Coffee head canons of the 141 and friends. (I'm not a coffee drinker by any means so please forgive me in advance. I really on drink it socially or if someone wants me to try theirs. I've gotten to TRY a lot of varieties but only on minimum occasions because of friends.)
Price: Yes, black, strong and probably sometimes instant coffee. Ikik.
I think he has a secret soft spot for Lavender Honey lattes. He had one once in a tiny café during leave, sat outside while it rained, and it just did something to him. He won't ever order it in public but will drink it if you bring it to him with a “didn’t know what you liked.” I think he has a French press that he acts like he doesn't care about but keeps clean.
Ghost: Straight espresso shots.
but also dirty chai. Spices and espresso, warm and sensory. I think he relies on energy shots or drinks when he's busy busy though (he's not proud).
Soap: Double shot latte with one sugar and oat milk because it tastes nice
He is also not immune to seasonal drinks and will get a pumpkin flavored cold foam. Social coffee drinker!
Gaz: A flat white. Something nice.
I think he'd like Vietnamese iced coffee too (sua da?) (i got to try some once and mmmmm) That sweetened condensed milk got him hooked. He knows the difference between beans and he cares.
Nik: Something strong and stovetop brewed, with or without sugar. A traditionalist or whtv.
He also likes sweetened condensed milk in his coffee! He has tried so many different coffee preparation methods and traditions and he does have opinions but will never turn a drink down. Will also make people something without being asked.
Alejandro: Classic café con leche---coffee with milk. Drinks it with meals
He also likes frappes, the sweeter the better. I think he has a sweet tooth. (He won't admit it, coward)
Rudy: Café de olla that he learned how to prepare at a young age. :3 He likes it with cinnamon, sometimes an orange peel, and if he's got it on him he'll add piloncillo. (He always makes extra for Ale and brings it in a thermos) (I've had this before and it was hnngngjhghgh mmmm)
Also has the tiniest sweet tooth for a good horchata cold brew, he didn't think he was going to like it,, but he does.
Farah: If she drinks coffee... Turkish coffee strong and unfiltered and in tiny cups. Bc if she's going to do it then it won't be half assed. Alex tries it (bc of course he does) and sees God.
I think she'd also like lattes with cardamom in them. Cozy and homey. But ultimately she's a tea over coffee girly any day.
Alex: Black coffee, got used to it being deployed. He's a traditionalist like that too. I believe this man cannot go without caffeine, so he literally drinks it like water. (my poor baby someone hug him)
I think he'd like cold brews with sweet cream. and he likes to crunch on the ice, so he gets extra.

I met my younger selves for tea service today. (We don’t drink coffee.)
I greeted all of them with platters of scones and tea sandwiches, a variety of pots of tea. I shared with them the state of the world.
14 yr old me, who was voted "most likely to become president", was disappointed that we still had not elected a woman president yet. She was excited that we still wrote stories though.
17 yr old me, who had just finished studying Elie Wiesel's Night, asked how the hell did n*z*s gain popularity again? She then quoted our AP US History teacher... "US democracy is only about 200 years old. We don't know if it actually works. It's still too young." (This quote has always followed me but has haunted me since Nov. 8, 2016.)
20 yr old me, who just had a front row seat to the destruction of the Twin Towers, said to look for the helpers. Be the helpers.
27 yr old me, in grad school when the recession happened, said she hope I was still baking. I tell her I've delved into sourdough and she said she's not sure how she feels about that. I tell her it's not superior to the yeasted bread recipe she's been using for over a decade, but it's very good in a different way. I tell her our cheesecake is still phenomenal though. She nodded her approval.
Then she said, "fuck the patriarchy".
32 yr old me, a new mother, both hands cupping her chai, was unsure of what to do with herself without her child. I tell her it will be OK. You are doing your best. You really need to get some sleep though. But she asks "How? He never sleeps." And I squeeze her hand and tell her, this will pass.
35 yr old me, a mother again, asks why she should go on knowing what I know now. I tell her because there is still love in this world. Because there are people that love you and that you love. There is still joy in the world, despite the dumpster fire. You really need sleep. And therapy. But mostly sleep.
40 yr old me, right in the middle of COVID, said, "Are you fucking kidding me?! How the fuck did he get elected again?! What the actual fuck?" And I explain that there were things set in motion probably before we were born and the right conditions have allowed those things to align to fruition. Then she said, "Well what are we doing about it?"
We fight. We call and write our senators and congress people and remind them that the legislative branch is supposed to check the executive branch. We protest where we can. We support local. We educate where we can. Resistance comes in many forms.
We fight for our younger selves. Be the hero your younger self would look up to. Be the person your younger self wanted to grow up to be.
We end brunch with a sing along (because that's what theater kids do). Seasons of Love followed by Do You Hear the People Sing?
I hugged all of them, which was weird for all of us (younger versions of me wasn't hugged very much so there was a learning curve).
And I leave with the fire of my younger selves fueling me to fight another day.

"Saying 'chai tea' is silly! You wouldn't say 'tea tea'!"
Except that yes we absolutely would and do, frequently, use words that mean the same thing to specify a specific variety of that thing. It doesn't even have to be two different words. A "fancy party' and a "fancy fancy party" are two different things. This is a common thing in English and, so far as I'm aware, many other languages as well.
(I believe there is a specific term for this ligual quirk but I do not remember it and can't find the big post I saw one time explaining it.)

smell is IMPORTANT. if you smell good, you appear more attractive (in my opinion) and the order you are washing yourself + applying smell goods matter also
first, bar soap. i recommend the dove sensitive skin bar soap, but people are like anti bacterial soaps also! wash your whole body with this before anything!
second, body scrub. i recommend only doing this twice a week max, maybe three. i really like the dove body scrubs (formerly body polishes) because they aren’t very grainy but still get the job done!
third, body wash. make sure the body wash you are using pairs with the body mist and perfume you are using later. i really like the native body washes and the dove body washes. DO NOT USE THIS ON YOUR PRIVATES!!!!
fourth, deodorant. only apply to clean skin, and make sure your armpits are completely dry before applying!
fifth, body lotion. just like the body wash, make sure your lotion pairs well with the scent of your body wash, body mist, and perfume, ALSO DO NOT APPLY THIS TO PRIVATES!!!!! apply to damp skin. this locks in moisture and makes your skin soft and hydrated. the eos body lotions smell so good and are very moisturizing!
sixth, body oil. oil should be applied after lotion, it locks in all of the moisture that the lotion is giving you. body oil makes a huge difference in your routine. once again, match this scent to any other scented products you are using. DO NOT APPLY THIS TO PRIVATES!!!!
seventh, body mist. apply directly after oil to ensure it stays (don’t be dumb, i shouldn’t have to tell you were to not apply it again) i like using anywhere from 5-7 sprays, but if it is strong smelling, maybe around 3-4!
eighth, perfume. this should always be the last step because it is what you want to smell most. it doesn’t need to be designer, as long as it smells good. the ariana grande perfumes are more on the cheaper side for perfumes, and the sabrina carpenter ones also smell very good and are the cheaper side of perfumes. apply this on the back of your neck, you want your scent trailing behind you, you want people to know it is you that is smelling so good. also apply it below the wrist, DO NOT RUB TOGETHER. your wrist touches everything, so do not apply to the wrist, it will wear off quickly. i like to add 1 spray to my chest but that is optional! i applied it like this and i could smell myself all day!
remember, if the laundry detergent you use doesn’t smell good, then neither do you!
here are some scent combos i recommend (only includes body mist and perfume, maybe some body wash and body scrub but i do not have the widest variety of those!)
combo #1
native sugar cookie body wash, victoria secret bare vanilla body mist, and ariana grande mod vanilla perfume.
combo #2
bath and body works gingham gorgeous body lotion, victoria secret velvet pedals candied body mist, and victoria secret bombshell seduction perfume.
combo #3
dove spiced chai latte body wash, victoria secret bare vanilla body mist, and viva la juicy perfume.
combo #4
dove pomegranate seeds and shea butter body scrub, pink warm and cozy body mist, and carolina herrera good girl blush elixer perfume.
combo #5
native sugar cookie body wash, victoria secret bare vanilla body mist, and eilish no.1 perfume.
combo #6
bath and body works gingham gorgeous body lotion, victoria secret warm and cozy body mist, and sabrina carpenter sweet tooth perfume.
combo #7
bath and body works gingham gorgeous body lotion, victoria secret warm and cozy body mist, and ariana grande sweet like candy perfume.
i hope this helps!

Rowan's 2024 Tea Wrapped ☕️🫖
Oh hey it's that time again! How much tea did I drink in 2024? I'm so glad you asked!
Overall, I drank 568 cups of 87 different varieties of tea last year, which is approximately 3.75 lbs of loose-leaf tea!
I drank 404 cups of black tea, 47 cups of green tea, 20 cups of white tea, and 97 cups of herbal tea.
My top 10 teas accounted for about 38% of my total tea consumption for the year.
Rowan's Top 10 Teas of 2024:
#1 - Spicy Seattle Chai from Market Spice (24 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black spiced tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 4-5 minutes, add honey and cream to taste. I don't brew this one in the traditional way, because I don't have the patience. This is one of my all-time favorite teas, and a staple of my Autumn/Winter collection. So good. 5/5
#2 - Vanilla with Lavender from Lovejoy's (23 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 3-4 minutes, add honey to taste, good with or without cream. A delightful lightly-floral tea and staple of my year-round collection. 5/5
#2 - Connoisseur Blend from Market Spice (23 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 3-4 minutes, honey and cream optional. To be honest, the reason I drank so much of this one last year is because it was getting older and I wanted to use it up, but it is a good standard black tea that is also good iced in the summer, with or without additional flavors. I have since replaced it with Taylors of Harrogate's Afternoon Darjeeling. 4/5
#4 - Passionfruit from Market Spice (22 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 3-4 minutes, add honey to taste. This was another one I was trying to use up this year because it was getting older. To be honest, it's just average, though it makes a decent iced tea in the summer. I have since replaced it with one from Adagio that has a better flavor. 3/5
#5 - Jasmine from Market Spice (21 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this green tea + 12 oz. 170ºF water, brewed for 2-3 minutes, add honey to taste. As with most of my floral teas, I used to only drink this one in the Spring and Summer, but it has become a staple of my year-round collection. I'm not usually a fan of green teas, but this one is excellent. It is light and pleasant when I don't want something as strong as a black tea. I experimented last summer with trying it iced, but it did not really work for me. 4/5
#6 - Apricot from Market Spice (20 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 3-4 minutes, add honey to taste. This was another one I was trying to use up this year because it was getting older. Much like Market Spice's passionfruit, it's just average. I generally used it to make iced tea in the summer. I am still searching for a really good apricot tea. 3/5
#7 - Cherry Almond from Lovejoy's (18 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 3-4 minutes, add honey and cream to taste. I spent a lot of time last year trying to use up teas and get them out of my collection, didn't I? This one wasn't old; I just wasn't happy with it, and it appears to have been discontinued. I have since replaced it with Adagio's cherry marzipan oolong, which is excellent. 3/5
#8 - Earl Grey Lavender from Adagio (17 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 2-3 minutes, add honey to taste, good with or without cream. I love an Earl Grey, and this one has been a staple of my year-round collection for quite some time. I've run out for now, and am experimenting with other Earl Grey blends, but I am sure I will buy more eventually. 4/5
#9 - Chocolate Raspberry Pu-ehr from the Lolo Sweets Barn (16 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 3-4 minutes, add honey and cream to taste. This one has long been a household favorite and staple of my Autumn/Winter collection, but it has sadly been discontinued. Fortunately, I have managed to find a suitable replacement in Lovejoy's delightful chocolate raspberry tea. 4/5
#10 - Irish Whiskey Cream from Tea & Absinthe (15 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 3-4 minutes, add honey and cream to taste. This is a rising star of my Autumn/Winter collection, and a new household favorite. If you are a fan of Irish Cream liqueurs, you will love this tea. 5/5
#10 - Monk's Earl Grey from Ilomaa Forest Farm (15 cups) - 1 heaping teaspoon of this black tea + 12 oz. boiling water, brewed for 2-3 minutes, add honey to taste, good with or without cream. A twist on the traditional Earl Grey, with added floral and spice flavors. It looks like this one is only available in Canada, so we probably won't be getting more anytime soon, but it is very nice. 4/5

While the purity of Camellia Sinensis is a marvel in itself, the world of tea extends far beyond the simple leaf that is often called a True Tea. Let's talk about flavor-infused tea.
Tumblr media
Infused tea
The practice of infusing tea with flavors dates back centuries, with evidence of flavored teas found in ancient Chinese and Indian cultures. Early methods of infusion involved adding herbs, spices, or flowers directly to the tea leaves during steeping. Over time, more sophisticated techniques were developed, such as extracting essential oils from aromatic plants and adding them to the tea.
Today, infused teas are typically created using one of two methods:
Direct Infusion: The most common method involves adding dried herbs, spices, or fruits directly to the tea leaves before steeping. This allows the flavors to infuse naturally into the tea, creating a harmonious blend.
Flavoring Oils: Essential oils extracted from aromatic plants can be added to the tea after steeping. This method allows for precise control over the intensity of the flavor and can be used to create subtle or bold infusions.
One of the most renowned flavor-infused teas is Earl Grey, a black tea infused with the fragrant oil of bergamot orange. The citrusy notes of bergamot dance harmoniously with the rich, full-bodied flavor of black tea, creating a truly exquisite beverage. Earl Grey is a versatile tea that can be enjoyed hot or iced, and it pairs well with a variety of foods.
Aside from Earl Grey, the world of flavor-infused teas is vast and varied. From the delicate floral notes of jasmine tea to the bold fruity flavors of berry teas, there is a flavor combination to suit every palate.
Tumblr media
Pictured above: (top) Jasmine infused green tea from Fujian Tea Import & Export Co., (bottom) Blood Orange herbal tea from Harney & Sons Fine Teas. [Blend: Apple pieces, rose hips, hibiscus, beetroot, orange peel, orange flavor, marigold petals, safflower petals.]
Some of the other popular flavor-infused teas include:
Jasmine Tea: A green tea infused with jasmine flowers, offering a delicate floral aroma and a slightly sweet taste.
Chai Tea: A black tea spiced with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, creating a warm and comforting blend.
Fruit Teas: A variety of teas infused with fruit flavors, such as strawberry, raspberry, or peach, providing a sweet and tangy taste.
Fruit teas are excellent for cold-brewed iced tea. I will cover cold-brewing later, so please look forward to that.
When choosing a flavor-infused tea, consider your personal preferences and the occasion. A delicate floral tea might be perfect for a relaxing afternoon, while a bold and spicy chai tea could be a comforting choice on a cold day.
The choice of infusion depends on the desired flavor profile and the characteristics of the ingredients being used. For example, delicate floral flavors may be best achieved using direct infusion, while strong, bold flavors can be created using flavoring oils.
If you wish to create your own infused tea, that will have to be a separate post. For now, it is enough to be able to identify the tea you are brewing so that you can handle it appropriately.
Brewing infused teas requires a balance of technique and intuition. First, identify the ingredients. When brewing a cup of tea, it's good to know what temperature and length of time to steep your tea for.
A tea labeled "Peach" may be a white tea with peach flavoring, and it may be best to brew it at a temperature appropriate for white tea. Blends may consist of varying ingredients that require different temperatures, so some experimentation may be in order to find the best brewing temperature to get the most of each flavor.
Tumblr media
Herbal tea
Beyond the True Tea, there lies a world of herbal teas, each offering a unique blend of flavors and health benefits. Herbal teas are made from a variety of plants, including herbs, spices, and fruits. They are often enjoyed for their medicinal properties, as well as their delicious taste.
As no part of an herbal tea contains the Camellia Sinensis plant, these teas are not considered "True Teas". That does not mean we cannot enjoy them, however.
For the most part, an herbal tea will not contain any caffeine, unlike the tea produced from the Camellia Sinensis plant. This makes them more suitable to enjoy in the evening or late hours.
Tumblr media
Pictured above: (from top to bottom) Roses, honeysuckle, chrysanthemums, mint and lavender.
Some popular herbal teas include:
Chamomile Tea: Made from chamomile flowers, this tea is known for its calming and relaxing properties.
Peppermint Tea: Made from peppermint leaves, this tea is refreshing and aids digestion.
Ginger Tea: Made from ginger root, this tea is warming and can help soothe an upset stomach.
Hibiscus Tea: Made from hibiscus flowers, this tea has a tart, fruity flavor and is rich in antioxidants.
As with many blends, it is helpful to experiment a little with the temperature and steep time to get the most of your tea. Intuition will follow experience.
Tumblr media
The ideal steeping temperature for infused teas and herbal teas can vary depending on the specific ingredients and desired flavor intensity. However, here are some general guidelines:
Delicate floral or fruity teas: 175-185°F (79-85°C)
Bold, spicy teas: 195-212°F (90-100°C)
Herbal teas: 175-212°F (79-100°C), depending on the specific herbs used
Serving suggestions: Cream is usually not served with fruit teas, as the acidity in some will cause the milk to curdle. Lemon slices are commonly served with Earl Grey, however, as with the fruit tea, lemon can also cause cream to curdle. Sugar or honey are appropriate for nearly any tea.
It's always a good idea to experiment with different temperatures to find the perfect brew for your taste. I hope this has been informational and helpful to my students who wish to become better acquainted with tea.

A girly pop's guide to hosting an at home coffee shop day ⋆౨ৎ˚⟡.•
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Between the social appeal of coffee shops and the delectable treats and beverages they offer, a coffee shop date is always a go-to with friends. Sometimes I wish I could take all my friends out for coffee at once, but coffee shops aren't built to accommodate that. However, you know what is? Your own home! Recreating a coffee shop at home is a fun way to host your friends and enjoy all the luxuries of a coffee shop.
Here’s my idea for the perfect setup and execution for an at-home coffee shop gathering:
The Setup:
⋆˙⟡ On a large counter, island, or table, setting up a cute tablecloth and doilies for your coffee machine is essential.
⋆˙⟡ Have various coffee mugs and glasses neatly arranged for your guests to use.
⋆˙⟡ Additionally, have small, cute jars with various sugar packets, little spoons, and straws (glass ones are eco-friendly and aesthetic! Paper straws are also an adorable way to add pattern and character to the drinks).
⋆˙⟡ Ask everyone to bring their own milk or creamer. This way, everyone's preferences and allergies are accommodated, and it’s also a great opportunity to try different milks and creamers. The drink options are endless—like an open bar, but for coffee!
⋆˙⟡ Depending on your coffee machine, have coffee beans, pods, or similar items in a container tied with a ribbon. You can also include chai or matcha for variety.
⋆˙⟡ Embellish the table with flowers and other miscellaneous trinkets to add character.
⋆˙⟡ For pastries, a cake stand is ideal for displaying treats, but a cute plate with a patterned napkin underneath also works.
⋆˙⟡ Baking the pastries together can be a fun activity to add to the event, if you choose!
⋆˙⟡ Creating a fake menu to put on the wall is a sweet addition and ties the event together!
Activities:
⋆˙⟡ Crafting: Everyone can bring their preferred craft supplies or you can provide collaging materials. Chat, craft, and sip!
⋆˙⟡ Book Club: Have everyone read the same book before the event so you can discuss it over a cute beverage.
⋆˙⟡ Coloring: Similar to crafting, guests can bring their favorite coloring books or you can print out coloring sheets that match the day’s theme, like a coffee shop coloring sheet.
(This can even become a monthly ritual to catch up with friends, set new monthly goals together, or even align with moon phases!)
Ambiance:
⋆˙⟡ Music: Play upbeat tunes, as real coffee shops always have lively music! I’ve attached a playlist that might fit the event below.
⋆˙⟡ Visuals: Have something on the TV or a projector (preferably with the sound off). This could be a girly movie, a visually appealing YouTube video, or even a fake yule log.
⋆˙⟡ Lighting: Lots of natural light is a must. Additionally, candles and warm-toned lamps will make the space cozy.
⋆˙⟡ Seating: A table setup for guests is ideal, but you can also arrange pillows for alternative seating. If possible, set the table with placemats, a stack of books, and a flower vase in the middle. Tea light candles and scattered dried fruit or flowers will add a gorgeous touch.
Attire:
⋆˙⟡ Encourage everyone to dress cozy and cute! Having a similar vibe will really bring the event together. You can include this in the invite (digital invites are cute and make the event feel more special).

*Long story short I decided to just share this for now. Is it my best work? Not even close. If anyone wants the continuation version where they go to the lake after, I'll be happy to continue it! Knowing me it will contain a ton of Marecal, Gisa and Olivia exploring more of their crushes on each other and cute moments with the dog so hey🤷🏼‍♀️ if you're into that let me know!*

Marecal and Gisa Crush AU:
Cal drove while “Hot To Go” blasted through the car speakers. Of course he got stuck with driving three teenage girls around for a day out. Gisa and Olivia danced in the backseat while Mare scrolled on her phone and sang the words under her breath taking up the passenger. He didn’t mind the song, the girls made him do a TikTok with them to it and he was all smiles. Liv worked for Cal’s grandmother for years, she and him basically grew up together. She’s like his little sister, especially now that he’s out of the palace and he was able to get her a place across town. They’ve been able to have easier interactions apart from just when he’s visiting Nonabel. Mare has taken a liking to her, and evidently Gisa definitely has with the way they instantly clicked and exchange glances toward each other suggesting more than normal friendship feelings. The car shakes as the vibrations of the music turn everyone into the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, dancing their hearts out as the girls laugh and sing along. Roz, the German shepherd puppy in the boot of the car happily peers over the seats to watch. It only takes a while for them to get to the market.
It’s an alley-like opening leading to rows of shops and produce suppliers, a lot of places to sell food of different varieties. Many sounds overlap each other. Crowds in different conversations, laughing, food sizzling on grills, cars passing by outside the street, Olivia already talking about the boba stall. “I haven’t had boba in so long, I actually need it now before I suffer from lack of tapioca pearls.”
“It’s been two days!” Gisa laughs.
“That’s the equivalent of a lifetime when it comes to boba.”
With how many ovens there are in an enclosed space, the market heats up fast. In reality the weather is chilly but as soon as you walk through the alley a bit you can start to feel your skin warming like a day in the sun. Mare has on a black and white bandana-patterned top that simply wraps around her neck with no sleeves paired with dark jeans. Gisa has a lightweight long-sleeve on filled with light browns and greens. Her curly hair is pulled up into a voluminous ponytail, bouncing with every step she takes.
“You got money?” Cal asks Liv, one hand holding onto Roz’s leash.
“Yeah I brought my wallet this time. We splitting up?”
Mare takes over, happily continuing on further to get to the boba stall. “No, we can stay together. Make a double date out of it.” She winks and Gisa blushes, nudging Mare with her elbow.
The bubble tea shop is on the corner of a turn right next to a ramen shop and custom popcorn bar. That rich, buttery smell of popcorn overtakes the corridor even near the sushi bar. It’s like a movie theater without the movie. The boba store has an oil diffuser going to try to battle the scent but it’s practically useless for everyone but the workers; only managing to make it smell like kernel scented lavender. Gisa got brown sugar bubble tea and Liv got strawberry, Mare got a blackberry smoothie and Roz got a small cup of whipped cream. Cal tries to sip some from Mare’s drink and she immediately swats him away. “You said you didn’t want one!”
“I just want to try it!”
“Get your own then!”
They continue their banter, fighting like they hate each other even with the smiles they have and their interlocked fingers saying otherwise.
Making their way to the normal shopping district the air is cloudy from the smoke of the grills smelling like charred meat and sizzling oil. It clears up the more they follow through but stays when they pass into a small business trinkets shop across the street from a taco bar. Olivia takes Gisa’s hand and leads her to handmade jewelry, holding up gold teardrop earrings. “These are pretty, you’d like nice in them!” She says, holding up the pair for Gisa to see.
“There’s a matching set, one silver and one gold, should we get them?” Gisa smiles, holding up the matching silver pair. There was just enough room on her ear to get a normal piercing for her interchangeable jewelry apart from the stones her brothers gave her when they got conscripted. She still likes the extra earrings, that means extra bling. That’s not the only reason, of course, but each jewel gives her another part of her story to tell.
The shop is filled with many different eclectic pieces - most handmade - from jewelry to plushies and shirts to flags. It smells like dust even when the colors look bright and youthful. Cal is looking at a little leather purse near the entrance. “Would you wear this?” He asks Mare, her smoothie in his hand ever since she let him have a sip and he decided he liked it.
“Maybe, or we could take it to Farley. I’m sure someone at the guard could use something like that.”
By the time they leave Mare and Cal got a few bags to take to the guard and stuffed animals for the nursery; Gisa stocked up on embroidered patches to include in her designs and shipments. The matching earrings were worn immediately after being bought, the girls switching out their current jewelry to the new ones. “March and Mex?” Mare asks. It’s one of her favorite places to get her favorite food. She would travel hours for their steak tacos, she even once said she loved them more than Cal as a joke. That she would trade him in for just one cup of the Mex’s sauces.
“Should I get a burrito or just a taco?” Cal asks on the way.
“The way you eat, probably a burrito.” Mare smiles. Grouped fans line the top of the walls to try to keep the temperature down in the food court making the space even more muffled with the loud whooshing from above. Every corner of the market has space for tables. Some are occupied by couples or friends eating and others are playing cards on the stained wood seats. This station in particular is lined with graffiti. After ordering, they make their way to a little table in the corner fitting four in front of a floor-to-ceiling colorful portrait of a cityscape. The wood is slightly chipped, dirty from its last occupant. Mare sweeps away the crumbs whole Cal settles Roz under the table out of the way from those passing by. Behind the wall is a hot wings stand she’s smelling so he has to make sure the leash is secure.
“You think it warmed enough for the lake yet?” Gisa asks, mixing around her salad. Liv got a bowl, Cal got his burrito and Mare is too busy already enjoying her beloved tacos to answer.
“It should’ve, it should be one of the last good days to go before it gets too cold.” Cal says.

How to Make it Through to the End of the School Year
I myself am pushing through to the end of my spring semester (gotta make it to finals week 😅) and it's rough, for sure. I'm rounding out my junior year of college and it's quickly hitting me that after this, I'll only have one more year left of school (as of right now).
I know I listed in the bio of this blog that there would be advice/study tips and while I am no expert, I can speak from my experience and what has worked for me. DIsclaimer: everyone is different and what I may or may not list here is not a cure-all for everyone, this is just how I stay productive and efficient.
Taking breaks! - I struggle a lot with recognizing my limits and taking healthy breaks so I can work best. Recently, a friend and I have been having outside study times ("picnics") where we sit and do some work and/or color. One evening, we even made chai lattes on the lawn to have while we colored. Personally, I love simple coloring books (like Disney, but I'm currently working in a Bluey book). Also, this past weekend, I made time in between my textbook readings to rewatch a favorite movie of mine, Ella Enchanted. I haven't taken the proper time to watch TV in a while, so it was a nice change of pace.
Properly eating and hydrating - This is also something I struggle with. I understand how easy it is to get hyperfocused and forget about food in the midst of studying. I am thankful to have a girlfriend who will check in on me when she can to make sure my water bottle is filled if I have been busy throughout the day, but I have also set an alarm on my laptop to ding every 20 minutes. I'm using the Google Chrome extension "Water Reminder", which has been super helpful for me! It's not super cutesy and aesthetic like other Chrome extensions, but I like the simple ding that reminds me to drink water in case I haven't in a while. Hearing a reminder to drink water also allows me to check in with myself to see how I'm feeling in terms of hunger. I try to schedule meals times specifically for myself so that I can remember to eat. Some people are really great about intuitive eating, but I am unfortunately not one of those people. Keeping track of the time and keeping meals times at 7:30 - 8:00 am (breakfast), 11:00 am - 12:00 pm (lunch), and 5:00 pm (dinner/supper), I find it easier to keep up with eating so that I can stay healthy and nourished.
Studying - probably a more obvious "tip", but with my own addition. I like to romanticize the idea of studying. I use specifically colored pens, marker, and highlighters to make each of my notes in class and outside of class to keep myself focused. I love things that are artsy and colorful, so using lots of colors keeps my attention on the material.
Self care - I love face masks, body lotion, and moisturizers. I can't afford the super expensive skincare that you see on TIkTok and Instagram, but I have found some products that work well for me. I like the non abrasive Neutrogena face wash, Nivea body lotion (with shea butter - this also helped heal my tattoos!), and peach slices acne patches (my current lifesavers). Freeman is a brand that makes some really good face masks that have worked for my somewhat senstiive skin and they have a good variety so that you can find what you may be looking for you. They're an inexpensive brand (I think) that works pretty well. Even my sister who is into cosmetology and skincare and knows all the nitty gritty details about what ingredients are good recommended the brand to me so I definitely love to use those when I can (no more than twice a week, though; no need to wear down my face)
Get a study buddy - if you're like me and you find it easier to be productive with another body around, see if you can find someone to study with you or to at least hang around you while you work. As I saif before, a friend and I have been having little picnics outside in the nice weather to work, but I have also met up with others in a library space or a study room to keep myself prodcutive. Some days, I am really productive on my own and in my room, but other days, I really need a change of scenery. Being outside of the space where my lovely bed is and having someone else bear witness to how productive or not I am being is certainly a motivator.
I may discover new habits that can help me as I progress through the next month, but as of right now, these are the main things that are helping me.

sometimes i think about the fact that barbatos is always inviting mc over to try new tea or always brews some when they have business at the castle
and then i think about the fact that I don't like tea irl... just agua de jamaica if that counts, and sweet tea mixed with lemonade 🤣
I wonder if it'd make him more eager to find one that you do like, or if he'd try to accommodate you if you really don't like it and serve something else.
Honestly, the way I am, I might've sucked it up for him and drank it anyway to not be rude ajsjdk. Like for example, I can't eat strawberries because the seeds throw me off texture wise, but my coworker/friend made me chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's, and you best believe I managed to eat 2/4 because I wasn't about to turn down a gift LMAO
- ✨ anon
Yo of course agua de jamaica counts! As does the sweet tea mixed with lemonade (also known as an Arnold Palmer and also is good spiked with vodka~).
I have opinions on this lol. I make my own agua de jamaica, but it's kind of just whatever I thought sounded good so it's not exactly authentic. But the base is hibiscus tea. That is still very much tea. I cold brew mine with loose petals, a stick of cinnamon and a whole piece of star anise... and of course a ton of sugar and a lil bit of honey. But if you look it up, the recipes can vary greatly, but they all have hibiscus tea!
Sweet tea is the same thing - it's just black tea with a butt load of sugar.
I love them both and while I prefer the cold brew method, most traditional recipes call for brewing the tea hot first. And then chilling it in the fridge or with ice. Which is basically the exact same thing as regular tea - it's leaves that are steeped in boiling water. That part's the same!
The thing you might be liking about these two cold varieties is the sugar. Both of them have a high sugar content! So if you don't like drinking hot tea straight (as is often the method in the US), you might like it more if it was made into a tea latte or just had milk and sugar added to it.
I think Barbatos would probably start by trying different things. He might make you a matcha tea latte, which is also quite a different flavor. He might just make you some milk tea. I absolutely headcanon that Barbatos makes his own boba so you know he could just whip you up a bubble tea with boba at any time. Taro is my favorite flavor, but there are so many to choose from!
He might try just making you regular tea with milk and sugar added to it. He might try different blends - regular black tea is pretty boring, but add some cinnamon and cardamom (and other spices) to some Darjeeling and now you've got chai instead, which is delicious. Maybe he makes you a London Fog which is an Earl Grey latte. Maybe he goes with the green tea, which has a more subtle flavor. If you like agua de jamaica, you might like floral teas. Perhaps he gives you some jasmine green tea or some rose or lavender teas. These are all human world variants (because that is what I know... and yeah I know a lot about it lol), so he'd probably also try some Devildom types as well.
If you really don't like any of his offerings, I think he would make something different just for you. Barbatos cares a lot about MC's enjoyment of what he makes. So I don't think he'd want you to just power through something you don't like out of politeness. He would notice right away and call you out on it and then make you something else.
I think Barbatos might be able to find some other teas that you enjoy, but even if he never manages it, I think he would accept that.
He would just be sure to always have a batch of agua de jamaica or sweet tea and lemonade ready for when you come over.
