awkward question came from his father, but Tatsuki had no answer. The tears that had bothered him that morning, or actually for all those years, finally got room to stream down his face and instead of talking he flew into his mother’s warm embrace.

He felt loved by her. By them. All of them, feeling all of their arms combined in a big family group hug. Maybe that was what had scarred him in the end, not the bad things, but their love and protection. They could drive him up the highest tower, making him look down wondering whether he should just fall, but now he knew he could never choose the fastest way down, always choosing the stairs, descending slowly, safely protected by the love of his family. They would make sure he would achieve any kind of brightness in his life.

They. He let that word run through his mind for a brief moment, liking the sound of it. Tatsuki smiled, finally knowing and able to accept that he would not only turn 18 today.

Today he would turn into they.

* So, as for the names of the Taiora children: - Yua (結愛) means 'tied by love/affection', because Taichi and Sora had always had a super strong connection. See my Taiora week day 1 writing c o n n e c t i o n for that ;'D - Akiko (秋子) means 'Autumn child'. Personally, I love autumn colors on both Taichi and Sora and I like to believe they had a girl born in autumn. Also little nod/wink to @noctisfishing's 'Colors in Autumn'. - Tatsuki (達輝) funnily enough is a gender neutral name! Tatsu means 'achieving' and the kanji I used for ki means 'brightness', so I kind of juggled with those two words in the one-shot above. I'm not entirely sure though whether that ki-kanji really says brightness or even 'ki' at all (I have no idea if the combination of that tatsu-kanji and ki-kanji is a thing, I really did my best to look it up, but it's hard), because Google Translate tells me something different... Also funfact: Sora calls him 'Tsuki' once as a nickname and Tsuki is a girl's name which means moon (written with another kanji of course) and I love the idea of Taichi being the resemblence of a sun while his son/child is like a moon.

@digiweek​​ 2021: Day 3: Music (2000)

Everyone who has watched the English (or German) dub version of “The Digimon Movie” should know this song. And everyone who has even the tiniest soft spot for Taichi’s and Koushirou’s relationship (and has also watched the Taishirou-fied version of “Our War Game”) may associate it with them. Honestly, I always see Koushirou running towards Taichi’s home whenever I hear the lyrics “I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve, I have a history of losing my shirt.” 

So after listening to Barenaked Ladies’ “One Week” for the millionth time, I thought, hey, why not going the easy route and make a little playlist about them on Spotify? It was actually harder than I thought, especially since I’m biased it covers basically all the scenarios throughout all possible (alternate) universes and timelines: From nostalgic to fresh, from friendship to romance, from pining to angst, from fluff to drama, from sappy to flirty, from “us against the world” to “man, I love you way too much, don’t I?”

Speaking of music - as diverse as musical genres can be, you will find just as many layers in a bond between two people as well. Mutual respect and adoration should be the baseline - but what’s a good, solid friendship (or relationship in general) worth if you can’t even have a (healthy) fight? The more comfortable you are with each other, the more vulnerable you’ll become. The more honest you get, the more you might discover less desirable sides about each other. 

But that’s okay.

As silly as “One Week” may be at first glance - it kinda fits them, especially that chorus. Communication is hard, especially if you get older - and teenage hormones won’t make it any easier. Taichi (12) can be a knucklehead, even if he always means well - and as much as Koushirou (11) admires him and has done so since day 1, even his patience will be tested at times. But they made it through tough times together already - so they’ll get through little quarrels as well. That’s what growing up is about after all.

Whenever Izumi Kae saw Taichi – or even both of the Yagami siblings – entering the Izumi residence, that cheeky, crooked grin on his lips, she felt her heart swelling a little. Just a few years back, she wouldn’t have assumed to see so many children coming to her home, spending time, playing with her son. Being his friends.

She adored “Hikari-chan and Sora-chan”, always made sure to give them some homemade sweets whenever they left again. “Taichi-kun”, on the other hand, was a completely different story.

He was a charming young boy, talkative and friendly – and it made her unbelievably happy to see such an outgoing lad having a good time with Koushirou. Her son hadn’t talked that much about their time spent together, neither about what had happened at the football club or about what they had experienced after vanishing to that mysterious other world with “Tento-san” and “Agu-san” – but Kae could still tell that it had brought them closer together.

Even if Koushirou had left the football club at the beginning of the new school year, they had remained close regardless. Talking, theorizing, playing games, talking about things she had never even remotely heard about. It was endearing.

Yet, she couldn’t help but wonder…

Taichi had always taken Koushirou under his wing, making sure he felt included, he enabled and encouraged him – that much she could have gathered. But recently, something had changed. No, it probably already had before the boys returned from their “Adventure”, barely a year ago…

Kae wasn’t able to put her finger on what it was exactly, but so far, she didn’t have any reason to question it either.

Walking past Koushirou’s room, she heard them talking; she didn’t mean to eavesdrop, especially because the music coming from the room muffled all bits of the conversation anyway.

Then, suddenly –

„Taichi-san!“

„What?!“

„You promised you wouldn’t touch my computer ever again!”

“I didn’t even do anything!”

Kae found herself snickering.

Maybe THAT was it.

She couldn’t remember hearing Koushirou raise his voice like this towards anybody she knew. Which was a good sign in her book. He was opening up, showing his true emotions. He was being honest with himself and with Taichi, without hiding behind a mask of politeness anymore and was able to stand up to him. And it was normal for an eleven-year-old-soon-to-be-teenager to bicker and quarrel, wasn’t it?

As much as she enjoyed to see her son visibly admiring and adoring his best friend – while watching said best friend doing the absolute same in return, maybe even more vocally –, she thought it was about time for the “honeymoon phase” to come to an end.

“I’m sorry…”

“It’s okay.”

… Or maybe not?

"Panzermast" is a radio broadcast system used for disaster prevention that looks like megaphones on top of a pole.

The song is well-known since, in many places, (notably Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture; one video also shows it play in Akihabara) it is played over loudspeakers every day at sunset / 5 PM, as it’s also used to play a song called “Yuuyake, Koyake” as a signal for children (+students) to return home before it gets dark.

(I’ve already seen one other J.P.N artist use it specifically for TaiKou; so I have to wonder if they sometimes get the same idea...!)

I already made a previous initial version here, (However, that one contains major implied spoilers for the Fic-verse ending!) This one specifically semi-parodies the opening scene of the series my overall fic-verse is parodying from; [Mekakucity @ctors] (However, again, it is NOT a direct 1:1 parody, Characters will not parody exact!)

ALSO, (Koushiro Voice) it is of my personal opinion that this fan-base should start paying more attention to not only the sceneries (including/especially Tri’s!) but also the wider series lore, specifically, also, at least partly pay attention to not only OG!Adventure + 02 lores but ALSO some of the T.C.G. lores...
