Let's talk about moon water - indepth

Most of us are introduced to moon water early on in our witchy practice. I have found that there is a lot of different ways to use it and so I wanted to cover my personal usage. I adore moon water because it is simple and does not require a lot of tools which allows it to be however simple or complex as you like.

What is moon water?

Moon water is exactly what it sounds like. A water that has been prepared with the help of the moon. There are a lot of different ways to make it but generally speaking it is a jar filled with water that is put out in the moonlight to catch the properties of the moon. Depending on the moon phase the water will have different properties.

How I make moon water

Typically I will take an old jar (honey or jam jar) and clean it thoroughly to get any old junk out of it before spiritually cleaning it either with incense or a meditation.

I then fill it with some sorce of water, depending on the usage of the water later on. Tap water could work but also rain water or snow if you won't be ingesting it.

After that you simply leave the jar by a window, on the balcony or outside over night. Some people may want to put crystals and sigils on and around the jar. The jar will get the chance to draw energy from the moon and into the water and carry the moons energy for a longer time.

Bring the jar back inside before the sunrise and keep it some place dark to avoid sunlight reaching it.

Moon phases

🌑 New moon This phase of the moon marks the beginning of a new moon cycle. Typically you can not see the moon at all and therefore it is sometimes called "dark moon". This water can be used for growth spells and beginnings as well as banishings because of the dark sky.

🌓 Waxing moon This is the phase between the new moon and the full moon when it slowly appears more and more on the sky. Generally this phase is also used for growth spells such as self-love and money workings. Depending on growth of the moon the focuses can vary depending on personal gnosis.

🌕 Full moon When the moon is full it is seen as a white circle on the sky. This is when the moon is the most seeable. This phase is used for strong and powerful workings. It can be used to bring positive energy and to reach goals quickly.

🌗 Wanning moon The final phase is the wanning phase when the moon starts dropping in size again, working it's way to the new moon again. This is a time to do decreasing spells. It can be to decrease stress or certain abilities, even relationships to people.

Moon water is usally made during the full moon or new moon since these are the shortest phases even though moon water can be made during any of the phases. Important to note is also that the waxing and wanning phase can be split into many more phases but I decided to keep it simple.

Common water types

💧 Tap Water / store bought water That's right. Tap water (or store bought water if the tap water in your area is not safe for ingestion) works perfectly fine and may also be prefered sometimes. It is simple and accessible, free from interpretation and also ingestible and therefore this water can be used in many different workings.

🌧️ Rain water Rain water is also a nice source since it is also rather accessible in most climates. With rain water the moon water gets a few extra dimensions. For example, one can use the wind element in the moon water since the rain is transported that way. Furthermore you can use the direction of the wind as a property as well, since some mean that the elements has directions. Even storm water can be used, usually in curses or spells that require a lot of energy. (do not ingest)

❄️ Snow water Snow water may not be as easy to find all the time, and in some climates the winters are not cold enough for snow however if snow is found it can also be used. Typically this can be used in freezer spells, curses or banishings but also for things that may need some time (think of snow melting) but also spells for beginnings or rest since winter is a time for both. (do not ingest) If snow is not at access then using tap water and freezing it into ice cubes could be used as a substitute.

🏞️ River water River water is always in movement and can therefore be used as a symbol for change or development. Depending on the flow of the stream it can have different properties. For example a wild stream may be more chaotic and similar to storm water meanwhile a gentle stream can symbolize growth and personal development.

The zodiacs

The placement of the moon can also be important and add more dimension to the water. Generally speaking, the moon goes through different transits in the sky where each transit is one of the zodiac signs. One can see the transits on a website like this and search up the date and time to find the transit for that period of time. Here is a simplified version of each transit of the moon.

♈ Aries - on edge, short tempered, new ideas

♉ Taurus - calm, build / seek security, status progression

♊ Gemini - confidence, vigor & vitality, taking risks

♋ Cancer - empathic, kindness, caregiving

♌ Leo - dramatic, fluid in creativity, starting creative projects

♍ Virgo - feeling tied-down, critical thinking, healing connections

♎ Libra - harmonic, forgive and forget, returning to balance

♏ Scorpio - unwise, willing to take risks, unwise decisions

♐ Sagittarius - confident, smooth sailing, focus on career

♑ Capricorn - romantic, earthly, careful love, dating, declaring love

♒ Aquarius - issued, logical thinking, innovation & activism

♓ Pisces - loose energy, friendly and outward, willing to share feelings

As you can see, all of the zodiacs have different meanings and when charging the water it catches properties from the current transit. You can also probbaly tell that the meanings are similar to your birth sign/s. Important to note is that the water is charged and not you so therefore a transit such as scorpio with properties like taking unwise decisions can be used against a person in a curse to make them take unwise decisions with the help of moon water.

How to use moon water

Now for the final and most fun part. I love moon water because of it's many uses and here you can also make the spells more complex. Just like already mentioned topics you can add more details such as taking other planets transits into concideration as well as divide the moon phases into smaller fractions and find other sources of water. With the previous topics in mind the water can be used as a replacement when the conditions aren't right for the spell that you want to preform. However when it comes to the actual usage of the water you can also be creative, here are some tips.

Baths - using the water as a base in a ritual bath. It does not have to be a lot but adding it as an enhancer can be powerful.

Dress candles - by dressing the candle in water instead of oil you minimize the risk of burning and can use the phase for complexity.

Food and baking - only use ingestible water forms for this. Use in kitchen witchery.

Planting - water your plants with your moon water to empower it further. Maybe you have a plant for a money working, to water it with waxing moon water may be a good idea.

Knot magick - dress your knitting and crochet needles in moon water when starting a new project to empower the spell. You could even dress the yarn or fabric itself.

Concecrate - similarly to how church may use holy water. Use moon water to bless your items.

Sprays - add moon water to a spray to empower it.

Floor wash - use moon water in floor wash to make it into a mundane and magickal cleanser.

Tea - again only use ingestibles. Using a moon water that goes along the properties of the herbs can give it quite a kick.

Ink - I think I got this idea from somewhere else but using moon water alongside matching herbs for ink is a great idea. This way you can write more powerful petitions and sigils.

Offerings - this is a way to make a simple offering a little less simple. Since a glass of tap water can be a great offering, this allows for more depth.

Beginner/ Intermediate /Advanced witch...What does it even mean ?

So, I have reached the point in my witchcraft practice where I am craving for something more. I recently finished a 5 months mentorship, which taught me a lot, and now I have really been meaning to create a magic routine for myself in order to go deeper and grow my skills. I then started looking for "intermediate" witchcraft resources, where i was surprised to find...

Nearly nothing. There is almost no resources on witchcraft that are not beginner-oriented. So, that kind leaves the question, what does it mean to not be a beginner anymore ? And how do you keep growing from there ?

Where even is the line ?

My first thought was " when did it even stop to be a beginner in the first place ?!". Which, true, valid question. I started witchcraft in 2021, but since then, I have dabbed more than once into practices that are considered more "advanced" by certain people. Let's see:

dream work : I have been doing dream interpretation since I was 12, and lucid dreaming since I was 8...

Astral projecting: had my first accidental experience at age 11, and definitely did it again on accident many time since then

hexes : I have done a few of them in the last couple years, and don't necessarily feel called to do more soon...

developing clairs: one of the first skills I developed at the beginning of my journey

shadow work: same thing

I saw an advice on trying to do a bigger spell, where i could use all of my knowledge into one ritual, and even though it is in fact a good idea, isn't that only applicable to myself ? What would it look like in a ceremonial witch ? Or a spoonie witch with more struggles than me ?

Even though i did take the advice, i'm still left to wonder...

How do I go from there ?

And that is the point I am at today.

I have a bit of a budget in order to get new tools, so i'm thinking a lot about it. Books, tools, decks... What do i do ? What do I start ?

I write new things in my grimoire, try new spells or new ways of doing old spells, connected with new things, wrote down many new potential routines... Tomorrow, my practice may look completely different from today ! I do not fear trying, failing, researching again and trying again. I know myself, and my practice of tomorrow will be a blessing to who I am tomorrow, I remain loved, loving and authentic.

Took a walk (6000 steps YEAH !) and went to an old public library !

Read a lot ! Quite happy abt that. Just be focus and no social medias/YT to distract me !

Watch a movie with my brother : Assassin's Creed. It was bad to be honest. Nevertheless, I was hyper-focus despite the poor quality of it with my phone far away from me : ni scrolling. Quite please with it !

We went to a potery-café : it was a good moment I hope my piece will turn out cool and beautiful 💕

Just Going Along With It

Just sitting here, gonna bullshit I guess. I'm listening to The Stones, having a bluesy time. They've been with me since I was born, basically. I know everything related to The Stones. LOL. I'm a library of Mick Jagger. My mom loved him. I'm Keith's girl. :) They're octogenarians now, which is weird, but I love them in spirit. They're young at heart and Mick is still having kids. Haha. Longevity reigns. And who am I to judge? Mick Taylor died, which is sad. Such a talent.

I finished the Santa Muerte tarot reading I had this morning. It wasn't too bad, actually significant for the client. I have a Santa Muerte channeling to do as well, a rather complicated one. Hopefully it works out well. Looks like the trabajos are starting to come in for the new year. Blessings to both Santa Muerte and Mama Chola. I am also thankful of a client who brings me continued blessings. You know who you are. :)

I'm going to have to make my major purchase of candles this month. I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to use tealights. I can get 400 of them. May last longer than my usual 288 (1 gross). I cannot stand all of the boxes that I get. These ones burn a good 7 hours. Sometimes more. I think I have plenty of holders, but I'll only use one to two per day, per altar. It isn't cheap but the altars need flames. I can use LED's as well. And I may just remember to get batteries today. Hopefully, I fucking wrote it on my hand. Ha! I have some really cool black LED's where the flame moves. It even reflects on the wall, which I haven't seen most LED's do before. My super cool LED St. Michael candle needs to be lit too, for my deceased family members.

Dunno, man. I stopped one of my medications and feel much better. Tons of side effects went away but my sleep is suffering. I mentioned it. Makes it really rough to want to take again. It is so ancient and just not a medication you want to take when you realize it causes so much negative crap. My stomach is better and my mouth ain't parched. I lost weight too. It is fooked up man.

Stranger and stranger still, I'm a conundrum wrapped up into a mystery. LOL. I'll just jam to The Stones.

I also wanted to take note of something I discovered yesterday.

As I said in a previous post I just made, I'd taken a full day's break yesterday, and during then, I'd let myself exist in pure relaxation. It helped me go back to a point where I could be fully relaxed and I honestly hadn't known what that was in ages.

I'd also done a bit of Shadow Work with King Hades again, which helped me to be more sure of my own self and to trust myself more in my senses which is always the biggest help in my practice and doing anything.

I felt my clairsenses in a stronger way then, unblocked and more open. So during the day, my brother shows me this object and I get this strong feeling about it, I asked him a couple questions and I realized that thing where I could sense the past of the object happened again as it mat hed perfectly with what I'd sensed/seen.

I've hardly read on this, but as I understand, it's called Psychometry, the ability to read the history of an object by coming into contact with it. Though, for me, there are instances where I need no physical contact, just sensing its energy is enough.

It's definitely something I would like to practice with, but for now, I wanted to document it for my own memory and feel free to comment about your own experiences or comments/questions!

Beginner Witch Things to Research

So many older - more experienced - witches tell beginner - baby - witches to start with researching things like protection spells, grounding, cleansing and warding but what do you research afterward? These are just a few things that I would recommend every individual to research, regardless of how experienced you may think you are.

Carl Jung's Map of the Soul This is where the archetypes stem from, a what a lot of witches dread doing - Shadow Work. Shadow Work is uncovering not just traumatic ventures of our pasts but also revealing what made and makes us who we are today. Studying where it all started makes working through your own shadow a lot less stressful and a lot hammering on the soul, it also leads to a lot less martyrdom in the spiritual community.

Honing in on your psychic abilities and Intuition Gaining the ability is easy, everyone has these abilities, you just have to work to get them to where you want them to be. Remember a spiritual practice is still a practice, you have to put in the effort to get better, just as you would a physical sport or an instrument.

Egregores and Amalgamations vs. Deitys vs. Pop Culture Deitys Egregores and amalgamations exist solely in the astral plane and can (and will) mimic, imitate, and parody deities. Being able to decern these, especially with your intuition will always provide useful. Learning that Lucifer from Dantes' Inferno is reaching out to you versus aspected, epithetic source Lucifer will give you a much better relationship and outcome in your practice.

Deity Work vs. Deity Worship Offering play a key role when learning to decern these from each other. You can in fact, do both, but be warned deities get jealous of each other.

Find what you love and surround yourself with it Incorporating things that you love into your practice and not actually doing what you love about your practice is one of the key differences I saw in my practice when I learned how to differentiate them. I found incoporating pop culture media into my practice made me get burnout from both that piece of pop culture and my spiritual practices.

Finding a form of divination that you are most comfortable with Everyone likes using cartomancy, divination using cards or pieces of paper, is the most common form of divination, but learning your favorite form of divination will help avoid burnout and creating tension for yourself in your practice.

Posting about my craft

To be more specific I am talking about witchcraft. I made a poll some days ago and the results this far don't seem super happy about witchy topics buuut let me explain-

My craft in general

I am a solo practitioner who lives in Sweden. The things that I am mostly drawn towards are nature-related practices, candle spells and knot magick but also some death work and I would love to widen my spirit communication later on.

I grew up as an atheist and with a fear of death and churches, yep it is true! I could not step my foot into a church without crying and now I adore them. I first found witchcraft back in 2019 after being interested in the paranormal long before that. I did not get straight into the practice but instead I started watching witchy creators on social media to learn.

I never went down any religious path as a witch practitioner either (such as wiccan, or religion-based witchcraft etc) for a while I wanted to join a coven but it felt too ceremonial for me and so I ended up practicing alone and mostly in secret. I've also tried doing some deity work from time to time.

Still I would not call myself well-versed in any field relating to witchcraft since I have jumped in and out of practice during the past 5 years and I don't even think I have done over 10 spells.

Why I want to post about it

I have found myself slacking in my craft for some time. I think that it is a typical me-move and that my motivation in different fields comes in waves.

However I have found that this limits me a bit since it is hard for me to have daily habits such as meditation, simple cleansing and nature walks every once in a while which would really benefit my practice.

I thought that to solve this issue, one way could be to post about my craft consistently to "force" myself into practice. Not literally- I will not practice when I don't feel like it but more like telling a friend that you will go to the gym later to make it feel more achivable.

Alongside that I also want to connect with people and learn about their practices. As I mentioned, I am not looking to join a coven or anything but I still find learning from others to be the quickest way. I hope you're in it with me and that we can connect.
