The Outbound Ghost: Reborn Edition announced for PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC - Gematsu
Tumblr media
Conradical Games has announced The Outbound Ghost: Reborn Edition, a turn-based creature collector and sequel to The Outbound Ghost. It will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam in 2025. Users who own the original The Outbound Ghost on Steam will receive The Outbound Ghost: Reborn Edition for free.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
The Outbound Ghost: Reborn is a turn-based creature collector where the monsters you use are ghostly figments of your imagination. Experience a new supernatural story with overhauled gameplay in this sequel to The Outbound Ghost.
A New Adventure
The Outbound Ghost: Reborn Edition is a new entry in the universe of The Outbound Ghost that follows an alternate timeline. Collect Figments of your imagination to do combat against other spirit wielders in an improved combat system where strategizing is everything.
A New Story
Experience a whole new story focused entirely on The Ghost that takes you through new areas of Outbound never seen before, and pits you against The Bound One, as seen in Soul Stalker. For the first time in the series, build a relationship with your Figments, and work together to bring down the being that is responsible for purgatory itself.
Key Features
Overhauled Combat – Reborn Edition‘s combat features many improvements over the original game’s including replenishing SP, type matchups, and a reworked equipment system.
The Ghost’s Adventure – Experience a new story that has you play as one protagonist throughout the whole game. Learn about yourself through talking to your inner demons – your Figments.
Outbound Locations – Use the new train stations to travel between areas, many of which are entirely new to the series.
A Papery World – Experience the remastered visual style that makes use of cel shading, in combination with the classic paper-flat characters.
Entirely Free for Owners of the Original Game
The Outbound Ghost: Reborn Edition will be entirely free to you if you own the original The Outbound Ghost game on Steam before the new game comes out in 2025. Purchase The Outbound Ghost now and get two full adventures for the price of one!

Squares will tell you that the first punk rock band was the Sex Pistols, formed in 1975, but this is hardly a settled matter among punk enthusiasts, who will cite the Ramones, the Saints, Television, the New York Dolls, the Electric Eels, Death, the Stooges, MC5, the Sonics and sundry garage bands stretching ever-further back down the timeline as the true progenitors of the form. When you believe it all started with the Pistols and one of these other acts hits your ears, you can feel the ground shift under your feet. Barony (1990) is kind of like that for TTRPGS.
The folder contains three booklets. The core rules are called Conrad’s Fantasy, though I’ve no idea who Conrad is. In fact, I have a hell of a hard time reading these rules. They’re just…dense and amateurish, full of asides and often just plain unclear. Despite this, I can still see the outline of a completely different kind of “free-style” game for 1990, one focused on storytelling rather than dice rolling and laying out ideas decades ahead of their time. There are no hit points, for instance; rather, characters have a stack of keywords they lose as they take damage (very much like Goblinville, for instance). Skills are checked by rolling 2d8, but there are degrees of success. Weapons aren’t defined, but rather combat tests the way a character uses them. The magic system is free-form, similar to Ars Magica, where players pick a law of reality to break and, anticipating Mage, work to prevent Reality from blowing back on them. Two booklets are devoted to generating games — one for scenarios, the other encounters — using Tarot cards; a third system in the core book uses Tarot to resolve epic combat against dragons (and I can’t help but compare all this Tarot stuff to the recently released His Majesty the Worm).
The result is…curious. It’s strange to read because it seems like 21st century RPGs owe many of their idea to Barony. But like proto-punk, I am not sure that is actually the case — Barony is not often cited and proved damnably difficult to find. Rather, I think these things maybe work in cycles, and that similarly minded designers arrive at the same conclusions sometimes, even if those times are on different points in the timeline. It’s still an amazing read. Er, well, it would have been, at least, if they’d hired an editor.

@forgivenpunishment // one taser might not do it, but what about...?
Holding off a wave of people was no small effort.
Keeping an army off the back of another person while throwing yourself in harm's way, regardless of your strength, was something noble. Something that deserved praise, recognition; the undertaker's efforts would not go unnoticed.
... unfortunately for him, though, it wasn't Vash that they wanted. It wasn't Vash that would be swarmed by fully-amped stun batons and tasers and more bodies trickling in, crowding the hall to prevent escape, or even basic movement that might've allowed him to get the upper hand as some old, croaking voice shrieked don't kill him! We need him alive, he's useless to us dead...!
That had been nearly an hour ago, now, though. Trivial. Shouts and crackles of electricity had been replaced by the din of machines; the hum of glaringly bright surgical lights; the slow, steady blip of a heart monitor keeping track of vitals as six men bustled around the surgical table that they'd strapped him to. They'd cut him out of his clothes to save time, as well; naked save for the various nodes and monitors they'd fastened to him, and a clean, white sheet over his hips that went down to mid-thigh.
Was that sparing his dignity, or theirs? It didn't really matter, did it. No, no, what mattered now was how the subject was feeling whenever he came to again--

There needs to be some type of service where I can send in an abandoned fanfic that I’ve read and someone else writes the rest of it. I’ve spent months to years reading some of these masterpieces just for them to be discontinued. It’s the fact that I still check for updates after four years of nothing 😩😭

hello :D
I love your books I was just wondering what profession Emeric's father had before he died
It's not a big deal but for some reason in my head he was a prefect but I know he probably isnt. (It might just be I think Emeric is some sort of nepo baby lmao)
Emeric's father Anselm worked as a bookbinder and also bookkeeper! The noodleboy comes by his nerdier tendencies honestly. If Anselm had been a prefect, he'd likely still be alive, or at least he wouldn't have been murdered by a small-town bailiff; we haven't really seen a prefect at their full power in this trilogy, and for hilarious reasons, we still won't in Holy Terrors.
One of the most critical aspects of Emeric's character is that he not only lost a loved one to violence at a young age, but the perpetrator was essentially a garden-variety cop who abused his position to defer justice. Not quite as critical, but still important, is that he was bullied fairly badly at the prefect training academy for not being a nepo baby, by peers who were supposed to be seeking to serve Justice.
All that to say, Emeric's iron politesse may sometimes read as sucking up, but it's a tactical mask over a healthy skepticism of (most) figures of authority/high status. We will meet an actual nepo baby in Holy Terrors (and if you're reading The Fallow Year, you probably know who.)

echoes would slay 10 times harder if Clive and Luthier got captured instead of matilda and delthea and also faye got a second and maybe even a third personality trait. oh and if conrad sacrificed himself to duma instead of celica. and also if the dlc didn't cost more than the game itself.
wait this probably counts as game hate now
