a small diy recommendation from annoying anarcho!
hey! are you tired of mixing acrylic paint with random shit to paint your patches? interested in a paint thats a little bit too opaque and probably needs to be watered down? (thus giving you a bit more to work with!)
then heres an idea!: wall paint samples.
ive been using $5 wall paint sample tubs since i started making patches, and holy SHIT it works super well! since the paint is so opaque you dont tend to need very much, and because its meant for walls its overly strong and water resistant. the small tubs also give you plenty considering how little you tend to need!
"annoying anarcho! what about the fumes!" idk but it works great. wear a mask or something while you paint if you're really worried.
only con is that you need to be confident in your abilities! if you mispaint you need to either go over it in a different colour or wipe it away with water asap, otherwise shits great! if you want colours that arent different varieties of white then mix it with acrylic, hypocritical of me to suggest i know, but it works a charm.
or, if you dont like paint then household bleach can be pretty decent! its permanent, has a cool looking colour +effect and is generally in most households, just make sure your fabric works with it and do some test strips!
(wear protection when handling chemicals!!)

Anon recently learned that some people use fume hoods while soldering, and that's making them wonder if that's the norm and they're the weird one for just breathing the fumes all the time.

I made this yarn bowl at one of those "paint your own ceramics" places! It was a birthday gift from my older sister ❤️
The loop cutout to hold yarn looked like a fish hook to me, so I made the whole thing a fish bowl! I painted some of my old betta fish on it, as well as one of the snails I had

the DIY stuff that i see online to me feels increasingly less about making something functional because its cheaper with the bonus of customizing it and more about showing off how much free time & resources someone has to burn. i just think the spirit of DIY should ultimately be about achieving the ‘good enough’ factor. your DIY bookcase doesn’t need to look like an art installation it just needs to hold your books… and that is still a worthwhile goal!!

Today I have crafted these two pen(cil) bags/rolls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How I did it:
I cut a large leather rectangle (the black base) and a long band of leather (the light brown).
Then I cut slits in the large leather rectangle, The slits are slightly more narrow than the width of the brown leather band.
Then I threaded the brown slice through the slits in the black large rectangle base.
Then I stitched one end of the brown band onto the large black rectangle base.
On the other end of the slice one can do whatever with the excess band. I just tucked it somehow to the backside.

So, How to Build an Astrolabe: Part Two
Plate to represent the Tropics and the Equator
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The construction continues into part two!
The middle plate--known as the Tympan--is perhaps the most complex piece of the entire astrolabe, so I am going to be breaking it into a few parts to make it more readable
The first part starts with just three concentric circles for the Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn, and the Equator.
No math needed!
This is a step-by-step guide to the complete construction of an astrolabe that I think might exist. At least, in any accessible form.
My goal is for this to be as accessible as possible for any kind of reader, so if there are any question, free free to reach out
🚀 Enjoy! Stay safe and keep learning, fellow chrononauts 🚀

I got a new project bag for my knitting!
Tumblr media
It keeps my knitting safe in transit, prevents my yarn from falling on the floor while I knit, and looks cute all at the same time! 💖

Image dump time!! Here's a collection of little things I have been working on. Those black boots I painted/embroidered was the last project I was working on before I got covid :(
But I had the opportunity to work on a few smaller things while I was recovering! I am doing better now, I am quarantining for a little longer just to be careful 💚

[Image ID: The first image is of a little fishbone stamp I made out of an old eraser. It's a little messy looking and I used red ink to stamp it onto paper.
The next two images are of a rectangular white cotton patch, with a red vertical line on the side and about 15 blue horizontal lines throughout it with a blank gap at the top, mimicking notebook paper. This project is unfinished currently.
The next three images are of a headband with foam antlers I painted to look as realistic as I could, and both antlers are wrapped with leaf ribbon and wire-stemmed pink and white flowers. There's a little fake bird glued to the top of the right antler.
The last two images are of a flowery pillowcase that I mended using little squares of scrap cotton fabric underneath, with visible stitching throughout it to secure the entire patch onto the pillowcase. The hole I mended was about the size of a penny I think. End ID]

i know they were total menaces stealing shit from their guardians. i mean the object would have to be something they werent intending to use but even if you werent going to use it, it would still be annoying to have something you bought disappear lol
