Enhancing Kids' Social Skills with Thoughtfully Scheduled Activities
In the trendy speedy-paced digital global, wherein children are getting greater engrossed in monitors and devices, the importance of growing robust social abilities has never been extra. As parents and educators, it is important to offer children opportunities to interact in thoughtfully scheduled kids activities like sports and others that promote social interplay, verbal exchange, and emotional intelligence.
Understanding the Importance of Social Skills
Before we delve into the arena of thoughtfully scheduled activities, permit us first to apprehend why growing social capabilities is so critical for youngsters. Social capabilities are the muse of powerful communique, empathy, and cooperation. They empower kids to navigate various social conditions, build significant relationships, and succeed in both their non-public and future expert lives. A lack of robust social abilities can lead to emotions of isolation, low vanity, and problems in teamwork.
The Challenges in Today's Digital Age
In a generation ruled by means of screens and virtual interactions, children are spending greater time in front of gadgets and much less time carrying out face-to-face conversations. This shift has caused a decline in their capability to read nonverbal cues, express themselves effectively, and apprehend the feelings of others. As dads and moms and educators, it's our responsibility to counteract this fashion and provide youngsters with opportunities to increase and practice their social capabilities.
Thoughtfully Scheduled Activities: A Path to Social Skill Enhancement
**1 ** Group Playdates with a Purpose
Organizing playdates with a particular subject or hobby can encourage kids to collaborate and communicate at the same time as having fun. Activities like constructing a set puzzle, developing art initiatives, or accomplishing outdoor treasure hunts can spark conversations and train children on the way to paintings collectively successfully.
**2 ** Interactive Workshops and Classes
Enrolling youngsters in interactive workshops or lessons together with cooking, dancing, or technological know-how experiments now not simplest exposes them to new competencies but also locations them in environments wherein they want to interact with peers and teachers. This allows them to conquer shyness and boosts their confidence in social settings.
**3 ** Team Sports and Games
Participating in crew sports or video games teaches kids the importance of teamwork, communique, and sportsmanship. They discover ways to strategize, assist every difference, and handle both victories and losses gracefully.
**4 ** Collaborative Art and Creativity Sessions
Engaging in art or innovative tasks as a collection fosters an experience of shared accomplishment. Kids learn to proportion thoughts, listen to other's perspectives, and make contributions to a larger purpose, all of which can be treasured social competencies.
**5 ** Community Service and Volunteer Activities
Involving youngsters in-network carrier or volunteer sports exposes them to a numerous range of people and conditions. This cultivates empathy, compassion, and an understanding of various perspectives, assisting them end up greater socially conscious individuals.
Nurturing Social Skills: The Role of Parents and Educators
While well-organized scheduled activities are crucial, mothers and fathers, and educators play an imperative role in nurturing kids' social skills daily. Here are some strategies to consider:
â˘Â  Lead by Example: Demonstrate effective communication, active listening, and empathy in your interactions, serving as a role model for kids.
â˘Â  Encourage Reflection: After social interactions, encourage kids to reflect on what went well and what they could improve, helping them learn from their experiences.
â˘Â  Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer gentle guidance on communication skills and problem-solving techniques, reinforcing positive behavior.
â˘Â  Create a Safe Space: Foster an environment where kids feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment.
Remember, the adventure of enhancing social abilities is ongoing, and it requires determination, patience, and a commitment to providing kids with the tools they want to thrive socially and emotionally.
"The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people." - Theodore Roosevelt

the morning (afternoon?) after this messy stunt. Floyd got off too easy in my opinion, but it's hard for Les to stay mad at him when he makes those sad pouting faces... đ¤Ś
If you think Floyd's being really dumb at the start of this comic before getting a reality check, you have to take into account that he's madly lovesick and was feeling very smug atm; he's also a 15yo pop troll who thinks making out with someone means they're together now; and he assumed Les's sour mood was entirely the result of a nasty hangover...
P.S. They forgot about Hed lol (I almost forgot about him too, drew him just before posting lmao)

Had an idea, thought I'd make it a prompt, 3k+ words later realized this wasn't a prompt anymore but a ficlet đ
Anyway, here's the first almost 2k of Talia being a good parent and deciding to not go with either Bruce or Ra's and go off and do her own thing and raise Damian and oops she got attached to Jason while checking in on Bruce and saved him from dying in Ethiopia. & now has 2 sons lol
-
When her Beloved and her father demanded Talia make a choice, of who she would choose, she didn't hesitate.
She chose neither of them. She chose her child. She chose herself.
Outwitting both Ra's al Ghul and Batman was no simple feat. They were both brilliant, relentless and with endless resources at their command. It was why their clashes were as devastating as they were. Immovable objects and unstoppable forces the both of them. If there was something they wanted, it was something they would have.
But not her.
They would not have her.
She had her own networks, her own people, her own keen intelligence and sharp cunning. It took time - time she really didn't have - and a great deal of pain and loss, but she slipped them eventually. Shrugged off the shroud of who she had been - who she was made to be - and stepped confidently into her new life.
Her son was born nine days after her freedom had finally, fully been assured.
He was small and perfect in every way. Soft and warm cradled close to her chest, unblemished by the cruelty of the world as he slept soundly in her arms. Even as exhausted as she was after such a long labor, she couldn't bring herself to sleep. Her attention narrowed down entirely on his every quiet breath, his downy soft hair, his round peaceful face.
In the weeks that followed his eyes would shift and change from a newborn's blue to her own green. It would take years before she could know if he inherited any of his father's features, but that was fine. He was hers and hers alone.
She named him Damian.
In another life she would name him with her father in mind. That her son would rise as Heir to the Demon and conquer the world. That he'd stand as ruler of all.
In this one, she named him with hope in her heart that what he would master was his own life. That he would never be forced to bow to the will of anyone else. To be made to act as servant or puppet. Let him tame his fate into something good and kind and happy.
She did her best to give him the life he deserved.
Lavished him with all her love and affection. Gave him everything he could ever want or need. The friends she began making for herself - not just trusted allies, but friends - laughed that she would spoil him rotten. It was probably true, but she didn't have it in her to care.
Her son would have the childhood he would have been denied if raised raised in the home of either of their fathers. Her father would have demand harsh lessons and frightened obedience and impossible standards. Damian's would have tried - she knew her Beloved would have tried - but his heart would always be for his city first and all else, even his children, second.
Talia kept tabs on both of them, covertly. Ensured she always kept a healthy distance from anything that involved her father or his people. Gathered stories of her Beloved's exploits to share with her son when he was old enough to hear them.
It gave her insight on just what choosing her Beloved would have meant. Reassured her that while not choosing her father had been the right choice, choosing her Beloved would have been the wrong one.
Bruce Wayne was a good man. Brilliant and driven with his kind heart and admirable goals. Breathtaking in his skill and ability.
Disappointing in his parenting skills.
Talia knew she was lacking as a parent herself. That her own upbringing had left its scars and that try as she might she'd undoubtedly end up doing the same to her own child over the years. But she always pushed herself hard towards improving, in making herself better for the tiny boy that she loved more than anything else. And she felt satisfied that in the very least that when presented with options on how her and her son's life would be, she'd made the one that was best for Damian.
Not the life of an assassin or a vigilante, but the life of a child.
A child who was taught some of the skills of both the worlds she'd turned her back on, admittedly, but only ever for his own protection. Damian was safer knowing how to hide, how to escape, how to fight. She had done her best, but there was always the looming threat that they might be found one day. She needed to be sure he was ready, if that time ever come.
She didn't teach him the way she was taught.
When her son fumbled or failed she gently corrected him. Walked him through what he'd done wrong, how he could improve. Made a game out of the experience so that he came running up to her on toddling feet with bright eyes begging that they have a lesson. His excitement and delight in it all made him a better student then her fear and desperate need for her father's approval and affection.
There was a day she caught sight of him, all of four years old, tiny face scrunched in a look of concentration as he practiced the form she'd taught him the day before with his small, wooden practice sword. Some of his father's features lingered at the edges of his face, but he'd deepened his resemblance to her by picking up her mannerisms and expressions. Her son, going through the same steps and motions she had when she'd been his age, little body wobbling as he turned to fast before plopping on the ground with a tiny oof.
Talia had small silver scars on the back of her hands, so thin and so old as to nearly be invisible anymore. They burned all the same as she recalled herself stumbling in nearly the same way. Stomach churning as she remembered the terror she'd felt as her instructor had snatched her up by her hair and drug her over to a low table, holding her hands in place with a massive hand. The way she'd bit her lip hard enough that her mouth filled with blood as he struck her with the thin lash, knowing that if she cried the punishment would be all the worse.
Damian only blinked his big green eyes and scowled the same way she did whenever something of minor importance didn't go the way she wanted it to. Then he saw her standing there in the doorway watching him and his face lit up, bright as the son and just as beautiful as he jumped to his feet and darted over to her. Tiny hand clinging to the loose fabric of her pant leg as he begged her show me again Mama!
It was moments like that where she knew beyond any shadow of a doubt she'd made the right choice.
Her father would have broken her brilliant, kind hearted son. Would have done to him what was done to her to forge Damian into a weapon.
Her beloved...
He would never hurt her son like that. Not the way her father and his loyal followers would. But she couldn't ignore the fact that Damian would still be hurt all the same under his father's tutelage.
Talia knew the man she loved well. Adored his strengths, but was not blind to his flaws. He kept his heart well guarded, hidden behind imposing walls of silence and razor wire of words he didn't truly mean. Still kind, but horribly distant when it came to those he cared for most. It shielded him some, perhaps, but it left those who loved him feeling lost and alone.
She saw how Dick Grayson had grown over the years. Tall and clever and lonely and bitter. Fighting for independence, for acknowledgement, for his father to speak words of love and respect. Things Bruce felt but almost never said unless he thought things were dire.
She saw too how the heavy weight of her Beloved's priorities weighed up on his second son.
Young Jason Todd who saw magic in the harsh world he'd been drawn into and desired to be the protection for others that he never had growing up. She saw much of herself in him, though he faced the world with far more hope than she had at his age. He was a bright boy with a good heart that had weathered a harsh upbringing that Talia could sympathize with. There was a familiar anger in him too, broiling just beneath the surface, flaring up and burning him as much as everyone else when triggered.
Most of all though Talia could see the desperate loneliness that had marred her own life in the boy. The soul deep fear of abandonment. The painful desire for love from a father that always seemed to stay at arm's length who spoke rarely of affection and often of missions to be completed.
She kept a close eye on her Beloved's second Robin.
When he left for Ethiopia, searching for family in a stranger that had already given him up, she'd followed.
Jason only ever wanted family and love. A good boy, bright and fierce and brave. A boy Talia saw a lot of herself in, who faced the world with such determined brightness in spite of the pain and hardship he'd known.
Shelia Haywood took that boy that Talia had grown so fond of, took his trust and his love and crushed it beneath her heel. Callously handed him over to the Joker without a second thought. As if he was disposable, as if he was nothing more than a puppet to use and toss away when it suited her.
Talia had risked everything when she'd decided she would not choose either her father or her Beloved. She'd turned her back on her entire life, everything that had ever been and ever could be on either side. She spent months running, hiding, fighting and killing, in orchestrating a plan that could outwit and outmaneuver the two most brilliant men she knew. And she'd done it all so that her son could live free, as master of his own life.
Jason Todd had come to Ethiopia looking for a mother.
Talia, with blood on her hands and a burning warehouse behind her as she carried his broken body to safety, made sure he found one.

when toshiro got on laios ass for being inconsiderate and never thinking about how his actions affect others like he was mean abt it but hes not wrong. Thats a pretty major character flaw and a pattern of behavior for laios â w not choosing jobs that made money for namari who is in a pretty dire financial situation where she cant even get off the island and has to go adventuring in the dungeon to get out of debt, who even explicitly brought this up, eating marcilles familiar immediately even tho she was attached to it, kidnapping shuro into his party and putting him in life threatening situations without like really checking he wanted to be thereâŚ?, wanting to see if izutsumi has more than one set of nipples when dehumanization is a HUGE huge issue for her the list goes on and on and on. Like when a friend does this to you its just kinda annoying but when ur the leader u really should be checking if everyones needs r met without them telling u. Like the autism plays a factor for sure, his cultural upbringing plays a factor for sure, but as ppl regardless I think u gotta step up to meet the needs of ppl in the moment or realize u shouldnt be calling the shots. just bc its influenced by factors out of ur control does not make it not a serious character flaw. And its written as such in the story.
#It makes him an interesting character w nuance and i like him for it#its a pretty big flaw dungeon meshi hits over ur head several times#And part of his character arc to grow as a leader who can communicate and take other ppls needs into consideration effectively so he can#be an effective king (an ending im still like kinda confused abt like i get its thematically full circle moment and a love#letter to the genre but like WHAT)#Granted ppl in glass houses shouldnt throw stones since shuros also a poor leader (worse than laios)#to the point that i think its a stretch to say it wasnt maizuru leading that party like âshuros partyâ i mean he sure was in their proximit#but his opinion does actually matter to laios and gets him to listen so ig it had to be said đ#dungeon meshi spoilers#Laios touden#But like it was not the first time this was brought up to him⌠cmon man#Toshiro is a sheltered rich kid with no conflict resolution skills who at least was kept materially comfortable his entire life#tho on the other fronts⌠genuinely he wouldve been happier if he wasnt born into that family#and when hes angry his actions become vicious and targeted to a shocking degree#but his assessment of situations tend to be accurate to a degree thats surprising for a person from another culture thats only been there#For 2 yrs#toshiro nakamoto#in da tags i suppose#Shuro

If you want to be bothered. Maybe this for dick and Bruce???
i ALWAYS want to be bothered these are always the highlight of my day tbh you're a delight for letting me just yap <3
Dick. For the canon isn't real square I am Specifically talking about the Tom Taylor Nightwing run. Usually I ignore bad runs but given this one is ongoing (though about to end THANK GOD and get replaced by Dan Watters who i have high hopes for since i adored his Sword of Azrael (2022) run but i digress) so I counted it. Especially since it's so debated if that run is bad or not, for some reason. I'm a 90s Nightwing truther. I love Dick so dearly and tbh recently I've been more enamored with him the more I read his Discowing era, I didn't used to be as big of a Dick stan as I am these days.
Bruce. Honestly where do you even start with Bruce. I want to fist fight him and also patch him up. He got me into comics and superheroes as a whole but I roll my eyes whenever he shows up in a story. He's a bastard and usually not a good father but also complex and should be dissected under a magnifying glass. I love him dearly. He's also just the worst. I think that's why I love him. I'm always a fan of unabashedly Complicated Asshole Bruce who's generally not always the best person, particularly not to the Batfamily and that being the driving force of his relationships with them, especially in shipping.
And for bonus points, Tim. Because know above all else, I'm a Tim Drake kinnie /deg. He's been my number one for a decade and I've yet to uproot him from my brain. He's literally the Worst half the time and I love him for it. And the canon isn't real refers to Tim Drake: Robin because... that sure was a comic. And that's about all I can say about it. Pre-Flashpoint Tim I miss you so dearly. I think it's fun that I want to put him in a blender and drink the juice but also want Nothing Ever to happen to him.
#necrotic answerings#batcest#bruce wayne#dick grayson#tim drake#fandom tag#anyway the fandom is i guess mean to all of them#but like it's deserving.#everytime i meet a tim anti i'm like you're SO right. he's the worst. pls hate his ass more.#same with bruce. like never met a bruce anti who didn't have endless receipts for hating his ass.#(except for those using the shallow 'he's a billionaire beating up the mentally ill' argument which. i ignore)#(bc why are you. consuming superhero content if you just don't like or understand the genre. it's lazy pseudointellectual nonsense.)#and i don't think ppl are truly mean to dick. i think they just don't understand him.#which extends to the entire batfamily bc well. the state of the fandom and all.#like âeveryone else is wrong about themâ isn't in a âno one gets them but meâ way#(except about tim truly no one gets him but me /j)#it's in a âoh y'all just want to fit them into neat boxes don't youâ way#one more person call dick grayson âeldest daughter coreâ and i'm going to your house and eating the stuffing out all of your pillows.#first of all can we stop calling male characters âfemale codedâ in any way please#women exist in comics too.#second of all it's just not true? and it's not the complex he has with bruce nor his âsiblingsâ if you wish to call them that#and then bruce. where do you even start.#you dare say you think it's in character for bruce to hit his kids and *SOCIETY. society goes wild.*#like ofc it has to be in specific contexts. he's not just swinging.#and sometimes it *is* written very OOC bc bruce is written as a machismo self insert i give you that#but yeah a soldier who views his children as soldiers and has zero healthy emotional regulation or communication skills#is gonna sometimes swing in his worst moments. it is just how the superhero genre works everyone is gonna fist fight to solve problems.#why are you reading comics about ppl who hit other ppl for a living if you don't like it when they hit ppl.#also random hot take about dick's characterization#the young justice tv show did incredible damage to ppl's perception of him and i dislike the take it's the best adaptation of him

When someone elseâs art is so good you physically canât look at it because of artistic jealousy
#Yâall do this to me on a daily basis I swear#I literally canât follow some people because their stuff is so good it breaks my heart#I think the art world has a lot of envy and competitiveness that no one really talks about#Sure weâre all for self expression but so many of us are so used to being âthe art kidâ that anyone else taking or sharing that spot feels#like losing a peice of your identity.#Iâve had some artist friends who dealt with their jealousy by tearing others down or justifying their art by going#âWell youâre bad at ____ but Iâm better at ____â#Or they would give unsolicited critique that was more like gently worded criticism than friendly advice to help someone reach their goals#And because of those experiences⌠I never want to become that person#I definitely get the surges of jealousy⌠But I very much try to remind myself that fellow artists are my friends-not my rivals#The people I feel the most envy for are often the people I hype up the most#And beyond that- nobody in the art community is trying to gatekeep information from you.#If you want to learn skills from other people- donât hesitate to ask them. Most artists happily spill their brains for you in a conversatio#(Foolish artist⌠they donât even know how many brain juices of theirs Iâm absorbing-MWAHAHAHA)#(Iâm gonna come come back stronger as an artist⌠And then I can learn and grow EVEN MORE BWAHAHAHA)#So anyway⌠Jealousy is a valid and very real thing⌠but what you choose to do about it can either hinder or help you.#Thatâs all folks#art meme#art

How to handle running into a former friend or ex that youâre not looking to reconnect with
Letâs talk about something we all face at some point: running into someone from your past that youâve moved on from, whether itâs an old friend or a former lover.
Youâve done the work, youâve grieved, and youâve leveled up. Youâre not interested in rehashing the past or rekindling that connection. But what happens when you bump into them in public?
Often when this happened to me, I found the other person missed me and wanted to spend time with me again - even when they had ghosted me. This made me uncomfortable. They had confused me, I had to grieve the loss of the relationship and now they want me again???
Believing I owed them an explanation due to happy times spent together, I let them drag me into pointless discussions to figure out what had gone wrong years ago.
Every time, I realized our connection had ended for a reason, and my explaining only opened up old wounds.
Don't do that.
Hereâs how to handle encounters with former friends, lovers and foes like a boss:
1. Stay Calm and Composed
First things firstâtake a deep breath. Youâve already moved on emotionally, and this is just another moment in your day. Youâve got this.
2. Acknowledge Them Briefly
If you make eye contact, a simple âHiâ or âHelloâ with a confident smile is more than enough. Youâre showing that youâre mature, unbothered, and not holding any grudges. No need for deep dives into what happened.
3. Keep it Short
If they try to engage in small talk, go ahead and be polite, but keep it light and brief. A quick âItâs good to see you,â followed by a natural exit, sends the message that youâre not interested in going any deeper.
4. Graceful Exit Strategies
Sometimes, itâs best to have an escape plan. If the conversation starts to linger, here are some graceful ways to make your exit:
âIâd love to chat more, but Iâm on a tight schedule today. Have a great day!â
âItâs nice seeing you, but I need to finish my shopping before I forget what I need.â
âI have to go; someoneâs waiting for me. Take care!â
âWell, I should get going. It was nice running into you!â
âIâll let you get back to your day. See you around!â
5. Donât Feel the Need to Explain
If they try to bring up the past, itâs perfectly fine to deflect. A simple, âThat was a long time ago, and Iâm focused on the present nowâ will keep you from getting sucked into a conversation youâre not interested in. Youâve moved on, and your time and energy are precious.
Itâs all about maintaining your peace of mind and protecting the progress youâve made. Youâve leveled up, and you donât need to revisit chapters youâve already closed.
Stay polite, stay brief, and most importantly, stay focused on you. Youâve got bigger and better things to do! đŞâ¨

Kids Play TTRPGs
There are plenty of people who started playing D&D or other TTRPGs as kids. Heck, imaginative play (which all kids engage in on some level and in some manner) is central to what TTRPGs do. Roleplaying is a critical part of developing your child self as a person!
So what's the benefit of giving kids a rule-bound system like D&D, Quest, or Kids on Bikes? Why should kids play TTRPGs and not just make-believe?
TTRPGs teach boundaries.
Some of this depends on how a particular group runs, but a healthy TTRPG group teaches kids where boundaries are and how to respect them.
This can show up in lots of ways.
letting dice determine success
working within the limitations of a class, feature, or spell description
avoiding upsetting or scary topics, as requested by a player
offering trigger warnings and safety tools
accepting when a GM says no
respecting when another player says no
Some of those things are organic to telling a story together. Some of them are brought in to keep the game fun for everyone, like safety tools. All of these examplesâand more!âhelp kids practice boundaries one step removed from real life, where things are a bit harder.
TTRPGS provide escape.
As adults, we think of TTRPGs as escape from the crushing reality we live in. We can free ourselves from the news cycle or our social media feeds for a few hours and pretend we live in a world where our actions are world-changing (and I'm talking saving-the-world-from-evil-powers world-changing).
Kids need escape too! Not so that they're living outside of the world, but so they can practice the skills they need to live within it.
It's way easier to advocate for your PC who's scared of creepy crawlies than it is to admit your skin crawls around your buddy's pet snake.
Kids can practice all sorts of social skills in the freedom of TTRPGs because those games provide escape and distance from the world they actually inhabit. For example:
admitting fears
facing conflict
handling disagreement
learning about themselves
experimenting with consequences (from stealing a loaf of bread to going full murderhobo at times)
setting goals and making plans
Games are low stakes ways for all of us to practice tough conversations or new social skills. Why not let kids get a leg up by teaching them to role play?
TTRPGs build confidence.
Practice makes perfect, and TTRPGs are a great place to practice your sense of self (while inhabiting a character).
As kids get more confident roleplaying their PC, they learn gain confidence in who they are and speaking from that place.
This doesn't look like adults might expect though. We think of the bard suddenly offering a grand speech, or the shy loner forging bonds with the rest of the party.
Kids gaining confidence might not look like what you expect (more on that another time), but TTRPGs help clear the path for confident, empowered kids. And that's something worth making space for!

so sorry for Morrowseer... he was an advisor for the queen and met a fiery end, but if he existed in real life, he would have been that type of person who's been complaining about his horrid work-life balance for the past 5 years and has around 6 hours of sleep a night, makes Moon's blood pressure shoot up from merely existing in the same space as her mother (usually Morrowseer stays in the living room and Secretkeeper watches Netflix off her phone at max volume in the kitchen) but it's okay because they're keeping the marriage together until their only child turns old enough and leaves the house. Also drops comments about IceWings and SandWings and RainWings while Moon slumps in her seat and stares awkwardly while refusing to think about the very real people who flashed through her mind. He's also on medication for something and has one of those middle aged male afflictions that he'll have until the day he dies. We suspect that his genetics'll take him out in 30 years. Unfortunately, his sacrifices have done much for the family and Moon still feels guilty as he gripes about it. Still makes Moon feel like garbage when he compares her to all the other NightWing kids in the neighborhood, whose coursework, GPAs, and extracurriculars he knows in detail from all that NightWing parent gossip (he's still clowning on Farsight for letting Fierceteeth go to the community college). Also says something to Moon that will affect her psyche for years and then yells at her for being clearly affected by having a parent like him.
#Morrowseer wof#do you see my vision#i sort of have a clear vision for how the NightWing community works in the modern day AU#all the kids unfortunately sort of know each other and so do the parents#most accomplished kid in the community is Starflight but he has a troublemaker sister#Mightyclaws is the most unique kid by virtue of his art skills but they won't let him actually study art in the future#kid everyone also likes to clown on as dumb while praising their own children is Strongwings even though you swear he graduated years ago#Bigtail made fun of for his name alone. They don't know what he does because they're still laughing at his name.#Fatespeaker is the nicest kid and genuinely doesn't wish on people's downfall#Mindreader also that girl you know on and off for years as an acquaintance#Moonwatcher has decent standing but Morrowseer had an easier time bragging about her in elementary school. now she's just a girl who reads.#Sunny is probably the happiest kid but some think of her as just a SandWing and not a 'real NightWing' or whatever blah blah

The truly annoying thing about college is that I'm kind of expected to be a top performer because I actually buckle down and do the work. I don't even do it that well, I just do it, and so I get decent grades (not phenomenal, but good) and I'm considered a good student. There are other kids who are waaaaaaaay smarter than I am. When it comes to raw intelligence they have me beat all hollow--they instantly pick up on topics I have to grapple with for days or weeks of careful study. They will easily answer a question that takes me four or five minutes of puzzling over to solve. But they're flunking out because they refuse to study. They're failing classes because they won't submit work. I'm only considered a good student because I muddle through it and actually submit assignments. Imagine how much better they could be if they actually studied for their exams or didn't wait to work on their projects until the day they were supposed to be submitted.
#some of this is that i feel a little pressured#i know i'm only considered a good student because these other kids aren't trying...what do i do if they start making an effort?#and some of it is genuine sadness#i would kill to have the math skills some of these kids have#or the ability to smoothly improvise on topics they haven't studied#they're skating by because they do everything the day it's due instead of studying#they're all openly bragging about using chatgpt to do their homework and submitting late work#but imagine if they actually put some effort in#they could be riding scholarships to far better places than a community college in a dead end city in a dead end state#but if the current school statistics are anything worth judging#(and based on their current behavior)#half of them will flunk out#and its already started#(granted today i did do an entire assignment due today all with maybe 4 hours to spare...but in my defense our printer is broken)
