Why do so many people literally just condone abuse/say “we cant know” or dont believe the victims because the abusers “look normal enough”?

I have literally told TWO of my friends parents (Admittedly, I’ve told people, but these are people I trust. Or atleast trust-ed) about the abuse and theyre just like “youre not being abused, we love you and care for you and hope you will be ok tho ☺️❤️” or theyre like “Your mom wouldnt do that” “theres nothing we can do” “theres more sides to the story”

I swear. You havent seen my mom when shes angry. You havent been told by her that youre lying about your rape (twice!) you havent been on your death bed and she was of no support. You havent been LOCKED in a mental hospital

if you want to actually materially address child abuse, the single most important thing you can do to start is give children the legally enforceable right to leave any situation they no longer want to be in.

church, extracurriculars, summer camps, school classes, their biological family's houses. notably, these are the places that child abuse is enabled by the child's inability to just fucking leave if they need to. they can't walk out of church if their youth pastor touches them inappropriately; they'll get punished for leaving. if they walk out of their house because their dad hits them, the cops pick them up and give them right back to their dad.

children need the legal autonomy to leave abusive situations in order to even begin to usefully materially address child abuse.

hey guys as a kid I’d like to point out that looking at porn and similar things CAN be harmful but that’s why we need to be open about it and actually have discussions about it so people (kis—because kids are people) feel safe talking about it, so that they dont get fucked up

may be a hot take but i think the fact minors can access 18+ content by just clicking a button that says 'yes im totally over 18 trust me' is like. totally fine tbh. its a non-issue. i dont care if curious teenagers are looking at porn. they've been doing that for as long as porn has existed. id rather teens explore their sexuality through images on the internet than rush into real life experiences when they're not ready for it yknow. the UK is trying to put stricter age verification in place (which in turn is becoming an online privacy nightmare) and like. for what. who is it helping. why is this a problem.

I feel like logically enslaving children doesnt even really make sense, sure…you can keep on multiplying and adding children to the mix, but we’re all children at one point…atleast when abusing/discriminating against a group you’re not apart of you can rest assured that will never happen to you, this just seems really weird to me tho…I guess the system only continues because by the time they get out they have no reason to fight against it and its “their turn” to benefit from it, and since mental help (for some reason) is still shit, they just repeat the cycle of abuse

Arguing with parents about the institution of family is the most annoying thing ever. Every time without fail they spend like 30 minutes dancing around your points and throwing trite liberal mantras at you until they eventually crack and say "Yes, I think that children are members of a subhuman slave class of society who deserve to have all aspects of their life controlled by me and my wonderful husband Joshua. This is fine because that is what Jesus wan- I mean it's uh... it's just the way things are" and then everyone in the room pretends like they didn't just say something that they should be publicly stoned to death for.
