Thrawn looked down at his left hand, clenching it as though he could still feel the phantom of Eli's calloused hand in his from days before. It had been warm, but humans ran warmer than Chiss. That was a biological fact. Chiss were able to sustain far cooler temperatures, though they were capable of handling intense heat as well, their bodies simply more adaptable to extremes.
Beside him in the cockpit of their transport, Ezra hummed, directing his question behind them. “So why, exactly, don’t you want me to come with you guys?” His tone indicated it was nice to speak Basic for a change.
“It’s for your best interest.” The left corner of Eli’s lips lifted in a half-smile, and there was something amused in the gaze he gave Thrawn. “I don’t think my contact would do anything, but,” Deep brown eyes met luminous red.
Thrawn said, “Krennic is dead.”
Eli nodded, and Ezra calmly steered their shuttle into the bay they’d been given by the control tower that overlooked the port. A moment later, Eli mused, “Yes, he knows.”
“And he doesn’t like the Emperor, therefore this should not even be a consideration.”
Ezra looked over his shoulder, seeking clarification. “How many ex-Imps do the Chiss employ, exactly?”
“The question you mean to ask is ‘How many Imps did Thrawn ship off to the Ascendancy,’ and the answer is two.” There was humor in his gaze and his voice as he added, “Be grateful you’re stuck with me."
Thrawn didn’t laugh, but his quiet huff was as good as. For Ezra’s benefit, he said, “I doubt Brierly Ronan would sell him out to the Empire.”
“I told you he still calls me ‘the traitor,’ right?”
Thrawn swiveled the co-pilot’s chair around to face Eli, who stood, leaning casually against the hatch. “Yes,” The Chiss said. “However, as I've said, he doesn’t like the Emperor which should make him an ally.”
“I think I also told you he’s attached to House Chaf?” The look on the human’s face was flat as he argued back. “As in, he's the very publicly recognized liaison to Formbi, who even more publicly despises your brother?”
“Surely Syndic Chaf’orm’bintrano would not appreciate such an indelicate statement, Captain,” Thrawn all but crooned. “Besides, my service to our military negates any benefits I would receive from my house.”
“Right,” Eli agreed, both sarcastic and reluctant, all at once. He was all too aware of a multitude of situations - not just Thrawn’s own - that might suggest otherwise. “Regardless, Ezra is staying in the ship for his safety, on the off chance, well,” He broke off, admitting, “I don’t think Ronan’s about to try and contact anyone, but consider it a favor to me and keep an eye on the ship, okay?”
Ezra scoffed as he activated the landing gear and methodically toggled the brake and shut down protocols to begin as necessary. Eli might have total control over the Navigators, but Ezra had one final card to play: Ezra was no Navigator, and he answered to Thrawn. He tried not to think about the vast number of close friends who would be very concerned for his mental state at the thought as he said, “No offense, but you’re not my boss.”
“Fine,” Eli said, turning away from them to toggle the door hatch. He didn’t lose that casual-confidence Thrawn now associated with him, even with their mission starting. “I’ll go alone.” He stepped out.
“You will not.” Thrawn looked at Ezra, who sulked with a shift of his lips. “Bridger will stay on the ship,” He called louder, addressing his fellow captain’s retreating back.
“If I didn’t know better,” Ezra murmured slyly, leaning back to cross his legs and prop them up on the dash, much to Thrawn’s displeasure, “I’d think Captain Ivant is just trying to get you alone.” He waggled his eyebrows.
“You are insufferable,” The Chiss hissed in reply. It seemed the prospect of being behind bothered him more than he realized.
“But I might be right.” Ezra sang in a buzzing hum.
“We are professionals, on a mission from our Admiral,” Thrawn insisted. “That is not what this is.”
“Riiiiight,” Ezra drawled, “And I’m a Sith Lord.” He met Thrawn’s glower with a dull expression. “Call it what you want, but you better catch up with him before he leaves you behind for real. I’ll keep the ship company like a good aide.”
Thrawn did lengthen his stride, noticing Eli waiting for him in the open doorway of the building that lay on the outskirts of the docking bay. It was newer in design, the architecture of an age after Thrawn had departed on his mission, though it was at least a decade old. The outside of the building had been smoothed by Csilla’s unforgiving climate.
It had been a long time since they’d naturally fallen into step beside each other on a mission without one or the other forced to stand a step behind and to one side or the other, following social etiquette. Something long forgotten, yet still familiar bloomed in Thrawn’s belly. Even at Royal Imperial, all those years ago, they hadn’t truly been on even ground, though it had been nearly impossible to notice. Now, though, he felt it. He had always wondered if a day like this would come.
He wasn’t disappointed.
Eli steered him to a longer ancillary corridor to the left with nothing but a subtle shift of his stance, only looking up at Thrawn at the last second. He smiled briefly. His eyes were clear and bright, like polished riverstone. When his wrist brushed Thrawn’s forearm as they stepped through the doorway, he didn’t react. Neither did Thrawn. But he didn’t step back, content to let their sleeves brush as they continued on their way.
Had this happened before, in the Empire? Thrawn wondered. He hadn’t been looking, hadn’t considered this a possibility for himself, much less for his then Commander. They’d been what he’d hoped were friends. And regardless of his valiant actions, Thrawn had come to realize that Eli had hoped for the same.
Thrawn wasn’t used to being so hopeful, but he found that he didn’t mind. The concept of discovery was exhilarating.
Eli’s lips thinned and twisted as they approached another door leading to what sounded like a far more busy place. “This is the main drag,” He informed Thrawn as the hydraulics did their job, and a beautiful mezzanine was revealed. “Usually I wouldn’t indulge Ronan by meeting in such a place, but I like the café.”
His fellow captain completely ignored the beautiful, whimsical art, suspended from the ceiling and done in expansive murals on almost every wall. In fact, Eli paid the art little mind until Thrawn had stopped several paces back, inspecting a crystalline sculpture that seemed to accept the rare glow from the sun that peeked through the skylights overhead and warmed to a kaleidoscope of color in the infrared, subtle and intricate in its execution.
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen that look,” Eli said into Thrawn's analysis. He licked his lips, wetting them. “I can’t wait to hear you tell me the artist’s entire life story later.”
Thrawn glanced away from the tangle of elements that comprised the complex, suspended piece. “Oh?” He asked, surprised.
“I know who the artist is. We can test how well your art-sense is now that you’re back where you belong.” The words weren’t playful, more inquisitive, curious.
The Chiss turned back from the artwork and let Eli guide him. “You know the artist?”
“Oh, I do,” He said. “And I’m not telling you the story until you give me your analysis.”
“She came onto you,” Thrawn speculated immediately. His eyes flickered between the piece and Vanto, narrowing as he appraised the human.
“She?” Eli questioned. His eyebrows accentuated the question.
“He?”He frowned. “No. The artist identifies as female. You can tell-”
Eli’s head tipped back and he laughed, honest and unbidden, interrupting Thrawn’s absurdly accurate conclusions. Thrawn’s lips quirked upwards into a tiny, helpless smile.
“Was my speculation correct?” The Chiss couldn't help but ask.
“Hell," Vanto was still laughing. "You don't miss a trick, Mitth’raw’nuruodo. I missed that.” Before Thrawn could think on those words or their meaning, Eli clapped his arm. “C’mon,” He drawled, “I don’t want to listen to Ronan bitch because we’re late.”

The cafe was upscale and incredibly dim by human standards, playing up the Chiss side of superior sight. The mugs, Eli had been told, were a kind that lit up beautifully in the infrared, despite being made of some flimsi-like material so patrons could take their drinks to go. Considering the cautious look Thrawn gave a table’s beverages, that seemed to be about right.
Ronan, as expected, proceeded to scoff at the sight of Thrawn. “I’d heard you weren’t dead,” He said drolly in accented Cheunh as he stood to greet them. He shook Thrawn’s hand delicately when the Chiss said his name in greeting. Then, “Hello, Traitor.”
Rolling his eyes, Eli shook his fellow ex-Imperial’s hand in greeting. “Glad to see you haven’t lost your charm,” He said in Basic. “I think we can save your horrific attempt at that posh accent. I’d like to get through this without you needin’ to repeat yourself all the time.”
“I’ll have you know my accent is that of House Chaf. The population on Sarvchi speaks many different dialects of standard Cheunh. It isn’t my fault your military education didn’t properly culture you,” Ronan said primly, adjusting his yellow cape. Thrawn looked to Eli instead of speaking, and Ronan’s eyes lit up. “I thought he wasn’t on your good side?”
“Things change.” Eli said, foot nudging Thrawn’s before the Chiss realized the snarl threatening to break through his seemingly blank expression.
“Formbi won’t be thrilled,” Ronan snorted. “We do not want any part in your war.”
“Formbi is, as always, welcome to join us. I have yet to hear this sentiment to my face.”
“You know he has far more important things to do,” Ronan said with a self-important adjustment of his bright yellow cape. It drew Thrawn’s attention, and the syndic’s aide noticed that attention immediately. “It’s an upgrade from the drab one I wore during my time in the empire, don’t you think? Savit bit a hole through it during his little temper tantrum.”
Eli buried his face in his hands. Thrawn shrugged, not nearly as affected as Eli had thought. “It is… yellow,” The Chiss captain settled for commenting.
“That’s one word for it,” Eli muttered into his palm, then straightened and got down to business. “Did you get me the files I needed?”
“You could at least say please,” Ronan rebuked his lack of manners.
“I’ve got info, I don’t need to beg,” Vanto said, straightfaced.
“Of course,” Ronan said idly, producing a datacard. “The information you requested for your little project. There’s not much. The Empire was keen to make everyone forget what came before it.”
“Anything is something,” Eli commented mildly, pocketing the tiny chip within a hidden compartment in his tunic and producing another. He didn’t set it on the table between them, but held it between his fingertips, even when Ronan reached for it. He looked to Thrawn, calculatingly, then back to Ronan.
Ronan tapped the table twice, nonchalantly, then picked up his drink from the heavy coaster it rested on. It was a jamming device, the deep blue indicator blinking intermittently to show it was active. His gaze rose back to Eli as he set the drink back down.
Thrawn stroked his chin. “Were you followed?” He asked.
“There is a guard posted nearby. Two of them,” Ronan said. His expression gave away no indication of concern.
“Can you lose them?”
The pale human grinned. “With ease. Formbi is always disappointed when I don’t.”
Eli rolled his eyes, though he didn’t appear entirely irritated. Lower, he intoned, “I could give you this, or we could go to our ship and discuss things in detail.”
Eyes gleaming, Ronan asked, equally soft, “Is that where you’re hiding the Jedi? My sources say he doesn’t stray far from Thrawn.”
Thrawn eyed Ronan coolly, taking Eli’s earlier warning seriously. “Any actions you consider taking against my aide, I suggest you consider carefully.”
“Oh, please,” Ronan waved him off. “I wouldn’t.” He gestured to Eli. “This one’s just paranoid.”
“For good reason,” Eli said, stone-faced. His eyes remained hard, though his eyebrows rose. “What do you want to do?”
Smiling wanly, his aura shifting to become every bit the overworked Syndic’s assistant he was advertised to be, Ronan rose, ripping the datacard from Eli’s fingers with an over-dignified harrumph. Loudly, for effect, he said, “This conversation was incredibly pointless, per usual, with nothing of value for me.” Sliding his gaze between the two captains, ignoring Eli’s hiss of discomfort from the card scraping his fingernails. “You’re welcome for the information, Vanto.” He barely spared Thrawn a glance as he turned, drink and jammer in hand, letting his cape billow over his shoulder like an obnoxious victory flag.
Thrawn waited a few moments, watching as the yellow-clad human took his leave with all the air of pompous importance he remembered, then saw the two Chiss that were very clearly his escort follow at a calculated distance. They were subtle, Thrawn could give them that. “He will find our ship?”
Eli nodded. “Docking info is on the datacard he yanked out of my hand. He should be able to access a terminal somewhere to get what he needs after he dodges the two goons on his tail.”
“This was the plan all along,” Thrawn voiced, after a moment of comfortable silence.
“Why do you think I had Ezra stay with the ship?” Eli’s smile was knowing. He nudged Thrawn with an elbow. “At least this way it should give you enough time to check out the rest of the art on display in the mezzanine before we head back.”
Thrawn nodded, his eyes sharp and eager, though his mouth was held in that typical, serious line. “You should hope that Ezra won’t attack him,” He mused to his fellow captain.
This time, Eli’s grin was alight with amusement as he shrugged, “Well, we’ll find out how well he listened, now won’t we?”

Ronan was sitting at the small table in the shuttle’s living area when Eli and Thrawn made it back.
“I see you two took the scenic route,” He commented. He held up his wrists, which were in binders. Ezra leaned against the wall beside the hatch, at a good angle to see Ronan and also get the drop on any unwanted visitors. The room was entirely empty save for the table and chairs bolted to the floor of the cabin.
“Good work, Bridger. The binders were a nice touch,” Eli said, extending a hand for the tool that would unlock them.
“Thanks for the heads up, by the way,” Ezra commented dryly.
It was Thrawn who skirted around the rest of the humans and took a seat to Ronan’s left. “Plans change, Bridger. You must adapt.”
Ezra waved the multitool nonchalantly but gave it up to Vanto with a sigh. He gestured to Ronan. “He said this was always the plan.”
Rubbing his wrists as the thick cuffs were removed, Ronan motioned to his bag and Ezra retrieved it with an exasperated sigh. The jammer from before was produced, as well as a holorecorder. “You understand I will have to record this for Syndic Chaf’orm’bintrano.”
“Yeah, I know,” Eli said. He exchanged a glance with Thrawn, who did not look so at ease. “You really should have brought him. Recording is dicey, especially considering the subject matter.”
“I will not be galavanting off on a galactic tour. I am going directly to Formbi the second this meeting is adjourned. He is nearby.” Reorienting the conversation, Ronan said, “House Chaf wants nothing to do with militaristic enterprises. That I am even here is only because you promised me samples.”
“I did,” Eli said, pulling a small, well-concealed cylinder with a tiny vial from within his tunic. He laid it out on the table. “That’s enough to kill three Chiss,” He said. “If it’s used on one, cardiac arrest is more or less instant. If you spread it out, you’re just slow, but fatal torture.”
Ezra swore and turned away, disappearing into the cockpit. Ronan’s eyes tracked him Almost silently, he murmured, “And the antidote?”
Eli sighed. At this point, it was what it was. Ezra was bound to find out eventually. He spoke soft, but even, and didn’t plan to mince his words even when the Jedi returned. “That’s where house Chaf comes in. We cannot research it ourselves, and House Chaf has both the technology and the defenses to do it without our protection.”
“An interesting proposition.” He furrowed his brow. “Admiral Ar’alani would be willing to concede control like that?”
Thrawn looked between them briefly, then intervened. “It is a necessary concession,” He said. “There is a traitor within our midst.”
“Aboard your ship,” Ronan commented doubtfully. “Surely you can-”
“No,” Eli said. “Within the Aristocra.”
“Who?”
“We believe it is one of the ruling families,” Thrawn said. “We do not yet have-”
“It’s Inrokini,” Eli said.
“We suspect,” Thrawn interjected, looking at Vanto strangely. “We do not yet have-”
“Well,” The other captain leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. “Regardless, this is a Grysk poison that was not created by Chiss hands. The risks in accidental exposure are too great. We’re concerned about our science team even taking it out of vac-seal to put under a microscope.”
“Syndic Formbi will be pleased you at least consider our research teams above your own,” Ronan said smartly. He frowned, though. “Why do you suspect Inrokini?”
Thrawn said, “The most recent casualties were all supporters of House Inrokini.”
Eli looked at Ronan. “I think they’re going to frame House Chaf, use Formbi’s hate of Thrass as a motive. They’ve already tried to kill Thrawn once.”
Huffing, Ronan had to ask, “So how many bolts did you put into the idiot’s head, really?”
“Only one,” Eli commented. “I don’t miss.”
“Shame they denied the promotion.” He shrugged. “I figured it had to be worse, considering they had Kresh take your ship out from under you. That woman sure knows how to make a reward look like a punishment,” He said sharply.
“The promotion was a sham and you know it,” Vanto said, more to abate Thrawn’s curious look and Ezra’s head, peeking back into the unsealed doorway between cockpit and main cabin. “Back to the point: We need house Chaf’s help.”
Ronan nodded, his usual bluster melting away. “Look, I can take it to Formbi and plead your case. But it’s military. I don’t think he’ll go for it. He barely tolerates the CDF engaging the Grysks as it is.”
“The traitor situation may change his mind,” Thrawn said. “Whomever is getting this poison from the Grysks,” He indicated the innocent-seeming vial of fine, crystalline powder, “Is working with them directly. We believe it is a plot to subjugate one of the houses and take control of our people from the inside out.”
“You mean,” Ronan looked up in surprise. “That is - the Grysks are trying to make us a client species?” He looked between the two men. “Like those-” He shuddered, well aware of the Scratchlings. “Can they do that?”
Eli nodded. “Given enough time and the right access, I believe they can.” He shrugged. “Besides, it’s easier to get information and build power if two of the families are fighting to eliminate each other from power. If you were smart, you’d convince him to speak with Thrass and form an alliance.”
“You clearly do not understand the nuances of Chiss politics. That is impossible.”
“I think they could put aside their pride and turn their mutual disdain on a worthy target for a few cycles,” Thrawn interjected. “My brother is petty, that much is true, but he does not have a death wish.”
Ronan nodded, though he didn’t seem convinced, and contemplated. “Like I said, I’ll make your case. Suggest that he speak to Ar’alani, if not the two of you.” He indicated the vial. “Is there more? This is nowhere near enough for an in-depth study.”
“Yes,” Eli said. “I can have some folks run it to a place of your choosing if the syndic agrees.”
“Oh great,” Ronan said. “I do love receiving visits from Commodore Faro.”
“It’s Commander now,” Thrawn offered.
Ronan made a look that clearly said ‘of course it is.’ “How do you continuously convince these beings to give up everything and stay all the way out here?” He asked. “I didn’t think recruitment was part of your duties.” He wasn’t really expecting an answer.
He got one, anyway.
“Hey, he’s a likeable guy,” Ezra quipped from the doorway. “I mean, once you get over wanting to kill him a little.”

I already got my Christmas present: Being abandoned by everyone
This Christmas is the worst Christmas I’ve had ever. And it will be my last Christmas, because I’m not looking forward to 2019 at all. For the past year, I’ve been seeking real substantial help for me and my parents because I’ve been a sole provider for my parents for the past 4 years. My mom has a job now, but her job as a staff at a small city government is overworking her for relatively little pay. She might be paid in the low 30 thousands but in practice after taxes it’s in the mid 20 thousands. Her boss has been over-demanding for everything no matter how much she tries her best. Worse, she gets contently reminded about how her position is probationary and how she can be let go.
I’ve been trying to seek help whatever I can think of and whomever I can think of about my story, about my skills and I’ve been left behind and abandoned by people who are supposed to help me as a black-American and a person with autism.
I’ve reached out to websites, newspapers, TV shows, local and national celebs, radio channels about my four year ordeal. But I either get ignored, promised they will help but then at the last minute can’t help, or have zero clue what to do with my story or wiling to research what I say. No matter how many tweets, emails or phone calls, they end up turning into brick walls or stonefaced every time. They even forget to call back when they tell they will and I have to call them back the day afterward to get them do what they told me to.
Even I had multiple redditors and people online offered to help me, and I accept the help. But when I follow up with them on a weekly basis, they made excuse after excuse why they have not done anything ,stringing me along, and tell me to just “hang in there” and “you’re doing the best you can” when I tell them that my parents are upset over an expense I can’t control because I don’t have a job. Then they refer me to programs that don’t actually help me the more times I follow up weekly. Then afterwards they just leave me on read or not even bother reading my messages or return my voice mails. These same people never checked up on me to see if I was doing I had this happen to me multiple times, and it was clear that they had no sense of urgency despite them knowing I’ve been in this crisis for four years.
I’ve been trying hard to get another job but every attempt at her getting another job by networking she gets flaked and abandoned a week later. Meanwhile the bills have been piling up no matter what I do.
It also took me TWO months to get social services to take our crisis seriously, because they wanted more information and dragging my case because we don’t have any children. They even asked us if we actually made a payment in while waiting for a crisis grant for the mortgage.
Worse, I could not afford to pay $30 per day to uber to and from my temp job anymore I could barely afford it. I’ve reached out to /r/Assistance, but my plea was ignored and downvoted to 0 by trolls who are just waiting for me to be homeless so they can laugh at my miserly.
But when I found out that my job coach I’ve been working with from the MD Department of Rehabilitation that he knows of a contact that he’s been working with to meet up with me on Monday, I decided to call off work. Then the delays and excuses came: “Can’t get a meeting on Monday, we’ll work on Wednesday”, then Wednesday came, told me “shooting for a meeting on Friday and Monday”. He knew that Monday is practically a holiday, so at this point I knew he was simply going to blow me off and not admit that there no meeting planned. I tried to follow up with him over the phone or text but he ignored the phone calls and ignored most of my texts. And on Friday and Monday he just basically never there, basically abandoned me.
Then later today, I got a mail saying that the mortgage company intends to foreclose on the house my parents have been living in despite sending us two payments in this month. Then last week, I get drop served papers by a credit card company when I had to use what little money I have to put a roof over my parents head when my unemployment benefits ran out despite my best efforts seeking new work.
This is my reward and Christmas present for being a financial caregiver and sacrificing my youth to my unemployed parents, being told that no one actually gives a damn about your crisis and you will be homeless anyway. And all the shelters in the DC area are full, no one will take them. My parents are not mental or physically equipped to being homeless. And every last person who offered help but then abandoned and left on me read would not gave a damn what I’m going through now.
If I wanted to sell the house, it will take months for the sale to go through and we will still have to pay to live.
If 2019 is just going to be me and family being homeless despite everything I’ve done for the past 4 years, and getting nothing but false hope, platitudes and straight abandonment when I reach out for help for the rest of my life, then there’s no point in continuing to fight for what I want. I was not even in the mood to celebrate Christmas at all, but now I’m in absolutely no mood at all. All I want is a miracle, but there won’t be on for me, ever.
I’ve gotten my last Christmas present.
I don't want your platitudes, false hope, feel good bullshit, guilt trips, or any persuading that homelessness isn't that bad. I don't want to hear it, nor your generic advice about my situation because I barely have money to do anything or to relocate. I'm fucking sorry.
Even sorries mean nothing now. All I wanted was a life, but now that door is closed to me, and I'm not equipped to be homeless at all. As soon as it happens I'm planning to end it.

The Untamed Characters as People In My Library
I work in a public library (extremely rural, extremely American) and was possessed by the idea of “children’s entertainer Wei Wuxian” and this spiraled from there. I’m a children’s librarian so my bias is Obvious.
Wei Wuxian: children’s musician/performer. Does dance/music programs, encouraging the kids to get up and move while he plays. Creates absolute chaos because 3 year olds are not coordinated, but no one cries. The kids’ favorite, even if he’s on thin ice with the rest of the staff. Technically, he’s not even staff, but his sister is the children’s librarian and he’s in so often he might as well be. Does most of his programs for free because “Musical Literacy Is Important, Wen Qing, I’m Not Going to Tell”. Writes his own programs to avoid paying royalties.
Lan Wangji: traditional children’s musician. Comes in once or twice during the summer to do cultural programs about Gusu music. Extremely popular, libraries fight over getting him in. Very reserved, quiet, not all that good with the kids but they love him anyway. Does a great job drumming up business for the local music teachers. You’d think he’d be expensive, but he lets the libraries name their price, and even then he usually negotiates down.
They’re usually scheduled to do programs on the same day or at least the same week, given the similar content. Get into fights frequently in the break room over pedagogical differences. Everyone keeps begging Jiang Yanli to schedule them further apart. She just smiles.
(Everyone except for Jiang Yanli is surprised when they go into business together. There’s a betting pool on the break room fridge for how long before one of them kills the other, and who’s going to snap first. MianMian wins with a write-in answer of “neither, they’re going to get married”.)
Jiang Yanli: youth services librarian. Everyone loves her. Knows all of the children by name, keeps in touch with their parents. The kids all call her shijie or jie-jie, even when they’re teenagers. A master at sliding informational cards into the hands of little queer kids without their parents seeing. Had two weddings: the actual ceremony, and then a second ceremony the next day where she wore her wedding robes to the library so “her” kids could see. She only meant to drop by for a few hours, but ended up staying and working the whole day, because Wen Yuan wouldn’t let go of her leg. She did delay her honeymoon by a day for that. Currently taking a year off to care for her newborn son.
Nie Huaisang: youth services librarian. Did Not Expect to be put in charge when Jiang Yanli left for a year. Better at it than you’d think; he’s been helping her run things behind the scenes for a while now (they have weekly “department meetings” where they lock themselves in the office and either scheme over the budget or complain about rude patrons). Kids like him because he’s “silly”. Definitely plays up being clumsier than he is, pretends he doesn’t know really simple information (kids are convinced he doesn’t know math), gets REALLY into it during story time. He’ll be happy to go back to being an assistant when A-Li gets back, but he’s still enjoying himself.
Mo XuanYu: youth services specialist. Fifteen minutes late to work with Starbucks everyday, but by god, they’re so short staffed they can’t afford to fire him. Also, he goes on coffee runs for the whole building. Also also, he’s got access to that Jin Clan money, in that Jin Guangshan paid him off to stay quiet about being a bastard until JGS croaked of a heart attack (no one cried). Hates kids. Why is he in the children’s department? It was better than packing boxes. GREAT with social media, a one-man marketing department. Reluctantly very good at puppet shows and is bullied into doing them weekly by Jiang Yanli. 
MianMian: circulation manager. Helps out in youth services when Nie Huaisang really needs it. In charge of the money. Looks sweet, great with families. Has a strict “do no harm but take no shit” policy. Has connections to all the shelters so she can send people somewhere they can get support instead of just throwing them out for trying to sleep in the alley or bathing in the bathroom. Never seen without a cup of coffee (once a month she’ll shove $100 into the hands of an intern and send them to the shop up the street to get coffee for the whole library). Has your back with combative patrons. Can, will, and has banned people from the building for being rude.
Wen Ning: shelver. Doesn’t talk a lot but takes great joy in making sure that the library is in perfect order. Knows where everything is. Probably knows every book in the library, but he’d never admit to it. Hears SO MUCH gossip. Will leave a book on someone’s table if they’re struggling that’s relevant to whatever they’re going through. Anonymously runs the online Readers’ Advisory blog column. Will push the kids around on the shelving cart if they ask (frequently gets in trouble for this). Has broken a cart pushing Wei Wuxian around (did not get in trouble for this because Wen Qing was too busy dragging Wei Wuxian to an inch of his life for being a bad influence).
Wen Qing: county librarian. Has this shit on lock. Takes no nonsense from the local government; she’s not here to flirt her way through budget meetings or sacrifice her intelligence so that the men in charge will give her funding. She’s run this library on a shoestring budget in the past and she’ll do it again before she plays the fool. Occasionally brings her nephew, Wen Yuan, to work with her for the day when his grandmother can’t care for him. Everyone respects her but they’re also a little terrified of her. She likes it that way.
Lan Xichen: adult services manager. Works very closely with the geneaology department. Like, VERY closely. Has seen everything you could possibly imagine. No longer reacts when patrons are watching porn, just remotely shuts their computer down from his desk. Great with old women. Occasionally ventures down to circulation to defuse the situations where MianMian can’t afford to kill someone/ban them from the building. Knows what you’re looking for before you even open your mouth. Knows exactly which “book with a red cover” you’re looking for. It’s a little freaky. Runs a weekly meeting to help college kids with their research projects (finding materials and proofreading), a meeting to help people with job applications, and a creative writing club. Desk is covered in thoeretical treatises and bodice-ripper romances.
Meng Yao: acquisitions and geneaology manager. You don’t ask how he gets those rare books, you just catalogue them. Made geneaology its own department, separate from adult services, even though he’s usually at Lan Xichen’s desk chatting and drinking tea. Definitely a geneaologist out of Spite but he’s good at cataloguing that kind of information in his brain, remembering who’s in what family and whose family had historical beef with who, who fought in what war...basically an encyclopedia. Runs a blog of the historical scandals he discovers through his patrons’ research, with names changed for privacy. There’s some REAL wild shit in there if you know where to look (he does). Does not speak much to Mo XuanYu, but they do trade the Look of two men who do not miss their deadbeat (dead) father. He’s the one who put up the betting pool on whether or not WWX and LWJ would kill each other. Still owes MianMian his part of the pool.
A-Qing (Xiao Qing): intern. Works in whatever department needs her the most that day. Always coming up with ways to make the library more accessible, even if she has to jury rig something herself. Takes coffee breaks with Mo XuanYu. Frequently overrides the time limit on the public computers for kids who are just trying to do their homework; an hour isn’t a lot of time to do a week’s worth of schoolwork, and most of them don’t have internet at home (or a stable home). She’s been there. Not allowed to work the circulation desk because she Will fight patrons if they try to get an attitude with her, and she’s not a manager, so she doesn’t have the power to fight them like MianMian does. 
HONORABLE MENTION:
Jin Zixuan: the library’s sugar daddy. Head of the Friends of the Library (aka the totally legal money laundering operation). Makes so many anonymous charitable donations whenever his wife mentions the library needs funds for something. Makes plenty of non-anonymous ones, too, but those are for the Big Things that are expected of someone in his position. To the public, the library is simply his passion project, his charity work. Everyone who knows him knows that he is 100% whipped for Jiang Yanli and would probably sign his soul over to the library if needed to keep the place afloat. Wen Qing KNOWS it’s him, but she can’t do anything about it, so they trade passive aggressive barbs at fundraising dinners and book sales. Has had at least one breakdown in front of MianMian where he asked her to get parenting books out of the children’s room for him because he couldn’t let A-LI KNOW that he’s WORRIED about having a CHILD! What if he turns out like his own father?! He doesn’t know how anything about raising children!!!
Song Lan: no one really knows what his job is, but it has something to do with private security and he’s not a cop because his daughter has an “ACAB” sticker on her water bottle. Definitely gave his cell number to everyone and told them to call him Just In Case a patron turns violent or there’s something happening in the parking lot (Nie Huaisang called him once when some frat bro was cat-calling the female staff; Wen Chao didn’t do that again). Looks like he could kill you, could actually kill you, and is a cinnamon roll. Likes to chat about philosophy with Lan Xichen. Has to have A-Qing help him use the computer every time he comes in. They’re all pretty sure he’s just playing dumb so his daughter can show off.
Xiao XingChen: an absolute goddamn delight of a patron. Comes in every two weeks and asks for some extremely obscure book you KNOW doesn’t exist in audio form (if it even exists in a form that isn’t “300 year old parchment paper”) but he always smiles and says his daughter will read it to him, they love talking about philosophy together, and you also KNOW A-Qing does because she’s co-opted the youth services supply closet as a recording booth. Always wants to listen when you’re stressed out and having a hard day. Probably a therapist? You don’t know what he does for a living, either, but you’re less afraid to ask him than you are his husband. Honestly it just seems rude that you don’t know at this point so you’re not going to admit ignorance! Don’t ask! Runs a community program helping teens get ready for college and apply for scholarships, in collaboration with Lan Xichen’s programs. Is he a school counselor? You’re still not going to ask.
Jiang Cheng: also part of The Friends of the Library with Jin Zixuan. They’ve got a begrudging partnership which is “we’re both whipped for the women in charge of this library and we’re going to give them Everything They Want”. Would be dating Wen Qing if it wasn’t a terrible breach of ethics. Makes love-sick puppy eyes at her during the monthly meetings. Comes in with the local animal shelter every Wednesday evening to promote the spay/neuter program and give coupons for it. He can’t have dogs because his brother is deathly allergic, but he can pet all the Good Boys and Girls at the shelter that he wants. He is a little tired of the “Cheng-spotting” Facebook group that Wei Wuxian started, where everyone posts candids of him walking various shelter dogs around town. (Actually he thinks it’s fun, but he’s never going to admit that.)
DISHONORABLE MENTION:
Xue Yang: has had his library card revoked. Does not wear headphones to listen to screamo music about dismemberment on the public computers. God, you hope he’s an anatomy student, you’re really tired of his search history. He says it’s “research” and then refuses to elaborate. For a paper? For a book?? For MURDER?! You don’t know! You don’t think you want to know! The reason Lan Xichen has a “kill switch” for the public computers. Banned from the premises but he keeps getting back in somehow.

Socialism is a concept that individuals should not have ownership of land, capital (money), or industry, but rather the whole community collectively owns and controls property, goods, and production.  Ideally, in this system all share equally in work and the fruits of their labor.  
This sounds great, I admit.  However, if you don’t own it, you’re not going to work or take care of it.  Look at apartments that are turned into condos.  When the apartments are rented, the renters don’t own the apartments.  They are not likely to care if something gets broken and mistreated thus lowering the value, because it is not theirs.  It is the landlords.  It is his problem.

(Who cares, no skin off my nose?)  However once the people buy the condos and it becomes their property, they now have a vested interest in keeping it in good shape.  While they were renters they were living under Socialism (no ownership).  Once they brought the condo, they became Capitalist. (ownership) and their thinking changed.

Under true Socialism or Communism, Steve Jobs could not have brought the parts for his prototype computer.  If he knew that his hard work, would never allow him to make more money then his neighbor who spends his time watching mindless TV shows, why would he even bother to waste his time trying to invent something new and useful.  Why not take it easy?  Everybody else does.  In Germany and France, union employees get months of paid vacation time.  Take it easy, you’ll get paid!

Socialism and Communism kill the ‘will’ to work, competition, innovation and creativity.  Why compete to work?  You won’t make any more money.  Why spend time innovating new ideas, or being creative, there won’t be anything in it for me.  As a result they fail to provide goods and services for their citizens.

The Soviet Eastern Communist countries of the 20th century were noted for not having much goods and services for their citizens.  Yet, the ruling class always had plenty of everything, and it was usually imported from capitalist countries.  While we have rich people in America, we also have a large middle class, that live comfortable lives.  Even many if not most poor people in America have refrigerators, TVs, and food on the table.

Venezuela and Greece have suffered tremendously under Socialism and all others like Sweden or Denmark gave up the concept years ago bc it doesn’t work.

Of course your brand of Communism would be different. lol  Now about communism, under the Soviet Communist rule, the citizens are allowed to keep very little personal goods.  Effectively the state takes all the business profits, and gives the workers ration cards to buy food, and clothing.

Other personal items such as TVs, radios, AC units are hard to come by, and are rationed out by the state, if you can prove you need them.

People who had lived in Communist Lithunia who wanted to move across town to another apartment to be closer to someone were prevented.  The move had to be approved by the State, and it took them 10 years and lots of red tape for simply moving to another apartment! In the old Soviet Union the government paid the workers with ration cards, but the cards were only good in government control stores where there were few goods of poor quality.

What we're looking for in this role (in addition to comfort with the above):
Working in a fast-paced and busy facility, the Office Assistant is responsible for managing the heavy rotation of calls, deliveries, upkeep of common areas, ordering lunches, planning office events (on site and remote) to honor staff birthdays, holidays, etc. They also manage supplies for facilities management like kitchen, bathroom and printing needs.
Responsibilities Include:
• Significant project management in keeping track of receipts, office supplies, team preferences, birthdays, in bound deliveries (like media drives and machinery) and ensuring we never run out of supplies for the kitchen, bathroom, printers, and basic office supplies (i.e. pens, paper, post its, etc.)
• Phones - you are both a gate keeper, protecting the time of all those on site, as well as the very first or only touch point someone may have with our company. How you speak to people matters and we need to know we can trust you with our people and how we're being represented to anyone turning to us for support.
• Security Cameras and property awareness falls to the Office Assistant who is one set of eyes on our cameras. You'll alert various team members should their be an issue on property, you'll issue guests security badges (when we actually have guests again), and you'll be mindful of our neighborhood to ensure we're being a good member of our tiny Cahuenga community.
• Learn. Yep, that's a responsibility. We cannot teach ambition. Most folks at DFT have grown immensely from their first day to where they are now, with a large number of our team having been with us for over a decade. The number one responsibility of any DFT'er is to stay curious. Every single job here matters. Every single job here supports someone else on the team. We are interdependent and interdisciplinary.
• Covid Safety Protocols: You temperature check every employee and guest to DFT as well as sanitize surfaces and door handles every hour. You handle and sanitize inbound packages (packages are placed on the floor inside our door by vendors and you use a sanitizing spray gun to disinfect before touching with gloves). You ensure that everyone in office is wearing a mask at all times unless alone behind a closed door (most folks have a door at DFT).
• Billing Support: the Office Assistant provides a necessary hand to our accounting department, by facilitating weekly scanning and filing of financial documents, managing and filing receipts, and copying/scanning any additional financial documentation required.
• Honoring and supporting team members. Their birthdays should matter to you deeply. This is a hard enough time to try and connect, we want to make sure that our people know they're seen, valued and cared for - not everyone loves a big hulabaloo, but everyone does appreciate knowing they matter.
• Coffee. We cannot stress this enough. You're going to need to make a mean cup of coffee. This office is full of admitted coffee snobs with a borderline consumption problem.
• Lunches, Dinners, Catering - you'll be responsible for our twice weekly on site lunches (which may increase to 3x during busier seasons) and dinners for those working late - both lunches and dinners are also often extended to our team working from home, so you'll place orders you never see, but also need to check in with staff after delivery to ensure all went well and they're not left to solve for issues with their meals. Catering and holiday meals are generally organized through a vendor for us to offer as a pick up and re/heat at home (i.e. Thanksgiving were meals from Gelson's catering, Christmas we offered Whole Foods meals and ensure GF, Vegan, Allergies are accounted for with each person). Food is a love language we take seriously.
Experience & Education:
• High end hospitality background preferred.
• Media & Entertainment background a strong plus.
• Billing or accounting strengths are helpful.
• Direct support of a management role - having to anticipate needs - very helpful.

What is this?
"Shrouded Destiny: A Star Wars Long Tale" is the world's biggest independent fan film made in Denmark!
With more than 350 volunteers having lent their talents to the making of this 70 minutes pilot episode, this is an unsolicited pitch to Lucasfilm and Disney in the effort to get a meeting with the topfolks at Lucasfilm to meet myself and the producers to create an entirely original story in the Star Wars Universe!
Starring actors like International Emmy-Award winner, Lars Mikkelsen (House of Cards, Sherlock Holmes, Ride Upon The Storm); stunt performer Laûren Okadigbo (Justice Leauge, Wonder Woman, Krypton, Ready Player One); Magnus Bruun (The Last Kingdom, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla) and others, the fan film is a "pilot" aimed at showing the visual style and storyline in a small part of the planned 8-season storyline that takes place in the years 550-510 BBY. Imagine the scale of Game of Thrones; the meticulousness of The Wire, and the dysfunctional family relations of Breaking Bad spiced with the violence of The Raid, and you have an idea of what this film is all about. 
What do you need?
We've finished filming and are currently looking to recruit people in two areas: Immediate post production and creating illustrations for a Virtual Production Pitch Presentation. 
The post work includes things like: 
Keying
Matchmoving / camera tracking
Houdini DOPs
All-round compositors

So you're in that point of your career, where you have the talent and time, but don't have the jobs right now and are looking to add things to your portfolio and you're not afraid to put forth ideas that you believe will strengthen the final product.

OVERVIEW: The Department of Theatre is looking for original short film script submissions for consideration of production in May of 2022. This is an annual film production opportunity in collaboration with the students and faculty of the Department of Theatre. If selected, your script will go through the entire production process: Development, Pre-Production, Principle Photography, Post-Production, and Distribution (submitted for film festivals in the professional category.) 
You are expected to be available (either in person or via video conference) for two development meetings in Fall Semester 2021, and one in early Spring Semester 2022. These are primarily for script notes, which are also expected to be addressed. 
Submissions will be accepted now through September 15th, 2021. 
SCRIPT GUIDELINES: Scripts should be between 10 - 20 pages in standard screenplay format.  There must be 7-10 roles in the film (think ensemble pieces). The characters should be aged between 16 - 30 years old.  No driving with dialogue scenes. Some stunts are okay, but should be relatively limited.  Limited special effects requirements. Limited visual effects requirements. No period pieces at this time. Open to a variety of genres or styles as long as it adheres to the guidelines above.

 FILMSTOCK is the first of it's kind as the only industry expo offering in person meetings with agents, casting directors, film distributors, show runners and vendors and other industry professionals. Our date for the first annual FILMSTOCK is set for November 13th 2021 right in the middle of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF). 
Our vision is not a Sundance or a Tribecca Film Festival but a Business Industry Expo which I know is the first of it's kind. I am not talking about a networking event where everyone there is simply talking nonsense claiming to be in the business.
I am talking about professional and industry leaders from Photographers, Videographers, Industry Organizations, Graphic Artists, Make-up, Wardrobe, Set Design, Casting Directors, Soundstage Production House owner / operators, Kraft food services, executive transportation services, etc. These individuals / vendors will all be in the main lobby area where they have each purchased a table for the day at a cost of $79. Tables are standard six foot table with access to power, where they will display a banner ad or backdrop. 
 SPEEDCASTING -We are the first to offer a face to face live in person slate where Actors pay a fee to do a 10 minute monologue or just who they are to a panel (2 to 4) of Casting Directors and Agents. 3 hours 1pm to 4pm allows us 18 Actors to do their thing in front of the pros to hopefully get picked up. When an Actor registers he / she must upload a media bin, headshots, resume and if they plan on performing a monologue it cannot exceed 5 minutes. 
PITCHFEST - Same as above only now we have independent film makers pitching their project. They have already registered with a Treatment, Teaser, etc and they get 10 minutes to tell their story in hopes that a panel (2 to 4) of Distributors / Investor Producers may just give them a shot. Same time slots of 10 minutes each over 3 hours same = 18 pitches. 
We have broken down the above with a general admission day ticket $25.  All Access VIP ticket for $199 and in between for those interested in only the Pitchfest or Speedcasting a lower priced ticket. Door Prizes / raffle of high end electronics already in house donated from industry related companies such as Lume Cube. 
 NOTE - we are compensating the above professionals each $100.00 for their time on site open to close 12 noon to 4 pm paid at days end and they must be on site before 12 noon call time to set up . 
 Between social media, the coordination and support from FLIFF we expect a few hundred in attendance between 11 am and 4 pm that day.

I’m the Director of Content Development for Sideway - an innovative new streaming service that uses the mechanics of social media to tell fictional stories - and we are looking for a writer to develop a new, gender nonconforming version of Romeo and Juliet for our platform. If you have any kind of direct, personal connection to nonconforming gender praxis, or fall anywhere on the LGBTIAQ+ spectrum, this is the gig for you. If you are a straight white guy, probably not.
A little more about the platform itself: Sideway is a mobile-only app that resembles a social media app in how it’s navigated, but populated by fictional characters rather than real people. Each show on Sideway takes place within an entirely simulated social world, complete with video chats, DMs, posts, likes, comments, all of which make up the stories told.
In bringing this new version of Romeo & Juliet to life, we are hoping to retain as much of the original text as possible, while at the same time not being sacred about prudent dramatic changes. That said, the framework of the story - the setting, character relationships, world and texture - are entirely up to you. It needs to be set in the present day, given the nature of the app itself, but all other aspects of the story are open to creative interpretation.

The Age of Trump has conservative intellectuals in an embarrassing predicament: Trump has either turned conservatism into, or revealed conservatism to be, nothing but a gigantic grift, so who needs conservative intellectuals? When Republican tax cuts are such a brazen payoff to the super-rich that even tax-hating voters don’t believe it will ever trickle down, and when Michael Cohen taking obvious bribes from AT&T and Novartis exemplifies “draining the swamp,” how could anyone listen to a right-wing pencil-neck talk about conservative policy without laughing?
But don’t worry about the pencil-necks, they’ve found a way around this dilemma by escalating the decades-long culture war, diverting their audiences’ attention from the real issues with little melodramas in which conservatives are oppressed by Black Panther, Wonder Woman, and Shakespeare in the Park (boo!), then are rescued at the last minute by right-wing stars like Kid Rock and Kanye West (hurray!).
And now conservatives even have their own Wingnut Avengers for their Infinity Culture War: the Dark Intellectual Web, a group of conservatives and crypto-conservatives whose unifying principle seems to be that liberals are mean and therefore out of step with the millions of Americans who have never heard of the Dark Intellectual Web.
Last Tuesday Bari Weiss filed a gripping story at the allegedly leftist New York Timesabout the “Renegades of the Intellectual Dark Web,” who are either known conservatives like Ben Shapiro or public figures whose fans are nearly 100 percent conservative, usually because they have something bad to say about minorities, but who resist the label and prefer to call themselves “libertarians” or “classical liberals.”
IDW superheroes include Douglas Murray, one of those Islam-Wants-to-Kill-Us-All types; Christina Hoff Sommers, a Milo-fan anti-feminist libertarian who doesn’t like Muslims either; Claire Lehmann, who believes “nationalism is the antidote to racism,” and claims to have been “blacklisted” for “criticizing feminism”; atheist It Boy, Ben Carson fan, and idol of the alt-right Sam Harris; right-wing intellectual of the moment, clean-your-room scold, trans-rights opponent, and disbeliever in the gender pay gap Jordan Peterson, et alia.
According to Weiss, what unifies this crew is not their tendency to identify with the powerful against the powerless, but rather that “each is determined to resist parroting what’s politically convenient” — which I guess is the cool new IDweb way of saying “politically correct” — and their alleged willingness “to disagree ferociously, but talk civilly.” Weiss did not offer evidence for this claim.
Weiss’ article was mocked by mean liberals, particularly because Weiss portrayed the IDweb as “feeling largely locked out of legacy outlets” and “purged from institutions that have become increasingly hostile to unorthodox thought,” a sort of Kevin Williamson what-about-my-right-to-be-in-your-magazine maneuver. Weiss didn’t help her cause by claiming in a series of tweets (seconded by her right-wing fans) that, if followers of Donald Trump were racist and sexist, it was only because liberals had turned them racist and sexist by making fun of them, which is how Hitler took over Germany.
Right-bloggers and other conservatives sprang to this classic conservative mix of self-aggrandizement and persecution like kittens to catnip, though not as gracefully.
At Hot Air, John Sexton celebrated podcaster Dave Rubin, “one of the leading talkers in the IDW,” because “Rubin isn’t screaming. He isn’t angry,” which is apparently remarkable among conservative intellectuals. To demonstrate Rubin’s appeal, Sexton quoted some of his “rational, intriguing, thought-provoking content.” For example, if you “believe that people should be judged by their character, not their skin color” and “in freedom of religion,” Rubin has said, then “you’re probably not a progressive,” because progressives go around “banning speakers whose opinions [they] don’t agree with from college campuses…prohibiting any words not approved of as ‘politically correct,’ ” and “putting ‘Trigger Warnings’ on books, movies, music, anything that might offend people” — as, coincidentally, I was just doing on my day off, because my week had been taken up in recreational abortions and otherwise épatering le bourgeois.
Andrew Sullivan admitted the IDweb had “not been silenced,” but that they “have definitely been morally anathematized, in the precincts of elite opinion,” to a collective gasp and the covering of ladies’ ears. Sullivan accused Ta-Nehisi Coates of doing to newly right-woke Kanye West as elite opinion had done to the IDweb by “subjecting West to anathematization, to expulsion from the ranks.” (For the uninitiated, Coates is a writer known mainly to readers of political magazines, while West is a global superstar; but, like the Dark Web superstars, West suffers mightily from anathema and expulsion.)
At National Review David French said the IDweb guys were also oppressed because “the path to prominence for many of these now-popular people has sometimes been painful.” For example, Peterson had “battled (at great professional risk) for free speech in Canada,” and paid for it by remaining a tenured professor while making huge bank off videos and TV shows.
IDweb fans were even more oppressed than Peterson, French pressed on, because they “fear that even asking questions could endanger their livelihoods and ruin their public reputations.” The best French could do to explain this is by saying that while, admittedly, “the law of free speech has mainly improved…the culture of free speech has decayed” — that is, “people in academia and in much of corporate America…report increasingly politicized workplaces, with HR departments weaponized in the service of identity politics social-media accounts monitored for thought crimes.” Insult your co-workers as biologically inadequate, and you might lose your job! This ain’t the country your pappy grew up in, assuming he was white.
History suggests the IDweb phenomenon will be evanescent and mainly benefit its promoters, like the hippie-dippy “Crunchy Conservatism” once advocated by current Benedict Option scold Rod Dreher, or the fart-jokey “South Park Conservatism” briefly pimped by Brian C. Anderson, now editor of City Journal. But in the current environment of perpetual right-wing grievance, IDweb conservatism may have more staying power because there are plenty of angry wingnuts out there.
For example: You may have heard about white Yale student Sarah Braasch, who last week called the cops on a black student who had been napping in the dorm lounge; on a previous occasion, Braasch had chased another black student out of the dorm.
Turns out Braasch was not just a run-of-the-mill racist, but what we might call an Intellectual Dark Racist. She has written at length about her anger at seeing women in hijabs — which she assumed they’d been forced into wearing, because Muslims, right? — and then congratulated herself on her bravery in saying so out loud: “If I should ever get into any kind of a dispute or altercation with anyone who claims to be Muslim,” she fantasized, “I could conceivably be prosecuted for a hate crime,” in part because, she said, “I love hate speech.” But hark, libtards, “you can’t scare me,” cried Braasch defiantly: “What are you going to do? Kill me? Put me in prison? We’re all going to die someday.”
Braasch has it all: Intense fear of at least two minorities, a persecution complex, and a tendency toward provocative declarations. If she plays her cards right, she could be Bari Weiss’ next superstar.

Job Description
The Parliamentary Work Assistant fulfils a supranational function within the EPP Group Secretariat and carries out, under the responsibility of the administrator, the following functions and duties:
Providing administrative assistance for the Director/Head of Unit/Administrator(s) of the sector concerned;
Assisting the Director/Head of Unit/Administrator(s) in particular as regards following-up the work of committees, drawing up minutes and voting lists, contacts with other political groups and the EP administration;
Assisting, in coordination with the Administrator, the Members in the carrying out of their functions;
Preparing meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.;

Job requirements

employment contracts (if applicable, both the initial contract and additional clauses in case of a fixed-term contract) or certificates, letters or attestations of appointment, indicating the exact nature of the activity performed and clearly indicating the start and end dates of periods of professional experience; (Please note that the traineeships, even paid ones, are not taken into account as professional experience);
in the case of current professional activity, a copy of the most recent salary slip to enable the Selection Committee to calculate the length of professional experience;
In the case of self-employed activity: tax forms, VAT forms, trade register, social security documents, invoices, etc., to prove the professional experience;
documents proving the knowledge of the languages (certificates and diplomas). All claims regarding the candidate’s linguistic knowledge must be backed up by certificates and diplomas. In the absence of such documents, candidates must clearly explain, on a separate sheet, how they acquired this knowledge;
ID card or Passport.
Please note that the documents proving professional experience must be accompanied by an unofficial translation in either English, French or German.

ADMISSION TO THE SELECTION PROCEDURE AND THE TESTS
The selection procedure will be organised on the basis of qualifications and tests (written andoral).
INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE APPLYING
The Selection Committee will draw up a list of the candidates who have submitted applications in the form required and by the closing date.
Candidates who
do not meet the conditions for admission and job requirements;
do not duly complete the online application form;
do not attach the required supporting documents proving their qualifications, professional experience or remove/black out any content of supporting documents;
do not include an unofficial translation of all supporting documents proving their professional experience either in English, French or German;
do not attach a copy of the ID card/Passport;
will be eliminated.
The Selection Committee will consider the applications, draw up the list of candidates who meet the job requirements, and select, on the basis of previously established criteria, a maximum of 20 candidates whose qualifications and duly attested periods of professional experience best match the tasks to be carried out, who will be admitted to the tests. It will base its decision on the information given on the application form and substantiated by the supporting documents attached to it.
Candidates will receive an e-mail informing them of the Selection Committee’s decision on whether to admit them to the tests.
If, at any stage in the procedure, it is established that the information given in your application form is incorrect or is not substantiated by supporting documents, or that all the conditions set out in the recruitment notice are not met, you will be disqualified.
The tests will consist of 3 written tests and an oral test to be carried out in English. Only the candidates invited to the tests will receive detailed information on the nature, duration and scoring of the tests.
INCLUSION ON THE LIST OF SUITABLE CANDIDATES
The Selection Committee will draw up a list of suitable candidates from among those who have obtained at least 60% of the points for the tests as a whole (written and oral combined) and have obtained the minimum mark required for each of them. The best 8 scored candidates (3 of German language, 3 of Polish language and 2 of Bulgarian language) will be listed in order of merit.
CONDITIONS OF RECRUITMENT
Candidates included on the list of suitable candidates will be eligible to be recruited as the need arises in the EPP Group.
Recruitment will be at grade AST1 and several posts are to be filled in.
The list of suitable candidates will have an initial validity of two years. It can be extended. If so, the candidates on the list will be duly informed.
Short-listed candidates who are offered a job will in due course be required to produce the originals of their diploma(s), degree(s) and employment certificates for verification.
