A lot of y’all don’t realize that if you have the philosophy of “if it’s cringe but harmless then it’s fine and people shouldn’t get bullied for it” that has to apply to the things you personally think are cringe too.

It's all "be gay do crimes" "cringe culture is dead uwu" until y'all lay your eyes upon someone genuinely weird/transgressive like nonhuman-identifying people, or kinky people, or even neurodivergent people who can't mask to your satisfaction and suddenly y'all are chomping at the bit to become attack dogs for an oppressive social order/"normalcy"

I recently said on a tiktok post that I think it's weird that people who claim "Cringe culture is dead!" Are anti proshipping and got a lot of "oh but we hate proshipping cause its harmful not cause its cringe" but honestly I think it being cringe is a big part of the hate shippers get.
Sure you can claim its all due to your moral superiority but the idea is almost always down to "I think this is weird and therefore bad" and if that's not falling into cringe culture I don't know what does. I mean you have people claiming completely normal, vanilla ships are problematic cause its weird to ship those two actually, or its not canon so its weird, etc.
Its almost entirely down to the ships being weird or "icky" to someone and their immediate response being that no one should ship it rather than maybe it's just not their cup of tea.

Cringe culture ruined being a kid.
I keep seeing the idea that teen members of Gen Z are the last generation to experience an actual childhood and honestly? I agree.
We as a society have made being a child so hostile, so miserable, that kids aren't interested in being young anymore.
How children are constantly told to grow up, how the color has been sucked out of the world, how because of cringe culture children will be fucking torn apart by grown adults all over the internet, how children are experiencing crisis after crisis. Children are shamed for their interests and hobbies and style by grown ass adults and teens who are far too old to be doing this. How kids aren't allowed to be anywhere without being made fun of by adults who are miserable.
Being a child is fucking hostile now, and I don't blame this generation of kids for trying too hard to be mature/grown. Because people treat children like shit, so who would want to be one?

i don't mind if people don't like AJR's music, that's fine, we all have different taste, but the people who are obsessed with making fun of them because they're "cringe" really rub me the wrong way. like, i'm sorry you feel uncomfortable leaning into vulnerability and sincerity; couldn't be me.

I'm not a furry, but if someone hates or makes fun of furries that's a red flag.

"cringe culture" is being very directed at trans youth in a time when being an openly trans young person is also genuinely dangerous in a number of places. every time you open your mouth to say something like "queer people are fine, but neopronouns…", know that you’re being transphobic. or "i’m gay but i’m not like, weird" or "i’m trans but these teenagers are giving us a bad rep lol"… just remember that bigots don’t care how "normal" you are, they don’t care whether or not you dye your hair or if you have a pronoun pin or any of that shit. they hate all of us. they want you to make it normalised to hate on trans people. they want you to see trans ppl as different to you. they want you to think that trans kids are not smart or old enough to see what’s best for them. conservatives don’t need you to be an outright bigot too, they just need you to not do anything about them having their health care taken away. they need you to be too embarrassed to tell off your friend when they say those trans people are freaky. they need you to be comfortable with bullying - because that’s what it is, harassment and bullying - some random transgender teenager on tiktok. they need you to double that energy against neurodivergent trans people, disabled trans people, and trans POC (particularly those whose gender is related to their culture). all of this helps in establishing the concept that transness is a choice, is a phase, is a mental illness, is weird, is predatory, is pathetic, is backwards, is childish, is ridiculous, is "other" - so that dehumanisation is acceptable. don’t fall into this trap. you don’t need to think that every trans person is cool and fun and your best friend. you just need to remember to stick up for your community. unite with your trans siblings. protect trans kids. the well-being of trans people is more important than being seen as cool.

you don’t actually think cringe culture is dead if you only defend things like flipnote and scenecore and my little pony and immediately jump to shaming people for liking hazbin hotel or minecraft youtubers or trolls or whatever.
if you’re like this, you never actually wanted to kill cringe culture, you just think enough time has passed for stuff like sparkledogs to be fun and nostalgic. the people who shamed you for liking these things grew up and moved on and you’ve had years to overcome your shame over liking them.
when you jump on hating whatever the new popular thing is, you are doing exactly what people did to childhood you that made you want to hide what made you happy. i don’t care what “justification” you come up with to explain why your bullying is actually “just and righteous” this time “because the person who made this media posted this bad thing seven years ago” like i don’t care. you’re still bullying people for liking a harmless little cartoon. fuck off.

Keanu Reeves teamed up with China Mieville, one of the greatest living authors of the New Weird movement, to write a novel about his edgy self-insert OC who’s an 80,000 year old immortal warrior who was born because his mom fucked lightning. Cringe culture is dead and John Wick himself killed it. Write your goddamn stories and don’t let anyone tell you they’re cringe.

I hate how normal bullying is. I saw a youtube video titled ‘memes’ with over 300k likes that involved a minor in a therian mask being happy over how fox’s dad had used fox’s pronouns (fox/foxself) and the video was mocking the, let me remind you MINOR.
cant believe how its completely acceptable to laugh at a child, I bet over half of those likes were from adults.

I HATE tiktok and the Internet in general rn for the obsession with "oh this person's smellyyy" "Brother it STINKS over here" "BOO 💧🧼🧽🚿" and stuff like that. I wish I could put into words how demeaning and patronising that whole idea is and people implying anyone they don't like doesn't wash.
For one there's something grating about being insulted in a manner like we're in nursery again. But also WHY is that the go to insult. Why do you associate these things? Especially to those you deem "chronically online". Like I don't want to sound pathetic but it feels so nasty to me.
is it extreme to say this feels tied to ableism? And classism too?
