Why do a lot of detransitioners dislike the transgender community?

Here’s my take: people who are anti-trans often fall into two groups. One is folks who detransitioned because of external pressures, like conversion therapy or lack of support, and are left carrying emotional scars. The other is people who were in a vulnerable place emotionally when they explored their gender but didn’t find what they were hoping for—maybe they were told transitioning would solve their problems, and when it didn’t, they felt betrayed or unsupported.

Some detransitioners, especially those who didn’t have the right support or resources, might carry resentment toward people who successfully transition. They might also feel that, because they realized they weren’t trans, others must be “confused” too. It’s like, “If I got it wrong, maybe you’re getting it wrong too.” A lot of the time, this can come from a place of wanting to protect others from the pain they went through, but sometimes it’s about projecting their own hurt and bitterness onto others.

In the end, it often boils down to pain—whether the good intention is to stop others from making mistakes or the not-so-good intention is to want others to feel the hurt they did.
