📃Despite persistent pleas for aid amid acute starvation and escalating threats outside the UNHCR office in Athens, my health and safety remain critically endangered. The UNHCR’s referral to the Holy Church of All Saints and the Reception and Solidarity Centre of Athens (KYADA) has proven inadequate. My immobility necessitates immediate direct deliveries or recurring donations to address this dire captivity crisis and ensure my survival. ☝️

The numbers are in.
Photo: Children outside the mobile hospital you supported in Syria after the earthquake.
1.
132,613
is the number of people you helped in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. 46,403 is the number of people you provided food to. 9,994 is the number of people you brought medical assistance to. Numbers alone don’t tell the full story of each individual helped. But they do give us reason to celebrate the collective impact of our community. Thank you for responding rapidly to this crisis with love in action.
2.
Last week
we shared Saw De Htoo’s story. Now meet some of the hero health workers running these clinics. Earlier this year our team ran refresher trainings for 55 health staff as, well as delivering medicine to the clinics they run. So when more kids like Saw De Htoo are sick, they’ll be ready and waiting to help.

3.
Double
the reasons to support our ongoing response to families affected by Cyclone Mocha. A generous friend of Partners is matching all donations to our emergency relief fund! As a member of our monthly giving community, you already help fuel our relief efforts getting critical food, medicine and shelter to communities in crisis. But if you'd like to reach even more families left extremely vulnerable after losing their homes, livelihoods and loved ones, your additional gift will be matched for twice the impact.
4.
Water
is life in any community. But when we asked this community in conflict-affected Kachin State, Myanmar what their most immediate problem was, access to clean water was absolutely number one. Watch what they did to solve this.

5.
One graph
speaks volumes. This is the cumulative number of airstrikes recorded since the Myanmar Military coup in February 2021.
This trajectory is why our work is more important than ever.

6.
Summer
is here (for our northern hemisphere friends) so enjoy this delicious icy Thai treat, Itim Kati, brought to you by The Longest Table.
Ingredients
350ml coconut milk (freshly squeezed if available) 1 teaspoon vanilla ice cream powder 1 tablespoon whipping cream 7 tablespoons sugar Salt Peanuts to garnish
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until homogeneous. Taste to get the desired sweetness. Reduce and add sugar as needed. Pour into container, close lid and put it in the freezer for 4 hours. After freezing, bring it out to blend until smooth. Then put it back in the freezer for another 6 hours.
We love sharing numbers that paint a picture of your impact. But even more so, imagining the smile on the face of each child your love has reached. Thank you for going above and beyond, month after month, for them to live a free, full life.
Your friends at Partners.

Important addition! Vapes require lithium batteries made out of cobalt! Buying/popularizing vapes impacts and contributes to the inhumane cobalt mining operations in congo. They are going through a genocide. Here's a few donation links i found if you want to or can donate!

Vapes are so fucking uncool and lame and still genuinely harmful no matter how they market it. Atleast with cigars, as bad for your health as they are, you can homoerotically lean in close the face of another man as your cigar lights up his and you both stare at the end of your cigarette lighting the other's and your eyes flick up for a moment to look at his eyes and he notices and looks back at you and then you lean away and take a long drag as if to pretend the smoke in your lungs is enough to sate the burning in your soul
Vapes cant give you shit

Half a million reached.
Photo: students drink from a well installed outside their school in Bangladesh.
Friend,
“You give. We deliver.”
It’s a phrase you’ve no doubt heard us repeat time and time again. Because it’s completely true. Without your response, there is little we can do. An engine without fuel cannot cannot take you anywhere.
So it brings us so much joy to be able to share with you our 2022 impact report: the tangible hope you have brought into the lives of children and families who’ve found themselves caught in the middle of conflicts that are no fault of their own.
Across 8 countries, through 32 projects, over half a million people were helped. This newsletter is dedicated to you and the mark you’ve left on their world. Because there would be no impact to report if it weren’t for your decision to put love into action.
“I know that the Karen General Education Development program can help me fight for my dream, and since I was selected, I am now more confident that I can achieve my goals.”
In Thailand, Saw Eh Doh Soe received training that allowed him to pass his GED exam and continue his education journey.
“In this hospital, they have good doctors who are specialists in treating burns. The hospital provided me with good treatment until I recovered.”
In Syria, Kareem Ismail Abadi’s burns from a kerosene heater explosion were skillfully treated at the clinic you support in Al-Hol camp.
“When I was young I couldn’t go to school because we are poor. I started to go to school at age 10 when the free school opened.”
In Bangladesh, Zyihadu Isalm is still getting an education despite his family’s financial situation because of the school you’re supporting.
“Thanks to you we have aid, all around Kharkiv we have been trying to look for medicine and food.”
In Ukraine, Svtlana and her husband received food after their apartment had been bombed but there was nowhere else safe to flee to.
"This new section of the school that Partners built helped us a lot, otherwise, we would have had to study in a different school. I thank Partners for building this."
In the Kurdish region of Iraq, kids like Merna who suffered under ISIS occupation no longer have to study in overcrowded classrooms.
These stories are a tiny snapshot of the impact of the love of this community in 2022. We encourage you to read through the whole report.
Read The Full Report
Every story, statistic, support provided; all of it is the result of the generosity and dedication of you, our global community of supporters who fuel this work. It’s the perfect example of the Margaret Mead quote: “Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.”
So thank you. 507,747 times over.
Your friends at Partners.

Hang On, Help Is On Its Way- The Drawbacks of Crowd-sourcing- by Liam Calvert #5
Recent events in Nepal have aptly demonstrated the growing role social media platforms like Twitter, Skype, and Facebook are playing when a disaster strikes. Survivors use these sites to keep in touch with the outside world after the event has transpired, media outlets draw upon them to access the most recent information, and sympathetic onlookers utilise their affordances to help those left in need as a result of the disaster (Gao et al 2011). Indeed, the awesome influence social media exerts cannot be denied. Nevertheless, despite this power, social networking sites frequently hamper the sharing of vital information, the distribution of resources, and the effective coordination of disaster relief plans among disparate organisations (Gao et al 2011).
Although crowdsourcing platforms can offer precise and timely information about a crisis, the majority of current applications still fall short in supporting disaster relief efforts (Gao et al 2011). More importantly, these kinds of sites often prevent relief organisations from collaborating effectively with each other (Gao et al 2011). For instance, micro blogs and crisis maps (like the one pictured above), can potentially hinder a unified response, resulting in multiple organisations responding to a request for help at the same time (Gao et al 2011).
Another notable shortcoming of crowdsourcing relates to the fact that the data collected from social media sites, while sometimes useful, does not always provide all the right information necessary for a successful disaster relief effort (Gao et al 2011). Indeed, the questionable accuracy of geo-tagging and the content that accompanies them are far from guaranteed (Gao et al 2011). A geo-located tweet for example, does not necessarily indicate the true geo-location point (Gao et al 2011). Additionally, deceptive reports from malicious tricksters might appear as genuine requests for help on a crisis map (Gao et al 2011).
Lastly, many current crowdsourcing platforms do not have adequate security features for relief organisations (Gao et al 2011). For example, crowdsourcing applications that are publicly accessible for reporting are also publicly available for viewing (Gao et al 2011). This can subsequently create clashes when vital decisions must be made about where and when relief resources are needed (Gao et al 2011). Indeed, in some rare cases, spiteful groups have even targeted relief workers themselves, so publicising details about relief efforts could endanger their well-being (Gao et al 2011).
A simple way of overcoming the drawbacks mentioned above is information verification. As highlighted by Heather Ford (2012), verification enables voices from the disaster site to be heard clearly and accurately – voices that are often muffled by the mediating influence of traditional media (Ford 2012). To that point, Ford emphasises that successful verification hinges on relief organisations contacting people near reported incidents, speaking to journalists, and investigating the identities of those who have sent in reports (Ford 2012).
In any event, crowdsourcing paired with applications like crisis maps for example remain powerful tools in the arsenal of humanitarian agencies and relief organisations alike. However as highlighted throughout this post, a greater number of lives will no doubt be saved as governments and NGO’s find better ways to apply the integration of social media, crowdsourcing, and other collaborative tools to existing disaster relief systems (Gao et al 2011).
