My town and many of the neighbouring ones were hit by the recent floods in Valencia. The town I once knew is completely destroyed as a result.
Many people have lost everything: their home, their cars, their pets, their loved ones... Official sources say 1900 missing people. Over 200 dead. There's probably more.
In an attempt to help my community, I'm joining the Artists for Valencia initiative.
If you donate 5€ or more to any of the organizations or fundraisers in this thread and show me proof, I will draw you a sketchy bust of a character of your choice, like these:
I will also be donating some of the money I make through regular commissions to organizations helping restore our towns.
Please help us.

Wait, wait, wait. There were having a minute of silence for the victims of the natural disaster and subsequent intentional abandonment by both local and national government in Spain; again this was people who died in Spain due to a natural disaster and both political parties deliberate neglect, it had nothing to do with Israel or Palestine or politics or anything and yet the Israelis had to interrupt it by whistling
Again, Natural Disaster; in Spain.
We're honoring people who died in a natural disaster in Spain, because Spain has no government and that offends the Israelis
Is acknowledging other people suffer is antisemitic now? What the hell is happening?

Valencia is suffering
I haven't seen many people talk about what happened in Valencia here on tumblr, and I want to share what's happening because I have friends and friends of friends that were directly affected by the catastrophe.
On October 29, Valencia was affected by a meteorological phenomenon called DANA in Spanish, I think it's called "cut-off low" in English.
It flooded the streets like I’ve never seen happening here in Spain before. The water swept cars, trash bins and trees all over everywhere. Many people have gone missing, some of them are believed to still be under ruins or trapped in tunnels, and there are hundreds of deaths.
The streets of Valencia are dirty with stagnant water polluted by trash and animal corpses, many houses and infrastructures have been affected and people are in need of clean water, food, clothes, electricity and meds.
The weight of solving this situation has fallen onto the citizens. Politicians are doing nothing to help, and are making progress harder in my opinion.
Meteorologists had warned that the situation was going to be dangerous four days before and advised people to not go outside. The government of Valencia is the one that has the responsibility of declaring the alarm and halting laboral activities, but they didn’t do that until it was like six in the afternoon. Many died because businesses and companies threatened their employees so they went to work when there was hell outside.
The government of Spain could have done something when they saw how everything was going down, but they decided to play by the book, wash their hands, and act like they have nothing to do with this situation.
Now, days after the DANA, political parties are using the situation to promote themselves. The government of Spain in general is ruled by a centric-left wing party while the government of Valencia is ruled by a right wing party. The right-wing party is pointing at the central government saying it’s their fault, trying to distract people from the fact that they are the ones that had to do something in the first place. The central government decided that it was a good idea to send the president to the disaster zone dressed in a suit and accompanied by a lot of police officers when everyone is asking for help from the authorities and public services. He left the place with some stains on him, people were understandably angry.
For some reason, outside help is also being denied when it’s clearly needed. Here I want to thank the French for sending help nonetheless.
I hope things get better with the efforts of everyone here.

Can't believe I have to say this but
Spain's colonial past exists but it's not the time to talk about it
I've seen people say Spain deserves the Dana because of it's colonial past and I just - No. Don't. Like at all. People are dying, people have lost everything, people have gotten terribly sick and have no food or medicines. This is a horrible crisis. It's not the time to talk about this. FOCUS.

as many of you know, the DANA catastrophe is devastating all throughout southern spain, especially valencia.
i like to think i have enough followers to raise awareness that nobody's talking in the news: the disabled people such a deaf, blind people who couldn't be warned personally of the castrophe and were stuck in that awful situation and may have even died because of the terrible organisation of the government.
i beg you all to also think of them in these devastating moments

So I'm probably not going to be able to post that much, since I'm a volunteer for organizing the donations from Madrid to Valencia, and I'm in a group of young restaurateurs that are working on helping people restore personal items (photos, documents...) when the most important part of the cleaning is done. This is so people will stop throwing away their personal belongings that we can try to save, not everything will be saved but maybe it will help with the grief the Dana has caused.
So if anyone reading this is from Valencia please don't throw away your photos, put them on a bag with holes and hold onto them till we can go. We know this isn't a priority, but it is also important to let people know they have this option. For more information go to the Instagram page of the UPV. If anyone is interested in contacting this group this is the email: [email protected]

With all that's going on, i wanna come on here to say a huge thank you to France. Specifically to the group of firefighters, who despite not having permission from Spanish Authorities to come here, have chosen to do so on their own accord and HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE TO SHOW UP ON AN AFFECTED AREA. YES, EVEN BEFORE OUR OWN POLICE FORCE. YES, EVEN BEFORE OUR OWN MILITARY FORCES. WHO OUR POLITICIANS REFUSED TO DEPLOY BECAUSE "THEY WEREN'T NEEDED". Thank you so much for helping us.

PLEASE WE NEED YOUR HELP
Valencia has been harmed by the Dana and almost 300 has already died, some are still not found and there’s still people stuck on flooded houses and more!!!
Unfortunately, even though it was said through some social media that this accident would come, it was said publicly that it would stop around 6 pm, it did not, in fact, the flooding started around that hour and many people ended up being stuck or dead, by the time the actual alarm reached the people from Valencia, it was already 8 pm and many have already lost their lives or were unable to reach their houses
So what is a Dana? It is a meteorological phenomenon in the form of an air mass that completely separates itself from a very cold current and descends on another stream of hot air, producing large atmospheric disturbances accompanied by very intense rain
All of this because instead of giving money to the emergency services or evacuations, the money was given to other stuff because it was said they would never need this services
Until now
Many people from near has come to help clean but they still need the things they lost
If you can donate we would all be very grateful, everything from money to food could help
Please try to investigate as much as you can and find ways to donate, even if it’s just money
Many people are desperate because this emergency hasn’t reached many other countries for help like maybe some others would and we need much more help
Here is a list of everything you could donate if you find ways to do so on your cities or counties:
1)Clothes (the bigger the better, they have to be comfortable and fit anyone there who may need it)
2)Children’s clothing
3) Shoes and underwear (whatever you can: women's, men's, children's, socks...)
4) water
5)Milk
6) Non-perishable food (that is already cooked: preserves, cans... Let's keep in mind that many people will not have the option of cooking)
7) Breakfast (powdered milk, baby food, cookies...)
8) animal/pet food
9)medication (cough syrups, aspirin...)
10) Diapers, toilet paper, pads and tampons (this 2 last are very needed since they barely get any)
11) Blankets and coats
12) Solar chargers for mobile phones
13) Flashlights (if they are solar or dynamo, the better)
14) shovels (all Valencia is covered in mud and sand, it’s very much needed)
Even if you can’t donate, please share with as many people as you can!!!
Since I live in Spain I’m not sure about all of your situation or if you can help but please at least share!!!
Please show us that you care, no matter how. Here in Spain we always help other countries and it’s so sad how this situation isn’t reaching as much. You have no idea how much people in Valencia are suffering, and not only that, but their loved ones. Many haven’t even been found, and even some bodies are still stuck. It’s been so long since we lost so many people, innocent people, and it breaks my heart that it doesn’t reach other people as much as other situations do.
Please show us that Spain is more than just the vacation destination you go to in the summer, show us that you care! Show the people in Valencia that their situation matter for more than just their own country.

Why does YouTube have a black ribbon?
Is it because of the flooding in Valencia?
If anyone isn’t from Spain can you tell me if you have it or not?
