Idea!
Whomst???
So, let's take canon Danny Phantom. We can even take the AGIT, that would only make him canonically 16-17is for this scenario. (Btw, poor Val. I'm seriously so sorry for her)
Danny is flying around the Infinite Realms to familiarise himself with it better. Look, if he decided to be the Bridge, he has to learn more about the Ghost side of his life. Their customs, quirks, limits, world... from someone who isn't a Fruitloop or his parents. He is still ashamed that it took meeting Dairy King to finally realise that not all Ghosts are evil.
He got to a section of many, many, MANY, natural portals that led into completely different universes. Most of them even had Heroes!!!! He was so exited!
He visited many in the next few months. Made friends, confused the heck out of locals. Made some enemies, cause that's just his life.
Spiderman was cool! Iron Man was so fun to prank, the guy was a billionaire and hilarious.
Even if he never was able to speak with the vast majority, those Japanese Heroes with cool superpowers were awesome. He was kinda glad his world was normal-is tho. Call him judgmental, but come on, look him in the eyes and tell him that you wouldn't be weirded out by some of the mutations.
And now, he spotted his new target. From what he gathered, they were an urban legend of the gloomy as heck city. Robins,... bats? or something. Time to make friends!
And close the leakage of the Raw, unfiltered ectoplasm into here. He had only been around one for an hour and he saw how problematic it was.
Aka
Danny is a gremlin in canon. He found cool portals. He will make it other's problem.
Yes, he keeps his identity hidden. No, he doesn't stay invisible all the time. Only initially to get some info. After that? You'd spot him openly bothering the superheroes. And rogues. Can't let them be left out.
What are they gonna do? Kill him? They can't even touch him most of the time.

Little thing inspired by various Justice League summons Danny posts I've seen about.
.
Interdimensional travel was hard.
It was a true statement, and one that, in retrospect, was obvious. Of course interdimensional travel was hard. It was reaching out of your reality and into one that had an entirely different set of rules. However, having an interdimensional portal in one's basement tended to skew one's understanding of these things. That was why it took Danny so long to realize that the Observants were actually worried about him.
"Wait," he said, looking up from the (admittedly very passive-aggressive) report the crowd of Observants had just dropped on his (already crowded) desk. "You want to change my summoning ritual because you think other dimensions might hurt my human half?"
"Some of them certainly will," said one of the Observants, testily.
"I didn't know you cared about that," said Danny, still somewhat stunned.
"We normally wouldn't," admitted the Observant, "but although the position of Ghost King is, politically, a figurehead, you are metaphysically vital to the Realms as a whole. Damage to you is to be avoided, when possible."
"Uh huh," said Danny, looking back down at the summoning ritual change paperwork. Although, through a combination of Danny's own nature and the nature of time across dimensional barriers, Danny still looked fourteen and spent a great deal of his time going to school in Amity Park, he had years of experience interpreting the Observants' paperwork under his belt. "Yeah, it's just that I don't think this is the best way to, like. Do that."
"It is the best way to protect you!" said the Observant who had, apparently, been selected as the group's spokesperson.
"Maybe," agreed Danny, who wasn't entirely sure that was true. "But I feel like some of these modifications would kind of be a problem for wherever I wound up."
"Then they ought not to summon you."
While Danny agreed with that sentiment in spirit (getting summoned was almost always inconvenient and annoying), in practice, he wasn't so sure. "I don't think there's any way to communicate that to the guys who are summoning me. Like, some of them get me with old Pariah Dark rituals. And most of them don't really care if their mistakes screw over other people, so..."
"Next to the well-being of the Realms, that is a minor concern."
Danny didn't disagree with that, but he wasn't about to waste time arguing with the Observants about it. They just didn't get it. He tapped his finger on another section that was bothering him. "Also, this seems to keep me from getting out of the summoning circle at all. If someone is summoning me to ask for help, that's going to keep me from doing much."
"It will also keep you from inadvertently exiting into a hostile environment."
"Even in my home universe?" asked Danny, pointedly. "This seems like something more geared to imprisonment than protection."
The Observants were silent.
"Oh, come on, guys, really? Again?"
The Observants scattered.
Danny sighed and picked up the paperwork. He didn't think it was all bad ideas, honestly, but he needed a second opinion that hadn't tried to stuff him in the Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep Mark 2.
Maybe Clockwork would look it over for him.
.
"It isn't an entirely terrible concept," said Clockwork, "except for the obvious drawbacks."
"The whole being trapped in the summoning circle bit," said Danny.
Clockwork nodded. "To be fairer than they deserve, there is no way to modify that portion of a summoning ritual in some types of universes but not others. Not from our own side of things, in any case."
"And I mostly can't get at the other side," said Danny with a groan. He perched on the back of Clockwork's chair. "I do want to make sure that I, I don't know, fit with other universes enough that I won't completely demolish them just by existing."
Clockwork hummed. "There are some ways to do that. There are drawbacks, however."
"Bigger drawbacks than accidentally nuking a planet because my radiation is different than theirs?"
"It depends on your perspective, I suppose."
Danny sighed. "Go ahead and tell me, then."
Clockwork picked up a pen. "You are a shapeshifter. You have multiple forms, one of which cannot be harmed through any normal means and which similarly would have little negative affect on the environment unless you acted to cause negative effects. Change the current ritual so that a summoning puts you in that form, and then further change it so that you cannot leave the circle unless you are in a form that will not automatically cause harm or be harmed by the laws of that universe."
"You mean my Ghost King form."
"All your forms are your Ghost King form."
"You know what I mean."
"I do," said Clockwork, smiling.
"It freaks people out, though."
"Your current form might, as you say, freak people out," said Clockwork. "If your summoners were, say, ants."
"Is that likely?"
"Not particularly. But consider the multiverse. Not all of your summoners will be human."
Danny crossed his arms, frustrated that there wasn't an easy solution. "I guess I could always shapeshift into something nonthreatening after. Hard to see if it's something safe without running into
"You can do more than that."
"I can?"
"Yes," said Clockwork, setting the pen to paper. "Let me show you."
.
The summoning circle shimmered and shivered as Constantine and Zatanna recited the chant, their voices rising and falling. Batman and other members of the League stood by, watching, waiting.
This, this ritual, wasn't their first choice. It wasn't their second, third, or fourth choice, either. But nothing else they had tried worked, and the entire world was at stake.
They were summoning the King of All Ghosts. An eldritch monstrosity that had once tried to conquer all realities. But the alternative was worse. Much worst. At least, with the King of All Ghosts, there was a chance that they could negotiate and that it'd want the Earth more or less intact for the sake of conquering it. At least, with this kind of summoning, they could offer a sacrifice, a bargain, a deal.
And if Constantine was good at anything, it was deals.
The lines of the summoning circle flared green, then pure white, and, without any other fanfare, the King of All Ghosts was there.
It filled the circle with starry darkness, struck with nebulae and aurorae. The clouds rippled as a star died near its heart, fiery cataclysms spreading throughout the being. A crown like the accretion disk of a black hole burned around its highest extremity.
Something like a voice, echoing and many-layered, emanated from the being. "Nghftùsh phlarûm âzgûm (1)." It paused, and the League felt it examine the area more closely. "Ko wgâ âzgûm nghftùsh derza. Ko gok hubhûfh fhtù gâh mglwnuh...(2)"
Constantine swore. "Oh, bollocks, I don't know that one. Would it be too much to ask that one of these things speak English? Just a little?"
"Nghftùsh ak. Ko ngngi. (3)"
"Zatanna," said Batman, "could a spell let us understand one another?"
"Kù-nghînku bùr fùmúu umni snîgûrip. (4)" It seemed to bend closer for all that it didn't move. "Nghftùsh laglúfhâk krîk ko phlî ak phlorza. Chthe nî hîhnâ, ka. (5)"
"I think I understand a little," said Captain Marvel, raising a hand. "I think it understands us just fine."
"Hagthu. Nghftùsh ngngi ùk nî chthe kûmpù nû gâ. (6)"
"It wants to get out of the circle," said Captain Marvel.
The veils of green light that shrouded the being rippled. "Dal phlù. (7)"
"Not without an agreement in place, you're not," said Constantine.
"Gagthashîzgathg. (8)"
"God," whispered Flash, "that hurts my throat just hearing it."
Batman shot him a glare, then stepped forward. They'd prepared a list of demands. Most of them were negotiable, but it was better to start something like this with things you were willing to remove or throw away. It took several minutes for Batman to read the whole thing.
"Ku. Chthal lohúfhâk hagthu. Fhta nghftùsh kâk phlorza ko thru. (9)"
"What did it say?" asked Batman.
"I'm... I think it said it'll do it, but it needs something from us in return."
Batman nodded. They'd expected something like this. Whatever it asked for, it would, without a doubt, be exorbitant. Then, they'd go back and forth, reducing each of their demands until they'd reached a deal both sides hated, but could accept. Constantine had bet that, at minimum, the King of All Ghosts would want the entire population of Earth as slaves.
"Nghftùsh kâk hû ko mglwno nî phnglâ gho-lobi. (10)"
"Uh," said Captain Marvel. "I think he said one of our lives."
"Hik! Rlo phlarâk kruk nîk ghû. (11)"
"Not just any of us," said Marvel. "It has to be someone who's a parent."
A tension fell over the room. They'd known they'd have to sacrifice something. A single life wasn't much, but for the King of All Ghosts to specify a parent...
"But are you sure it's just one?" pressed Constantine.
The King of All Ghosts gave off a sense of... exasperation? "Úzg, hû. (12)"
"One," said Captain Marvel. "Just one."
"And just us, not our kids or anything?"
"Nghftùsh ngngi ùk e nghuu. Gù phlarâk fush ko du? (13)"
"No, it doesn't want children. They're... wrong, somehow?"
"And it's not a sex thing?" Constantine sounded... strangely hopeful.
"Hik! Fhtùl! (14)"
"No," said Captain Marvel. "And... something about fat, maybe?"
"Oh, we're definitely getting eaten, then," said Constantine, with forced cheer. "I volunteer, then. It's not like my kids are sitting up waiting for me or anything."
"Hik nuk. Ngngi ko. E hâta phlarâk lerzaolûm. (15)"
"Not you, there's... something wrong with your soul."
"Oh, he's a picky eater, too, huh?"
"Let's not antagonize him, okay?" said Flash. "He's kind of-- He's kind of looming, right now."
And so it was. Somehow. Without moving.
"Who will... satisfy you?" asked Batman.
The entity did not move, but it managed to indicate Batman anyway.
"Very well," said Batman, before anyone could even attempt to talk him out of it. After all, his life for the lives of everyone in this universe was a very good deal. "Take me."
For the first time, the King of All Ghosts moved, all that darkness, all that light, rushing towards Batman.
There was a burst of blinding light.
When everyone opened their eyes again, a boy with black hair, blue eyes, and a jawline that bore more than a passing resemblance to Batman's was stepping out of the summoning circle.
"That's much better," he said, stretching. "No offense, dude, but you kind of suck at Ghost Speak." He turned to Batman. "What I was asking for was a template so I could exist in your universe and do what you want without accidentally blowing it up because of incompatible physics, but whatever. Not sure how you guys got me eating you out of that."
"You wanted a human appearance so you could better conquer this world?" asked Batman.
"Uh, no? You've got a pretty strong clause against conquering the world in your paperwork there. You're probably thinking about Pariah Dark, but he's old news." The boy smiled widely. "Let's get started on your problem, okay?"
I've been summoned.
You haven't summoned me before. You have a nice space station here...
I can. You can't.
Inter-dimensional language differences are so annoying.
I hope you can do something. This will be difficult, otherwise.
Good. I don't want to be in this circle forever.
Close enough.
Figures (literally, 'certainly').
Okay. That sounds good. But I need something from you.
I need one of you to be my template (literally, life-pattern).
No! It's like being a parent.
Yes, one.
I don't want your children. What is wrong with you?
No! Gross!
No way. Not you. You're crazy (literally, your soul is cracked).

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Powehouse AU: aka Danny Fenton tries to be a normal college student in the midwest yet is forced to continue to be a hero in secret as ghosts won't leave him alone and soon, neither will the Justice League when he pops up as a new hero.
Additional info and art under readmore:
ANYWAYS, here is some powerhouse au information.
Tumblr media
Danny as he grows up manages to keep the ghost situation under control to a point he isn't overly active as Phantom. He finishes highschool no problem and goes to uni over in Central City for Maths and Engineering (not an overtly big fan of the space motif and instead, I'm shoving my boy into something cooler: PLANES! He's studying specifically mechanical engineering and has plans to go to a trade school after his B.S. for A&P mechanics.)
Sam goes to Gotham State University for Ethnobotany and works in one of the unis library part time. Tucker is going to Star City College for Computer Science and a minor in archeology, he tutors part time.
Danny's main design is inspired by a combo of military and blue collar uniforms (you can also see exactly what I reference). I also couldn't decide a face mask so you get all three options.
Tumblr media
So as Danny moves to Central City and attends uni, his rouges do sadly follow him and wreck havoc. Danny is stressed from school so he doesn't do quips as much, in fact, he's trying to get this under control as fast as possible so he can go back and study. Here's the thing, no one outside of Amityville has seen Phantom so all of the sudden what seems to be a meta? an alien? something not human? coming out and taking down rouges that, due to being ghosts, other heros struggle to contain and handle.
Speculation rises about Phantom and who he is. Danny is smart and thought this through, kinda. His costume is a modified look what he wore as a kid but he pulls in more military/uniform aspects to make it seem like he belongs to someone or some organization. That maybe somewhere in the US, an organization managed to make a hero of sorts that mimics Green Lanterns. It's just a big red herring, Danny wants them to look for someone older, probably more experienced, and a different background. Not some tired college student struggling with his studies.
Things do start to get dicey when heroes actively try to interact with him, mostly the Flash (because Central City), Superman, and the Green Lantern. Most interactions end up with Phantom not wanting to fight and fleeing or when cornered to fight, he's messy and inexperienced compared to the other heroes. He doesn't stay around and rarely even talks. It's concerning more so because the heroes aren't sure with who they're dealing with and after a few interactions, they aren't sure Phantom is on their side. Just too many questions around him.
This leads to heroes actively trying to capture and bring in Phantom. The more failed attempts that happen, the more flightly Phantom acts when they end up interrupting him capturing his rouges. They do eventually capture Phantom (thank you Superman) and that's kinda where I end on information on this AU. It's just me having fun with interactions and also designing costumes :)
ALSO DANNY IS ROMA/DIDICOY I NEED TO MENTION THAT!!! (Dick Grayson 🤝 Danny Fenton being didicoy)

So I had another idea come at me while making lunch (I'm starting to sense a pattern with myself, lmao)
What if when Jazz sends out letters to the colleges she wants to get into, she gets sent rejection letters from every single one... except the local community college. She's absolutely devastated about it. She thought that she did everything she could to be chosen. How could every single one reject her?
Danny, of course, hears about it and asks Tucker to check and see if something happened digitally. Surely, Technus or Vlad or someone messed with something to sabotage her. But when Tucker checks, there's absolutely nothing wrong. She still has her perfect grades and attendance record all set with no marks. Her community service hours are all there. It's only when he looks at the letters themselves that he finds the problem...
After looking online to see what the letters look like, he comes to a puzzling realization... the letters were fake. It's a good fake, but it's not the real thing. The signatures were off, and the writing had been changed.
This is what leads him down the rabbit hole.
He tries to ask about it online to ask others who've also been rejected. Except nobody is answering him.
Sam tries to call the numbers listed on the websites of the colleges... but the person who answers is strangely unknowledgeable about the college they represent.
The only college that seems normal about it was the nearby community college. And that somehow feels the least normal about everything.
It was only when he heard his mom complaining that they never heard from family anymore after they moved to Amity that he figured it out.
Containment. Nothing is leaving Amity. No emails, texts, letters, or posts online. Everything was being blocked.
Of course, this sends him on a mission as to why and how. He spends weeks on it. Sam and Danny actually began to become concerned for him. No, this isn't a pride thing, Sam. And yes, he is taking care of himself, Danny.
Technus is the one who gives him the answer. It was just a passing comment about how he needed to funnel through the GIW in order to infect the world. It didn't make sense to any of them because surely that's the last place you would want to do that. But then it dawned on Tucker. That's who has the power needed to do it! That's where he needed to look!
So he hacks into the GIW and is astonished by what he finds.
The anti ecto acts aren't real. There's no laws even acknowledging ghosts.
There's a file on Phantom, marked as 'candidate for X'.
And all he can find on the containment is a name he's seen described as the creator of the GIW and the main supplier of funds.
Amanda Waller.

laughed it off (dr3)
✦ summary - y/n overhears danny's friends being mean about her and danny just laughs along.
✦ pairing - daniel ricciardo x female!reader
✦ genre - angst, tears, fluffy ending
Tumblr media
The sun was shining brightly as Daniel Ricciardo and his girlfriend, Y/N, enjoyed a perfect day on a luxurious yacht with a few of Daniel's close friends. The group was lively, laughter echoing across the deck as the boat sailed smoothly through the sparkling blue water.
Y/N, as usual, was at the center of the energy, cracking jokes, dancing to the music, and playfully splashing water at Daniel. Her infectious spirit matched Daniel's own perfectly—they were a dynamic duo, known for their shared enthusiasm and zest for life.
“C’mon, Danny, let’s see those dance moves!” Y/N teased, tugging at his hand to pull him onto the makeshift dance floor at the back of the yacht.
Daniel laughed, letting himself be pulled along. “You sure you’re ready to be out-danced by an Aussie, babe?” he teased back.
“Oh, please! I’ve seen you dance, remember?” Y/N winked at him, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
As they danced, one of Daniel’s friends, a guy Y/N hadn’t met until today, leaned over to the others and whispered something. Y/N couldn’t quite hear, but she noticed Daniel glance in their direction, his usual wide grin dimming slightly.
Feeling a bit parched, Y/N decided to grab a drink and headed toward the small bar set up near the front of the yacht. As she reached for a glass, she overheard a snippet of the conversation Daniel’s friends were having behind her, not realizing she was within earshot.
"Man, she's exhausting, isn't she?" one of them muttered, just loud enough for Y/N to hear. "Can she ever sit still? I don't know how you put up with it, Dan."
Another friend chuckled, adding, "Yeah, it's like she's always on a sugar rush or something. Must be draining to be around that all the time."
Y/N froze, her hand gripping the glass tightly as her heart plummeted. She felt like someone had just punched her in the gut. They were talking about her. Her, the girl who had thought she was fitting in perfectly with Daniel's friends, being the life of the party. But now, all she could feel was a wave of humiliation crashing over her.
She glanced over at Daniel, hoping—praying—he would say something, defend her, tell them they were wrong. But instead, she saw him chuckle softly, looking a bit awkward but not saying anything to counter their remarks.
It was as if the ground had slipped out from beneath her. Her mind raced, trying to process what she had just heard and what it meant. Did Daniel really feel the same way? Was she too much? Was her energy that overwhelming?
She quickly composed herself, forcing a smile as she approached the group. Daniel noticed her coming and smiled at her, his eyes full of the usual warmth that always made her feel safe. But now, that warmth felt like a burning sting, a reminder of the words she had just overheard.
“Hey, babe,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady, “I think I might need to sit this one out. I’m feeling a little queasy… Must be the sun.”
Daniel’s smile faltered with concern. “You okay, love? Do you need anything?”
“No, no, I’ll be fine,” she assured him quickly, avoiding his gaze. “Just need to lie down for a bit.”
Without waiting for a response, she turned and made her way to the lower deck, her heart heavy with a sadness she hadn’t felt in a long time.
time skip
Y/N couldn’t get off the yacht fast enough. She managed to keep a neutral expression during the ride home, but the moment she walked through the front door of their apartment, her carefully held composure began to crumble.
Maybe I am too much… Maybe I should tone it down… The thoughts whirled in her mind as she numbly kicked off her shoes and headed to the bedroom. Normally, she would have felt a twinge of guilt for leaving a gathering so abruptly, but all she felt now was a deep ache in her chest. She pulled out her laptop, trying to lose herself in work, anything to distract her from the sinking feeling in her heart.
The hours ticked by slowly, and before long, she heard the familiar sound of the front door opening. Daniel was home. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the encounter.
“Y/N, I’m back!” Daniel’s voice was full of its usual cheer as he walked into the bedroom, expecting to see her bounding over to him with one of her trademark hugs and kisses. But instead, he found her sitting up in bed, her laptop on her lap, staring intently at the screen.
She glanced up at him and gave a small, forced smile. “Hey,” she said softly before returning her attention to the screen. “Just finishing up some work stuff.”
Daniel frowned, his heart sinking a little. That’s… different. Usually, Y/N would leap up and throw her arms around him, peppering his face with kisses and asking him about his day with an enthusiasm that always lifted his spirits. But tonight, there was none of that. Just a quick smile and back to work.
“You okay?” he asked, trying to sound casual as he approached the bed.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she replied, her voice too calm, too controlled. “Just a bit tired.”
Daniel studied her for a moment, noticing how she avoided eye contact. Something’s off. But he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. She wasn’t usually this distant.
“Alright,” he said slowly, leaning in to kiss the top of her head, but she barely reacted, just nodding absently as she continued to type away.
She must really be tired, he thought, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling settling in his chest. But it didn’t go away.
Later, as they both got ready for bed, the sense of wrongness only grew stronger. They usually had fun together during their nighttime routine, making goofy faces in the mirror or playfully shoving each other out of the way for space at the sink. But tonight, Y/N was eerily quiet, methodically brushing her teeth and washing her face without any of the usual banter. Daniel tried to catch her eye, to get her to laugh or smile, but she seemed lost in her thoughts, distant in a way that made his stomach twist uncomfortably.
What happened today? he wondered as he watched her move about the room. He wanted to ask, to push for answers, but something told him now wasn’t the time. He didn’t want to pressure her if she wasn’t ready to talk.
When they finally climbed into bed, Daniel reached out to pull her into his arms like he did every night. But to his surprise, Y/N turned the other way, her back to him.
“Goodnight,” she murmured, her voice barely audible.
“Goodnight,” Daniel replied, though his voice was thick with confusion. What’s going on?
As Y/N lay there, facing away from him, she stared blankly at the wall, her mind replaying the cruel words she had overheard on the yacht. Her chest tightened with each memory, the laughter, the dismissive comments, and worst of all, Daniel’s silence. How can he just laugh along? Do they all think that about me? Does he? The questions spun endlessly in her mind, each one cutting deeper than the last.
Daniel lay beside her, staring up at the ceiling, his heart heavy with worry. Something’s really wrong. I just don’t know what. He desperately wanted to reach out to her, to hold her, but the way she had pulled away made him hesitate. He didn’t know what to say, didn’t know how to bridge the sudden gap between them.
The silence stretched on between them, filled with unspoken words and unresolved hurt. Neither of them slept easily that night.
time skip
Daniel woke up to the soft glow of morning light filtering through the curtains, his hand instinctively reaching out for Y/N’s warm body beside him. But instead of finding her curled up against him as she usually was, his hand met cold, empty sheets. He blinked, groggy with sleep, his heart sinking as he registered the emptiness beside him. Where is she?
Yawning, he sat up and rubbed his eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. It wasn’t like Y/N to be up before him, especially on a weekend. They usually spent the morning lazing around in bed, entangled in each other, exchanging lazy kisses and talking about everything and nothing. But today, the bed felt too big, too empty.
He stumbled out of the bedroom, still half-asleep, and made his way to the living room, where he heard the familiar clinking of a spoon against a coffee mug. Y/N was standing by the kitchen counter, freshly showered, her hair still damp and clinging to her neck. She was wearing her running clothes, and Daniel realized with a pang that she must have gone for a run—something she usually only did later in the day, if at all.
“Morning,” she said, glancing up at him with a small, polite smile before turning back to her coffee.
Daniel frowned, the unease from last night gnawing at him again. No morning kiss, no joke about me being the sleepyhead… He missed the way she usually greeted him, bounding over with her signature enthusiasm and peppering his face with kisses until he was fully awake.
“Morning,” he replied, his voice laced with confusion as he walked over to her. “You’ve been out running?”
“Yeah,” she nodded, taking a sip of her coffee. “Just needed to clear my head a bit.”
Daniel leaned against the counter, searching her face for any sign of what was wrong, but she kept her eyes trained on her mug, avoiding his gaze. Clear her head? Since when does she need to do that alone? He watched her carefully, noting how different she seemed—quieter, more subdued.
Usually, their mornings were filled with light-hearted banter, Y/N teasing him about his bedhead or him playfully tugging at her clothes as they tried to decide who got the shower first. Today, though, there was none of that. Just a few polite exchanges before Y/N quietly went back to whatever she was doing, leaving Daniel feeling more lost than ever.
Later, as they sat down for breakfast, Daniel noticed how Y/N barely spoke. She ate quietly, not her usual animated self who would chat non-stop about random topics or playfully steal food off his plate. When she finished, she simply got up, rinsed her plate, and headed to the living room without a word, leaving him alone at the table. This isn’t right. She’s never like this.
He followed her into the living room, where she had already settled on the couch with her laptop, focusing on some work. Normally, Sunday mornings were their time to cuddle up together and watch silly TV shows, often forgetting about the world outside. But today, Y/N was distant, absorbed in her work and not giving him the usual attention that he had come to cherish. Daniel sat down beside her, hoping she’d lean into him like she always did, but instead, she shifted slightly away, her focus still on the screen.
“Wanna watch something?” Daniel asked, trying to sound upbeat.
Y/N looked up briefly, her smile not quite reaching her eyes. “Maybe later, I’ve got a lot to finish.”
Later? Daniel thought, the word stinging more than it should have. He leaned back into the couch, feeling the distance between them growing, an invisible barrier he didn’t know how to break.
As the day wore on, Daniel kept trying to bring her back, suggesting they go out for lunch or do something fun together, but each time, Y/N politely declined, claiming she was tired or had things to do. Every attempt he made to connect with her was met with that same polite, distant response, and it was driving him crazy.
This is not us. What happened? He replayed their last few days in his mind, searching for anything that could have caused this sudden change, but he couldn’t pinpoint it. It was like she had just pulled away overnight, and he had no idea why.
By the time evening rolled around, the tension between them was palpable. Daniel couldn’t take it anymore. They were usually inseparable, laughing and joking even after long days, but now it felt like they were miles apart, even sitting on the same couch.
As Y/N stood up to put away her laptop, Daniel finally spoke, his voice tight with the anxiety that had been building inside him all day. “Y/N, we have to talk.”
Y/N froze, her back to him, her hands trembling slightly as she placed the laptop on the table. She had been dreading this moment, knowing that Daniel would eventually confront her about her behavior. But how could she explain the hurt she felt, the betrayal that had been gnawing at her since she overheard those cruel words?
She turned slowly to face him, her heart pounding in her chest, knowing she couldn’t keep avoiding this conversation. The look on Daniel’s face—the worry, the confusion—made her want to cry, but she held it in, biting her lip to keep her emotions at bay.
Daniel could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he watched Y/N stand there, her back still partially turned to him. He took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions swirling inside him. He didn’t want to hurt her, but he needed to understand what was going on.
“Y/N,” he began, his voice softer now, “what’s wrong? Please, talk to me. I feel like you’re a million miles away.”
Y/N took a shaky breath, trying to hold herself together. She didn’t want to cry, didn’t want to let the emotions she had been bottling up spill over, but the concern in Daniel’s voice was too much. She turned around fully, her eyes locking with his, and in that moment, the dam broke.
“Daniel, I—I can’t keep pretending like everything’s okay,” she said, her voice trembling. “I heard them. I heard what your friends said about me on the yacht.”
Daniel’s stomach dropped as her words registered. “What? What did they say?”
“They… they called me exhausting,” Y/N choked out, tears welling up in her eyes. “They said I’m too much, that I never sit still. And you… you just laughed along, Daniel. You didn’t say anything.”
Daniel felt like he’d been punched in the gut. He remembered the conversation now, the way his friends had made those offhanded comments, but at the time, he hadn’t thought much of it. I didn’t think it mattered. I didn’t think she heard.
“Oh, Y/N,” he whispered, stepping closer to her, reaching out to hold her, but she took a step back, shaking her head as tears spilled down her cheeks.
“No, Daniel. You don’t understand. That hurt. So much,” she cried, her voice breaking. “I thought I was fitting in, I thought they liked me. But to hear them say that… And then to see you just… go along with it? It broke my heart.”
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears as he watched her break down, each of her words cutting deeper into him. He had never seen her like this, so vulnerable, so broken, and it shattered him to know he had a part in causing it.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion. “I swear, I didn’t mean to hurt you. I didn’t think… I should have said something. I should have defended you. But I didn’t think they were serious. I didn’t think it would hurt you like this.”
“That’s the problem, Daniel!” Y/N exclaimed, her voice rising with the pain she had been holding back. “You didn’t think. You didn’t think about how it would make me feel, how it would tear me apart to hear the people you care about think so little of me. And you just stood there, laughing with them, like it was okay.”
Daniel’s heart ached as he saw the tears streaming down her face, the hurt in her eyes so raw, so deep. “Y/N, you have to believe me, I love you just the way you are,” he pleaded, his voice cracking. “You’re not too much for me. You’re everything. I love your energy, your spirit. It’s what drew me to you in the first place. I don’t want you to change. Not for them, not for anyone.”
“But you didn’t say that,” she whispered, her voice so quiet it was almost drowned out by her sobs. “You didn’t say anything. And now I feel like… like I’m too much, even for you. I feel like I don’t belong, like I’m just a burden.”
“No, no,” Daniel shook his head frantically, desperate to make her understand. “You’re not a burden, Y/N. You’re my everything. I should have stood up for you. I should have told them how amazing you are, how much you mean to me. I’m so sorry I let you down. Please, don’t think for a second that you’re too much for me.”
Y/N’s knees gave out, and she sank to the floor, burying her face in her hands as sobs wracked her body. “It just hurt so much, Daniel. I’ve never felt like this before. I’ve never felt so… unwanted.”
Daniel was on the floor beside her in an instant, pulling her into his arms despite her initial resistance. He held her tightly, his own tears falling freely now as he pressed his lips to the top of her head.
“You are wanted, Y/N,” he whispered fiercely, his voice thick with emotion. “You are loved. I love you. I need you. I’m so sorry I made you feel this way. I’m so sorry I didn’t protect you from that. I never wanted to make you feel unwanted or unloved. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and I can’t stand the thought of you doubting that.”
Y/N clung to him, her tears soaking his shirt as she cried out all the pain and hurt she had been holding inside. Daniel rocked her gently, whispering apologies and reassurances, his heart breaking with every sob that escaped her lips.
“I’m here, love,” he whispered, kissing her hair, her forehead, anywhere he could reach. “I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere. I’ll do better, I promise. I’ll never let you feel like this again.”
They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity, tangled together on the floor, holding onto each other as if their lives depended on it. The weight of the day’s hurtful words slowly lifted as Daniel poured his heart out to her, begging for her forgiveness, for a chance to make things right.
And in that moment, Y/N knew that despite the pain, despite the heartbreak, Daniel’s love was real. She could feel it in the way he held her, in the way he whispered her name like it was the most precious thing in the world. But the hurt was still there, lingering beneath the surface, a reminder that words—whether spoken or left unsaid—had the power to break even the strongest of hearts.
time skip
After what felt like hours of clinging to each other on the floor, Daniel and Y/N finally moved to the couch. The exhaustion from the emotional storm that had passed left them both drained, but neither could bear to be apart. Y/N nestled into Daniel's side, her head resting on his chest as his arms wrapped securely around her. The room was quiet now, the only sound being their slow, steady breathing as they tried to find some semblance of peace in each other’s embrace.
Y/N’s eyes fluttered closed, but her mind was still racing. The warmth of Daniel’s body against hers was comforting, but the memories of the hurtful words she had heard kept playing in her mind. Yet, she could also feel the sincerity in Daniel’s touch, the way his hands never stopped moving, as if he were afraid to let her go. She could tell he was struggling too, and that realization tugged at her heart.
As they lay there, the silence between them filled with unspoken apologies and lingering pain, Y/N suddenly felt something wet against her temple. She shifted slightly, tilting her head up to see Daniel’s face, and her heart clenched at the sight of tears streaming down his cheeks. His usually bright eyes were glassy, the usual spark in them dimmed by guilt and sorrow.
“Danny?” she whispered, concern flooding her voice.
Daniel didn’t respond right away, his jaw clenched as he tried to keep his emotions in check, but the tears kept coming, no matter how hard he tried to stop them. His grip on her tightened as if holding her close would somehow undo the pain he had caused.
Without thinking, Y/N climbed onto his lap, straddling him so she could face him fully. She cupped his face in her hands, her thumbs brushing away the tears that continued to fall. The sight of him like this—so broken, so vulnerable—made her chest ache. She had never seen him cry like this before, and it tore at her heartstrings in a way she couldn’t describe.
“Danny, please,” she murmured, her voice soft and pleading. “Don’t cry.”
But Daniel shook his head, his tears blurring his vision as he looked at her. “I’m so sorry, Y/N,” he choked out, his voice thick with anguish. “I’m so, so sorry. I can’t believe I hurt you like that. I should’ve stopped them. I should’ve told them to shut up. You didn’t deserve any of that, and I just… I failed you.”
“Danny…” Y/N’s voice broke as she tried to comfort him, but the words wouldn’t come. Instead, she leaned in, pressing her forehead against his, their breaths mingling as they both tried to steady themselves.
“I love you so much,” Daniel continued, his voice cracking with each word. “You’re the most important person in my life, and I hate myself for making you feel anything less than that. You’re perfect just the way you are, Y/N. I don’t want you to change, not ever. I’m so sorry I let you down. Please, please forgive me.”
Y/N felt tears welling up in her own eyes again, her heart breaking all over at the sheer desperation in his voice. She could see how much this was tearing him apart, how much he regretted what had happened, and it made her realize that he was hurting just as much as she was.
“Danny,” she whispered, her voice trembling as she gently kissed his forehead, then his cheeks, tasting the salt of his tears on her lips. “I know you’re sorry. I know you didn’t mean to hurt me. I forgive you, okay? I forgive you.”
Daniel let out a shaky breath, his hands coming up to cradle her face as if he were afraid she might slip away. “I don’t deserve you,” he murmured, his voice filled with raw emotion. “I don’t deserve how understanding you are, how forgiving. I don’t deserve you.”
“Don’t say that,” Y/N replied, her voice firm despite the tears threatening to spill over. “You’re everything to me, Danny. I’m not perfect, and neither are you, but we’re perfect for each other. And that’s all that matters. We’ll get through this, okay? Together.”
Daniel nodded, his lips trembling as he pulled her closer, burying his face in the crook of her neck. “I love you so much,” he whispered, his breath warm against her skin. “I’ll do anything to make this right. I just need you to know that I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere. You’re my whole world, Y/N.”
Y/N tightened her hold on him, her fingers threading through his hair as she held him close. “I love you too, Danny,” she whispered back, her voice thick with emotion. “And I’m here too. We’ll be okay. We will.”
For a long moment, they just held each other, their tears mingling as they clung to the comfort of being together, of knowing that despite everything, their love was strong enough to weather the storm. Slowly, the tension between them began to ease, replaced by the quiet reassurance that they had each other, and that was enough.
As they sat there, wrapped in each other’s arms, Daniel pressed a soft kiss to her shoulder, his tears finally beginning to subside. “Thank you,” he murmured, his voice barely audible. “Thank you for forgiving me. I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure you never doubt how much you mean to me.”
Y/N nodded, her own tears finally slowing as she felt the sincerity in his words. “Just don’t ever shut me out again,” she whispered. “We’re in this together, Danny. Always.”
“Always,” Daniel echoed, his voice filled with a promise as he kissed her gently, sealing the words between them.

Got another DP x DC prompt for yall:
Things in Amity are going bad, the GIW are getting more aggressive and Jack and Maddie are starting to suspect there is something ghostly going on with Danny and Jazz is scared out of her mind and desperate to get them the hell out or dodge before she comes home one day to find her baby brother strapped to a table in the basement or worse.
She knows there's no way she's going to be able to get custody of Danny though (maybe she's still a minor herself, maybe she is over eighteen but it takes more than being a legal adult to get custody of a kid, and Jazz just doesn't have what the government is looking for and she can't risk Danny getting lost in the system) and even if she could, where could they possibly go? Even if they ran away, they don't have any way to survive.
Half out of her mind with stress and exhaustion late one night she ends up digging through their family tree looking for someone, anyone, that looks like they might be able to help, that could at least get them away from Amity Park if nothing else. She and Danny had each other, and literally anything was better then the nightmare creeping ever closer.
And somehow it doesn't even take that long, maybe luck finally shifting their way for once, maybe Clockwork nudging things along just right, but she finds someone.
As far as family relations go, they're on branches as far away from each other as possible while still being on the same tree. And of course the person in question has a pretty massive criminal background and is still super obviously involved in some shady stuff, but Jazz does her research and can see that - criminal mastermind or no - there's no history of vivisecting children or ghost hunting and honestly the Goonion review is pretty glowing.
Besides, Gotham's ambiant ectoplasm is about the same as Amity Park's, it'll help keep Danny (and her, really, as liminal as she is) healthy.
It's a long shot, but short of fleeing to the Ghost Zone and praying their parents don't chase after them, it's all she’s got. So, using one of Tucker's programs, she gets ahold of a phone number and makes the call.
To say that Oswald Cobblepot is surprised by her reaching out and suspicious of her desperate request would be an under statement.
But he knows a con, and this doesn't sound like one. The girl on the other end of the line sounds close to tears, begging him to hear her out, pleading for his help. When he has his people investigate he finds that Jasmine Fenton isn't lying. They are distant cousins - very distant - and the kids' parents are honestly Arkham levels of insane and the kids' teachers have been getting progressively more frantic in their reporting on their concerns. The notes on Daniel Fenton and the number of visible injuries he's been going to school with are particularly concerning. As is the fact that the Drs. Fenton are apparently scientists on top of being entirely mad.
Call Oswald a soft touch, but there's an old childhood wound deep in his heart that has him feeling for the kids, and from what he’s seen of Jasmine - Jazz, she said to call her, and her little brother is Danny, not Daniel - she's got the kind of drive he admires.
And hell it's not as if he can't afford to put them up in an apartment somewhere out of the way if they turn out to be too much trouble. Besides adopting a couple of sad kids from a shitty home can only be good for his reputation, look how well it worked for Bruce Wayne.
Maybe if he plays his cards right, he can set up a play date with the Wayne kids or something, really get some good networking in.

Danny Phantom A Glitch in Time and the concept of ¨Tikkun Olam¨
Tumblr media
A few days ago i was talking to my friend @chestfullofnuttycream about Furiossa's A Glitch in Time theory about how the Ghost Zone could be result of the equivalent of a nuclear wasteland. While we were commenting on it she brought up the concept of ¨Tikkun Olam¨, which comes from jewish culture and how that could apply to A Glitch in Time. (For context she is jewish).
I got curious and decided to look more into it and see how it could tie with A Glitch in Time themes and lore. In this post i'm going to discuss the term and compare it to what happens in the Danny Phantom graphic novel. For that i'm going to cite this article that describes where the concept comes from and what it means nowadays.
*On note, i'm not jewish myself. There is likely some stuff that i could be wrong or innacurate, so feel free to comment or correct me about it.
Let's start with the mythos of ¨Tikkun Olam¨:
In reference to individual acts of repair, the phrase “tikkun olam” figures prominently in the Lurianic account of creation and its implications: God contracted the divine self to make room for creation. Divine light became contained in special vessels, or kelim, some of which shattered and scattered. While most of the light returned to its divine source, some light attached itself to the broken shards. These shards constitute evil and are the basis for the material world; their trapped sparks of light give them power.
So here already we see some parallels between the mythos and Ghost Zone's origins: The spirit and human-material world used to be one, until there was a great war that lead to the separation of the two worlds and thus with Earth getting ¨shattered¨.
¨All worlds were one, all beings were one, until disharmony struck. Life and chaos amounted to war, such as never has been seen before¨ ¨The toll became too much to bear, and the great divide occured, Spirit was separated from Earth, and one world became two¨.
As the legend explains, this divide isn't meant to be the ¨natural order¨. The current state of both dimensions is wrong. The world itself as its is broken.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While contemporary activists also use the term “tikkun olam” to refer to acts of repair by human beings, they do not necessarily believe in or have a familiarity with the term’s cosmological associations. Their emphasis is on acts of social responsibility, not the larger realm of sacred acts — and on fixing, not undoing, the world as we know it. <> The phrase “tikkun olam” remains connected with human responsibility for fixing what is wrong with the world. <> Contemporary usage of the phrase shares with the rabbinic concept of “mipnei tikkun ha-olam” a concern with public policy and societal change, and with the kabbalistic notion of “tikkun” the idea that the world is profoundly broken and can be fixed only by human activity.
Tikkun Olam is a term that has changed quite a lot since its origins through out history, it can have different meanings depending on the person. In current times a lot prefer to use it as a call to do acts that can help other people or fix the issues one can find in society. In this context the world is broken and it can be fixed through people's acts in different ways.
Tumblr media
After Danny learns about this ancient history of the Ghost World, he says that he wants to make his new emotional drive to be fixing this divide between the two worlds. He wants to find a way to fix what is wrong with this world-perhaps returning to something like it used to be.
Tumblr media
So what this would probably involve is Danny trying to find a way that ghosts and humans can coexist together again. He would try to find a way that can work together and not having to fight each other- like helping ghosts or showing humans that ghosts aren't their enemies.
Another thing that is worth of pointing out is that Gabriela has indirectly confirmed that she was inspired by Steven Universe in her reblog from Furiossa's post. Steven Universe's creator, Rebecca Sugar, is jewish and she has been open about her jewish heritage in the past.
Some people have talked about how Steven Universe is inspired by jewish culture elements for its narrative- one of these elements being Tikkun Olam- In Steven Universe the world and the people are presented as broken and it is something that the characters try to come together to fix it in different ways- Steven himself tries to find ways to repair the damage left by her mother's legacy, Rose Quartz, which gets explored through the show.
Tumblr media
It is possible that Gabriela was inspired by these themes that were in Steven Universe and decided apply them to write A Glitch in Time lore and story.
Now i don't know if Gabriela herself is jewish- i haven't found much indication about this so i can't fully confirm. Another possibility is that she learned about this term and was inspired by it to somewhat apply them in A Glitch in Time.
But it could also be a case of pure coincidence because she happened to take inspiration from Steven Universe- thus ¨accidentally¨ writing a narrative that can be interpreted as taking elements from Tikkun Olam and jewish culture as a whole.
Whatever it is, it is still interesting to see that this is one reading that one can do of A Glitch in Time and see how certain things take inspiration from others. I'm curious to see how this theme is going to be contuined in the next novel along with learning more about how the two worlds became separated and Danny acting as a bridge between humans and ghosts.

Dc x Dp Blurb #3
It's late, I'm tired and on my phone so it's weird writing here but I must share this one instantly.
So, I saw a Trans Danny AND Trans Jazz thing earlier and I lost it. The idea that they both are is so good to me, and I have so much angst for it.
Just, neither of their parents even REMEMBER that they're trans. Like Danny's their son, Jazz is their daughter....but only because they know they have one daughter one son and clearly that was correct, not because they remember they're both trans. Acceptance through negligence basically.
Also side note but totally an au where the kids at school know and are like "Hell yeah you go!" About the trans stuff. Dash will push Danny into a locker but if he hears someone deadname his nerd friend he's taking a note from the ghosts and breaking shit.
Now the crossover aspect that's been invading my brain. Danny is visiting Gotham temporarily for something and is just like not hiding that he's trans, he's got a lol pin of the flag on his bag. Class trip with the Fentons being some of the supervisors, they came along to see if Batman was a ghost, and Danny us just very tired at this point. He's king of the realms, come to a midpoint with his 'rogues' after realizing it was more a ghost thing than a hate thing for 99% of them, and finally become friends with most of his class even if Dash still liked to mess with him.
Walking through the museum they're touring with Lancer, and a class from the local high school, Danny ends up near the edge of his classmates group next to the other school group. They're not avoiding one another but also not really talking, but this one kid just goes, "nice flag pin," before showing off the bisexual and polyamorous ones they have.
It's Tim. Because he saw the flag and went :O friend time. And also no one he talked to was with the group he was in, so he'd rather talk to this stranger who probably won't treat him differently since he doesn't know him.
The two talk as they are going, some of the other Casper high students chiming in since hey if a kid is nice to their weirdest classmate they're pretty okay in the books. (50/50 if the class know Danny is Phantom but they totally know he's different from all the osha violations in his house and most of them are so worried after really paying attention after they became friends).
Randomly Jack and Maddie come out of nowhere and grab Danny talking about something to do with ghosts, much to the apparent tiredness and even slight distaste on their kid's face, which they didn't even notice. Tim is unsure what is happening but seeing the dislike on the whole class's faces and some worried looks Danny got he's now wanting to go all detective on him because hey Danny's fun to talk to! Totally not because he's very very gay-
So after they leave, he causally tries to learn more about the two and why the class seemed to hate them, even why Danny himself didn't seem to want to be anywhere near his parents. Of course he tries to be subtle.
"So you're parents seem pretty accepting of you being trans, that's good!"
Maybe not so subtle, in his defense, he hasn't slept recently. Danny tried to smile at it though but completely failed, just giving up and slouching as he shrugged.
"More like they don't even remember."
So now Tim is concerned and confused, but much to his luck, the tour is over and the Casper students are leaving. He's worried about his new friend, even if they exchanged numbers, so he goes down a rabbit hole. Not only does he find suspicious stuff about this small town that was heavily deleted from many things, but he finds that Danny has a sibling. It's evident to him they're also trans from the few pictures before and after but the sibling's name isn't anywhere to be seen so he tries to dig deeper.
He pauses before going further down though to respond to some of Danny's messages. But his sleep deprived brain decided 'let's just ask'. So he asks a bit of questions about Danny. Like what's his town like? Any other family? Are they fine with you being trans, because he'll totally beat anyone who's not, etc. Danny answers them and in turn asks about the Waynes, mainly because Danny is not entirely convinced Bruce himself isn't weird like Vlad, but he does acknowledge that he's at least not evil.
Eventually Danny offhandedly mentions Jazz is trans to, and Tim being the detective he is is like "huh..." and asks if his parents were accepting of Jazz too. It's a while before he responds but Danny just says;
"They don't remember we are trans...so no problems or anything with it..."
Tim doesn't get the chance to say anything about it as Danny asks about something about him being poly and what his dad and siblings thought. Of course he replied but his mind was also reeling from the fact that Danny's parents literally don't pay attention to their kids enough to not realize both kids are trans.
They keep in touch and Tim puts investigating on the back burner some since while kinds neglectful they seem to be decent enough parents.
He regrets that though as Danny doesn't message him for nearly a month. It worries him enough to put that investigation back to the forefront. Of course he finds osha violation city in the Fenton's house, as well as the actual paranormal activity happening. What concerns him the most is that apparently the town hero, a ghost boy, is missing...from around the same time Danny stopped messaging.
It's a week into trying to find Danny that he gets a message from his number, except it's not Danny. It's Jazz. She asks Tim if Danny had gone to him, she was trying everyone since no one knew where he was. This sparks a big ol search.
Danny meanwhile ended up with a hero (any but Clark or Bats cuz we want some rarer family dynamic, the good juice) after crash landing, most literally, right by em. The hero, I'm thinking Hal or Barry idk, is too busy trying to help this random powerful teenager who was bleeding way too too much to not have some regeneration ability.
After some drama of trying to find Danny, and Jazz, Tucker, Sam, and Tim knowing identities(Danny's included) because Tucker accidentally hacked around and found out, hero parent of Danny shows up with said boy closely in tow to a meeting after their surprise break from league work and Tim just jumps up and doesn't even remember that Danny doesn't know his identity.
Danny panics initially but quickly realizes it's Tim and finally gets back in contact with Jazz and all of his friends/classmates who had most definitely stormed a GIW lab in his absence. The league is confused and it's a whole mess before Danny trauma dumps on em and Tim as RR just admits this all started because he saw the trans pin.
My brain is rambling too much for this now, but basically lotta trauma, the league appalled and Danny getting a good family after everything is settled. His classmates so visit him and Tim, Kon, and him date because I feel like Danny would meet him, learn he's a clone (after being very gay for a moment) and just be like "heck yeah, my younger sister is a clone" which also caused more panic but like gay trio.
I'm gonna go sleep now, enjoy the angst and randomness this blurb is-
Remember these are free to take and do whatever you please with them, it's just random ideas/thoughts that I have but don't plan to do anything with for the foreseeable future!

Almighty (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)
A/N: Just as Noah was for Ara's self-worth crisis, Florence is for the religious one -Danny Words: 1,626 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter // Next Chapter Listen to: 'King' -by Florence + The Machine

XXVI: I'm Going to Cry, This Is a Threat
Lester wakes up after three hours of hallucinations. Anyone else would be concerned, but being a former god of prophecy, it's expected to have him faint whenever he's close to another oracle.
Leo agrees to keep what he saw a secret, it'd be no use to tell Lester about it yet, he'd ask Ara to do all the heavy lifting. At least right now he's under the assumption that she's a puny mortal like everyone else. No, no, she is a puny mortal. Her body's only adjusting to some stuff. She's fine.
The orange ghost shows up again to talk to Apollo via a Magic 8 Ball, he talks about some girl Lester needs to bring here, and the older ladies get all kinds of stressed, but nothing comes from asking for clarification.
"Yo, Cheese, just shake it again, man." Leo demands. He's not in the mood to be left in the dark about something else.
"It's no use," Jo sighs and holds her partner close. "When the Magic 8 Ball says try again later, that's exactly what it means. We'll have to wait... It's all right, we'll find her. We'll get her back."
"I'm so sorry," Calypso gently places a hand on top of Jo's. "Who—who is missing?"
"Georgina," Jo says weakly. "Our adopted daughter."
"You two left the Hunters for each other." Lester blurts out as if he's just noticed.
"Oh, for Olympus's sake," Ara rolls her eyes. "You're so slow."
"Hey, just because you're Aphrodite's offspring doesn't mean we can all sniff relationships within a mile radius!" Lester mutters the rest. "Don't talk to me about slow, anyway..."
Jo looks at Calypso, ignoring the other two. "We didn't exactly plan it. We left in... what, 1986?"
"Eighty-seven. We've been aging together ever since. Very happily."
"I don't know much about Lady Artemis, or her rules for followers—But don't they forswear the company of men? If you two fell in love—"
"No," Apollo makes a face. "All romance is off-limits. My sister is quite unreasonable in that regard. The mission of the Hunters is to live without romantic distractions of any kind."
"We delighted in being Hunters, both of us. They were our family. But..."
"We loved each other more," Jo finishes softly.
Ara doesn't have the courage to look up, she knows Leo will be looking at her searching for reassurance she can't give him. All this time she kept churning over the thought of Leo's freedom and the fact that he could walk away from her if he wanted to, but she never stopped to think whether she was ready to walk away from her duty once he was back.
All this time she's prayed that Leo would choose to follow her because she knew she couldn't choose him, it's unthinkable, giving up her position isn't an option.
"The Lady's Hunters often stop here at the Waystation..." Jo's voice sounds like a distant noise in Ara's mind. "Though we have not seen Artemis herself in decades. Then, seven years ago, we were blessed with Georgina. She... she was brought to our door by Agamethus."
"He brought her from where?" Apollo questions.
"We've never been able to get that information from him. It's the one question the Magic 8 Ball never answers." Emmie shrugs.
"Hold up," Leo's voice is like a kick in the gut. "Agamethus isn't your kid's dad, is he? Also...you're telling me I'm wearing the overalls of a seven-year-old girl, and they fit?"
Ara looks up at him and realizes he changed from the fancy clothes she'd given him into some old overalls with the tag "Georgie" on them. He must've started to work on Festus while she was on the rooftop trying not to go crazy.
Jo chuckles. "I suppose they do. And no, Leo, Agamethus is not Georgina's father. Our ghostly friend has been dead since ancient times. Like Apollo said, he was the brother of Trophonius, the spirit of the Oracle. Agamethus appeared here with baby Georgie. Then he led us to the Oracle. That was the first we knew of its existence."
"So you have its location." Lester raises a brow.
"Of course. For all the good it does us."
"But the girl and the Oracle must be connected somehow."
"We didn't realize how closely they were connected. Not until Georgie was taken from us."
"The emperor." Lester's face darkens. "In my vision, I heard Nero call this emperor the New Hercules. Who is he? What did he do with Georgina?"
"The what?" Ara looks at him with annoyance. She's never been able to move past the complicated feelings that Heracles brought to her. In some pitiful, relatable way, Ara hated and looked up to the guy.
"I—I need to do something productive with my hands," Emmie gets up. "It's the only way I've stayed sane the past two weeks. Why don't you all help us make lunch? Then we'll talk about the monster who controls our city."
The group gets up except Lester and Ara. She relates to Emmie's need to stay active, but her words sting. It's the only way I've stayed sane. Ara's obsessive behavior started after her many near-death experiences and it got worse after Beck, Silena, and Mike's deaths, and it's the only way she knows how to stay in one piece, but it's starting to make her feel a little crazy, too. What would happen if, for once, instead of processing her emotions through work, she breathed?
"Work," Lester scoffs watching the others resentfully. "Such a human need."
"I don't get why this is making you angry," Ara frowns.
"I gave that woman godly powers," he sulks. "And she gave them up—for what? Because she fell in love! And then this... this... nonsense about working to stay sane. You have limited time to change the world. As a god, you can wave your hand and eradicate entire nations. Humans can't make a change."
"Lester, I gave up my life so I could be here, listening to your bitching," Ara says bitterly. "If I eradicate you now it would save us future trouble, see if that doesn't change the world," she gets up. "Don't insult humanity in my presence."
Tumblr media
Ara offers to set the table while everyone else prepares the food. They won't let her work because, as previously stated, she's done most of the heavy lifting for the past month. Ara doesn't perceive cooking as the same level of burden as it is killing a whole family of cyclops, but they insist.
"Where does this food come from?" Lester sniffs while cutting onions.
"Emmie's got a garden on the roof," Calypso says happily. "Greenhouses. Year-round growing. You should see the herbs—basil, thyme, rosemary. It's amazing."
"Thank you, dear. You definitely know your gardening."
The girl beams and Ara sees her soul light surround her in a halo of pure joy, then Leo comes in holding a large wheel of cheese, also glowing golden. "BEHOLD THE CHEDDAR! ALL HAIL THE CHEESE CONQUERORS!"
"The cows seemed to like Leo," Jo comments with a grin.
"Hey, abuelita, all da cows love Leo." The boy smirks and turns to Lester. "And these cows are red, man. Like... bright red."
Ara makes a face of dislike, remembering the labyrinth's cattle. Lester tears up and Jo hurries to ease him. "We just use their milk, we don't butcher them."
"I should hope not!" Lester sniffs. "Killing red cattle would be sacrilege!"
"Yeah," Jo shrugs without caring about that part much. "But mostly it's because Emmie made me give up meat twenty years ago."
"It's much better for you. You're not immortal anymore, and you need to take care of yourself."
"But cheeseburgers," Jo sighs.
Leo clicks his tongue and leaves the cheese in front of Lester. "I get it, Jo. Ara doesn't let me eat fonzies for breakfast. I keep telling her they've got all I need to keep my body going but she keeps yapping about apples and lettuce. Because she's crazy like that. Anyway—cut me a wedge of this, my good man. Chop-chop!"
Lester is glaring at him. "Don't test me, Valdez. When I am a god again, I will make a constellation out of you. I will call it the Small Exploding Latino."
"I like it!" Leo grins. "Can you make it like a naughty drawing of a—"
"Cal, cover your ears," Ara warns out loud.
"I'm already used to tuning both of them out," she replies while focusing on cutting lemons.
Ara feels out of place, like she's getting in the way of everyone in the kitchen, so she steps back and lingers beside Agamethus. He's holding the Magic 8 Ball, so Ara decides to strike up a conversation, there is something in her mind and she needs to get rid of it.
"Hey, cheese. Can I call you that?" The ghost shrugs like saying "Whatever". "Cool. I've got a question for you," Ara nods at the people in front of her, focusing on Leo and Calypso. "This is it, isn't it?"
He shakes the ball, and then shows it to her.
"Hmph." Ara reads the answer with a stoic expression. The ghost shakes the toy again and shows it to her. "You're not a beast. You love."
Ara looks up at his headless body with surprise. "How did you...?" Agamethus shakes the toy again. "It's your calling."
"Lester said we humans think we can change things when in reality it's all prefabricated. And I see it now," she shakes her head. "I had so much faith in my choices, I faked it all wanting to reach an impossible goal, and Lester just toppled it all over with one sentence. I'm nothing but a foolish puppet."
The ghost shakes the Magic 8 Ball with force this time, as if trying to convey the tone of his next response. "I never said you were human. You're Almighty."  Written like that, Agamethus meant it as more than just friendly encouragement. Maybe she couldn't change the world, but the world has changed her, and she can do something with that.

Sigrid hummed in acknowledgment. “I can see that. Now I’m not trying to be degrading when I say this, as I know how Vikings can get— I’ve seen it firsthand— but, your husband seems to be gentler in that regard, softer spoken.” She shrugged, taking a hefty sip of water. “I don’t know if that’s it for sure, but whatever it is, it has the girls feeling safe, and that’s honestly all I care about. Of course I care about Magnus and Imogen, but they can handle themselves easier; Caito wasn’t lying when he was talking about Ellie’s vision— she can barely swing a sword straight for Thors sake! And the worst part is is that she thinks she’s doing it right, that she’s seeing it properly, and when we tell her she isn’t? Gods, you’ve never seen a girl that mad befits…” She paused. “And Isla’s only four, so I don’t expect her to do much of anything right now.”
The young woman seemed to be thinking back on some memories, fond ones at that, from what her expression was saying at least. “Oh, she said everything and anything about you guys— your daughter too. She referred to you guys as ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ for the longest time, told us about the hut, the Night Fury— I mean, she was the one to change our minds about dragons! Even after what they did to us! Who would’ve thought, huh?”
Isla was all smiles still, clearly overjoyed to have made what she thought was a new friend. She had never had a friend her age before!
At the mention of her hair being braided by either of Zephyrs parents, she shook her head, pointing back at Danny before touching her own head of hair. She wanted to have hair like her sisters!
Danny let out a shaky breath of relief, glad to know that Hiccup was still a hundred percent on board with being her father again.
At the mention of Isla receiving the same treatment, she nodded, her eyes glossing over. “That would be great. I, I think she needs it more than me.” Her eyes locked with Hiccups, and when she spoke again, her voice was hollow, almost desperate. “It was bad, Hiccup, when we found her. I just want it to be better for her. I want her to have what I didn’t.”
At him once again saying that it was good to have her back, she couldn’t resist wrapping her arms around him again, embracing him in a tight hug.
At this point, Isla had picked up on the fact that her big sister was upset, and obviously wanting to make her feel better, she went away from Zephyr to hug Danny as tight as her little arms would allow her to.
Chuckling softly, Danny picked her up in her arms. “Thanks, Isla. That made me feel a lot better. I love you, okay?”
The younger girl just nodded, burying her head in Danny’s shoulder.
Turning to the kitchen, she called out. “Caito! Can you come here? I wanna head over to Gothi’s now!”
———
In the end, Caito had agreed to do this, only because he was allowed to be with his two youngest siblings.
Once they got up to hut, he moved to stand protectively in front of the two girls, his expression firm.
“They go first, understood? And if there’s not enough space, I’ll stand in the doorway, but I need to be able to see them.
"Yep, that's Hiccup. He's always been that way, although he was extremely sarcastic for a while when we were teenagers."
Astrid's brows furrowed in concern. "The branding...that is what affected her eye, isn't it?" Glancing over at Danny, she said, "Gothi can probably help. I was once blinded by a lightning strike, and she was able to bring my sight back..."
It warmed Astrid's heart to hear these things, and she nodded her head towards Hiccup. "If it weren't for him, we'd still be at war with dragons. It's amazing how much one person can change."
---
Zephyr's face fell as Isla declined the new hairstyle, but as she pointed to Danny's hair, Zephyr's face lit up again. "Can--can I match you then? Do you think she could do my hair too?"
---
Hiccup tilted his head slightly, his face full of compassion, speaking softly. "I think you both could use it, Danny." Nodding, he said, "Then that's exactly what I'll do. On Berk, you, Isla, the others... you'll all have everything you need, and then some."
Returning her embrace, he only let go when he saw Isla approach, with Zephyr close behind. The young Haddock immediately plopped herself in her father's lap. "Hey dad! Isla and I are like, best friends now!"
"Oh, is that so?"
"Uh huh! I want to have my hair match hers!"
---------------
Hiccup held Caito's gaze, nodding. "I can make sure they are seen first, but you'll have to tell Gothi your other terms. I know I'll have to step out for a portion of the examination, but if you insist on staying for that portion, you need to take it up with her."
Knocking on the door, he said, "Gothi? I know it's late, but there are some new arrivals that have some wounds that need attention."
She gave him a tough time when Danny came, bonking him on the head for not bringing her sooner.
When the door opened, he greeted the elder Berkian. "There are three here with various injuries, can we start with the youngest first? Just a check over, make sure she's alright?"

How does Danny feel about having to keep Lancer's wallet in his back pocket? Annoyed with the situation, or concerned about getting caught?
I am assuming you're referring to this ficlet. And, honestly, the answer is probably both.
Annoyance would probably take precedence because Danny just doesn't want to have to deal with this right now, and now he has to deal with it, because if he doesn't, things are inevitably going to get worse. That's just his life and his luck, especially when someone is actively trying to set him up to be caught.
The actual concern about getting caught would be secondary, I think, because he'd be betting he could talk his way out of it ("I found it and I'm just returning it!") and at least introduce enough reasonable doubt to not be sent to the principal's office on the spot.
When the wallet's actually in his back pocket, no one can tell it's Lancer's and not his. Danny has more to worry about being exposed by whoever set him up than someone unrelated to the situation (like Valerie) finding out that the wallet isn't actually Danny's. And if it's in his back pocket, he's more likely to feel it if someone lifts it off him and tries to expose him. If it's in his backpack, that's a lot harder. So, while it's technically an increased risk of exposure to have it in his pocket and not tucked away in his bag, it'll give him a little more time to prepare to deal with a situation, even if that's just a couple of seconds.
The worst case probably would be if one of the other students did tell Lancer that Danny had his wallet, because that would give Lancer reason to find and confront Danny about it, and that's when his excuses are least likely to be believed--because if someone else supposedly witnessed him taking it, then Danny has to fight a lot harder to make the 'I just found it in the hallway' defense work, since even if he was witnessed picking up a wallet, whoever told Lancer shouldn't have known that Lancer had lost it (as opposed to someone else) barring some announcement--which hasn't been made at the time of Valerie pointing out the wallet to Danny--unless they had witnessed the theft as claimed. At that point, it's Danny's word against his accusers, and with his track record, likely the least he'd get is detention for not turning it in to the office immediately.
If it is a ghost setting him up, they can't turn him in to Lancer without overshadowing someone. (Well, a few of them could pull off being human if they weren't immediately recognized from their previous excursions to Amity Park, but if Danny's right about his assumption of this being Youngblood, he'd have to overshadow someone to be seen by Lancer.) Well, they could try leaving Lancer a note, I suppose, but that holds a little less weight than someone coming in person, and Lancer might not see it right away; there'd be the chance of Danny having successfully returned his wallet by then. But the chance of it being a ghost is mostly why Danny plans to skip class to treat the wallet so it can't be phased through stuff anymore, and he's got a good enough handle on distracting his parents that I don't think he'd be concerned about being caught doing that by them. (Assuming they weren't so busy with their work that they wouldn't notice what he's doing in the first place when, in all likelihood, he'd be invisible the entire time.)

Power House AU: I've absolutely loved all the additions and directions people took this post where Danny is captured by the Justice League and I wanted to share my general thoughts on where it would go after that but I'm also lazy so it's just this since I'm tired and don't want to draw.
The JL attempts to interrogate him but fails as Phantom is unresponsive for the majority of the time.
They struggle trying to identify exactly why he isn't responsive considering he has either fully ran from members or quickly attempt to fight them if they try to interact with him.
Somehow, someway, when they're moving Phantom to a new location in the Watch Tower to get a medical check since they're getting worried that after a few days, he's remained the same.
Phantom proceeds to freak the fuck out in the nicest of terms when he's taken to their medical wing and manages to slip out from whoever was taking him.
He's in full panic mode now and he NEEDS to get out even with the suppression cuffs on him so he's dashing blindly in the watch tower.
He manages to make way to the Zeta tubes and somehow manages to make them function and he's teleported away (not Danny's intention, he was just running and it went off at the worst time.)
He doesn't know where he's at on Earth but he's immediately running either way to get away.
Certain members of the League Zeta'd right behind him and are now looking for him.
Danny gets the suppression cuffs and collar and transform right before they can catch him.
They let him leave as they're informed by Batman that they have enough information on him that with a lot of leg work, they may be able to find who he really is since they have now both seen his human and "meta" side of him. Batman does reveal that due to something with biology, they won't be able to find any DNA matches and much of the video recordings of him are difficult to make out even if they're from the Watch Tower.
Danny escapes back to Central City and tries his best to return to a normal college life. He's slightly upset since they managed to pull him away, leaving him little time to study for an upcoming exam.
A few more weeks pass and Batman with the help of Flash manage to find out who Phantom is. A young college student in Central City and is funnily enough working at S.T.A.R. Labs as an intern. Bright future ahead and seems like no one who would have a potential in being a hero/vigilante but digging enough into his past they believe that if anything, it seems like another case of how the Flash came to be except a whole different set of powers.
They decide the best way to get Phantom is to corner him as a civilian in public.
Bart Allen, Hal Jordan, and J'onn J'onzz go as a group of civilians to intervene with Danny as he's leaving one of his campuses buildings.
They make themselves known to Danny and that it would be a mighty bad time to try to fight back or get away as they're all so exposed in public (not really, they're talking alone between some buildings). They make it known that they only want to ask questions and they have concerns about whatever is going on with him (being Phantom, his rogues, fighting the League, clearly fighting alone, etc.)
Danny decides the risk is worth it and tries to make a run for it before even speaking a word to them. Clearly doesn't work out as they expect him to either run or fight them. Barry manages to get to him and place suppression cuffs and collar back on him fairly easily before Danny could transform thanks to super speed.
They're not happy clearly with Danny still not cooperating but it's expected. The three inform Danny that he is now being held by the League until they can determine the best next step.
For the first time, Danny speaks to them and says "You can't do that! Finals are in two weeks! What the fuck am I suppose to do that? It's literally my second final semester!"
It doesn't work and Danny finds himself taken back to the Watch Tower to be once again interrogated. It's back to square one with Danny/Phantom. He isn't responding to any of their questions but this time rather out of a sense of protection of his self and mind, it's out of pure spite. They're making him miss his finals, of course he's going to give them nothing in return.
The most they're able to get out of him at one point is that why should he trust them? Why should he trust heroes who only care about themselves and their image? Even if he's young and inexperienced, he does his job and does it quick and they need to leave him alone.
It's implied he doesn't trust the older heroes in any regard and this is true, they only want to learn how he got his powers, where his rouges are from, and why he fought and ran from the League. Nothing else, nothing more.
Danny/Phantom doesn't trust the League in any regard so why should he even attempt to cooperate?
And that's all I have :)

Batman Danny Phantom vs Superman; some thoughts
I enjoy the many Batfam x danny phantom fics i've seen but consider that phantom has a suite of powers similar to superman.
Phantom has intangibility among other powers, and he's already half dead anyway. He might as well fight superman. When you think about it though, he could probably find kryptonite SOMEWHERE in the ghost zone, if he REALLY needed to get serious about it.
Although I feel like Danny probably is a fan and would not be seriously fighting Superman to the death. Plus I think Superman would realize he's fighting a teenager and then feel a little bad, or at least he'd cotton on that Phantom isn't serious about the fight either and is just messing around.
Danny was big fan of space stations, shuttles, all things orbital really. Not that Danny had any time to indulge in his hobbies since his half-death...
After kicking Pariah Dark's ass, enough was enough. He laid down some ghost attack rules with his usual rogues, after they all started calling him the king for some reason (lol he is in denial about that but rolling with it). Now, if they wanted to spook and scare in the realm of the living, or otherwise antagonize Danny, they had to schedule it ahead of time. Or else, they would not only be yeeted back into the Ghost Zone, but also do time in Walker's prison. (and sometimes community service)
Now Danny has a little more free time, to explore all the junk floating in Earths outer atmosphere! And obviously he invites himself into the Justice League's awesome HQ. He stalks the corridors of the Watchtower invisibly and intangibly, a fly on the wall, for days on end. He would insist he's not being creepy. Or villainous for that matter. When he mentions this JL ghosting to his friends, Tucker points out to him that if any league members catch on to his behavior, they will think he's some kind of supervillain, casing the place before an attack!
OK, so it sounds like it's time to make his presence known, before anyone gets the wrong idea! Only Danny is still awkward as hell. And how do you normally introduce yourself to them after you spent 3 weeks familiarizing yourself with every facet of the wiring of their airlock systems.
Everything obviously goes completely wrong when Phantom just sorta phases up through the floor in the middle of a casual meeting between a few of the human league members.
All he's done is introduce himself, but the atmosphere has gotten WAY too tense for Phantom's liking, and he tries easing the tension by saying "someone should crack a window in here" but Danny's still eager to talk about the orbital base so he disarmingly adds "actually I could probably do that by crossing some of the wires in this wall if i wanted-" and he is cut off by everyone leaping into attack mode because
THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A THREAT ON ALL OF THESE *AIR BREATHERS'* LIVES.
It's worrying to everyone how none of these experienced heroes seem to be capable of landing a hit on Phantom. The send the base into extreme lock-down mode, so that nothing can get in or out. Well that's the idea anyway. Phantom just sorta leaves. Through a wall. right out into space.
Worried the new rogue will be capable of doing something from the outside, they get a message out to Superman, that something (possibly alien) capable of surviving in no atmosphere broke into the Watchtower to make vague threats against the heroes, though no one was injured. Superman heads up right away to see if he can lay eyes on the surprise enemy.
To everyone's shock, although Superman immediately engaged the villain, he hasn't been able to do much, if any damage to him. Phantom seems to be having fun seeing Superman in action, up close. He's barely bothering to explain himself in between quips.
Clark starts to see this for what it is. "Are you... A child???" He reckons.
"Uh, sorta? I mean I was when I died!" Danny jokes.
That's concerning. "You seem pretty keen on fighting with me, but it seems like you aren't even trying to go on the offensive. Why is that?" Superman starts to give him some space.
"Well, I'm not used to pulling my punches. With my usual cast of rogues, I don't have to worry about accidentally killing any of them!" Danny is not sure if any of his abilities can harm a kryptonian, but he doesn't wanna risk it!
-----
If you've got any other ideas to add to this feel free to add on in a reblog or reply!
I feel like eventually the JL would end up hiring Phantom to outfit the entire Watchtower with anti-ghost shielding.

i recently rewatched this movie as well, for the first time since i saw it when it came out in theaters 17 years (💀) ago. even without everything OP mentions above, it's a remarkable work of art imo and i can't recommend a rewatch (or a first watch) enough, especially for my fellow queer ppl.
i actually have a lot of thoughts about the narrative structure of this movie, so i'm very sorry /gen to piggyback ride off this post but i genuinely didn't know where i could put these thoughts except here and have a chance of at least being a little bit heard. this is also gonna be full of spoilers so pls watch the movie first if you're so inclined 🙏 i promise i won't be too long, you'll see why.
anyway, the thing this movie does is refer back to previous lines, shots and ideas constantly. it's almost like lost (the tv show) in the way it evokes itself as it unfolds, whenever thematically prescient. that goes for the smallest things like single lines or shots, to the greater overarching structure. its basic premise isn't anything out of the ordinary, it follows the standard "(speedy) setup, intensifying intrigue and tension, 1st release of tension, low point, re-encouragement, intensifying intrigue and tension and final release of tension" structure just as you would expect it to (especially given the fact that it's essentially one big homage (iykyk) to classic action movies).
however, 1) despite inheriting a good third of its DNA from said classics, it stands VERY much on its own legs. the comedy and editing are unlike anything you'll normally see (in a good way) and all the one liners that are given gravitas in the movie are actually inventions of the writers, not of other movies. it LOVES what it references and parodies; like the director said in an interview there is no sneer here, no contempt. it knows action movies are, for the most part, fucking stupid and that by association it itself is fucking stupid and that that's a good thing. it also knows that there is a part to buddy action movies that is inherently gay. the crux of the whole "buddy cop romcom" is that it's simultaneously a joke (where the red herring mystery and the preposterous logic of the world are concerned) and not a joke (where angel and danny are concerned).
ergo, 2) the entire structure evokes, as OP mentions, angel's relationship with his ex girlfriend for the beginning portion, and then more and more his relationship with danny. there is, in the way this movie is structured and edited, a real, tangible transfer being documented over time from the things angel's japanese peace lily and his notepad symbolize (trust me there's a whole lot) over to danny and sandford. you can tell that the writers (i think wright and pegg worked on this for over a year and a half?) took the whole "the romance isn't connected to the actual plot" point seriously, bc danny and angel's relationship is so intricately tied to the murders in sandford that removing it makes everything fall together like a house of cards. just like all the movies it explicitly references (like lethal weapon, bad boys 2, and point break most importantly), the dynamic makes this movie work, but in more ways than you would think.
so, the only way i could think of that would show ppl, even those who have seen the movie, what i mean was by anally cataloguing all the instances of callbacks etc in the movie and talking a bit about my thoughts concerning various narrative strands (especially concerning the romance) as i went along. so uh, if you wanna read 8k of poorly proofread bullet points (no pun intended) about hot fuzz, i got you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I just watched Hot Fuzz again and I need to talk about it.
Tumblr media
The writers for Hot Fuzz have said several times that Nicolas originally had a female love interest but she took up too much time without being connected to the murder plot so they removed her completely and instead gave her core dialogue and scenes to Danny, making him the love interest.
The movie constantly makes connections between Danny and Nicolas’ ex-girlfriend. For example, she complained about Nicolas forgetting her birthday so later on Nicolas panics when nobody told him it was Danny’s birthday. She told him he has to find someone he can love more than work and by the end he chose Danny over working in London. He gifts Danny flowers and wins him a stuffed toy. They spend the night out together followed by Danny inviting Nicolas home. They have a romantic theme that only plays during their emotional scenes. We even see the exact moment Nicolas realise he’s in love with Danny when the old lady asks if he’s buying flowers for a special someone and he says “….Yes” with a shy little smile.
Tumblr media
The only thing missing is an actual kiss but in the Cornetto trilogy romantic relationships are rarely sealed with a kiss. In Shaun of The Dead the main romantic couple Shaun and Liz never kissed once and they had as much physical contact as Nicolas and Danny.
It’s funny to watch this movie and realise it has more queer content than some more modern movies and shows that are hailed as good queer media.
Like, I’ve never heard anyone accuse Hot Fuzz of queerbaiting but because it treats Nicolas and Danny’s relationship the same way most movies treat straight romances in the genre (it was literally originally written as a straight romance) people just didn’t notice it was a queer movie or thought it was a joke on homoerotic buddy cop movies. If it came out today it would absolutely be on the queer movie list.

She let out a shaky breath at Valka’s words, her warm tone of voice helping to slightly ease her nerves.
Though she still felt guilty about the fact that she was the one that caused her son to fall sick.
Giving her a small nod, she watched as Valka went over to Hiccup and checked him over.
Maybe she shouldn’t have told her, maybe it would just make Hiccup mad at her for ‘snitching,’ but… she didn’t want him to put his health in jeopardy just to help her.
Snapping her head up to lock eyes with Valka, she once again nodded. “Yeah- yeah of course,” she answered, making her way over to Toothless and starting to unfasten the baskets from his saddle.
By the time Hiccup had talked to her, she had finished untying the last basket and was now setting it on the ground. “No, Hiccup, if anyone should be sorry, it’s me. I… I’m pretty sure I know why you got sick, and that’s on me. I feel horrible and I just… I don’t want you to get even worse because you feel the need to help.” She sighed. “You’ve already done enough by giving me the opportunity to move in with your mom, that’s actually more than enough…” She picked up a couple baskets. “Just go to Gothi’s, please?”
——
After Hiccup left, Danny and Valka worked together to move all of Danny’s stuff into her new room.
It was small, but not cramped, ‘cozy’ might’ve been a better word for it. There were no windows and the room was right off the main area of the hut, and since there wasn’t a door, they made a makeshift curtain with an old blanket and hung it in the doorframe. All in all, it was pretty nice.
After the room was finished, Danny turned to look at Valka. “Thank you, for letting me move in. Seriously. I uh, I know I’m not the most ideal roommate in the world, and I’m sure Hiccup has probably told you about some stuff, so it really means a lot.” She chuckled lightly. “Just so you know, anytime I become too much, feel free to kick me out,” she joked, trying to cheer herself up.
Looking around the finished room one more, she asked, “Do you think we should go check on Hiccup? Or do you want to wait for him to come back?” She shrugged. “Either works.”
Hiccup's eyes were sad. This was exactly what he didn't want to happen. "No, don't blame yourself, alright? That day, all in all, ended up being a lot of fun. So what if I'm a little sniffly?"
Valka shook her head as well, but directed it at Hiccup. "Danny's right. Your heart is in the right place, but you need to take care of yourself. Now, go. We'll take care of Toothless, and we'll take care of everything else."
Hesitantly, he turned and made his way to Gothi's.
-------------
Valka wrapped an arm around Danny. "Oh, I'm happy to have you here. This place is as much yours as it is mine now."
Taking a breath, she tilted her head. "Well, he only mentioned one thing, out of concern, I believe. Something the two of you have in common?" Hiccup hadn't gone into detail, but Valka knew Danny got nightmares. "If you ever need me, no matter the hour, I'm just on the other side of our hut, understand?" Her expression became firm. "What? I wouldn't kick you out, dear. How awful..."
Valka nodded. "I think that's a good idea. I know Toothless left awhile ago to be with him, but they have been gone awhile, haven't they?"
-------------------
Hiccup was in Gothi's hut, sitting down as she moved about gathering herbs.
He was rubbing the side of his head where she'd smacked him with her staff for not seeing her sooner. "I was a little preoccupied," he'd said. "It really isn't that bad..." He had then proceeded to sneeze twice, then had to hold a hand to his forehead due to the throbbing pain.
Gothi gave him a look that would freeze a dragon in its tracks.
"Okay, okay, I should have seen you sooner. I'm sorry, Gothi."
By the time Danny and Valka had gotten to the elder Berkians' hut, Hiccup had fallen asleep, having been told by Gothi to lay down as she had put a cool cloth to his head. His eyes soon felt heavy after that, and despite fighting it, he had eventually drifted off.
Toothless was laying on the floor next to him, and lifted up his head as they walked in.
Valka greeted Gothi, then asked, "Is he alright?"
Gothi nodded. 'Slight fever, but nothing serious. Just a head cold. He should have come to me sooner, I could have stopped this before it got this far. He just needs a few days of rest and he'll be fine.'
Valka thanked Gothi before translating for Danny.
"We'll make sure he actually rests and doesn't try anything. He's like Stoick in that way."
The young chief stirred, blinking, forgetting where he was for a moment.
He sat up, the cloth falling into his lap as he looked at the crowded hut.
"Oh...hey, guys. Sorry, I uh...I should be getting home now..."
Gothi held out her staff, and he stayed put. 'Not until you know what you must do.'
"...Sounds a little dramatic, but okay."
As Gothi explained her directions to Hiccup, Valka turned to Danny, her face showing confusion.
"Danny? Why did you say earlier that this was your fault?" She wasn't being accusatory, she just wanted to understand.

The interrogation of the rat didn't lead to much, and Danny left as soon as it was over. Danny was concerned about how he was going to get to Kurtistown, but then his friend Amy said she was willing to fly him all the way there.
Danny met up with Amy. "Hey Danny!" Amy beamed. "Hey Amy!" Danny said. They both hugged. "Thanks for helping me, you really are the best person in the Universe Amy!" Danny gushed, very thankful to have such an amazing and flawless friend. "It's really no problem. I was about done in Chicago anyways, and I've been in the tropical rainforest for too long. It's time for me to broaden my horizons." She said
They both got into her plane, and she took off. Danny was delighted to see that this time she not only had Biscoff, but a chocolate bar. "What chocolate is this? I've never seen this." Danny asked. "Oh, it's my brand of chocolate.. It's mixed nuts and milk chocolate and it makes you abnormally strong for 24 hours!" She smiled. "You have a chocolate company?" Danny asked. "I am the CEO and owner of several different companies!" Amy replied.
They finally landed in Kurtistown. "I think I'm gonna stay in Kurtistown too. Come find me when you want to leave." Amy said. They both waved to each other and walked in opposite directions. He walked up to the main building. There was a man sitting at the front desk.
"Hello, I'm here to talk to Kurtis Conner." Danny said. The man didn't look up from his computer. "Do you have an appointment?" He asked. "No, I-" Danny tried to speak but the man cut him off, "No appointment, no Kurtis Conner. The mayor is a very busy man, and I highly doubt he wants to talk to some kid." The man looked very grumpy, and still refused to look up from his computer.
"We're the same age! We were born basically like a month apart!" Danny cried, beginning to get frustrated himself. "Whatever, if you don't-" This time the man was cut off. "Hey what's the ruckus? I'm trying to focus over here." Kurtis said. "Kurtis!" Danny cheered.
"Danny? What are you doing here?" He asked, Kurtis then turned to the man at the desk, who finally looked up from his computer screen, "Why were you yelling at my friend!" Kurtis said to the man. The man turned red, and started sweating. "I- um-" He was interrupted again. "Go to the corner and think about what you've done." Kurtis demanded. The man got up and stood in the corner.
"So, Danny! What brings you to Kurtistown?" Kurtis asked. "I was just wondering if you knew anything about Marcelle Toing or know anyone that could know." Danny said. Kurtis looked concerned, "Isn't that the rat that kidnapped you?" Danny nodded.

"Well, um, I personally don't know anything but I have heard some talk.." Kurtis whispered, "We better go to my office and talk about this." They both walked into Kurtis's office.
"I've heard some things in the mayor community about some, uh, concern." Kurtis looked down at some papers on his desk, avoiding Danny's gaze. "Concern? About what?" he asked. "Well, I've heard that some people are maybe, uh, concerned about some certain individuals that are 'too funny for the public' but I don't know." Kurtis whispered. Danny looked confused. "Too funny? What do you mean Kurtis?" Danny started whispering too. "Some people are concerned that if people find someone too funny then they could feel too goofy, and well, the whole system collapses" Kurtis continued, now looking around at their surroundings in a paranoid manner.
"Must be a pretty fragile system if it can be brought down by feeling too goofy." Danny said looking very disturbed, "So are you saying that some people paid Marcelle to abduct me because they see me as a threat to the system?" He asked. Kurtis nodded yes. There was a knock on the door, and they both jumped.
"Come in.." Kurtis said timidly. The door opened slowly. "Can I stop being in the corner now?" The man asked. Danny and Kurtis huffed in unison, "Fine! Go!" Kurtis answered. The man was about to leave, "So, what are you guys talking about?" He asked.
The two guys look panicked! "Chicken helmets!" scrambled Danny. "Cat blindfolds!" Kurtis said at the same time. "Chicken helmets and cat blindfolds!" They said in unison. Silence filled the room.
"Okay." The man left and closed the door behind him.
