INTRODUCING ISLAM TO BEGINNERS, ESPECIALLY TO NON-MUSLIMS
Islam is the religion of the Muslims, a monotheistic faith regarded as revealed through Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him (SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam) as the final Prophet of God Almighty (Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala).
In Arabic, Islām means ‘SUBMISSION,' from 'aslama which means to ‘SUBMIT (to the Will of God Almighty),' The word ISLAM in Arabic also means PEACE.
HOW DOES ONE BECOME A MUSLIM?
To become a Muslim, one simply declares the testimony of faith (in Arabic, it is called the Shahadah) with full conviction, in the presence of a witness.
We wish to clarify that the whole matter is very easy, plain and simple, No certificate. No money exchanged, and No water dipping.
The testimony of faith in Arabic is:
اشهدانلاإلهإلااللهواشهدانمحمدالرسولالله
Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illAllah
I bear witness that there is nothing worthy of worship except God Almighty [Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala].
Wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadar Rasul Allah,
and I bear witness that Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah.
FIVE (5) PILLARS OF ISLAM
The Shahadah is the first pillar of Islam and that is what makes one a Muslim. The five (5) pillars of Islam consist of:
The testimony of faith (Shahadah)
2. Five daily prayers (Salat)
3. Giving charity to the needy (Zakat)
4. Fasting the month of Ramadan (Saum)
5. Performing the Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah) once in one’s lifetime, if able to do it.
ARTICLES OF FAITH
Faith is to believe in Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), His Angels, His Books (including the Holy Torah and the Holy Bible), His Messengers (from Adam to Jesus to Muhammad), the Last Day (Day of Judgement), and to believe in the providence, its good and its perceived harm.
IHSAN
Excellence is to worship Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) as if you see Him, or if you do not see Him, know that He surely sees you.
REFERENCES:
Surah Al-Baqarah 2, Ayah 208
O believers! Enter into Islam wholeheartedly and do not follow Satan’s footsteps. Surely he is your sworn enemy.
_____________
Surah Ali 'Imran 3, Ayah 19
True Religion, in God’s eyes, is Islam [devotion to Him alone]. Those who were given the Scripture did not dispute ˹among themselves˺ out of mutual envy until knowledge came to them. Whoever denies Allah’s signs, then surely Allah is swift in reckoning.
_____________
Surah Ali 'Imran 3, Ayah 85
Whoever seeks a way other than [Islam] complete devotion to God Almighty, it will not be accepted from them, and in the Hereafter they will be among the losers.
_____________
Surah Al-Ma'idah 5, Ayah 3
Forbidden to you are carrion, blood, and swine; what is slaughtered in the name of any other than Allah; what is killed by strangling, beating, a fall, or by being gored to death; what is partly eaten by a predator unless you slaughter it; and what is sacrificed on altars.
You are also forbidden to draw lots for decisions. This is all evil. Today the disbelievers have given up all hope of ˹undermining˺ your faith. So do not fear them; fear Me!
Today I have perfected your faith for you, completed My favor upon you, and chosen Islam as your way. But whoever is compelled by extreme hunger—not intending to sin—then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
______________
Surah At-Tawbah 9, Ayah 33
He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with ˹true˺ guidance and the religion of truth, making it prevail over all others, even to the dismay of the polytheists.
_____________
Surah Al-Fath 48, Ayah 28
He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with ˹right˺ guidance and the religion of truth, making it prevail over all others. And sufficient is Allah as a Witness.
____________
Surah As-Saff 61, Ayah 6
And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad." But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic."

Surah Al-Anbya Surah, 21 Ayah 77
And We made him [Noah] prevail over those who had rejected Our signs. They were truly an evil people, so We drowned them all.

THE COMPANIONS OF THE PROPHET (PBUH) : Thumama bin Uthal (r.a.)
It was after the Migration. The struggle between belief and unbelief was going on severely. The sun of Islam was enlightening more and more people as days went by. The Prophet (pbuh) sent envoys to the tribes living around Madinah and invited them to Islam. He accepted the envoys sent by them and entertained them.
Once, Thumama bin Uthal came to visit the Messenger of Allah. Thumama was the chief of the tribe of Yamama living near the Persian Gulf. The purpose of Thumama in his visit was to kill the Messenger of Allah.
When he was in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, he tried to attack the Messenger of Allah. However, the Companions of the Prophet prevented Thumama. During the tumult, Thumama managed to run away. The Messenger of Allah gave a decree that Thumama be killed where he was found. He also prayed Allah so that he would be caught.
A long time passed after that incident. Once, Thumama set off to go to Makkah for umrah, which was a religious practice during the Era of Ignorance. He was going to pass near Madinah. When he approached Madinah, he was caught by the Islamic cavalrymen who were patrolling. They did not know who Thumama, about whom there was a decree to be killed, was; so, they took him to the presence of the Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah recognized Thumama as soon as he saw him.  He turned to the Companions around him and asked them,
"Do you know who he is? He is Thumama bin Uthal. Treat him as a good captive. Do not hurt him.”
By treating Thumama, who had wanted to kill him, well, the Messenger of Allah showed his vast compassion and mercy. Then, he went home and said to his family,
"Get what food you can and send it to Thumama ibn Uthal." When the Messenger of Allah passed by him, he asked,
“O Thumama! What do you have to say for yourself?” he said,
“O Muhammad! I have goodness in my heart. If you kill me, you will kill a bloody-minded person. If you do me a favor, you will do a favor to a person who appreciates a favor. If you want money in compensation, I shall give you whatever amount you ask.”
The Messenger of Allah visited Thumama three days on end and asked the same question. He received the same answer. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah showed his mercy and did something that Thumama could not dream of. He forgave Thumama and said, "Set him free."
Upon this order, the Companions set him free. All of the hatred and enmity in the heart of Thumama were replaced by gleams of love and belief when he saw that he was forgiven though he was expecting to be killed. He ran to the palm grove near the mosque. He washed himself and his clothes there. After being cleaned from material dirt, he went into the presence of the Messenger of Allah, ready for spiritual cleaning. He uttered kalima ash-shahadah and spoke as follows in tears:
"By Allah, there was never on this earth a face more detestable than yours. Now, yours is the dearest face of all to me. I swear that there was never on this earth a religion more detestable than yours. Now, yours is the dearest religion of all to me. There was never on this earth a land more detestable than yours. Now, yours is the dearest land of all to me."
Thus, a ferocious polytheist of yesterday became a mujahid of Islam today thanks to the vast mercy of the Messenger of Allah. Thumama asked permission from the Messenger of Allah to perform umrah in the Islamic way. When he gave permission, he set off for Makkah. When he was about to enter Makkah, he began shouting "Labbayk Allakumma labbayk. (Here I am at Your command O Lord, Here I am.)" Thus, he declared that he had become a Muslim. The polytheists got very angry. They grabbed him and wanted to kill him without thinking that he was the leader of Yamama. However, some polytheists intervened and said, “We need Yamama for food. Set him free.” They set Thumama free. However, Thumama was not afraid of them. He said,
“I have decided to follow the best religion. I follow the religion of Muhammad. I became a Muslim. I swear by Allah that I will not give you any grains of wheat without the permission of Muhammad (pbuh)."
When Thumama returned to his land, he did what he had said. His people embraced Islam thanks to him. He prevented the polytheists from taking any cereals from Yamama. The polytheists started to undergo a great difficulty. They wrote a letter to the Messenger of Allah and told him that they were in trouble and hungry. They even sent Abu Sufyan to him.  Abu Sufyan went into the presence of the Messenger of Allah and said, "Did you not say that you were sent as mercy for all realms?" He asked the Prophet to help lift the boycott. The polytheists, who once applied a boycott of food and drinks against the Messenger of Allah and Muslims because they opposed their wrong religion, now asked mercy from him.
The Messenger of Allah showed that he was really mercy for all realms. He did not treat them in retaliation. He wrote a letter to Thumama:
"Lift the boycott of food and drinks. Do not prevent the polytheists from taking supplies Makkah."
Upon this order of the Messenger of Allah, Thumama lifted the boycott.
One of the greatest services of Thumama was his struggle against Musaylima, who was an impostor that emerged in Yamama, after the death of the Messenger of Allah. He preached to his people and prevented them from going astray by following Musaylima. According to some narrations, Thumama was martyred by polytheists.
May Allah be pleased with him!

Could you please give information about Kalima Ash-Shahadah?
The sentence which is essential for entering Islam. This Arabic sentence is as follows: "Ashadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh.” (I witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and messenger) Kalima ash-shahadah consists of two parts that express oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh). It is witnessed that there is no god but Allah in the first part and that Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) is Allah’s slave and messenger in the second part. The witnessing means definite knowledge and the utterance of the belief through the tongue.
Islam consists of accepting the oneness of Allah and what the Messenger brought from Allah. All of the other fundamentals of belief, and the commands and prohibitions that arrange life of man and the community are included in the belief in Allah and what His messenger brought. Therefore, kalima ash-shahadah is the most concise sentence expressing Islam; its utterance means the acceptance of Islam wholly. When a person says that there is no god but Allah, it means he believes in the existence of Allah with all of the names and attributes that are defined in the Quran; when he says Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave and messenger, it means he believes all of the commands, prohibitions and news he brought from Allah and he accepts that he has to obey them. That Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) is defined as the slave of Allah in the same sentence means the messenger must not be elevated and deified as Christians and others did.
When a person utters kalima ash-shahadah, he becomes a Muslim and a member of the Islamic community. He owns all the rights that Islamic law gives Muslims. If he is a member of a community that is in a state of war against Muslims, he will have immunity. He cannot be killed, held captive, and his property cannot be confiscated. Nobody can be forced to utter kalima ash-shahadah; the kalima ash-shahadah of a person who is forced to utter it is not valid. However, a person who utters kalima ash-shahadah of his own free will is expected to learn and act in accordance with the rules and obligations of Islam, which he declared to be a member of.

PODSERIES: KEY TO PARADISE – PART 1 OF 3
Tumblr media
There are many Hadiths of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, which advises mankind that whoever testifies that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Exalted, and that the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is the servant and final messenger of Allah, the Exalted, will be saved from the fire of Hell. One such example is found in Sahih Bukhari, number 128.
The meaning of these Hadiths is that whoever dies while believing in this testimony will either enter Paradise and escape Hell or they will enter Hell to the extent of their sins and then eventually be allowed into Paradise where they will dwell forever. This has been advised in a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 7510.
It is important to note, that those who desire to enter Paradise without entering Hell first must not only declare their belief in Islam but they must also fulfil its conditions and obligations. The testimony of faith is undoubtedly the key to Paradise but a key needs teeth in order to unlock a specific door. The teeth of the key to Paradise are its obligations and duties. Without them meaning, the key without its teeth, will not open the door to Paradise. This is proven through many Hadiths which indicate entry into Paradise requires one to fulfil the conditions and duties of Islam. For example, a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 1397, indicates that the testimony must be supported by actions in the form of the pillars of Islam, such as establishing the obligatory prayers.
The first part of the testimony namely, there is none worthy of worship save Allah, the Exalted, means that Allah, the Exalted, is the only One who must be obeyed and never disobeyed. When one accepts Allah, the Exalted, as their God they must not obey anything which leads to His disobedience as Allah, the Exalted, alone is their Master and they are only His slaves. But the moment one obeys anything which leads to the disobedience of Allah, the Exalted, then they have corrupted their belief in His Oneness which has been indicated in chapter 45 Al Jathiyah, verse 23:
“Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire…”

Via Youtube: Tawheed on 17th Sep, 2020 13. The ruling on enunciating the Shahadah [Noor ala alDarb, Shaikh ibn Baz, Vol1] Language: English Q: Does mere articulation of Shahadah (Testimony of Faith) protect render one's blood and property inviolable? Is it sufficient to utter Shahadah without knowing the meaning of it? Does uttering Shahadah entail admitting the utterer into Jannah (Paradise) and save them from the Hellfire? [Vol. 1, Page No. 50-52] A: The phrase 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadun rasul-ul-llah (There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger ﷺ )' constitutes the foundation of faith. One who utters these words will be rightfully called a Muslim whose blood may not be legally spilt and whose property may not be lawfully seized. One must be taught the meaning this phrase, and if one accepts its embodied truth and becomes an upright Muslim, it is a testimony of their honesty and truthfulness. However, the confession of Shahadah is of no benefit if one continues to worship idols, trees, stones or dead people; or continues to ridicule and insult Islam, or commits any other act that nullifies their belief in Islam. They would then be considered Murtad (apostate). Therefore, one who enunciates Shahadah is considered a Muslim unless they commit an act which renders them Murtad. The Prophet (ﷺ) stated: Whoever changes their faith, kill them) Thus, a Kafir (disbeliever) who declares Shahadah will be judged as a Muslim, since this was the general rule during the Prophet's lifetime. This has been authentically established in the Hadith narrated by Usamah and similar Hadiths narrated by Ibn `Umar and Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: I have been commanded to fight against the people until they bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger ﷺ ). The Hadith means that by fulfilling the essential requirements of Shahadah, one is guaranteed protection of one's life and property as well. If one continues to adhere to Allah's Din (religion of Islam), they are treated like any other Muslim. However, their confession of Shahadah is of no avail if they continue their polytheist practices. The Munafiqun (those who claim to be Muslims yet conceal their disbelief) will dwell in the depths of the Hellfire despite their proclamation of faith. They will enter the Hellfire because they did not act upon Shahadah, and rather denied Allah and His Messenger. Allah (Glorified be He) revealed the following Ayahs (Qur`anic verses) concerning them: If you ask them (about this), they declare: "We were only talking idly and joking." Say: "Was it at Allah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ), and His Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations) and His Messenger ﷺ ). This is because Shahadah becomes effective only when one fulfills its essential requirements. If one fails to meet these requirements, their Shahadah will be of no avail to them. Help is to be sought from Allah Alone. https://binbaz.org.sa/fatwas/18599/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AD%D9%83%D9%85-%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%B3%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85-%D9%84%D9%85%D9%86-%D9%86%D8%B7%D9%82-%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B4%D9%87%D8%A7%D8%AF%D8%AA%D9%8A%D9%86-%D9%85%D8%A7-%D9%84%D9%85-%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%A8%D9%86%D8%A7%D9%82%D8%B6-%D9%85%D9%86-%D9%86%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%82%D8%B6%D9%87 #Islam #Quran #Hadith #Sunnah #Fatwa

I how came to Islam
For the majority of my life, I had been seeking religion and God.
Like many Americans, I grew up in a Western family who identified as Christian even though we stopped going to church when I was seven. I went to Sunday school, went to Christian schools for middle and high school, and even my Grandfather was a retired priest. As a child, I turned to God for answers. Why did it rain? Because God was crying. What happened when you died? Easy, Jesus took you to Heaven if you were good and Hell if you were evil.
My faith in Christianity was on shakey ground by the time I was in sixth grade. I no longer believed God controlled the weather and life after death seemed like a hoax. How could anyone really know that? Plus the Bible was written thousands of years ago, and they didn't have science back then to explain things so obviously, religion was just a primitive way of explaining the world. My tween self knew better than to be so ignorant (I cringe when I think about how arrogant I was). I grew to hate religion. All organized religion was evil to me- religion caused death, oppression, and violence, no exceptions. Puberty also didn't help at all with my negative outlook lol. Still, even though I no longer believed in Christianity and huge, organized religions, I had a soft spot for faith and ritual. For two years I went "religion shopping." I looked around mostly at pagan religions since I naively thought that they were harmless and victims of the misogynistic men of the Christian church. I very briefly became a Wiccan haha.
It took me years to realize this, but I think this period of my life was the beginning of my search for God. I went from believing in God because I was a child with a narrow perspective to jumping from religion to religion because my subconscious knew that something was wrong. I fully believe that God was keeping my faith in Him alive knowing one day I would return to Him. I was looking for Him but did not have the tools or knowledge to find Him. I was not a Christian, which was why I could never truly believe in Christ or many other Christian doctrines. But, I was 14 and couldn't find anything that spoke to my heart and allowed me to have a relationship with God. I didn't know about Islam much either, which is shocking considering I grew up in the wake of 9/11. I think the only thing I knew about Islam as a young teen was that they called their (didn't know it was the same God even!) Allah and spoke Arabic. Anyways, the Summer before my freshman year (1st year) of high school, I gave up on my search and went back to being a Christian. I could not deny that I believed in the God spoken about in the Bible and after I had come to this conclusion I began to feel stirrings in my heart. God was giving me signs that I was on the right track, but when I prayed, I felt nothing. In church, I felt nothing. I felt God but could not connect with Him in the way I was taught.
I went to a Catholic high school, so I was told plenty on what True Christians® believe. Go to Mass, recite the Lord's Prayer, confess your sins, and believe with all your heart that Jesus is God/Son of God who had redeemed your soul. None of this made me feel closer to God, and I had so many questions. Going to a Catholic school, of course, we had a religion class. I loved my teacher, and no offense to him but all the answers to my questions felt either too convenient or shallow. Christianity felt like a world seen through rose-colored glasses were I was supposed to be happy with "Jesus is the answer" and "God works in mysterious ways!" Belief felt shallow and fragile. I was scared that if I asked myself or my teacher the wrong question, my faith would break forever. I understood that Christianity did not hold the answers I needed on a subconscious level but what else was I suppose to do? Anything else felt like I was turning my back on God which was the last thing I wanted to do. Being a creature of the 21st century, I had gone searching online for anything to strength my faith in Christianity, but nothing looked promising. Those that had taken their time to respond to my doubts gave me shallow responses or would go to such lengths to explain away an issue that they looked disingenuous. I was stuck in limbo, finding to near impossible to grasp on to the religion I had grown up with but unwilling to deny God.
It was around this point that I had stopped praying and stopped thinking about my faith and God. It was better to just live my life with religion in the background, never truly entering my conscious thought than to be in constant doubt of my faith. Then I learned about Islam. My religion class had a unit on World Religions; it was probably the first time I had ever learned about another religion in depth. When we began to read about Islam, something inside me clicked. The way Muslims explored their faith and strengthened their relationship with God every day through prayer almost had me in tears. Praying in Christianity felt selfish. In Islam, it was about submitting to God completely and selflessly. I knew that one day I was going to become a Muslim; I didn't even have to think about it, a voice inside me just said: "I'm going to convert." There was no doubt.
However, I did not become a Muslim right away. I am ashamed to say that it took me years to really sit down and commit to learning more about Islam and become serious about shahadah. I was scared of what my family and friends would think of me. I was afraid of what strangers may say or do if I walked outside wearing a hijab.  I've been called stupid, and an idiot for believing in God before and I was afraid of the type of backlash I would receive if I were to declare my faith.
I was also scared of jumping in too fast. What if I convert but then a few months later change my mind or do what I had been doing before and just forget all of the important aspects of being a Muslim and seek God for selfish reasons. If you read my description, you;d know that I'm 22. It was taken me years to muster up my courage and finally convert.
A few months ago, I opened up the Quran for the second time in my life, and I have never felt more at home. I have been studying and learning all I can about Islam. This blog, Inshaallah, will be a resource not only for myself as I document my conversion and connect with the community but for other converts as well. Being Muslim, and exploring your faith, is for life. And I am excited to begin it.

ISLAM 101: Basic Islamic Phrases: Part 5
Islamic Terms
Qadr: This term is often translated as “Destiny” or “Pre-destination.” This is not entirely accurate. It means literally “to measure.” The religious idea behind it is that Allah measured everything in the universe. The length of your life is “measured,” as is your fortune and your life’s circumstances.
Qiblah: The direction of Prayer. All Muslims make their prayers, or salat, facing Mecca. Allah commanded us to do this in the Qur'an as a show of unity and to remember Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) who built the first shrine there in that place so many thousands of years ago. Prophet Adam is said to have built an even older shrine many thousands of years before that in that very place.
Qur'an: This is the name of the Book Allah revealed to the Prophet Muhammad from the years 610-632. Allah revealed it in stages, one section at a time, as the Muslims were ready to follow it. It has 114 chapters called surahs. It was revealed in the Arabic language and has never been lost, changed or edited, like the Bible or Buddhist books have.
We have lots of translations of the Qur'an into English, but a translation can never be as good as the original words and their full meaning. All Muslims try to learn Arabic so they can read the Qur'an. Be advised, there are two different types of Arabic. The first is the language of the Qur'an, in other words, whatever vocabulary words are used in the Qur'an. The second type of Arabic is everyday Arabic, in other words, things that would help you talk about a sports game, a vacation or a day at the office. Many Muslims get bogged down by studying the second type of Arabic. You should work towards the first type if your main goal is to understand the Qur'an.

Pbuh: Peace Be Upon Him (said to invoke peace and blessings on the Prophet Mohammad)

Rab: Lord
Ramadan: The ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims are required to fast from before sunrise to sunset every day of this month. There are many details concerning this so consult the section on beliefs and practices.
Rasul: This term means Messenger.
Ruh: Your spirit or soul. Allah gave it to you on loan and thus you had better not sin and dirty it up.

Sabr: Patience
Sadaqah: Charity.
Sahaba: A companion of the Prophet.
Sahabiyat: The female companions of the Prophet.
Sajda: (Sujood) Bowing on the floor in prayer; prostration.
Salafi: This is the name of a group of Muslims who took stance of Abdul Wahaab who was a reformer. Their name is derived from the Salaf, (ancestors) which is a reference to the Sahaba and the generation immediately after them. They tend not to follow a madhab.
Salat: (or Salah) This means prayer, the prayer in which you stand, bow and prostrate. The literal meaning of the word is: to make a connection with.

Seerah: The biography of the life of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)
Shahadah: The Declaration of Faith. By believing in and declaring the following phrase, a person becomes a Muslim: “Ash hadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadar rasulullah.” “I declare that there is no god but Allah, and I declare that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” There are other ways to say this formula but this is the most common one. When a person accepts Islam, all his or her past sins are forgiven and his or her record is wiped clean and they start again from that moment as if they were just born.
Shaykh: Literally: Chief or Boss. It is the title that Muslims sometimes give to their scholars. It is not required in Islam but many people like to use this term.  Muslim clergy
Shari'ah: It is usually translated as Islamic Law. It means the path of Islam.
Shirk: This is the greatest and most terrible sin. It is the one sin that can keep your soul out of Paradise and doom you to Hellfire. It means making partners with Allah. If a person says that there are many gods, or says that Allah is divided up into different people (such as the Trinity teaching of Christianity) then they are committing Shirk. Allah said it is the one sin He won’t forgive if you die while doing it. The Blessed Prophet Muhammad once mentioned also that a person who likes to feel greatness in their heart was also committing a kind of Shirk. This is because all greatness is for Allah and we should always try to be humble. The Prophet also said, “La Yad khulu al Jannah min kana fee qal beehee mith qalu habbatin min kibr.” “They won’t enter Paradise, the one who has even a little bit of the love of greatness in their heart.”
Shaytan: (or Shaytan) It means Satan. (The literal meaning is to separate from.) Islam teaches that a Jinn named Iblis didn’t want to bow when Allah commanded a bunch of angels to bow down to Adam in respect of his knowledge. Iblis thought he was better than both humans and angels. Allah banished him to earth and let him have extended life until the Day of Judgment. That is because Iblis challenged Allah and said if he had time he would corrupt all human beings. Iblis’s name literally means “Frustrated.” He is also known as the Shaytan, or Satan.
Siyam (or Saum) Fasting.
Subhanullah: “Glory to Allah.” This phrase is said whenever we’re happy or when we see something wonderful or hear about something wonderful. We as Muslims should say it as often as we can because of its GREAT rewards.
Sufi: This is the name for a group of another sect of Muslims who want to be super-spiritually oriented. Sufis tend to try and be as close to the Sunnah as possible and they like to do group dhikr and chanting. While most Sufis are okay Islamically, there are a few groups that go way out and are close to being outside of Islam. Most Sufis you will encounter are of the okay kind. They are distinguished by their traditional Islamic dress and turbans. The word Sufi comes from the term for wool cloth, which was a material early Sufis liked to wear to emphasize how they didn’t want to be captured by the love of fineries in this world.
Sufis organize themselves into “orders” or groups, called Tariqas. These groups are headed by a leader called a Shaykh who is considered the most spiritual man with the most Taqwa among them. Some famous Sufi Tariqas that operate all over the world are the Naqshabandis and Qadiriyya. The most famous Sufi Muslim scholars that ever lived are Jalaluddin Rumi, Muhammad al Ghazali and Abdul Qadir Jilani.
Suhoof: “Scrolls.” This is the name of the revelation given to Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) about 4,000 years ago. It was lost.
Sunnah: The example or “way” of the Prophet. How he lived his life and what his practices were.
Sunni: This is the name of the largest sect or group of Muslims. This group amounts to about 85-90% of all Muslims world-wide. Sunni’s believe in the mission of the Prophet as he taught it and try very hard to adhere to the Prophet’s example with no changes. This doesn’t mean that Sunni’s are somehow the only 'true’ Muslims, however, because the Prophet never taught that we should even label ourselves Sunni’s or Shi'as.
Sunni Islam is just closer to real Islam because it is the way of the Prophet and his companions as well as the righteous predecessors. The best thing for a Muslim to do is to drop all the labels and just say, “I’m a Muslim."But there are many Muslims in the world who get emotional about wanting to call themselves some kind of label besides the basic, "I’m a Muslim.” Have patience with them and do what is right. The term Sunni comes from the title, “Ahl as-Sunnah wal Jam'a” which means, “People of the Example (of the Prophet) and the Main Group (of First Muslims).”
Surah: It is a chapter of the Qur'an. The word literally means “a step up in progression” or a “fence.”
Tafseer: Commentary or explanation of the Qur'an. Many Qur'an translations will have footnotes on the bottom of the page to help you understand the meaning of an ayah. That would be called Tafseer.
Taqwa: This term means many things at once. The first meaning is that you are always aware that Allah is watching you. This brings you to the second meaning and that is that you will try to be good always. Do you see how the two things wrapped together can be so beautiful? When a Muslim has Taqwa, we say they are “Aware of Allah” “Conscious of Allah” and striving to be righteous. The main meaning is the fear of allah, because if we fear him then we will not go astray.Allah loves those most who fear him the most.
Tauhid: Sometimes it’s spelled Tawheed. It means the Oneness of Allah. Allah has no partners, He is not divided up into parts and He is not in need of anyone to help Him in anything whatsoever.
Taurah: The revelation given to Prophet Musa (Moses). The first five books of the old testament in the Bible are said to be the “Torah” of Moses, but no serious Bible scholar, whether Jewish or Christian believes that anymore. Musa’s message was lost long ago. Just take a look, everything about Prophet Moses in the Bible is written in third person: “And Moses said this,” and “Moses went there,” Someone else wrote those things, certainly not Moses!

Tawakkol: Reliance on God
Ukhtee: Means “My sister.”
Wahy: This word means revelation or inspiration. When Allah was revealing His messages to the Prophet, we would say the Prophet was receiving “Wahy.” The Blessed Prophet once said that after him, all Wahy from Allah was finished except for one thing: dreams that can come true.
Wuduu: Washing for prayer.
Yowm ul Qiyamah: The Day of Judgment. (Literally: Day of rising.)Because that is the day all creation from the begining till the end will rise on the plains of arafat and be judged on their life and actions.
Zabur: The revelation given to Prophet Dawud (David). The Psalms in the Bible are not the pure Zabur. Christian scholars admit that at least half of the verses in Psalms were written by temple priests, government workers, etc, in ancient Israel. And no one knows which half are from Prophet Dawud and how many have been lost or altered.
Zakah: This is often translated as “Charity” or “Poor-due” but the literal meaning of the word is actually, “Purifying."Zakah is the third pillar of Islam. It involves giving 2.5% of your yearly wealth, after expenses, for the benefit of the poor and the needy. The "purifying” part comes in by learning not to be greedy. If you give some of your money for the sake of Allah to the poor, you make your heart less prone to greed.

ইসলামে প্রবেশ করুন শাহাদাহ ঘোষণা করে
