Let's take a moment to look at the Roger Fortson case.
An active duty senior airman alone in his off-base apartment with only his dog to keep him company. He had been home maybe 30 minutes, relaxing, playing games, and facetiming his girlfriend when suddenly he had the sheriff's office banging on his door and demanding that he open the door.
Not being able to see who was on the other side of the door, he grabbed his legally owned gun and held it down by his side as he went to open the door. Remember that it was down by his side and not held up or aimed in any way at anybody.
As soon as he opened the door, the deputy ordered him to step back, and within seconds of the door opening, he shot Fortson 6 times.
As Fortson lay on the floor bleeding out, he ordered him to drop the gun and not move. Don't move?! He's laying on the floor bleeding with 6 gunshot wounds, where the fuck is he gonna go?! Now lets also talk about this shoot first ask questions later mentality the deputy displayed. He didn't tell Fortson to drop the gun before shooting but waited til after he was bleeding on the floor to issue that order.
Why did this all even happen? Because some random woman, presumably a neighbor, called and reported a domestic disturbance in progress. She claimed to hear yelling and someone being slapped, and she claimed this all came from Fortson's apartment. She specifically identified his apartment number, where he was alone with only his dog. The cops took her word as infallible. Then, after they killed him, she changed her story and said she wasn't actually sure which apartment the noise was coming from. Excuse the fuck outta me? Her extremely incorrect and probably fabricated report led to the murder of a service member.
Don't make any mistake about it. This was murder plain and simple. We need to hold our police accountable. Even our service members aren't safe from trigger-happy cops.
Protect and serve doesn't equal shoot first and ask questions later.

hey you know what makes me afraid for the future? the fact that most people who become police officers from now on definitely saw all the bullshit that we tried to call out and put a stop to and they’ll still become a police officer. They’ll see the discrimination and the brutality and they’ll go ‘i’m fine with that’ and they’ll become a cop. There’s no way you go into this blind. We’re all on the internet and that’s made it impossible not to hear the rally cries. I want to believe many police officers who just wanted to serve the public and protect people. The job may be shit but I’d like to believe the people are good. Still, I can’t imagine anyone from this generation going into it for any of the right reasons. They heard us scream for justice and scream for our lives and they will be happy to ignore us.

A DISCLAIMER TO ALL !! i do not in anyway support funding the police or condone the military. this user is fiercely #acab and i stand firmly on that belief. fuck the military, fuck the government and fuck the cops
i only allow myself to indulge in this fan base because it is purely fictional.
do not glorify the military and make sure you are actively educating yourself on the harm the military is continuously perpetrating to those in and around it.

“But if we defund the police who will protect us?” “But if we have no police who will you call when your in danger?” “We need police to keep us safe”
No, fuck you
I had to call 911 while I was at work (I’m a hotel concierge) and the woman who I’m calling to have removed is standing across from me screaming at me while I try and speak to the operator. By the time the police arrive (45+ mins later) I’ve managed to get the woman to leave (after she spent 30+ mins screaming at me and harassing guest) and after I told the cop he goes “cool, it all worked out!” I spent almost an hour shaking and had to lock the doors early.
I’ve had to call cops to come “deescalate ” situations several times and they have NEVER helped the situation, not once.
Once or twice a month a cruiser will come sit in the parking lot for about 5 hours and give ticket after ticket all day.
Defund police because they aren’t providing a useful service, defund police because they don’t arrive quick enough to actually do something and when they do they make the situation worse, defund police because they only put effort in their job is when they need to meet a quota, defund police because when I comes to MY SAFTEY it will ALWAYS be in MY HANDS!
Defund the police because when your calling as a person of colour you shouldn’t have to hope you get a “good cop” defund the police because I will NEVER call them when I’m having an issue with a black man because whatever he’s doing won’t be worth his death.
DEFUND THE FUCKING POLICE BECAUSE ITS A SYSTEM THAT WAS PUT IN PLACE TO PROTECT PRIVILEGED PEOPLE AND PRIVILEGED PEOPLE ONLY!! AND EVEN NOW IT BARELY DOES THAT!!

I have known Linda for a long time. And it is heartbreaking to report she is now in hospice. Complications of brain damage sustained from the rubber bullet that took her eye. She was shot by police while covering the George Floyd rallies, even though she was holding up her journalism badge.
It’s the second friend I’m losing this summer.
