“I don’t think it’s a duty for a president to be involved, that is a personal matter for the Marcos family,” Marcos said during the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines forum held in Manila Hotel when asked if he’s going to issue an apology on behalf of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
At least 70,000 were wrongly imprisoned and 3,200 people were killed during Martial Law, according to Amnesty International.
The World Bank also said that Marcos Sr. stole between $5 billion and $10 billion from the country’s coffers.
This is said to include the $40-million Arelma assets of Marcos Sr.
The Arelma funds represented assets of the former strongman originally worth $2-million deposited with Merrill Lynch Securities in New York in 1972 under the Arelma S.A., a Panamanian corporation. The fund has increased from $2 million to about $40-million.
Marcos, saying he has no time in dealing with such cases, said he is now leaving it to the lawyers.

There are so many unanswered questions that will linger in my mind forever...
Like Marco's foreshadowed corruption arc involving Toffee and Monster Arm but they dropped it for some reason.
That room in Saint Olga's is never brought up again even though they lingered on it like it was foreshadowing the climax of the series. In this room there are statues of heads that look like Toffee... and the Moon, Sun and Star Symbolism on the floor represents Star and Marco being bound by the blood moon. That specific moon imagery is always used for the blood moon - even when we see the actual blood moon it's always shown as a crescent moon. The Sun symbol represents Marco, since in the early stages of the shows production his original name was "Sol", which is the spanish word for Sun.
This bond between Marco and Star is framed like a prophecy - their bond was going to play a roll in some kind of battle but this room is like... never brought up again lol. I guess they changed their mind as time went on and wanted to use the blood moon "curse" as a way to show that Star's and Marco's feelings for each other were always genuine and they were never influenced by the blood moon "curse" to begin with.
Also the implication that the blood moon "curse" was never a curse to begin with since:
1. It never negatively affects Star and Marco like an actual curse would. It was never a problem for them and they were using the blood moons bond as a scapegoat for their own actions. That's why Star tears up and asks Marco "what if it was never the blood moon?" right before their bond is severed permanently and their first memory of falling in love was taken from them forever [the memory was the dance at the blood moon ball.]. That's why their feelings for each other never completely disappear after this episode.
2. The blood moon only shows itself to Marco when Star is in danger and doesn't actually interrupt his date with Jackie.
3. So... people are taking the word "curse" at face value without taking into account who's saying it. From a demon's perspective they are going to view a celestial body choosing two souls to bind together for all eternity as a curse. We haven't really got alot of lore in the show about demon society, but from the pieces we have we can assume that it's largely negative. They pretty much follow what you see from other shows involving demons except that they place value on romantic love. That's why they have the blood moon ball tradition to begin with. But even then, they are going to be mostly negative about it and refer to the bond as a curse... also the blood moon ball is implied to be alot more violent than it is in the episode.
But yeah like... demons are going to view something like the blood moon bond as a curse because they perceive the world around them through a more negative lense than other races in the show do. Also the room in St. Olga's implies that the blood moon bond is much more important than whatever connotations demons place upon it. The blood moon chooses who to bond together based on some unknown metrics and it isn't limited to demons. And since the room in St. Olga's appears outside of the demon's dimension the blood moon bond is an extremely important celestial event - again it goes beyond whatever connotations demons have about it. Even though the blood moon event takes place on Earth it is something so important other dimensions take note of it. So to call the blood moon bond a "curse" because demons call it that seems pretty weird to me.
#[ends this abruptly because idk how to finish it]#haunting... truly haunting...#Marco having a corruption arc after all the romantic text from The Blood Moon Ball episode... i would have died seeing it#i would pay money to see that... especially knowing Marco was supposed to be some kind of enemy to Star in early production#GIVE ME.

The Song of Colonization and Dictatorship's Motif - An Analysis in Filipino Context
Throughout history, recent or long ago, the global south has always been the victim of the European objective of God, Gold and Glory. The things that colonialism has left in the countries it ruled over had made a significant, traumatic impact, shaping the countries today as politically corrupt, economically poverty stricken and sociologically damaged. Sure, countries will always take a different approach depending on which one we really talk about, but chances are that the result remains the same. History as we know it changes and shapes the sociology of our culture, and within the Filipino context we have developed certain responses to naturalized actions based on what has been taught to us for the past 300+ years. As a result, however, we also brazenly admit that the effects have never left us, and in the ignorance of the educational system we have not been able to percieve just how badly this damaged costed us in the long run. When we don't learn from the things that harm us, we become part of its legacy and perpetuate this cycle of destruction, which brings us to the future of politics and leadership as we know it. What does this have all to do with how we bring up our leadership? The answer is simple: how we view "leadership" is a reflection of how we view the effects it has to our people. And within cultural, societal, political context of our country, it exposes our relationship between colonial trauma and local corruption.
Despite the richness of culture in the Philippines, how we as a society approach our people is based on how colonizers have viewed us. Physically, it was our brown to black skin, our flat noses, and in some regions perhaps it was the curly to kinky hair that the Aeta were prominent for. Societally, it was of our percieved "queerness" that the Spaniards have brought upon us due to the normalization of transgender women and homosexual relationships in our pre-colonial era. Sociologically, it was the matter of "discipline" and "responsibility" that taught us how to rule similarly to how they did once they decided to leave the country when they drained us of our identity, during the tail end of the 1890s. Eventually we were left to be eaten by the American colonists who "helped" us economically, and within the era of World War 2 we were ripped to pieces by Imperialist Japan, barely recovering from that era once the Marcos regime had started in the 70s. These periods of time have quite a lot of things in common: the rule of dictatorship, the exploitation of the country's economy, and the constant, recurring killings of our people. It consolidated this idea that we as the Filipino people were not "ready" for our country to be independent, or that we were not "disciplined" enough by a good leader that would show us the way. This is why the country continues to struggle to this day, rarely any fairness has held up these recent years and it shows how vulnerable the people are to corruption when given the opportunity to make money off of exploitations and other such things-- not limited to our political leaders but within the people who live in our society. The political trolling epidemic acts as one such example; mitigating the support of corrupt leaders in the form of online trolling in exchange for large sums of money because these people need it. It is all true and tragic that our country's economical state pushes our people to deal with morally problematic and divisive schemes; but perhaps it is also true that there is no other choice to be made when we all need to survive.
Survival, as a result, ends up as one of the traditions this country picks up. We must survive the state of our homes, our corrupt authorities, higher-ups and officials, instead of having to protest or fight against them due to fear and conformity. This is one of the things our people picked up when we were under the rule of the Spaniards for the past 300 years: for conformity, we were rewarded without threat of abuse or torture or suffering, but in biting back we were penalized with death and powerlessness. This in particular is reason as to why there had been historical records of Filipinos betraying their people; take for example the near failure of the Katipunan revolution, one of the farmers having reported the meetings towards the authorities where many Filipinos who tried to fight ended up suffering from the consequences. With the way conformity runs deep with fear or ignorance in this country, it's no wonder nobody chose to really fight with violence when our authorities had always been violent towards us. As a result, dictatorship takes advantage of these needs for survival. As I said before, unable to look through the past and learn from it will always let it happen again, even in different circumstances with different people. That's how local dictatorship poured in from the long run of colonialism brought upon us.
Towards a sociological standpoint, there's a recurrence of our people "needing" to be "disciplined" due to the problems that came after colonial rule, mostly into that of crime, corruption, but most of all in defiance to authority even if they had been right to be.
This was the reasoning behind many Marcos supporters during the election seasons, but alongside Duterte supporters who also pushed for the War on Drugs, and during this era corruption and abuses ran rampant among the police, leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths within poor communities with no justice to be brought upon them. This was not the first time local authority had been abused, when in fact the first Marcos, Ferdinand himself, established Martial Law and let his soldiers and police loose among the people, killing and torturing and kidnapping thousands who tried to oppose him or even so much as tried to live. In the end, the people all fought in a peaceful protest against his rule, but even to this day the government constantly attempts to idolize his ruling as some sort of 'revolutionary development' based on the plans he dreamed to create for the country when in reality could not be established. The dictatorship this country still suffers in also runs amok with proof that our people viciously conform to these situations out of fear or idolization, and as a result recreates what we suffered from not even a century back, but now in a circumstance where it was our people who took after these colonists and decidedly ruled just like them. It's a pattern of behavior that lies in the problems of those who chose to ignore what we try to fought for, thus taking advantage of our weaknesses in the long run because death remains a threat towards our people when we step out of line.
However, as time passes by throughout the growing modernization of our generations, the progression of time allows for the newer people to understand how we can fight against our culture of fear and conformity, and if given the chance, perhaps the undoing of our government's corruption. In the end, it's all up to those who've learned from history and learned to fight against the pain the country has been suffering from. The change starts when we finally learn to get out of line, even if it means rioting and fighting and revolutionizing against what they constantly give to us.

Journalist Iris Gonzales wrote on the January 7, 2024 Edition of her Column on the PhilStar Global Website called "Eyes Wide Open" is sounding off the Alarm based on the reportedly increasing Corruption within the various Agencies under the Administration of Bong Bong Marcos (BBM).
She cited numerous Incidents in her Column, and most if not all of them are Anecdotes, so it will be difficult to determine if these are true or not unless People start coming forward and exposing them. However, with the Government tightening its grip on Social Media, then less People will be encouraged to go forward and in fact will make the Corrupt People in Government (if there are any) continue what they are doing since nobody is exposing them.
Anyway, here are some select Quotes from the Article, there are many more so I suggest you go out and read it yourself, the Link to it will be down below:
"Some two Months ago, Embassy Workers from a Philippine Embassy abroad extorted Money from Foreign Nationals applying for a Visa to go to the Philippines, Industry Sources told me. Workers from this Philippine Embassy were asking P40,000 from each Visa Applicant. This is on Top of the Standard Visa Fee and the Applicants were told that if they don’t pay, their Visa application will not be facilitated. Some of the Victims are Chinese Nationals and some of them are here in the Philippines because they decided to just pay the P40,000, rather than not have their Visa processed. However, other Foreign Nationals, I’m told, are opting to just visit other Countries."
"As Buildings need to have a specific number of Fire Extinguishers, some of these local Fire Departments insist that you acquire the necessary Extinguishers from their Suppliers. And guess what? The Prices are many times more expensive than those available in the Market. Another Scheme is a delay in inspection. Inspectors will take their time before they visit your Site. They will then give you the runaround and find an endless number of Issues unless you give them what they want.”

ABS-CBN: Sandiganbayan dismisses ill-gotten wealth case vs alleged Marcos dummies
In the 18-page Resolution, the anti-graft court’s Fourth Division said the plaintiff failed to prove the allegations against Olympio Bermudez, Geronimo Velasco, and Emilio Yap.
The case was filed in 1987 by the Presidential Commission on Good Governance (PCGG) involving properties belonging to the Bataan Shipyard and Engineering Company, Inc. (BASECO) and its subsidiaries.
“The plaintiff Republic of the Philippines only presented two witnesses, Maria Lourdes Magno and Antonio Rolando Eduarte, who are mere records custodians in the PCGG and BASECO, respectively,” the Resolution read.
"Magno and Eduarte both testified that they have no personal knowledge as to the contents, preparation, execution, and issuance of the documents subject of their respective testimonies. Clearly, their testimonies are insufficient to prove the charges in the Amended Complaint,” it added.
Magno is the chief administrative officer of the PCGG’s Library and Records Division, while Eduarte is the administrative officer of BASECO.
The Court had also previously denied the admission of majority of the plaintiff’s exhibits, which supposedly did not comply with the Original Document Rule since these were only photocopies.
The other documents, though admitted, were not able to prove the charges.
The Resolution was penned by Fourth Division Chairperson Associate Justice Michael Frederick Musngi, and concurred in by Associate Justices Lorifel Pahimna and Maria Theresa Mendoza-Arcega.
