The Canary: Arrow 2x05 Review (League of Assassins)
Yeesh there is a lot of Lance drama in the beginning of Season 2. We finally get the backstory on Sara, but it’s the spectacular Oliver and Laurel scene that has me cackling.
Let's dig in...
Sara Lance
They reshot the whole pilot scene between Oliver and Sara only this time, we see what happens to Sara after the boat sinks and she’s swept out to sea. How this woman did not get hypothermia from only wearing a bra and underwear in the North China Sea is beyond me.
This scene just incenses me. It irks the absolute crap out of me when Sara says, “Laurel is gonna kill me.” Sara says it like she’s borrowing Laurel’s sweater without asking. YOU ARE SLEEPING WITH HER BOYFRIEND. This destroys a relationship. She’s not going to kill you, but she will absolutely cut contact with you, Sara.
I know he’s pre-island Ollie and he’s just the absolute worst, but the smarmy “Your sister will never know” as he climbs on top of Sara is just so disgusting. I cannot fathom why people would ever want Laurel to be with Oliver after what he did. Forgive him, fine. Date him? Absolutely not.
Okay, the rage is dying down. Hopefully this is the last time we have to watch this scene.
Sara is staying at the Queen mansion, which doesn’t see very covert, but with Moira in jail and Thea sleeping at Roy’s all the time it actually is a good place for Sara to crash. Better than a clock tower at least.
Oliver is still trying to convince Sara to let her family know that she’s alive, but she’s not convinced all family members *cough*Laurel*cough* will be happy to see her. Sara asks Oliver if he ever got back together with Laurel after he returned home.
Oliver: We tried. It’s too much.
Sara: Some things are better left in the past.
After The Gambit sinks, Sara is floating on a door similar to Rose in Titanic when she’s picked up by the freighter.
Source: saralances
We’re all going to pretend the canary landing right next to Sara is not the most obvious foreshadowing in the world. For anyone questioning if Arrow is making Sara their OG Canary – there’s your answer. You know - if the suit, wicked fight skills and sonic weapon didn’t answer it for you already.
The color of the Canary is important though. It’s yellow. Not black. Arrow is drawing a clear distinction between the two. This is an origin story. It’s not Green Arrow and Black Canary. It’s The Arrow and The Canary.
Sara is thrown in a cage on the freighter, similar to Oliver’s current predicament, but Dr. Ivo protects her from the crew members. He tells Sara he is going to save the human race and invites her to help, so I can only conclude we’re going with Stockholm syndrome in the flashbacks. A twenty something college kid would have very little to offer a mad scientist.
However, Sara’s reticence to return to her family is not related to whatever happened on the island, but rather who she became and what she did to survive AFTER the island. We’re just about to get some details when a man dressed exactly like Malcolm Merlyn comes crashing through a window. Oliver and Sara fight him, but before we can get any answers the man disappears. This is getting annoying. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN SOMETHING?
Oliver introduces Sara to his team and we get the iconic first meeting between Sara and Felicity.
Source: oliversmoak
Sara does not want Team Arrow to find the assailant however. She knows exactly who he is.
Sara: He’s called Al Ow-al, “The First.” And he’s a member of the League of Assassins.
Oliver has a very strong reaction to this revelation so we can deduce Sara didn’t join the Girl Scouts. The League is, you guessed it, a bunch of assassins who kill and vanish like ghost - previously thought to be an urban legend by Diggle. The League rescued Sara after the island, remade her into an assassin and she swore them her allegiance.
Sara left after she killed a local diplomat in Guyana and his children found his body the next morning. She didn’t want to be a murderer anymore, but now The League is coming after her.
Source: laurelscanary
Felicity’s humor and compassion put Sara at ease after her horrifying confession and this is why I love this character. There’s no judgment from Felicity. She sees Sara for what she is – a person in pain, even if Sara doesn’t see herself that way. Not unlike how Felicity looks at Oliver. And just like Oliver, Sara Lance is SMOAKED.
Source: smoakamell
After Felicity finds Al Ow-al, Sara and Oliver argue about whose fight it is. Sara isn't used to playing with others, but you'd think she'd understand basic strength in numbers. This is the guy who trained Malcolm Merlyn. He stops an arrow with his bare hand while his back was turned!
Al Ow-al: The child of Ra’s Al Ghul awaits your return.
I know who Ra’s Al Ghul is from my Batman days, but in Arrow's world he has a kid. A kid who sent Al Ow-al to collect Sara alive or dead. This is getting complicated. Is there like an employment flow chart we can follow for the League of Assassins?
Oliver: The League of Assassins. Why wouldn’t she tell me what happened to her all those years?
Diggle: Probably the same reason you didn’t tell us what happened to you on the island.
Wow. This is stunning lack of self awareness. Oliver, in case you haven’t noticed, Sara is the girl version of you.
The League has threatened Sara’s family, so Oliver keeps watch over Laurel. Felicity calls Detective Lance to convince him to leave town - while promising Sara to not reveal she's alive.
Source: @noone-seesyou-likeido
Unfortunately, Lance does not listen to Felicity, so Sara decides her secret is not more important than her father’s life. Finally, she is seeing some sense. Diggle, ever the loyal solider, offers to go with as back up, but Sara continues to have this thing about fighting on her own. I guess being an assassin is a solitary job. This does give us one of the best bad ass Sara Lance speeches ever, however.
Sara: Dig, you may be a three tour Special Forces veteran, but I was trained by the people that make the Special Forces look like a kindergarten class. So step aside or get put down.
The reunion between Lance and Sara is all we hoped it could be. It’s not every day your kid comes back from the dead, but Paul Blackthorne does a phenomenal job of moving from shock and disbelief to overwhelming joy.
Source: laurelscanary
Quentin wants answers, but he’s careful not to spook Sara who is still reticent to give details. They go through the nuclear bomb that was set off in their family (the divorce, the alcoholism). Sara apologizes for the damage she caused, but Quentin insists he was to blame, which is more proof he is a really good dad.
He can clearly see his daughter has changed. She speaks Chinese now and is ready to fight to the death with a butter knife. He pieces together Sara is the woman in black; she knows Felicity, The Arrow and is wrapped up in this League that’s after both of them. How this man has not put together Oliver Queen is The Arrow I will never understand.
Quentin: If these assassins, if they hadn't shown up, would you have ever let us know that you were alive?
Sara: No.
Well, at least she’s honest. Sara promises Lance that she never forgot who she was or him despite staying away for so many years.
Source: OILVERSQUEEN
She takes her father to the clock tower which she’s outfitted with booby traps for when the League comes for them both. Sara and Lance hold their own against the assassins, but when The Arrow arrives they achieve the upper hand. Sara has no problem breaking Al Ow-al’s neck, but allows one assassin to live to warn Ra’s Al Ghul.
Sara: Tell Ra’s Al Ghul that my family is off limits. His quarrel is with me.
She is ashamed to show Quentin who she has become – a killer.
Source: sohpiabush
But Quentin feels only pride. How little children understand the depth of a parent’s love. We have already forgiven anything you’ve done or may do the moment you are born.
Quentin: I think you’re a survivor. I think you’re one of the bravest people I’ve ever known. You’re my daughter.
Sara leaves town to lead the League away from her family and Quentin agrees to keep her secret. He will not tell either Laurel or Dinah that Sara is alive because it would get them killed… or something. The logic is not logical, but I don’t really care. They’ll hold the “Laurel finds out Sara is alive” card for May sweeps.
Source: @laurelscanary
This is not the last we will see of Sara Lance. The Canary’s story is just getting started.
Oliver and Diggle
Despite Oliver's spectacularly hypocritical statement about Sara and honesty, there is serious emotional growth this episode. Oliver making this statement about forgiveness a year ago would have been unthinkable. He did not return home with any hope of being forgiven or even welcomed back. I'm going to give the Lance family a shoutout because they had the most to be angry about with Oliver. He asked both Laurel and Quentin for forgiveness and they each have extended olive branches at various time. Hell, Laurel was ready to get back together with him. So, the fact he's able to offer the same hope to Sara is really a full circle moment.
Source: anissagraces
Oliver beginning to believe he is worthy of forgiveness is a direct result of the many hours of therapy with Diggle and Felicity. He is finally starting to really hear them. That's why this moment with Diggle at the end of the episode is truly note worthy.
Source: NUGETAE
Diggle should have this date embroidered on a pillow because it's not often Oliver will admit he was right. But Oliver is not done yet.
Source: COPHINES
He breaks out some Russian vodka and confesses to Diggle he was not always on the island the five years he was gone. Oliver is ready to unburden some of the secrets he works so hard to keep buried.
Source: laurelscanary
Oliver is able to see his own demons reflected in Sara and it finally connects the dots for him. He doesn't have to remain isolated in the world like Sara. Oliver can see Diggle (and Felicity) reaching out to him and he FINALLY reaches back. This is monumental character growth.
Sara: You three are quite the team.
Diggle: We have our moments.
Why Diggle and not Felicity? I think it's easier for Oliver to tell his war stories to another solider. He also doesn't have any fuzzy bunny feelings towards John, which makes things simpler between them. But every time Oliver opens the door to the past, and shares his pain, he is one step closer to the future he truly deserves.
Laurel Lance
Laurel is sitting second chair in Moira Queen’s prosecution, which is actually an INSANE CONFLICT OF INTEREST. Marc Guggenheim, you are a lawyer sir. What is this nonsense?
Never fear! Laurel has used all her pull to get Moira a plea deal - life with the possibility of parole. Understandably the Queen family isn’t thrilled. It’s either life or the death penalty. Laurel even discussing Moira’s case with Oliver is improper ex parte contact. She should be excluded from the case and sanctioned, but this is Arrow and that’s never going to happen.
In the middle of all of this, Oliver continues to ask if Laurel is okay. She is trying to kill your mother, Oliver. I feel how this is impacting Laurel shouldn’t really be your top concern. He is so exhausting around her. Take the hint, my dude. She doesn’t want your help and I’m tired of you two having the same fight episode after episode.
But this episode is not just another round of the same old some old. No, my friends this is a very special episode because it contains one of the best Laurel and Oliver scenes to ever grace our television. Oliver needs to protect Laurel from the League of Assassins, so he takes her out to dinner. Then he walks Laurel back to her apartment (because assassins) but she thinks he’s come up for a very different reason.
And OLIVER REJECTS HER. The way I cackled.
I’m going straight to hell, but I don’t care. This moment is glorious. First of all, Laurel did not have a drink at dinner, so she can’t blame the booze and pills. She just flat out reads the situation wrong. Oliver apologizes for sending a mix signal, but he’s a bit confused. Didn’t they decide they shouldn’t be together out of respect for Tommy? Yes, Oliver. Yes you did. WHAT ABOUT TOMMY, LAUREL?!! This woman did not deserve that man.
Source: ILOVEKCASSIDY
Me:
Oliver promises Laurel he will never leave her and has certainly made every effort to help her, but it is the capacity in which he will stay in her life that is really in question. This moment is HUGE in terms of where Oliver is at emotionally. He is drawing a firm line in the sand. There was a time when Oliver would’ve welcomed Laurel trying to climb him like a tree no matter the circumstance, but not anymore. He clearly states that he cares about Laurel but only as a friend. His concern has no romantic undertone to it.
The balance of power in their relationship has always been tipped toward Laurel. This is the first time it feels like a more even playing field. Instead of Laurel rejecting Oliver – he is rejecting her and for a very good reason. Oliver is not stoned on pills and he remembers they don’t work. They tried to go back and it failed. Oliver has not interest in trying again. For the first time, Oliver is looking forward.
And Laurel, cemented in the past and alone her in apartment, takes some pills.
Stray Thoughts
This secret Moira is keeping is a real humdinger if she’s ok with life with the possibility of parole.
Oliver and Thea promise Moira that she will not lose them no matter the secret. Sure Jan.
"Gee I didn't get you a bag of dirt." Bless this cupcake.
Where did Sara get her suit?
Malcolm Merlyn is also a member of The League of Assassins.
"Oliver’s lucky to have you both as friends. He hasn’t always had the best of luck in that area." Sara’s not so casual remarks about Slade and Shado are friggin ominous. It’s time to get real nervous about the flashbacks.
“You think because you are the beloved that you will be granted your freedom?” We all know who Sara’s beloved is and I’m very much looking forward to her arrival.
"Pain and I came to a little understanding a few years back." Sara takes a licking but keeps on kicking. This is such a bad ass line. The episode is chalk full of them. I love the OG Canary.

15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25 from the fixed ask game for john diggle (arrow)
i know its a lot im sorry T.T
Hii anon! Sorry it took so long for me to answer. And it’s totally okay I love answering asks!!
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
Dyla (dig and Lyla.) they couldn’t love each other outside the battlefield so they separated, they
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
I don’t really have one?? I’m a multishipper so it’s kind of hard to choose which one is my least favorite. Though I think that they shouldn’t have rushed to get Diggle together with Lyla so soon. Not like “give Diggle more love interests/pairings” (though I wouldn’t have been mad if we got that) but just let him be single WITHOUT a crush or anything if that makes sense.
17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?
Read above ^^
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
Oliver and Diggle. I could talk about their friendship and stuff for HOURS. How they really do make each other better. I think a lot of people see they’re friendship as Diggle helped better Oliver and kickstarted him down the green arrow path” or like, Diggle as a stepping stone for Oliver when in actuality they were stepping stones for each other and so much more. Like, When John killed Andy and was about to let himself rot in prison: Oliver pulled him out and gave him somewhere to
19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?
Ehh I don’t really have one??? BUT i don’t like how the writers made him brush off his grudge against floyd lawton after working with him and Amanda Waller for a day. He should’ve stayed at list a little mad.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
This!!
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
I don’t have one really. John is such a special character and I love him so much I guess my brain just doesn’t try to pick out similarities between him and other characters (if that makes sense.)
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Longsuffering accomplice to Oliver’s vigilantism. Now I think he’s someone with strict moral code and priorities who’s not afraid to bend (and sometimes break) for his family and friends. Also someone who’s been through so fucking much??? Like this guy has so much trauma that just goes untalked about?? His father died when he was young. His mom married the guy that was at fault for his father’s death. That guy (his stepdad) was a dick. He joined the army. His brother was presumed dead and he blamed himself for not being able to save him. Then he’s hired as a bodyguard for a guy who just got back from an island and is thrown into his crusade to save his city. This guys now his best friend and he has a wife and daughter, except NOW his best friend kidnapped his wife and left their infant daughter ALONE in an apartment. Then his best friends ran off together and left him to lead the team and protect the city. THEN they come back THEN he finds out that his brother is alive and that he’s been working for an evil organization that their villain of the week is partnered with/runs (can’t remember exactly HOW Damien Darhk was connected to hive) THEN his best friend (who he recently made up with) keeps pushing for him to help his brother but he obviously doesn’t trust either of them THEN he finally agrees to help his brother/try to save him and locks him in a cell/metal box in the bunker and goes to see him everyday THEN WHEN HE FINALLY THINKS THAT HIS BROTHER IS ON HIS SIDE AGAIN HE TURNS ON HIM AND HIS FRIEND DIES BECAUSE OF IT. THEN HE ACCIDENTALLY OFFS HIS BROTHER THEN HE LEAVES HIS TEAM AND FRIENDS BECAUSE HES SO GUILTY AND GOES BACK TO THE ARMY. THEN GETS IN TROUBLE AND ALMOST LETS HIMSELF ROT IN JAIL BECAUSE HES THINKS HE DESERVES IT FOR LAUREL DYING AND KILLING ANDY. I could go on and on about how much TRAUMA he has and then his green lantern arc was just SHOVED UNDER THE RUG??? Like, we could’ve gotten Diggle as a main MAIN character again but nooooo. He’s such a layered character and it was all thrown under the rug after arrow ended.
Sorry, I have a lot feelings about his character and some of them are intelligible. So uh yeah.

Criminal Minds 2x16:
'Fear and Loathing'
Reactions/Commentary Below The Cut
(Yes, I did skip 2x15 because the main point to know from that one is that Reid gets hooked on drugs. I don't need to get that info to remember it for later.)
I'll be watching at the same time as a friend, so I won't be pausing to write everything out nicely like I tend to. So, we shall see what goes on.
Love how Prentiss is a hot nerd. She just needs to find another nerd.
We had someone with PTSD earlier this season. Absolutely hate we are having Damaged Reid this season too.
----
I hate these flashbacks. I don't want anything to do with that storyline.
----
I do like this low-key commentary on cops only caring about the white kids.
----
Oh they used the term "anit-racism" in the mid 2000s? I didn't realize that. I only heard it in the past few years, but that probably goes to how inactive I was in the world before that.
----
Oh damn, forgot about the cop getting shot. Bastard didn't even say anything. I hope he goes to fucking jail. Gave himself permission to be executioner. What a POS.
Thankful for the commentary on white people assuming all Black people look alike.
----
At least one girl was smart enough to not/not desperate enough go with the guy.
I know that girl from something. Camille Winbush. The Bernie Mac Show.
Oh, the guy who played Diggle on Arrow is the unsub. David Ramsey.
----
That's definitely the right souvenir for a music-oriented killer.
DON'T BELIEVE HIM! COME ON OFFICER! At least the FBI got there.
There were several of those cops super willing to shoot a Black suspect.
----
Sad funeral scene :(
----
I very, very, distinctly remember watching this when it first aired and my dad laughing and saying, "That's not empathy." It's fucking trauma, Derek! Geezus Fucking Kryst.
You get therapy. THAT'S what you do. Again, Geezus Fucking Kryst, Derek!

"Diggle at the very top, we see there's been a routine over the past several months of him visiting Oliver. So you see that at the beginning of 701, that Oliver and Diggle have a lovely relationship, if you can say that. As lovely as you can visiting someone in jail. So yeah, these guys they're, for all intents and purposes, back together."

Arrow: “I Wrote My Way Out” 05
Title: I Wrote My Way Out Rating: T Summary: Takes place after 5x09. Felicity cannot allow herself to continue to grieve for Billy with Prometheus still out and Diggle in jail. She must rise up and focus on getting the justice that she thinks is deserved as well as put the team back together. *~*~*~*~*~*~*
Her back was pressed against his chest, their breathing slowly syncing up, Oliver's arm along hers, and her focus straight instead of the string or the fletching. It was a way of letting go of the world all around for a moment. Sure, she was mindful of Oliver and the bow and even the target, but everything else...it faded away. The world fading away was welcomed for that moment. Aim. Breathe. Release. Thwick. Breathe. The arrow traveled through the air and towards its target quickly, but Oliver was guiding her to ready another arrow nearly instantly. Her arrow hit the target far closer than her last had. Felicity knew that once in the field that she wouldn't have a lot of time in between. She'd witnessed Oliver, Roy, and Thea all out in the field with bows. Sure, not all of them used compound bows, but she was fairly sure that using one meant that she should just be quicker than she was. Out in the field, against Prometheus, it would mean life or death. Life or death. So much of it had already been death. They needed the life part. She needed it. "Again!" he snapped immediately after an arrow had been released. He was trying to get her to do rapid fire succession, but Felicity didn't know if she was capable of such things. "Again!" This was something that she'd seen when he'd trained the others. She was used to his snappy tone, it was just a little hard to take when it was in her ear and normally when he got like this, it was something that she fought against. Not this time. No. She knew that she needed to welcome it. But she was still Felicity Smoak, no matter how much she tried to channel her inner arrow-y masked hero. She'd felt good for all of ten seconds until her arrow had clattered to the floor. She let out a sigh and almost felt like bursting into tears at the sound of it. His sigh emphasized how much of a failure she felt in that moment all the more. "Let's take a break." Deciding that maybe that was a good idea, she walked away to get a drink of water. She found Curtis sitting in her normal spot, his hand already kindly extended with a waiting water bottle. "You okay?" "What?" she questioned and then it processed a moment later as she twisted the cap off of the water bottle. Felicity squeezed her eyes shut before shaking her head slightly, as if she were trying to reset her brain computer into functioning properly. "I mean, yeah...yeah I'm okay." As she drank the water, she didn't miss the look of disbelief on Curtis' face. "What?" she asked. "You can be honest, you know?" She frowned in immediate response before turning to take in where Oliver was. Felicity didn't see him. "He stepped out." "What?" she asked as she whipped back around. "He's probably just as frustrated as you are," Curtis told her. Standing there for a moment, she thought about that. She knew that training her, especially training her on a tight timeline had to be difficult because she definitely wasn't Thea or Sara. They both likely needed a lot less training than she did, or at least attention on the subject. Felicity felt like she was letting Oliver down by not picking it up as quickly as they needed or that she wanted. It wasn't just Oliver, though, that she felt like she was letting down...it was herself, the team...and Billy. "Okay, whatever darkness is in your head right now, just let it go." Blinking, she looked right at Curtis. "What?" "I can see it. I know you're trying to hide it, but you can't...not from Oliver and certainly not from me," Curtis told her. "We haven't worked together for that long, but I can still tell when something is wrong with you...and something's wrong...I mean, obviously things are wrong, but what I mean--" "Okay, okay," Felicity said as she held up a hand. She took a sip of the water and took a calming breath. "I just don't want to be the weakest link." "You will be." She glared slightly at him. "I mean it in a practical way since you're just right now learning how to use a bow," Curtis told her. "I should have pushed Digg and Oliver to work on at least some more advanced self defense training over the years," Felicity stated before sipping her water once again. "You're badass as it is," he pointed out. "You learning how to use a bow is only going to up your threat level against your foes." "If only this were some video game…" "Just think of it that way," Curtis told her. "Let's think of a class…" "Hacker." Curtis shook his head, a smile spreading across his face. "Well...bows and arrows...how about a hunter?" "Do I get a pet?" "You've got Oliver...and Thea." She smiled a little at that. "I suppose that can work." "And you have me." Felicity smiled more. "Okay, so I'm a hunter…" "Leather wearer. Lone wolf. That way you don't require a pet. You're badass enough to go lone wolf, right?" Lone wolf. It hit her. It was like a switch went off inside of her. It was like everything they'd been talking about suddenly made sense in her head. Her tone was distracted and almost distant as she finally responded to him. "Yeah...yeah I am." Read at AO3 or ff.net

Friendly reminders about The Flash⚡️
Things I had forgotten or little details I just noticed on my rewatch, maybe even Unpopular Opinions 🤭👀
✨Season 4✨
Even though this was honestly one of my least favorite seasons it was pretty interesting to watch and it had some pretty cool, badass and hilarious scenes lmao
Ok but the intro on the first episode was kinda cool
Cisco, wally and Joe working together... we stan 🙌🏼
Also the new star labs tables and tech make it look pretty cool
Samuroid, Kilg%re, Hazard, Amunet Black, T•h•e W•e•e•p•e•r, Black Bison, The Thinker, Bᵣₐᵢₙₛₜₒᵣₘ, 千卂ㄥㄥㄖㄩㄒ, Prank and Trickster Jr., Dwarfstar, m̾e̾l̾t̾i̾n̾g̾ ̾p̾o̾i̾n̾t̾, Null, The folded man
Ramsey Deacon aka Kilg%re
Rebecca Sharpe (Becky) aka Hazard
Ralph Dibny aka the elongated man
T•h•e W•e•e•p•e•r
Mina Chaytan aka Black Bison
Dominic Lance aka Bᵣₐᵢₙₛₜₒᵣₘ
Neil Borman aka 千卂ㄥㄥㄖㄩㄒ
Sylbert Rundine aka Dwarfstar
Izzy Bowen
Matthew Kim aka m̾e̾l̾t̾i̾n̾g̾ ̾p̾o̾i̾n̾t̾
Janet Petty aka Null
Edwin Gauss aka the folded man
Wally can speak Japanese😂
Joe being able to forgive Caitlin after what she did is amazing I love them 🥺
West-Allen kiss count (approximately): 46 😘
Cisco being upset because he was at the "doghouse" in ep2 is hilarious
"Rule number 1, when a girl say it's fine, it's not fine" i- I'd be happy with Cisco as my boyfriend
Gypsy's gorgeous bro 🤩
Ok i'm sorry but that "we are the flash" bothers me
Not Cisco, Barry, and Caitlin playing laser tag... AGAINST KIDS😂💀 And Cisco really went "you have failed this city" I love them (ep3)
Jesse just broke up with Wally... With a…
Breakup cube i-
HARRY IS SO AWKWARD
Joe being lost or done with everything going on around him is hilarious, and he also looked so sad when Cecile asked him to sell the house
Iris and Barry really would've gotten married out of the blue if it hadn't been for Kevin (the lil boy in ep3) LMAOOO
This boy really used cinnamon incense on purpose when the father was allergic to it and just went :) ┐(´ー`)┌
"no need to shame the little boy" I-
We love Barry defending little kids 🥺
I liked Cisco's shirt in this episode
Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense
Refrigerator
Not Wally leaving 🥺😩
BAHHAHHSXHAHSGHASGAH Joe's reaction when Cecile told him she was pregnant
OMG just realized that in the beginning of ep4 when Cisco and Gypsy are making out on Cisco's bed that… BRO I-
After Cisco asked Gypsy what her real name was she went to the bathroom and he stayed in bed but went to look for something in the little night table… that something was probably a condom… Y'ALL WHAT BAHBSAHBSHAS
Ralph Dibny used to be a dirty cop, I had Completely forgotten about this man
I just noticed that every time that Barry goes into a new room he looks around and i guess he tries to grasp as much information of it as possible and it's kinda cute
I like how Breacher always has a serious face but when Gypsy talks to him he smiles 🥺
CISKY KABDjahdHAHDSH
Also Breacher being Danny Trejo (Machete) from Spy Kids
"Good people don't destroy lives and call it noble"
Gypsy's real name is Cynthia and Breacher's Josh
Girl Night's out was an awesome episode, I mean we got to see the girls working together, Felicity, Drunk Barry and Cecile going #feminism it's just great
Amunet was kinda funny lmao Annoying but funny lol
BAHSHAHHA that scene when they get mugged by the guy that try to mugged Barry in s1 is hilariousss (ep6)
Ok but Black Bison (Mina) was right like why are things that belong to people that are still here in a museum?
Uff istg I hate Marlize sm like she's so manipulative and she just slapped Barry like bro u know ur guilty he's just doing his job ugh, I know she becomes good at the end but still 😤🙄
Harry and Caitlin 🥺
I love how Cisco's powers improved throughout the seasons. Like at the beginning he needed his goggles to vibe and now he just did it without them.
Bro even tho Amunet is evil she really just encouraged Caitlin and let her know that she is amazing for her, not only for killer frost.
I like Iris and Caitlin's friendship
The fact that she decided to go after Caitlin, instead of Barry shows how good of a leader she is

Bro no wth I only saw Dominic for one episode and I already loved him 🥺
UGHHHH He didn't do anything this is not fair it makes me so upset like it was so infuriating to see him go through trial for something he didn't do🥺

Ok but I love 千卂ㄥㄥㄖㄩㄒ's episode because I think it's like the first time that we get to see Killer Frost fighting alongside them 🥺
They really helped Caitlin turn into Killer Frost with... puppies 🥺😂❤️
Bro the amount of people that are in jail for crimes they didn't commit makes me so upset
And the fact that he got the same cell as his dad 🤌🏼😩
"I'm the fastest mop alive" I love how even when he's in prison he's still finds a way to smile or make Iris smile i-
Zoey Clark was James Jesse's girlfriend and Axel Walker's mother.
Ralph's first superhero name was stretchy man
Lexi La Roche was Caitlin's childhood bully
Omg just saw Nora for the first time in s4 ehhh actually probably not the first time since I think she appeared in the crossover but I skipped that episode so oh well 😂

BAHSHAHHA I love Cisco "Ralph I love you but you sleep on a futon" (a damp futon)
AND IRIS "you nasty" JAHSHAHA
Ok but I love Izzy Bowen's energy, she reminds me of Laurel sm
I love how Harry calls Cecile- DA Cecile Horton
The Flash s4:E14 "Subject 9" minute 12:14 - Cisco yelling "Iris" with the voice Crack is the most hilarious thing I've seen today lmaoo
Just realized that the first time we saw Izzy Bowen she was singing Somethin' Bad which was probably foreshadowing what was going to happen with her character
Bro izzy🥺
"AH SON OF A BREACH" BAHSHAHHA
Iris being a speedster is kinda cool and I like that her lightning is purple :)💜⚡️
Cisco just saved Iris 🥺
Poor Cisco, Harry just destroyed his little airplane thingie he was working on because he was looking for his thinking cap that Joe had because Harry was getting addicted to it
And Joe noticed because Harry had the same symptoms as Francine did 🥺
Bro that scene in ep18 where Marlize and Iris are fighting is pretty badass, especially when Iris basically stabs herself to get rid of Marlize or when Joe makes it into the Cortex with the Samuroid's head in a pole lmaooo😂
Ralph and Killer Frost 🥺
I love Snart from Earth-X
Bro no I love Cisco and Gypsy I cried when they broke up 🥺

The Losers: Chris Evans, Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana’s Forgotten Superhero Movie
https://ift.tt/3CsNhNU
Even The Losers get lucky sometimes. Before the DCEU was formed to compete against the ever-expanding, cash cow that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the approach at Warner Bros. was far looser. With the booming business of comic book adaptations in full swing, the studio was throwing money at several eclectic comic book titles like Watchmen and Jonah Hex, trying to stay competitive and seemingly more adult than their rivals. Hence before leaving to create his own superhero project, Hancock, wrier-director Peter Berg started penning an adaptation of DC/Vertigo’s The Losers, bringing in French director Sylvain White to helm the picture.
Produced by Joel Silver, The Losers centered on a team of elite, black-ops Special Forces operatives betrayed by their handler. Director White connected with the material immediately.
“What appealed to me about The Losers was that it wasn’t the typical superhero-with-superpowers thing,” White told MTV. “It was based on real characters—realistic characters—and based in reality, like a lot of the European graphic novels that I had grown up reading.” The director worked with creators Jock and Andy Diggle to refine the script and lend their expertise with design to give the film a distinct visual palette that changes with new locations.
Frequent Silver collaborator Idris Elba was cast as Captain William Roque, with the cast being rounded out by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, coming off his turn as The Comedian in the studio’s adaptation of Watchmen, Zoe Saldana, fresh off of starring in the highest-grossing film of all-time, Avatar, Chris Evans, still mainly known for playing the Human Torch in Fox’s early Fantastic Four films, and rising actor Columbus Short. While current audiences would go on to become intimately familiar with most of this cast, their names didn’t generate enough buzz in 2010 to get folks into the theater. The Losers only made about $30 million on a $25 million budget.
Of course a tepid response at the box office does not mean that a movie is destined for obscurity. Just recently hitting Netflix and ready to capitalize off its now A-list cast, The Losers is currently the most popular film on the streaming service. Besides the even greater interest in comic book properties, the cast of The Losers have gone on to such success that they revitalized interest in one of DC’s almost-forgotten adaptations. Let’s look at where the cast of The Losers have been since the film’s release in 2010 to explain the sudden spike in love.
Idris Elba
While Elba, a star of British television via Luther, had already made an impression with American audiences by 2010 thanks to 28 Weeks Later, Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, and a guest stint on The Office, Elba’s star would rise considerably after his appearance in The Losers. In 2011, Elba would join the MCU as Heimdall in Thor, who’s role in the Thor films would expand as the franchise progressed. Elba would also pop up in prominent roles in blockbusters like Prometheus, Pacific Rim, The Jungle Book, and Star Trek Beyond. Away from blockbusters though he really broke out with a SAG-winning performance in Beasts of No Nations, and starring in fare like Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game.
More recently, Elba stole scenes away from Jason Statham and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the villain in Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw. Finally, things have come a bit full circle for Elba, as he’s set to appear in another DC adaptation over 10 years after The Losers, portraying Bloodsport in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan
In 2010, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was probably most well-known for his roles on television in series like Supernatural and Grey’s Anatomy. That all changed after Morgan was cast in an adaptation of the “unfilmable” graphic novel Watchmen as The Comedian. While his time onscreen in the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons adaptation was minimal, bringing such an iconic comic book character to life earned Morgan a deeper cachet with the Comic-Con crowd. Morgan would work steadily in films like The Possession and the Red Dawn remake, but he arguably made a bigger impact on television portraying yet another iconic comic book character on AMC’s The Walking Dead, Negan.

Morgan received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the villainous Negan upon his debut, earning the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series, MTV Movie and TV Award for Best Villain, and Saturn Award for Best Guest Starring Role on Television. He’s been going steady as Negan since while doing other occasional comic-con friendly projects like Rampage.
Zoe Saldana
Zoe Saldana was on top of the world in 2010, and in the time since, she’s only become more successful. After appearing in the buzzy Star Trek reboot in 2009 and a little film called Avatar, the former Center Stage star would go on to headline her own action film Colombiana. However, that would seem like small potatoes compared to what would come in 2014. Saldana was cast as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s riskiest adaptation to date. Would audiences get onboard with an off-beat space opera featuring C-tier Marvel characters? Turns out, yes. Gamora not only became the heart of the Guardians, but the character would feature prominently in the grand Phase 3 finales Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
In the shadow of that, Saldana has starred in more Star Trek sequels, an ill-advised TV remake of Rosemary’s Baby, and as Nina Simone in in Nina, a performance did come under fire for due to the lightness of her skin. Still, Saldana now has leading roles in the two highest grossing films of all-time, and is still expected to star in Guardians and Avatar sequels. Not too shabby.
Chris Evans
Speaking of the MCU, Chris Evans wasn’t floundering in 2010, but he did seem to be stuck in a bit of a rut, typecast as handsome smart alecks prior to The Losers. In fact, his big mainstream break is probably the less than classic spoof comedy, Not Another Teen Movie (2001); afterward he played Johnny Storm in Tim Story’s lukewarm Fantastic Four movies in the mid-2000s; in fact, arguably his most amusing role up to 2010 was when he appeared as a douchebag movie star in Edgar Wright’s genre-bending comedy, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010).

$400 Million Knives Out 2 Deal Gives Netflix Major Movie Franchise

That said, The Losers found him playing against type as an awkward tech expert. Perhaps his chance to show a different side of himself led to his life-changing role as Steve Rogers in the MCU’s Captain America. Anchoring the Avengers franchise for eight years, Chris Evans rose to the top of the A-list, and used that newfound celebrity to help get passion projects like Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out made. Evans is one of the most popular celebrities on social media right now and looks to continue his profitable relationship with Disney by voicing Buzz Lightyear in the animated origin film, Lightyear.
Columbus Short
Perhaps the only member of the cast not to launch into the stratosphere after The Losers, Columbus Short has had a few issues that have prevented his rise. Short booked a role on the popular ABC series Scandal, but personal issues derailed his involvement in the show. In 2014, as part of a no-jail plea agreement, Short pled guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence and performed 30 hours of community service. Short also avoided jail by pleading no contest to a felony assault charge after throwing “a running punch” at his in-law during a family gathering at a bar.
In an interview with Access Hollywood Live, Short shared that substance abuse due to the stress of family issues and personal loss had led to his departure from Scandal. However, Short has appeared to move past his personal struggles and can next been seen portraying Martin Luther King Jr. in Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Storyand returning as Quadir Richards in True to the Game 3.

DC extreme capture the flag
This post is open for contribution, whether it be characters, teams, rules or funny scenarios that you can think of
TEAMS:
The Bats (black flag): - Bruce Wayne - Dick Grayson - Barbara Gordon - Jason Todd - Tim Drake - Damian Wayne - Duke Thomas - Cassandra Cain - Stephanie Brown
The Supers (blue flag): - Clark Kent - Lois Lane - Lucy Lane - Conner Kent - Jon Kent - Kara Danvers - Bizarro - Karen Starr - Lar Gand
The Amazons (yellow flag): (let’s face it. This team would win. Hands down) - Diana Prince - Steve Trevor - Donna Troy - Cassie Sandsmark - Artemis - Nubia - Grace Choi - Queen Hippolyta - Etta Candy
The Atlanteans (orange flag): - King Arthur - Queen Mera - Garth - Tula - Kaldur’ahm - Dolphin - Lorena Marquez - Koryak - Arthur Jr.
The Speedsters (red flag): - Barry Allen - Iris West - Wally West - Wallace West - Bart Allen - Thaddeus Thawne - Jesse Chambers - Avery Ho - Max Mercury
The Arrows (green flag): - Oliver Queen - Dinah Lance - Roy Harper - Lian Harper - Emiko Queen - Mia Dearden - Connor Hawke - Cissie King-Jones - John Diggle
RULES:
- THERE ARE NO RULES. - Kidding. Of course there are rules. This is Capture the Flag: Extreme Edition. This means war. And even war has rules. - There are six teams. Six flags. Usually, this game only has two teams and two flags, but this is the Extreme Edition so the rules will be tweaked a little. - One rule remains the same: your flag must be visible. You cannot hide it. The other teams must be able to spot your flag from ten feet (10 ft) away. - There are six territories for the six teams. Five of them are on land, while the Atlanteans’ is in the water, because not all of them are high-born and they need water to survive. Plus it makes the game really interesting. - A circle must be drawn around your flag, one that your team cannot enter. This circle must be ten feet (10 ft) in diameter. No one is allowed to stand directly in front of their flag. - Because there are six flags, the way to win is a little different. I’ll explain it like this: if team ‘Bats’ captures the flag of team ‘Speedsters’, then team ‘Speedsters’ is forced to join forces with team ‘Bats’. They become one team. This system goes on until there are only two teams. Whichever team can steal the other’s flags, wins. Game over. - You cannot join forces if your flags aren’t joined. No team affiliation unless flags have been captured. Team affiliation is illegal. Unless flags are captured. - Once a flag has been captured and forces are joined, those forces can only be broken through one way. Let’s return to the previous example. Teams ‘Bats’ and ‘Speedsters’ are now one team. If team ‘Arrows’ were to steal the ‘Speedsters’ flag, this does not mean that ‘Speedsters’ now joins ‘Arrows’. they stay joined with ‘Bats’. However, if ‘Arrows’ were to also steal ‘Bats’ flag, then both ‘Speedsters’ and ‘Bats’ must join forces with ‘Arrows’. However, However. Let’s say team ‘Amazons’ were to then steal the ‘Bats’ flag, what happens then? Simple! The two teams must then split. ‘Speedsters’ join with ‘Arrows’, ‘Bats’ join with ‘Amazons’. This is the only way to break forces. - There are jails! Team members can be tagged and captured by opposite team members. Captured members will be taken to a jail that is in another team’s neutral spot. Captured members can be freed by their own team, if they can get past the guards. The tagger must escort the captured to their jail, if they don’t then the captured has permission to run for it. The ‘Atlanteans’ jail is on land. - NO POWERS. The game is to be set on an equal ground. No speed. No super strength. No water manipulation. Nothing. If powers are used, this will result in an automatic disqualification and your team becomes spectators (they can just chill around the territories and watch the game). - Surprises are allowed. When I say surprises, I mean that you are allowed to bring in brand new teammates to join your team. The only team that knows this are the ‘Bats’, since they were the ones to come up with this idea, once when they were really really bored. Once this is common knowledge, the other teams are allowed to call in their own surprises. This includes pets.
SHENANIGANS!!!
(hey, listen. I just want to put this out there. At this point in the post, I will be using some of my ships in these shenanigans. This does not mean that that ship is the default one in this headcannon. For example, I ship birdflash and will write some shenanigans involving them. But if you want to place Linda Park in this and have Wally cheering on his badass wife as she tackles other players to the ground, then you go ahead and do that! I ship batcat, but if you want to write out Bruce successfully distracting Clark while Dick and Jason steal the ‘Supers’ flag, that’s fine! Use whatever ships you want! Have fun with it! However, pedophilic, abusive, and incestuous ships are not welcomed here. Let’s just make that clear.)
Immediately, they had to start a second round. Because a minute into the first one, Bizarro had used his powers to get to the black flag and demand that Jason join forces with him. It resulted in laughing fits and Jason having to sit Bizarro down to explain the rules to him again. -- Dick, guarding the jail: Wally I swear to fucking god you even try to free them, I will not have sex with you for the next month! Wally: What!? Barry, in jail: No! Dick, how could you!? Don’t free us, Wally! Bart, also in jail: Don’t you dare do that to us, Dick! He’s going to stay over at our house and mope and eat all the chocolate and watch romantic movies and his eyes are going to tear up whenever the characters kiss! Wally: What!? I don’t do that! Dick, fully knowing that was the reaction he was going to get and now struggling to hold back laughter: You really do. It’s kind of flattering, actually -- Lois, before the match begins: Hey, Bruce, is Selina not joining us? I was kinda hoping to introduce her to Iris Bruce, thinking about how Selina is their trump card and is going to join halfway through the game and win it for them: No, she’s busy. Sorry. -- Diana, after learning that Lian Harper successfully entered their territory and stole their flag: How. Queen Hippolyta, close to tears: Her eyes are so big. She reminded me of you when you were that age. She’s going to make a great warrior one day. -- Kara, guarding the flag: Why does it feel so cold? Conner, also guarding the flag: I feel cold, too Kara and Conner: ... Tim, suddenly directly behind them: That flag is mine. Kara and Conner: *scream* -- Jason: Kory!? Kory: Hello, Jason Roy, standing atop a hill with Lian in his arms: Hahaha!! You’ve brought in your surprise, I’ve brought in mine! Behold! The great Koriand’r from the planet Tamaran! Lian: She’s gonna kick your ass! Roy: Whoa! hey, where’d you get that word from!? -- Garth and Donna: *wrestling on the floor and screaming at each other* Dick, close to tears because this is the fifth time this has happened this match: Would you two please stop fighting!? This was meant to be a fun game of capture the flag, not war between atlanteans and amazons!!! -- Arthur Jr., guarding the jail after he captured Bart: You play videogames? Bart: Dude, of course! I’m trying to beat Warriors VS Assassins 5 at the moment, but the levels are really hard this time Arthur Jr., sadly: I can’t play videogames, I live in the water Bart: That sucks Thaddeus, sprinting out of the trees with an unholy shriek: RELEASE BART RIGHT NOW!!! Arthur Jr.: *screams* Bart: THAD NO! -- Oliver: Your kids had a great idea with this, Bats. It’s nice to have something where everyone can just take a break from crime and have fun. Dinah’s having a great time. I think this game might also be bringing Roy and I closer together- Bruce, to Jason, as Oliver’s still talking: Did you have to capture their flag? Jason, holding Lian in one arm, the other wrapped around Roy’s waist: Yeah. Yeah, I did. -- Wally, having just encountered Dick as he’s trying to capture the black flag: Ooh, what are you gonna do, Officer Grayson? You gonna arrest me? Dick: I am going to murder you Wally: Sounds sexy- ACK *gets tackled to the ground* -- Barry, attempting to sneak into the Amazon territory: Artemis, spotting him: The Flash is trying to capture our flag! Queen Hippolyta, instantly: GET HIM! Barry, running away from five Amazons who are all on his tail: OH MY GOD WHY DID I EVEN ATTEMPT THIS I AM SO SCARED RIGHT NOW
#I'm super bored and trying to pass the time so I am going to dedicate the next three hours to planing this out#this took so long to plan that it's going into the next day alright here we go#alright I can't think of anymore scenarios I'm done#DC comics#batfam#superfam#wonderfam#aquafam#flashfam#arrowfam#DC comics memes#capture the flag#batman#superman#wonder woman#aquaman#flash#green arrow#atlanteans#amazons#nightwing#donna troy#kid flash#garth#aqualad#arsenal#robin#red arrow#superboy#speedy

Fadeout - Arrow Music Notes 8x10
The final episode brings the series to a close as the characters deal with a changed world and reality without Oliver Queen. The show brings closure to the characters and the audience as everyone says a final goodbye. Due to this being the last one, almost everything was a musical callback to a previous moment on Arrow which means this analysis is going to be on the long side.
A New World
The music usually chosen for Oliver’s intro speeches includes previous music from the series and often heroic sounding but not with specific meaning. This last one was a little different as it used the heroic justice/league heroes music from Crisis as Oliver explains that he became something else and birthed a new universe. He became the leader of all the heroes and set the stage for a changed world.
The episode begins with one of the most heart-breaking scenes from the series: Moira’s death. The same music “Promise Kept” (2x20) accompanies the scene until things change. As soon as Oliver cuts himself free and stops Slade, his hero theme 2 (“Time to Go Home” 2x01) plays in the horn while he saves his mom, changing her fate. In a similar way, the same music for the flashback of Robert Queen telling Oliver to survive contains the same music as the pilot and the hammered dulcimer plays the hero theme as Mia wakes up in the future.
The Documentary from 7x12 returns as a Memorial beginning with Moira as she tries to wrap her head around the fact that she died in a different reality and that the whole world was a gift from her son. As she speaks, high electronics play “Honor Memory” (1x02) which originally played for Oliver when he tried to honor the memory of his father, torn between how he would honor his father’s sacrifice and mission to right his wrongs as a Vigilante and how he may appear less honoring as Oliver Queen, especially in the beginning. It returned several times as Oliver dealt with the fact that his father was less honorable than he believed. He grew over the seasons recognizing with the help of Felicity and others that he did not need to carry the burden of his father’s past but continue his own legacy of heroism and love, sacrificing himself to save not only the world but those he loved, including his mother who now has chance to honor him.
Dinah, Rene, and Diggle speak to the Documentary team about Oliver and the changes he made both for them and the city. The music hearkens to the synths and lower bass sounds that the original documentary had. Rene drops by after Diggle talks to the camera discussing the fact that crime has disappeared overnight thanks to Oliver, but Diggle is not ready to believe that the mission is over yet. As they talk about Oliver saving the city, hammered dulcimer (one of Oliver’s instruments since the pilot) accompanies the scene. His instruments and presence is felt throughout the episode even though he himself is not visible in the present time.
Diggle and Rene meet up with Roy, Dinah and Laurel to toast to Oliver with Vodka and discuss what they are planning on doing next. Piano and higher electronics play a theme from 7x10 that had been used for Emiko and Rene’s conversations when Rene shared that he wanted to help the city. Now, he shares a new stage of that dream by running for Mayor after Lance steps down with his endorsement and Dinah shares her upcoming promotion. The piano (Oliver’s instrument) plays the theme as another sign of Oliver’s gift to his team and city for a better future.
Rene asks Diggle when Felicity will be coming in for the funeral and Diggle replies that she might not make it as she hasn’t gotten out of bed since they received the news of Oliver’s death. As he shares this, a piano version of “Being Happy” (1x07) plays. This theme is usually over electronics (“Own Worst enemy”) in the strings. It originally was with Oliver and Tommy’s tough relationship as Tommy believed Oliver was a murderer but at the same time recognized that Oliver’s choices especially in lying to everyone closest to him took a toll: “If you are alone, you’ll never be happy.” Oliver responded that his happiness wasn’t what was important. However, one of the beautiful growing parts for Oliver was that over time, he did accept happiness and others into his life, especially the love of his life and his daughter Mia. The theme comes back in 7x22 as Oliver and Felicity happily share a life together with baby Mia, a life of happiness and everything Oliver deserved. But now he is gone and Felicity is left alone, grieving. This music is in the piano (Oliver’s instrument) but stripped down to simple piano chords, getting rid of all the other instruments and even changing to minor/sadder chords. It’s an echo of the happiness that they had.
While many people were brought back to life in this new reality such as Moira, Quentin, Tommy and Emiko, there were two notable exceptions: Robert and Laurel. Laurel from Earth 2 struggled with this knowledge, feeling guilty that it was because of her that Quentin did not have his daughter back. She goes to talk to him about it as “She was my rock/Canary Flies Away” (4x20) plays. This theme was first heard as Quentin struggled with Laurel’s death throughout season 4 and 5. Later on, it was used to forge connections between himself and Laurel 2 as Quentin recognized her as family while still knowing she wasn’t his original daughter. Here, Quentin tells Laurel in a fatherly tone that nothing needed to be fixed about her which is why Oliver didn’t change anything in regards to her.
Flashbacks
Diggle remembers when he joined the team and Oliver wasn’t letting him go at on the field yet. As Oliver appears and crosses another name off the list, high electronics play reminiscent of “On the List.” Although the melody is a little different, the atmospheric electronics are the same and then the hammered dulcimer plays a new melody as Diggle asks Oliver when the list/mission will end and Oliver responds that it will never end. The high electronics return as Diggle tries to help Oliver and bring down the body count, to convince him that there are other ways of justice beside killing them.
Oliver still goes after the bad guy on his own and kills everyone in his way in a classic Season 1 vibe. In the same fashion, the music reflects Season 1 fight music: string patterns, electronics, and brass but without most of the classic Arrow themes until the end. The brass glissando is heard as he zips up out at the end and then the Arrow string pattern and the hero theme (brass) plays as he lands and decides not to kill but just apprehend the bad guy. The brass hero theme was actually used quite sparingly in Season 1. Outside of the pilot “Setting up the Lair” in guitar harmonics, it was often heard in snippets - 2 or 3 notes instead of all four such as in “Damaged.” While that does occur throughout the all Seasons also for musical effect, in the first Season it is because he is not fully a hero yet. The entire motif is heard in the brass (a heroic sound) in 1x14 when he reveals himself to Felicity and then she and Diggle saves his life. She is the light that can see the hero he becomes and it is through her faith, the loyalty and morality of Diggle, and the decision no longer to kill after Tommy’s death, that set him in motion to move from a killing Vigilante to a hero. In fact, it isn’t used in the Title theme until Season 2 as Oliver begins this shift and the theme is heard much more frequently in fighting scenes such as “A Different Way” (2x01).

Thea and Roy reunite again after Roy freaked out and left her over the past year or two. After trying to apologize (with bad timing), the two of them search for William together as “Team Continues Without Oliver” (3x11) plays in electronics and percussion in their running and jumping off roofs, which includes Roy’s Arsenal Theme. Roy proceeds to apologize for leaving her and proposes. While he does so, “I can’t lose you twice” (1x20) accompanies the scene. This theme accompanied several couples such as Laurel and Tommy’s relationship, Laurel and Oliver (1x23), Felicity and Oliver, and Roy and Thea. It first played for Thea and Roy in 1x20 as Roy is determined to find the vigilante, telling Thea that his life is connected to his own and she agrees to help find him. At that point, they would have no idea how true that would become even to the point of Roy saying he was the Arrow and taking the fall so that Oliver could stay and not go to jail in Season 3. This theme returned when Thea found Roy/Jason in 3x22 giving him back the Arsenal jacket and they end up kissing. They both have had different journeys to find themselves and the heroes they became. Having died and come back to life has given Roy a new perspective that he wants Thea in his life for always which leads to this moment.
Thea doesn’t give him an answer right away until after William is found and they meet up in the Queen mansion. She first asks him to promise that he will never freak out and leave without talking to her. The music is accompanied by clarinet (one of Thea’s instruments) first heard in 5x15. It originally played when Thea tells Oliver she is leaving and not to ask her to stay as she needed to figure out who she was. This theme then returns in 6x16 (“Take Good Care of Her”) as she and Roy plan to leave together to destroy the Lazarus pits. Roy told her that he was going with her because all that mattered was that they were together. She found both her calling and was able to leave with Roy. Despite the bumps that happened since then, she realizes she doesn’t want to waste anymore time without Roy by her side and says yes to his proposal.
Mia and Felicity Return
Sara brought back Mia to attend Oliver’s funeral and she tries to “channel her mom” at the computers as Dinah finds her. While not being to tell much about the future, she does share that something happened and making her feel like she has already failed at being the Green Arrow and living in her father’s legacy. Different instruments enter in with strings, brass, a low electronic bass (used more for Mia) and then hammered dulcimer as Dinah tells her that Oliver would be proud of her. Hammered Dulcimer is one of Oliver’s instruments since the pilot and it represents how he would be proud of her as well as continuing on the legacy through his instruments as well as a bow and arrow. Electronics enter which were used both for Archer and the future as William is revealed to have been kidnapped, making Mia live through her brother being kidnapped in both the past and future.
Wlliam’s kidapping brings back everyone who had been on the team including Felicity. As she appears in the bunker, oboe plays the first two notes of the Olicity theme “The One I Love/Convince Him” (2x23, 3x20). Having even part of that theme in their instrument as she appears to come out of her grief for losing the love of her life for the sake of their son is poignant but it is also presented in a happier (major) mood as she brings joy, light, and hope to the team as well to viewers who have missed her presence. As she hugs Diggle and Dinah and greets the team, guitar harmonics (Oliver’s instruments) and harp (Felicity’s instrument) double a pattern from “New Suit” (4x01). At that point, Oliver was discouraged after Lance told him he was responsible for bringing all the darkness into everyone’s life which was one of the reasons he didn’t want to return from his life in Ivy Town. He felt like the only way to fight darkness was to be darkness and he didn’t want to be that type of person anymore. Felicity reminded him that he didn’t have to be that person anymore and that he wasn’t alone. Now years later, Oliver has become a better person and furthermore, inspired a room of heroes to fight for the city, the world, and to bring Oliver’s family back. The oboe plays one more note as Felicity passes Mia signifying their relationship even though Felicity is not aware of it yet. Classic sounding Arrow music starts as Diggle calls them to suit up.
Mia is the one who finds her brother, landing on the roof as her hero theme (7x08) plays in the electric guitar. After the scene transitions back to her from the Flashback fight, string patterns and a low continuing electric bass note crescendos in the music that is very reminiscent of Oliver’s fight music as she chooses to not kill him and make the same decision that Oliver did, following in his footsteps.
Felicity finds out from Sara and Diggle that the young woman she is seeing with William is her daughter. They ask if she wants to meet her but she is a little reluctant since baby Mia is at home. She doesn’t want to rush the fact that she gets to watch Mia grow up. As she processes this, guitar harmonics play a theme from 7x16 when Felicity and Mia reconnect after Mia, Connor and William rescued Felicity. At that point, Mia was angry and confused with her mom who had told her heroic stories of her Dad that conflicted with the villain story the world was telling her. But regardless of hating vigilantes and hating her mom, she started to understand it was for her protection. Felicity told her that she was so much like her father and was proud of her. The theme returned in 8x03 as Mia was confronted with the possibility of losing William, terrified to lose the only family she had left. Now Felicity sees her daughter, a hero who saved younger William. It is a theme of love, connection and a family that had been broken by the loss of Oliver and fear to lose each other, but restored through Oliver’s sacrifice so that William, Mia, and Felicity will have each other in this reality.
Dinah brings Mia’s attention to the news reporting a new Green Arrow, most likely part of a new generations inspired by Oliver. As she hears this, it starts with electronics reminiscent of the future and then adding strings with the first part of Oliver’s Arrow theme moving into something new including high female voices as Dinah reminds Mia that Oliver would be proud of her. It provides an epic quality in the music, a reassurance that Oliver is looking over Mia with an almost otherworldly sound and that she is in fact part of the new generation of heroes, following in her father’s footsteps.
Saying Goodbye
Diggle comes to terms with the fact the mission is in fact over for himself and family in Star City. He meets Dinah and Rene as they share plans for their future as well as saying goodbye to the bunker. He tells them that according to Sara, Oliver became something else as Spectre and so he liked to think Oliver was still with them, watching over them. As he says this, the piano plays Oliver’s slow Arrow theme “I forgot who I was” (1x05) in the manner used for intimate moments for Oliver when he shared his heart for those closest to him, including 6x03 when he thanked Diggle for helping him become the Green Arrrow. Musically, it seemed to confirm that Oliver was watching over them. As these three share about their future, having become better people due to Oliver and each other, and then turning off the lights, a music theme from the flash forwards play (7x10) in high electronics (almost bell like). Originally it was for the Mark of 4, having promised to be there for each other and yet these promises were broken as the team had splintered. It also played when the kids showed up in the bunker in 8x04 as Oliver was trying to process that his grown-up kids were there. Using this theme again as the world has changed and the 8x09 episode showed a brighter future for all of them, returns to that original intent of being there for each other even as they go their separate ways. A version of the Arrow theme plays as the lights go out for the last time.
Quentin gives a speech to honor Oliver and reveal a statue looking over the city. Harp and piano play as it begins with a beautiful and quiet version of Oliver’s hero theme as Quentin thanks everyone for coming and begins by admitting that for a long time he hated Oliver and blamed him for Sara’s death and the violence in the city. The theme changes as strings are added as he talks about how became an honorable man and proof that anyone can change. Oliver wasn’t just a hero but a good man. The theme that plays as the statue is revealed is “United Campaign Speech” (4x04) first heard when Oliver started his campaign as mayor, focusing on the theme of being united and working together. Oliver’s dream in becoming mayor was to save the city in the light and not just in the shadows. Right before he gave his speech (written by Thea), Thea told him the reason they had so many supporters and interns to help was because they believed like she did, that he was going to save the city. He said the same thing in his speech: he returned with one goal to save his city which is possible with the help of friends, family, loved ones, those they trust, and those they need to trust again. This dream may not have come true in way Oliver foresaw, whether it was with the List in the beginning or being mayor in the middle, but ultimately he did save the city which was revealed to be written on the statue as the Arrow theme plays. It became possible because of the people he loved and who loved him back who all stand there to honor this hero, the man who changed their lives.
Everyone gathers at the funeral as different characters interact or meet for the first time. Thea asks Moira why Oliver didn’t bring back Robert as “Sad Moira” (1x10). “Sad Moira” was first heard as its own melody when Oliver checks on Moira after Walter was kidnapped and in similar situations in seasons 1 and 2 when she was missing her children or Walter. Now, Moira is missing both Oliver and Robert as she acknowledges that Oliver would never have become the man he was if it hasn’t been for the loss of Oliver. The theme is also heard as the counter-melody/harmony in “I forgot who I was/Own Worst Enemy” (2x18) which is all about love and loss for the Queen family. It was used in moments for Oliver with Moira, Thea, William, and Emiko. This counter-melody plays one last time as Emiko comes to meet Thea, another proof of Oliver healing his family in a place that had been broken.
Tommy and Laurel meet as Tommy is trying to wrap around his mind of previous realities where he died and the fact that he is meeting his wife’s doppleganger. Tommy and Laurel’s theme “Surprise me” (1x03) plays as he shares that he married Laurel 1 in this life.
Mia meets Felicity for the first time as an adult as high synths and violins play which is used in emotional moments especially with Felicity. There are echoes of a melody like “Honor Memory” (1x02), giving space for the emotions as Mia tells Felicity that she got to meet her dad who taught her how to be a hero as echoes of Oliver’s hero theme are heard.
Felicity asks Diggle to share a few words as they stand around Oliver’s tombstone. Diggle shares that Oliver changed a lot since they met 8 years ago, becoming a better man who inspired all of them, bringing heroes into the world, but most importantly a brother to him. He still recognizes that the mission of hope and justice will continue beyond Star City with Oliver living on in the people he inspired, even though the world is less bright without him in it. He says he doesn’t see what the future holds as glimpses of the future are shown to the audience with Mia returning to the future, Rene running for mayor, and Diggle receiving the Green Lantern ring. The music for this whole speech is “Forgive Us/Goodbye to Roy” (3x19). In the beginning of the theme, Oliver believed Roy was dead and blamed himself, while Diggle and Felicity revealed that it was a ruse to protect Oliver even though Roy would have to be in exile. This was hard for Oliver to accept but Roy was willing to take the fall for the man who saved his life and gave him purpose. It was a theme of saying goodbye and self-sacrifice. Now, it is Oliver who has made the ultimate sacrifice to save all of them. But there is also hope of a future, first for Roy and now for all of the heroes head out on their new journey. Oliver’s hero theme plays in the piano at the end as it focuses on his tombstone: husband, father, brother, son, hero.
The Reunion
As Felicity prepares to leave in the future, the music is sad and full of loss playing “Everyone Left” (5x02). This was used in 7x22 when Felicity, Mia and William were at Oliver’s grave before she left so it makes sense for that to continue as she has been waiting a long time to see Oliver. A high electronic changes locations (almost heavenly) as she walks through. The music is in major (different for a show set in minor) bringing light and happiness with piano and strings as Felicity arrives in a version of the QC office. Harp (Felicity’s instrument) and piano (Oliver’s) play Oliver’s hero theme as she looks at his picture with the red pen in her mouth. It is a quiet intimate, peaceful moment as she turns and sees Oliver smiling at her and the harp quietly plays a repeating note as she greets him and they kiss. Then the Olicity theme “The one I love” (2x23) plays in the cellos as she tells him that this is so nice despite being a little confused that they were in a version of his old office. One of the ways it is made so quietly peaceful is the lack of any movement under the main theme, usually piano or harp moving underneath. Everything is stripped away except their love theme as they see each other for the first time in 20 years. Oliver tells Felicity that he wanted to meet where he first saw her and the flashback from Season 3 is shown. Violins, female voice, and guitar harmonics are added as he continues that they have all the time in the world to tell her about it. Musically having the voice brings memories from 3x20 and 3x23 when they drive away reminding us of Oliver declaring: “I’m happy.” Oliver and Felicity have found peace and happiness as they are reunited with their theme soaring before the Arrow theme plays one last time as the show comes to a close.
Extra Notes and Thank-you:
I decided not to do a deep dive into the Olicity theme since I have done that a lot in the past and this was already crazy long. But for those of you who are interested, I have list of every time the Olicity theme has been used (minus this episode).
https://austencello.tumblr.com/post/182940428674/list-of-olicity-themes
I decided not to review 8x09 at this point. As a back-door pilot, it picks up some older themes like Mia’s theme which occurred a lot but most of it was new which makes it harder to analyze. We shall when/if the show gets picked up whether I will write about the show.
Thanks to all you for your kind words regarding my “Goodbye to Oliver” cello arrangement I made last week. I really appreciate it!
Finishing this is a bit bittersweet. I would never have imagined Oliver’s journey to end up this way (I would never have guessed Olicity would be one of my favorite ships of all times at Season 1) but neither would I have imagined when I started watching this 8 years ago, that I would be analyzing the score for 4 and a half years (103 Arrow Music Notes!), make and meet friends from around the world, interact with Blake Neely on Twitter, arrange the score for cello, work on music collaborations with @jorahandal, and meet a lot of the cast at conventions. It’s been a lot of fun and quite a ride. Thank you to all who have been on part of this journey with me as well as to Blake Neely, Nathaniel Blume and his whole team for creating such great music throughout the seasons.
For of those of you asking what is next...I’m going to take a break from music analysis as my life gets a little busy over the next few months. I’m hoping to shift to a few more arrangements and analysis of some of my favorite Jane Austen and period dramas over the next year or so.

Crack Fanfic!
A few months ago my friend and I wrote some crack Fan fiction. It has like 11 Fandoms. Today I unleash upon you horror. Read at your own risk!
T.V.- Cyclops destroyed downtown National City and that was right by Starling City.
Narrator- Connor Murphy fell out of the plane because Evan kissed Jared.
Mick- This maniac Jared is cronching bathbombs.
Jared- Excuse me. Have you tasted one?
Mick- Who are you to talk to me like that!
Leonard- Boy's have you not noticed these randos kissing!
Winn (Trembling in fear)- That's Nate and Amaya, can I leave now.
Zari- Have you seen... Yeah bye.
Jared (cronching)- What do you think that was about?
Mick- Shut it dweeb.
Jared- Well if he gets to leave I'm out.
Zari- Hey, Dig, thanks for letting me stay here.
Dig- No problem. Can you invite Barry and Felicity over for breakfast?
Zari- No problem. (Dialing) You guys wanna come over for breakfast?
Barry and Felicity- Hell yeah!
Narrator- Meanwhile on the Waverider Sara, Julian, and Winn are having a game night.
Sara- So this is awkward.
Winn- Yeah you guys kissed and I'm Still alone.
Julian and Sara- Who Cares!
Heather Chandler- JD! (Dies)
JD- So how much will this be?
Cashier- $7.11
JD- Night night, Forever.
Narrator- Well that's unfortunate. But let's see what's happening on the Waverider.
Zari- Jared right?
Jared- Who's asking?
Zari- First NEVER talk to me like that and two I heard you like to cronch!
Jared- Yeah
Zari- Wanna have a donut eating contest?
Jared (cronching)- Hell yeah
Narrator- Earlier isaid Connor fell out of a plane. Well guess who he just met.
Connor- Where am I?
Beetlejuice- My favorite restaurant. I once ate a baby whole here.
Connor- Cool
JD- Well I'm here now
Narrator- JD might be gone but Veronica,Martha and all three Heathers managed to get on a cruise. Where they all kissed in a 7-11. On an unrelated note Regina Phalange died after Monica bad Rachel kissedat Ross,Joey, and the secret lesbians wedding
Zari- Nate there you are.
Nate- Z, I'm so sorry about what you saw earlier.
Zari- Nate I don't think I can be with someone who "cheated" kissed another girl.
Nate- Zari. Z. Stop.
Zari- Don't. Just don't. (Nate grabs Zari's arm and kisses her) What. What was that.
Nate- Me never wanting to let you go or lose you. (Nate and Zari make out)
Narrator- Zari kisses Nate while looking through the window at Jared and Beetlejuice kissing JD. Meanwhile at S.T.A.R. Labs Caitlin and Killer Frost are debating.
Killer Frost- If we mix me and heat it will make Barry.
Caitlin- Frost I guarantee you if you mix you and heat it won't make Barry
Killer Frost- Caity trust me it will make Barry.
Caitlin- Frost it won't work. If you need a second opinion here's Cisco. (Cisco walks in) Cisco if Frost and heat mix, will it make Barry?
Cisco- NO. But we can always try.
Killer Frost- Yes.
(Nate and Zari still making out)
Leonard- Lets see what's on television. (Turns on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.) Let's watch it. (Barry walks in) Barry, wanna watch with me?
Barry- Sure. But let me get the other Legends. (All watching HSM: The Musical: The Series. Nate and Zari still making out)

Felicity- Whats happening?
William- Dad is playing my virtual reality listening to Cher and saving children.
T.V.- Breaking news. Glinda kissed Dinah while punching Alexander Hamilton at the graduation party.
Leonard- Why the hell would you turn off our show to show me this.
Beetlejuice- So apparently, this kid Connor Murphy found this kid Evan's shoe at my restaurant then I ate a rock
Kara- Winn stop crying because the guy you like is straight.
Winn- I'm not crying about that!
Kara- Then why are you crying?
Winn- I'm crying because James will go to jail for assulting a minor.
Dig- Where's Curtis
Dinah- He's on the balcony still going at it with Rene.
Narrator- Laurel was screaming out of her ears because Hartley made The Voice a Screaming Potato Network.

Everyone on the Waverider- You good.
Winn- No. No I am not
Alex- That's why no one goes out with you.

Zari- The app bitmoji killed Amaya because she kissed my boyfriend. (Aka Nate)
Jared- Ok beotches, Evan just got Zoe a journal to take notes about who has and has not kissed. So kiss up.
Beetlejuice- We don't need Jared to fly the Waverider to imperial Russia, right?
Narrator- Beetlejuice yeets Jared across the sky, where Curtis and Rene see Bathbombs floating around Jared.
Nate- Well our team just went down 2 members because Sara and Julian beat a pigeon to death that Jared let in.
Evan- JD drinks eyeballs for dinner because he killed so many Heathers and Amaya chucked his boot out the portal. And I want my rock.
Connor- Veronica and Chandler punched a loving squirrel in the basement because he banged Jared and cronched on Zebras.
Caitlin- Penguins invaded Heyworld while the Flash was in the bathroom in Africa.
Beetlejuice- Evan Hansen went to Jitters and found Curtis and Rene making progress on their relationship.
Narrator- Diggle loves shipping Olivarry because his birthday made them interact in love style and Felicity hated Cisco after he shoved her daughter. Lydia texted Jared about Beetlejuice eating a baby at 7-11 and about having sex with a squirrel because her girlfriend and was the Addams oldest and couldn't wait to kill it on the head of the dance.
Ray- Mick Rory set a bomb on fire and laughed as his bestfriend set Zari's donuts and Jared's bathbombs to a flame.
Zari- Bruh, my donuts.
Zoe- Connor kissed Evan behind Jared's back because he thought Jared would choke on a bathbomb and die.
Cisco- Hartley found Caitlin crying on the floor of the Arrowcave because Jared banged a squirrel and choked on the bathbombs.
Wally- Hartley chucked his glasses at Cisco in a loving manner because Barry was being stupid.
Narrator- This is how Jared died.

Leonard- Barry killed Kara because Winn was crying about her going to Cisco's house.
Authors note: Kill me now! Please! First time I read that in months and I'm dying!
