Hey bestie I’m trial and erroring a Rabastan design and I’m struggling so what does he look/dress like in your gorgeous mind because no one gets him like you do
Hello :D and thank youu <3333
Okay, I have been thinking about his appearance from time to time. the main consistent detail is that he isn't very "sleazy" in looks. He's pretty put together. He is wearing an expensive suit, maybe a couple buttons undone, and a loose tie with those shiny black loafers, but overall he's pretty clean. His most casual would be dress pants and button up that's kinda undone.
(HIS FANCY STYLE GETS REGULUS SO GIDDY!!! Like if you ever saw those photos of someone standing on their s/o feet THATS SO THEMMM)
I've been torn over having him with long hair or short hair. But in the end, shorter hair is more fitting for him, I think. In a way that expresses that he doesn't have the luxury of keeping his hair long like Rodolphus if he's constantly fighting for something. So I imagine something like the short wavy hair you see when you search it up on Pinterest for men (don't ask me how I know that). When I first sketched him out, I gave him long hair but it didn't fit.
I couldn't find a proper description in the HP wiki nor do I remember what he is described as in the books when he first shows up. Only that is a thin man. So I think his face is slightly sunken in and his entire body is pretty lanky. And he's pretty tall (HEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIM AND REGULUS HEIGHT DIFFERENCE!!). His hair and eyes are both pretty dark and his skin is a little tan since I actually see him as a very outdoorsy person and amazing, like, really smooth without blemishes (for some reason).
(Pandora starts breaking out when she hit puberty and she contemplates torturing Rabastan's skincare out of him) (he has none)
Don't take this as seriously, but I picture something like Victor from The Corpse Bride (I've never seen that movie honestly) but yk, just for fun lol.
He doesn't have this overly messy style because he's like this black sheep (Like Sirius or Barty) because of his mother's family influence. With his maternal (a side branch from Averys), he's very well dressed and groomed, they made sure of that! The Avery side of his family loves him, though it's partly because Rabastan looks/acts more like his mother.
This brings up another thing that is: he is very much a jewelry person. His suits, expensive but plain, are often decorated and slightly weighted down by layered necklaces with heavier stones and real metals and his fingers are more cold than warm by silver rings. He got his ear pierced at a young age and has so many passed down from his mother, like all his other jewelry. In a way, all of that seems almost like armor that covers/protects him.
Side note: HE WOULD'VE WIPED THE FUCKING FLOOR WITH THOSE SILVER FINGER GUARDS!
He would've HATED cheap jewelry and when mood rings were released in 1975, he choked when he saw Sirius wearing one for the first time. Rodolphus and Regulus almost called a healer because he was turning blue. (Sirius bought more out of spite after that)
Modern Au Rabastan would have a Rolex collection. I said what I said.
I know I bring up suits when wizarding folk don't wear that so, his robes are often plainer (compared to Rodolphus, keep that in mind) but still pretty expensive looking with complex embroidery. His more extravagant robes came from his mother (since I don't think that size mattered all that much between men and women or boys and girls). Cliche moment, but his clothes were very much darker in color, but not always black. More like a darker purple or a darker blue or green, I'm thinking something like what you would get when you use velvet, how colors are almost really shiny or almost black.
I can also see him using makeup! Though very light I think he's very open and knowledgeable about a lot of things since he was basically treated as a doll by his mother's twin sister :D
#i am such a yapper omg this insane#this came out so much longer that I would've expected but lets hope I did not disapoint#unfortunately i think i have said too much so u can just slap a button up and black pants him and it would still be him dw#HE HIDES HIS SHITHEAD BEHAVIOR UNDER EXPENSIVE SUITS AND JEWELRY AND ROLEXES AND CARS DO NOT BE FOOLED BY HIM!!#this also reminds me that i have a pin board for wizarding fashion#SO U KNOW I WAS SCROLLING THROUGH THAT#sigh he's so don't let me be misunderstood by the animals coded#okay forgive me i am embrassing myself here#the soldier and the violinist#rabastan lestrange#rabastan#marauders era#the marauders era#ivan gets the mail#death tag

"death is bad" wrong!
Death is a natural cycle, it is not moral, it is the one thing exempt from morality.
What IS bad is someone's life being shortened against their will, because it destroys ALL potentiality of that person, good or not. It is robbing someone of opportunity to exist and grow or shrivel. It is robbing someone of their Time, of a really deep autonomy. But please, do not ever say Death is bad, because that isn't what you mean. Death fuels you every day.

#death #murder
saw a poll that was like "which of these random specific experiences do you have" and one option was "i've been in a room with a murderer" and. now i'm thinking about my classmate who got murdered in high school. i didn't know her super well but we had multple classes together and we sat together in art class one semester. she was cool. she was nice to me. i'm still heartbroken about what happened 17 years later. she deserved so much more and so much better. i hope she knows i'm thinking about her.

Hello friend! I’ve never sent an ask before tehe but i was thinking about your post on rodolphus because your interpretation of him eats my brain and specifically the part where you mentioned how he acknowledges him and regulus’ relationship as strange but doesn’t do anything about kept pushing itself to the front of my mind because why wouldn’t it. Anyway my actual ask is, what do you think rodolphus’ opinion on regulus is or their relationship if you think they have or had one? Like does he approve of regulus for his brother or just as a person? Did his opinion on regukus change from when regukus was young to when he grew up? So many questions I believe you have the answer to
In a small summary: He views Regulus as a part of Rabastan.
Background Info: The Lestranges, despite what you might think, are very VERY family oriented people, (maybe with a couple of exceptions but family above all mostly) they are distant but that’s how they love (a clear example is Rodolphus’ “freedom as a love language”). In fact, a lot of these wealthy, old family pure blood branches are (Blacks, Avery, Malfoy etc etc) (But not Rosier which is why Evan and Pandora are also viewed as an anomaly to the high class pure bloods.) (But I won’t get into that rn).
Anyways back to Reg and Rod.
Rodolphus has always viewed Regulus as a part of Rabastan. This mostly stems from his choosing not to care but also because Reg and Rab have been around each other from the very moment they met. From late boyhood to mid 20s, Rod has always seen Rabastan with Regulus, on his arm, in his arm, sharing a seat, a bed, etc etc. So he’s just associated Regulus with his brother.
But that doesn’t mean he sees Regulus as his brother! In fact, I could say Rodolphus knows little to nothing about Regulus and that’ll be more accurate than anything else. It’s best to remember that Rodolphus and Rabastan are more brothers than they are twins. There is always going to be a disconnect. They weren’t each others constant, they are nothing alike. Yeah sure maybe they were familiar as children but by 8 years old they were so different it was almost as bizarre as the Rosier twins being so very much the same. They don’t have that same relationship as twins that other pure blood twins do (unhealthily codependent, intertwined in ways beyond romance or platonic understanding, that’s how pure blood twins are raised, they are viewed as one in their families (except Rosiers))
Rodolphus isn’t close to Regulus at all because he never had a chance to meet him in his “prior to Rabastan” days. From afar, it does kinda seem dehumanizing to Regulus because Rodolphus associates Regulus with Rabastan and doesn’t see him beyond that. So he never had an opinion on Regulus that didn't involve Rabastan.
They barely interact because Rabastan keeps them apart without really realizing it (insecurity and possessiveness) and Regulus is content with just hiding out in Rabastan's room or hiding in Rabastan's corner during meetings while playing his violin honestly (he doesn’t need another wizard poking around HIS family) (Ahem ahem James… who said that WHO SAID THAT) and Rodolphus doesn't mind either since he isn't all that interested in Regulus as his own person overall.
And this apathy and dehumanization isn't just to Regulus, it's also to Bellatrix as well, he doesn't really see her as anything past his wife as worst and his coworker whom he always gets put with at best. He's just not that concerned with people outside his family, which is why a lot of purebloods actually genuinely like Rabastan but can only respect Rodolphus.
As for his thoughts on their relationship, because Rod associated Regulus with Rabastan, the relationship didn't phase him at all. In fact, he sort of expected them to announce that they were getting married at any second.
In a sort of fucked way, it's like this: You and your sibling are family and together, but they also have their own stuff and you have your stuff but their stuff isn't yours, and yours isn't theirs.
Now, I never meant to insinuate this, and I'm so sorry lol, but Rodolphus does not view their relationship (Age gap) as strange. In fact, no one does. Rabastan and Regulus's relationship is meant to be weird to us (a viewer/outsider who doesn't understand high society pureblood views) but normal to them (The people who practice and believe in those views that get passed down the family line/spread around). It's a an interesting part of their relationship that these wealthy purebloods don't find their relationship weird but everyone else does. And it plays into this idea of, there is something wrong with this seemingly perfect, unassuming thing. Which also ties with Rodolphus not looking twice at Regulus and Rabastan!!
Like an example is Severus, who never aligned himself with these practices. So often I think, whenever he sees Rab and Reg, he has to excuse himself because he finds it hella fucking weird but he can't do/say anything about it because everyone else is like, "This is fine."
Cue Snape's heavy side eye at Rabastan during DE meetings and he's like, "Bffr rn"
#ivan gets the mail#if the first half is weird its because I was working yesterday and only had my phone me lol#would reg and rod know each other if rab wasn't in the picture? fuckkkk nooooo#reg would just see him as his cousin's husband and rod probably wouldn't even remember his name#he calls reg sirius and there is just dead silence#the soldier and the violinist#lestrange brothers#death tag

Hello! I’m Jackal 💚 Welcome To My Blog 💚
I’m a digital (and less frequently traditional) artist from the USA, and I’ve been on this site for over 10 years now. I talk a lot in the tags, since I have a million thoughts all the time forever lol. I love fantasy and art and poetry and nature
If you message me and I don’t respond for a long time, please don’t take it personally! My mental health isn’t perfect and I’m frequently forgetful or overwhelmed, so there are times when I am super social and times when I am completely withdrawn and it becomes very difficult to communicate consistently as a result. Super sorry in advance for any trouble and thanks for your understanding 💚
Art blog: greenieart.tumblr.com
Carrd (mostly just my commission info if you’re interested!)
FULL INFO ABOUT MY TAGGING SYSTEM BELOW THE CUT
PERSONAL TAGS:
I frequently reblog posts about grief and death and bones and graves and such under the tag #death tag, and I also post about love and community under the tag #love tag. My queue is tagged #q.
TRIGGER TAGS:
I tag triggers in the #trigger format (ie #bugs #blood #suicide #animal death). I try to tag most common triggers, but apologize in advance if I miss a post here or there, and if you have a specific trigger you’d like me to tag or watch out for, feel free to message me or drop an anon in my askbox. I also occasionally reblog nudity and tag it #nudity but I do not tag things #NSFW as I don’t want to get my blog flagged.
OTHER:
Unrelated to tagging but still something I feel I should mention: generally, I try to avoid reblogging guilt-inducing posts, even if I agree with the message. I reblog donation posts occasionally, but since I’m sure everyone on Tumblr follows well over a hundred blogs at least, I don’t reblog every donation post that crosses my dash as I don’t want to flood my followers with more GFMs than they can keep up with.
Other than triggers and the specific personal tags mentioned above, I also occasionally will tag specific media for my own reference. It’s rare that I do this though, so it would not be effective to use my media tags to filter that content out if you don’t want to see it. If needed, feel free to send me a message to ask me to tag certain media, but I might not be able to consistently tag it, so if you are really uncomfortable with something I’m blogging about a lot, you might be better off unfollowing for your own comfort. I ultimately believe in the concept of cultivating your own online experience, so if I am not a comfortable part of that experience, no hard feelings! 💚

"A story doesn't need a theme in order to be good" I'm only saying this once but a theme isn't some secret coded message an author weaves into a piece so that your English teacher can talk about Death or Family. A theme is a summary of an idea in the work. If the story is "Susan went grocery shopping and saw a weird bird" then it might have themes like 'birds don't belong in grocery stores' or 'nature is interesting and worth paying attention to' or 'small things can be worth hearing about.' Those could be the themes of the work. It doesn't matter if the author intended them or not, because reading is collaborative and the text gets its meaning from the reader (this is what "death of the author" means).
Every work has themes in it, and not just the ones your teachers made you read in high school. Stories that are bad or clearly not intended to have deep messages still have themes. It is inherent in being a story. All stories have themes, even if those themes are shallow, because stories are sentences connected together for the purpose of expressing ideas, and ideas are all that themes are.
#original post#text post#500#1k#2k#btw i know my definition of death of the author is loosey goosey here#it wasn't the main point so i went informal with it! as ppl in the tags have pointed out it isn't exact#and i do recommend reading the wikipedia article or similar (possibly even the essay itself if you're narsty) if you want to learn more!#wasn't expecting this to take off so my apologies to my barthes-heads out there#love you mwah#5k#10k#15k#20k
