the kids online safety act passed the u.s. senate.
long story short (for anyone who hadn't heard of this before) the kids online safety act, aka kosa, is a bill that will censor online content and resources for lgbtq+ matters, reproductive healthcare, activism (INCLUDING PALESTINE AND LIKELY OTHER CRISES GOING ON LIKE IN CONGO OR SUDAN), mental health, etc. everywhere--its effects likely won't be contained to just america.
today, july 30th, 2024, the senate passed it 91-3. it has officially moved to the house of representatives.
is this a pretty massive setback? yes. do you have every right to be scared, sad, angry, or whatever else about this happening? absolutely. but should you give up hope completely? NO!
even though kosa passed the senate, the house is on break/august recess at the moment. we have around an entire month to get emails, calls, and faxes in to house reps, maybe more depending on when they decide to vote on it.
should it pass the house and get signed into law, we still have a whole 18 months before it actually goes into effect. this is plenty of time for digital rights orgs (e.g. fight for the future, the electronic frontier foundation) and other groups that oppose it to file a lawsuit against it. even if, worst-case scenario, it flies through the house immediately after the recess ends, we can still fight this up to march 2026.
so, yes, remember what's at stake here, but also remember that it's not over yet. we lost a battle, not the war.
below are some resources to learn more about kosa and how to contact your reps (first link) + a page that lets you directly contact progressive house reps, sign an open letter opposing the bill, and view others' testimonies against it (second link):
FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT.

in the strike for palestine, please talk about it. please do not stay silent. even if you have zero followers, zero interaction, talk about palestine. reblog, like, comment, boost anything you can calling for ceasefire. do not buy anything that isn't a necessity.
you can email or fax your representatives and senators for free calling for ceasefire. keep doing your daily clicks, donate if you can, and do not keep quiet

Just a genuine reminder, simply liking and reblogging posts or just paying attention to what's happening in places like Palestine, The Congo, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, etc. Does help!
If you can't donate or boycott because you're a minor or in a situation where you can't afford to try signing petitions and spreading awareness so others who can afford to can have information
Edit: there are a lot of good suggestions for what to do in the reblogs that I forgot to mention

It's 9/11. Never forget.
Never forget the active genocide happening in palestine.
Never forget the thousands of innocent children being killed.
Never forget the soldiers who lost their lives trying to protect their home.
Never forget the palestinian mothers.
Never forget the palestinian children.
Never forget the palestinian fathers.
Never forget palestine.

It’s…… I don’t have words about this-
Why,
Why is it violence to end an atrocity? Why is it violent to speak for peace? Why is it violent to end this genocide?
WHY?!
ATP it should be crystal clear that Palestine (Sudan, Congo, and much more countries) is trying to be free from this oppression. Trying to atp survive as more and more are DYING! This shouldn’t be a “oh who’s right” or “oh well to be devil’s advocate”
NO!
This. Is. Genocide we are talking about- WHY ARE WE TRYING TO DOWNPLAY OR SILENCE THAT??! Why?! I’m sick and I am tired of these businesses siding with the oppressor and aren’t seeing the glaring issue (or I’m realizing they don’t give a damn). I’m tired of the fact USA is siding with them to the point of denying for the ceasefire the SECOND TIME MIND YOU!! So again we here the grey area? There isn’t. This is a genocide plain and simple.
More people need to start talking about this. More people need to boycott. More people just need to do whatever they can to help Palestine (and Sudan and Congo). Donate, calling rep, anything. This can’t go on as 2024 rolls the corner. They need our help. And we need to help them.
If I sound angry in this post, I’m not sorry. This is upsetting and you should find this upsetting too.
From the river to the sea Palestine will be free

you motherfuckers have no concept of what "land back" or "decolonize" even mean. you're too busy demonizing entire groups of people, terrified, shitting yourselves, that they'll do even half of the horrors to you that you've done to them for decades or centuries. this shit comes off as hella racist for real. you hate arabs so much. you hate first nations people so much. you hate black people so much. even if you sympathize with them, you can't fucking bear the idea of them gaining freedom, independence, autonomy, safety, because you're so, so scared they'll hurt you back and cause chaos in the streets. these same people who just want to rebuild. who just want to go home. who just want to see their families again. who just want food. who just want medical care. who just want dry, warm shelter. you're so focused on the ideas of colonization, of "us vs. them", of one people displacing the other for a state to exist, that you cannot comprehend coexistence, and your only idea of peace is if an entire group of people were just gone and dead.
grow the fuck up. for the love of GOD, grow the fuck up.

yes seeing the palestine tags not trending for days in a row is disheartening — but that doesn’t mean we’re not talking about it. we are still talking and sharing and reading and we will continue to do so until palestine and every other group of people struggling for freedom are liberated, and beyond.
we have known since this intense new wave of ‘israeli’ aggression started that all social media platforms have been suppressing all forms of palestinian content. so do not become disheartened or demotivated by the lack of tags trending—
*because that does not mean we have stopped talking.*
as people who are not currently in palestine, and especially as non-palestinians, we do not have the right to become demotivated by anything in this situation. we do not have the right to complain that it seems like nothing is changing. we do not have the right to lose hope when palestinians have been passionately fighting the occupation since it began.
and, do not forget about the other struggles for liberation in the world right now. keep talking about palestine, keep talking about congo, keep talking about sudan, about the uyghurs, about the rohingya, about *humanity.*

🇵🇸 IMPORTANT. Please share. 🇵🇸
If you have Instagram, Meta has set an automatic limit on "political content" as a means to stop the spread of awareness about Palestine, Sudan, Congo and more places where genocide and injustice are being enacted.
You can remove the limit in your settings. Instructions:
1. Go to Settings and Activity
2. Scroll down and click go to Suggested Content
Tumblr media
3. Click on Political Content
Tumblr media
4. Select "Don't Limit"
Tumblr media
Please share so more people know about this and what to do

One year since Gaza genocide🇵🇸.A Reminder of Pain and Resilience
VERIFIED AND VETTED FUNDRISING APPEAL🍉🇵🇸

Stand with Palestine, Kindly Read Share and Donate
Hello, I am IFRAH MOHAMED 32year old woman living in Gaza tents, I have two children, and I hope you know the current situation very well in Gaza. I have lived with type 2 diabetes since my early childhood age, but I have been managing the condition.
My health has been a constant battle my blood pressure is still high, and I'm fighting a fever. Living with Type 1 Diabetes feels unbearable at times. I’m a disabled mom, unable to work since a life-altering accident that left me with a spinal cord injury. Now, I'm struggling even more. My blood sugar is dangerously high, and I’ve nearly run out of insulin, the very thing I need to survive. For two months, I’ve been without the medical care I desperately need.
I try to stay strong, but the weight of it all is overwhelming. I just want to get better, to heal, and to be here for my children. All I ask for is the chance to get the medical supplies and care I need so I can live, not just survive. It’s hard to ask for help, but I'm in a place where I can't do this alone. Please, help me fight for my life, so I can be there for the people who need me most
TARGET $ 156/$ 379
BALANCE $ 224
PLEASE HELP ME GET MY INSULIN(HUMALOG)INJECTION JUST FOR TODAY (DONATION LINK)
The effects of Genocide is still visible in every corner of this wounded place. You're our only hope, you can donate to me directly or share my Fundraiser so that I can manage to get my Insulin please 🍉
