Thinking about how even when their lives were at stake the suitors just couldn’t let go of their arrogance

Odysseus is hunting them down in the halls, picking them off, clearly has the advantage, and they think they stand a chance while weaponless and in almost total darkness just because they’re familiar with the palace layout

When that one suitor is asking for mercy he’s still calling Odysseus ‘old king’ as if he isn’t still ruler, as if his power doesn’t matter since he’s been gone for 20 years, as if he’s some old man who just needs to be talked down like he isn’t killing men left and right

Also that one suitor was asking for mercy like five minutes after Ody walked in on him and his friends singing about killing his son and raping his wife like I’m sorry how did you think that was gonna play out???
