Some help please
Tumblr media
I took this picture back in 2017. I had permission from the woman who owns the shawl and unfortunately when I asked for a pattern she said it was a gift. I have searched FOR YEARS for this pattern. It’s not your typical granny square or willow granny square. And I have no experience with making items without a pattern of some sort. If anyone knows who made this or what the pattern is I would greatly appreciate the help. Please and thank you!

Does the idea of reading a crochet pattern make you want to scream?
Tumblr media
There are standard abbreviations for every crochet stitch. Here’s some basics.
Ch- chain
Sc- single crochet
Dc- double crochet
Hdc- half double crochet
Inc- increase
Dec- decrease
MR- magic ring
There’s also standard symbols
Stitches are separated by a comma,
What is in (), **, or [] will be repeated
X6 (or any other number) is how many times you will do the repeat
The number at the end of the row is how many stitches you end up with
Tumblr media
So here’s an example-
Working in continuous rounds
Round 1- 6 sc in MR -6
Round 2- (inc)x6 -12
Round 3- (sc, inc)x6 -18
Round 4- (2sc, inc)x6 -24
Continuous rounds tells us we will be working in the round and will not be joining between rounds.
Round 1- For this you start with 6 single crochets in a magic ring
Round 2- you increase (2 single crochets) in each stitch. Total 12 stitches.
Round 3- you repeat (single crochet, increase) six times. Total 18 stitches.
Round 4- you repeat (single crochet, single crochet, increase) six times. Total 24 stitches.
Tumblr media
Now let’s look at an example with rows
Row 1- ch 13, turn, ch1. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, 12sc. Ch 1, turn. -12
Row 2- 12sc across -12
Row 3- dec, 8sc, dec -10
Row 4- 4sc, dec, 4sc -9
Row 5- (sc, dec)x3 -6
For this you start by chaining 13. You single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each of the remaining chains. Chain 1, and turn your piece. You have 12 working stitches.
Row 2- you are going to single crochet in each stitch across. Chain 1, turn. You have 12 working stitches.
Row 3- decrease in the first two stitches, single crochet in 8 stitches, decrease in the last 2 stitches. You have 10 working stitches.
Row 4- single crochet in 4 stitches, decrease, single crochet in 4 stitches. You have 9 working stitches
Row 5- this has a repeating pattern. Single crochet in the first stitch, then decrease. You are going to repeat these two stitches a total of 3 times. You now have 6 working stitches.
Tumblr media
It may be helpful to print the pattern and rewrite each row/round with the full stitch names. You can write out each repeat and cross out as you do it.
And remember, the pictures you see online? There’s a ton of practice behind them. Don’t expect perfection from the start. Don’t be afraid to start over and try again.
You’ve got this!

Knitting project - advice please
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started making these granny squares some time ago. My goal is to make a blanket thats 90 by 180 cm big. However I have found some problems since this is my first time crocheting ever!
I wanted to ask if anyone knows how to make the sqaures the same size? As you probably can tell, the skull sqaures are a bit smaller in size. I am afraid that they will stretch the blanket in an unpleasant way.
My second question is how to even crochet them together? Since they are different they don't have the same amount of stitches on the edge which makes me worried about crocheting them together.

Hiii… does anyone have super easy crochet patterns for a beginner that they don’t mind sharing? I’ve never tried but I want to! You can send an ask or comment, but I wanna start trying out new things.

Hey all! This is my first time crocheting a top of my own design and I could use some guidance.
In theory: I made a ribbing that when stretched, sits comfortably around my chest. I put stitches all around the top of the ribbing. The plan was to do linked hdc all around (no increases or decreases) until I formed a tube that fit comfortably around my chest. As you can see, that's not what's happening.
I'm not very good at linked stitches and so I'm not sure if this widening is because I'm accidentally increasing or because of somehow the way I've designed this. Would love some advice.

My new years resolution this year is to learn how to crochet more than just a basic chain and ugly bad tension plain square dishcloth things. Because I'm tired of seeing cute crochet patterns and being sad that I can't recreate them properly in knitting.
The issue I have is that I'm having trouble finding complete beginner friendly patterns. I don't know any stitches and knitting terminology often clashes with crochet terminology (for example a YO is very very different between the two, I am learning) and those charts with all the lines and stuff just look like Norse runic symbols to me.
Do any crocheters who also understand knitting and the differences have any very beginnger pattern recs? I'm not even sure what sort of crochet stitches I was doing when I last attempted to learn probably ten years ago. I'd really love to learn how to make granny squares.
Help?

I fucked up big time, crochet style
So I’m making a lovey for my niece to give to her when she’s born. I chose a lovely soft brown yarn from my stash for this, and did not think I would need more than one skein (mistake 1), so I didn’t even think to check where I could buy it (mistake 2). I’m more than halfway through and about to run out. So I look it up, and lo and behold:
Turns out I’m using a discontinued Bernat line, and cannot find any being resold on Etsy or eBay.
So I guess my question is:
Does anyone know of a good match for Bernat Satin yarn? Specifically in the color sable?
Thanks, I will owe you my life

Are you just learning to crochet? Get a kit for Christmas? Want to learn to stitch without accidentally summoning demons? Send me your questions and I’ll do my best to help or find resources that do.
One thing a lot of beginners do ( I know I did!) is getting a bit turned around when working in the round. Here’s a quick photo guide to figuring out which side you’re looking at.

i would like to ask for some feedback on my crochet squares for a blanket i’m making. these are based on 2 characters from my friends writing and i thought it would be fitting for pride month. i want to ask what the best strategy is when crocheting pixel art like this to get clean edges. my backup plan is to crochet blanks and cross stitch the patterns on top. a mix of these 2 options is to crochet the white and purple, then cross stitch the black lines on top (for the centre pattern, not the border). the purple isn’t 2 different colours, it’s a yarn that i have that fades from bright pink to pastel pink to pastel purple to a dark purple.
does anyone have any ideas to help?

Any advice how to make it more tight?
Tumblr media
Currently crocheting a pouch that only contains DC. And it starts with a chain in the middle. And no matter how tight i make my stitches the holes remain… any idea how to get rid of them?

Hey crocheting tumblr, I picked up the basic-bitch “I taught myself to crochet” kit last night. My friend taught me some basics two weeks ago but I’ve basically forgotten it all because I can’t visualize shit (hell yeah aphantasia, or damn close to it at least), but I have a book now, so it’s cool. My fiber art of choice is cross-stitch, but I figure it might be worth expanding my gayness into other forms of handicrafts and seeing if they’re fun. Might end up making some little vidja-game dolls or something if this works out.
what do you wish you’d known when you started crocheting?

In terms of visuals my tea cozy looks cute thus far. I haven't done any top ribbing yet but its already too wide for my usual teapot. Based off of this picture:
