Had a great dream with my biggest crush at the moment, Dan Lauria. There was no sex (damn it) but the dream was very romantic. I’m pretty sure Dan is gay although my evidence is circumstantial. Years ago he wrote a play that had a gay military theme. How many straight guys write a play with a gay theme? He had a 10 year marriage in the ‘90s and has been single for over 20 years. Great looking man.

-Your not the only one to think that. The evidence maybe circumstantial, but there's sure is a lot of it. Of course with no real proof, Dan has to be straight.
But looking at this young pic of him. He looks SO butch, he has to be gay.😁

Nikolay Dayhes, one of my favorite russian chubs. A mountain of a man!
I'm such a sucker for a big daddy with classic clean cut side part hair.
He could pass for Dan Lauria's brother, who I see now has lost a ton of weight unfortunately @maturemenoftvandfilms

So far...
We watched the movie, "Noelle" to kick off the month. We pivoted to A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving 'cause we hadn't watched it before or on the Day as we intended. Still, it was a sweet experience with which to catch up.
Next thing I know, Kimmer mentions "An Echolls Family Christmas" from the 2004 tv series Veronica Mars.
Definitely not your typical seasonal classic... but a classic none-the-less.
From IMDB:
"Veronica investigates missing poker winnings, and Keith is hired by Lynn Echolls to track down one of the potential stalkers of her husband, Aaron."
Gambling. Infidelity. Deceit. A stabbing. And a Victorian quartet caroling for party-goers.
Like I said, not your typical seasonal classic. 😉
The next evening, we're actually teeing up "My Dad's Christmas Date" on Amazon when we get distracted by my Wonder Years YouTube playlist and find ourselves hijacked by "The Wonder Years (1988) Interview with Dan Lauria" that runs straight into "The Wonder Years (1988) Interview with Danica McKellar" that runs straight into "The Wonder Years (1988) Interview with Crystal McKellar" at which point we had the presence of mind to shut it down so we could, you know, sleep.
I say we were "hijacked" but the truth is, because we're such enduring fans of the show (and the new one), it was all fascinating. About forty minutes worth of fascinating before we managed to pull ourselves away. 🫤🤨
Aside from television seasonal distractions, Kimmer's busy setting up Christmas gatherings on the 21st and 25th. She couldn't get the Thanksgiving Day band back together on one night... but between the two dates, that's everyone with a touch of overlap. HUZZAH!
There has already been, by the way, a lot of discussion and thought focused on the menus for both evenings. So this train's definitely a'rollin'. 😁
And we are completely, legitimately looking forward to those Christmas evenings. Without a hint of irony (he said), it's gonna be a relaxing, enjoyable time. Both times.
In the meantime, I've been firing up our Christmas card-making machinery since Thanksgivingtime. I started with buying Christmas stamps from the Capital Hill post office right there by the light rail station. On Black Friday I picked up two sets of cards from Hobby Lobby. Fifty percent off. Then I updated our address list, reaching out to various friends and family as necessary (each of whom responded within hours). With our letter in mind, I gathered the various details spread our across our year that I might wanna include as our kind of Year In Review to share with family and friends. The effort took about a week. Finally, I've been thinking straight through to yesterday what I'd like to write each person, each family, with whom we're sharing Christmas wishes. Little handwritten ditties on the inside of each card aside from our 2024 one-pager.
It's a full-blown process, obviously. A process that requires a lot of thought about individuals and families, friends all, which is what I enjoy about indulging this effort every year to this day.
☺️
Lastly in this holiday update, we finally got our Advent Calendar up 'n running. Seven days late, our plan is to open a door once in the morning and once in the evening until we're caught up. For the first time, we're using a square wooden calendar painted bright red with drawers around the outside and a Christmas scene portrayed in white at the center. I found it at Value Village days after Christmas 2023 and have been looking forward to putting it in play for its intended purpose.
Each drawer contains two Starlight peppermint candies and a kid's Bible verse that, when you add 'em all up, does a good job of communicating a basic biblical story while the season in which we're caught up spins and swirls around us. In it's own way, the calendar helps us maintain a steady pace toward Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, a counterbalance to the headlong rush this experience would otherwise be.
And yeah.
That speaks to us.
☺️

"Just Another Day"
A Comfortable Play

"Just Another Day" at Theater 555 was written by Dan Lauria and directed by off Broadway guru, Eric Krebs. The play begins with projections of old stars of yesteryear to the song "No Strings Attached". When the two actors take the stage, Dan Lauria and Patty McCormack seem confused... at-least Dan (Man) does. McCormack (Woman) seems refined in her salmon colored sun dress. Often appalled at Lauria's language, she seems distant to his behavior.
In this one hour and forty-five minute play, the two have several things in common... they both share a love for old movies, the New York Times Sunday cross word puzzle. Later we would find out that their love of art is due to McCormack being a writer and Lauria being a painter (he is not sure if he was a house painter or a canvass painter).
In Eric Krebs direction, the audience gets good banter, in Lauria's writing we get jokes that for the most part land pretty well. Although his body of work is fair, the way the play is laid out is fun, comfortable and easy to watch as these two really good actors talk about things that are relevant as well as insane. The insanity part comes to the forefront as in time we realize that they are both in a sanatorium. As time goes on the audience accepts their dementia and Lauria is deft in how the characters put forth the dialogue all throughout the play; insanity brought to sanity.
The costumes are regal on McCormack (Bettina Bierly); her salmon outfit is beautiful, even though it is subdued, In the second act he off white knit suit is classy, like her. In Lauria, he is dressed like a mans-man; a guy who was from Brooklyn, N.Y., a former Marine. In Andy Evan Cohen's sound, the bell that regulates the behavior of the two is front and center. The subtle echo effects too add to this play in that he gives it a bit of mystery in these two actors. It is the lighting that falters a bit here; Joan Racho-Jansen does not hit the characters the way it should have. The audience often cannot pick up the entire body of the characters , especially at the head level. This has the audience having difficulty seeing the actors up close and therefore we never get the personal feeling of the two when they are at their most deep in their feelings about life. The characters are older and they have a lot to say; even if it is silly what they talk about, the two are still interesting to listen to. Not being able to see them weakened the dialogue.
In this unique play, "Just Another Day" stay's focused on the characters life. It gently gives us the inner thoughts of the two, it also shows us how corky they have become in a very playful way. Are past movies escapism? Where the movies that big a part of their lives. Is their "hit list" something that they thought about when they were sane? The play skillfully omits a lot of questions that the audience may have. This is the type of play that can keep you thinking about it for a long time. We also have to ask... what were these people really like in their younger years?
In the one set, a comfortable park- type setting, the show glides through the dialogue by two actors who wow the audience with their style and verve.

"Miller's Girl" which runs a tad over an hour and a half is never boring; it is also not great, either. The premise of the story is a good one... a "Lolita" type of writing which never hits the fever nor the depth of the famous book.

Capturing Magic
In the world of photography, timing is the key to everything. While skilled compositions and technical proficiency are undoubtedly crucial, the perfect lighting can create the perfect photo. Nowadays, we can determine any light ourselves and are no longer dependent on any natural light source, thanks to the developed technology. We can turn every day into a night by using the right filters. And we can illuminate every night to be seen as a day. A typical process, especially in the film industry.
