One of my summer resolutions is to get back into listening to more fiction podcasts that I haven't heard yet. Under the line will be a complete list of podcasts I have listened to or am currently listening to (I will specify) and I'm gonna color code the names based off how much I liked them and I'd love it if y'all could suggest shows based off of that, thank you :)
Green = favorite

"The old man tells him how attractive war can be at the beginning. Debts, robberies, loans, contracts: war burns up every piece of paper. For some it’s like an amnesty, for others a chance at revenge.
Then houses start to burn with the children inside and everyone loses."
— Erri De Luca, Three Horses

Just learned that Major Mike Sadler died last week on the 4th at 103 years of age. He was the last surviving founding member of the SAS and the last survivor of the Long Range Desert Group. Rest In Peace, legendary sir.

Many of you may have been introduced to his story through Stephen Knight’s SAS: Rogue Heroes

🔥🔥 -slides in- 😏
@schattenmagier // what catches the wary man's eyes, what silences his typical lies? // not accepting.
There's something to be said about being able to whittle away the hours of a day towards turning something you're a decent hand at into true mastery. Mastering a flourish or a stance as a student of the sword, tempering iron or steel as a blacksmith into a perfectly balanced shield, tripping the tumblers on a lock that would've had the rogue you were a week ago thoroughly stumped-- these are the accomplishments that distinguish the deft from the nameless dead, even if only to themselves.
Would be easier said than done if his thoughts were turned more towards actually improving his craft, rather than towards the rogue of whom said craft often went to the aid of during their joint ventures together. Soot furrows his brow as both shells of his casing slide apart rather than cinch together, and the pile of black powder spilling out onto the table seems to mock him for his short attention.
Not hard to find fault there, but not helpful either. Not when Lilli's smile is to blame for the mess in the first place, distracting thing that it is. Namely the one she adopts when she thinks she has one up on him, a curve of the mouth upwards and a smug light in those blue eyes of hers in the moments just before poking him with her sharp tongue.
That being the current cause of death for his craftsmanship. Along with the occasional reminder of her toned legs.

1994
[Give me a year and I'll give you my favourite films / suggestions]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a 1994 Australian road comedy film written and directed by Stephan Elliott. The plot follows three drag queens, played by Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp (whose character is a transgender woman), as they journey across the Australian Outback from Sydney to Alice Springs in a tour bus that they have named "Priscilla", along the way encountering various groups and individuals. The film was a surprise worldwide hit and its positive portrayal of LGBT individuals helped to introduce LGBT themes to a mainstream audience." Somehow this film manages to be completely realistic (this wasn't an easy time!) and incredibly sweet. I love it
Heavenly Creatures is a Peter Jackson film based on the 1954 Parker-Hulme murder case, that "blends elements of movie genres like biography, period, thriller, crime, horror, romance, psychological drama, fantasy and dark comedy". It's unforgettably fucked up, the visuals are out of this world. As for Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey, who in their feature film debuts no less had to portray two obsessive teenage murderers, they did GREAT.

And most of these are rogue-related one way or another, though Il Postino is not, it's just a fantastic film. I think the only one that needs a note is The Last Seduction: it's a classic 90s neo-noir / erotic thriller, a genre that's arguably bad, but like good bad. I kinda miss it, on account that it's got bad people doing bad things and often getting away with it, all while being hot, and terrible.
Pulp Fiction
The Crow
Natural Born Killers
Léon (Léon: The Professional)
The Shawshank Redemption
The Last Seduction
Il postino (The Postman)
Ed Wood
Il mostro (The monster)
