I’ve Had A Thought (abandon all hope all ye who enter hear)
I was watching Tiktok when I remembered this tiktok existed. It basically says no mater how fast an animal ran away from early humans, eventually early humans would catch it cause humans were build for endurance and not speed, and that animal will run out of energy long before we would.
Now out of all the Vestles, Nethians, Gundalians, and Bakugan themselvs from Bakugan, the people and Pokemon from Pokemon, and the Coriki and the Corupted from Tenkai Knights(a show I feel like I’m the only one on Tumblr who remembers exists as time marches on) who would say “yeah that makes sense,” when they learn humans are persistence predators, and who’d let out one soft, terrified “what the fuck?”

Careening by Hammered Hulls
Hammered Hulls - Careening
Classic era Dischord is undeniable. It captures the emergence and progression of the D.C hardcore/punk/independent music scene in a great way - if you have not seen the Salad Days doco it is a great synopsis of what was going on from the beginning to the late 80’s. That early run of releases was just classic after classic, and although the gold was a little rarer post the early 90’s (of course there was Jawbox, Lungfish and Fugazi though….), in the last couple of years they have released some really exciting records (the Coriky s/t) including this newest release from Hammered Hulls. Hardly surprising given the line up of players though I guess! It kind of fits neatly with a lot of the rev-summer sounds (especially One Last Wish) but there are a bunch of other more contemporary references as well I think.

Coriky // Hard to Explain
You found a purpose, that's good for you
You found a leader and a politic too
Say you've got the answer, well I don't agree
You get no answer when you're cornering me
Hard to explain
Feel like everybody's gone insane

Theresa’s Sound World 🎼Links in Music: Coriky
Yesterday, on my Eardrum Buzz Radio show one of the tracks I played was ‘Say Yes’ by D.C. Punk band, Coriky. This band comprise of Ian MacKaye, Joe Lally and Amy Farina and they blend many styles and creatively musical ideas. They released their debut album last year, which I reviewed here on the Sound World.
MacKaye and Lally are famous for being members of legendary Punk band, Fugazi, who took Punk to a different level, with multiple musical influences, inspirations, styles, a solid sense of musicianship and the ability to play incendiary live shows. I count myself very fortunate to have seen Fugazi play live twice. The first time I saw Fugazi live was at The Marcus Garvey centre, Nottingham, England, 1999. This was the finest live performance of any band I’ve ever seen, nobody else has ever topped it!
Ian Mackaye is also well known for being a member of 80s Hardcore Punk band, Minor Threat and I consider their song ‘Salad Days’ as one of my all time favourite Punk tunes.
Below are a series of links. The first gets you to Bandcamp and ‘Say Yes’ by Coriky as played on my radio show. The second link gets you to my review of Coriky’s debut album. The third link is an intense live performance of the tune, ‘Waiting Room’ by Fugazi from a show in 1988. The fourth link is to the studio version of ‘Salad Days’ by Minor Threat. The fifth and final link is to Eardrum Buzz Radio, where you can listen to an eclectic mix of DJs and Alternative tunes. If you missed my show, it’s repeated at 8pm GMT/ 12pm PST on January Weekdays.⭐️
