While Colorado Springs ended up being the venue for 4CC due to the relatively short notice after the Gold Coast could no longer host, the ISU was grossly incompetent in failing to ensure medical attention and oxygen masks were immediately available on site. The worst part is that the lack of safety protocols, when the conditions are well known, is unsurprising, given that this is the ISU. Watching so many skaters collapse on the ice - Boyang, Riku, Ryuichi, Spencer, Maxime, among others - and no medical professional come to assist was terrifying. And we had even more competitors gasping for air after their skate and in the kiss and cry, with no oxygen available to them.
Places at very high elevation including Colorado Springs, Courchevel, and Mexico City have been host to skating events, particularly Junior Grand Prixes. Kirsten Moore-Towers mentioned that when she competed at JGP Mexico City in 2008, oxygen was available in the venue for the competitors. So, this complete lack of oversight at 4CC in being properly equipped, when the effects of competing at high elevation are so well known, is utter gross incompetence.

Matt Dixon and Allan Smith at NBC News:
Get ready for Donald Trump’s blue state extravaganza.  With less than four weeks until Election Day, Trump is scheduled to hold rallies in staunchly Democratic states he has virtually no chance of winning. It’s an unorthodox strategy campaign advisers say is designed to focus on areas where Democratic policies have failed, but it will also keep him away from the small handful of swing states almost certain to determine the election.
Over the next month, the former president has events scheduled in Colorado, California, Illinois and New York. President Joe Biden won those states by an average of 20 points in 2020, with his 13-point Colorado win the closest margin. Colorado is the only one of those states to vote for a Republican nominee for president this millennium, backing George W. Bush in 2004. While each event will be held in slightly different venues, the most notable will be later this month in Madison Square Garden, a place where Trump has long said he wanted to hold political rally. “Choosing high-impact settings makes it so the media can’t look away and refuse to cover the issues and the solutions President Trump is offering,” said a senior Trump campaign adviser of the strategy behind late-election cycle events in Democratic states. “We live in a nationalized media environment and the national media’s attention on these large-scale, outside-the-norm settings increases the reach of his message across the country and penetrates in every battle ground state.”
“President Trump is closing the campaign highlighting the problems the country faces as a result of Harris and Biden’s failed leadership and articulating his solutions to solve the problems they created,” the adviser added. The decision to deviate from a traditional campaign playbook comes at a time when the race is almost certain to be decided in places like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Michigan, places that are within the margin of error in most public polling and considered winnable for both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. “This does not seem like a campaign putting their candidate in critical vote rich or swing vote locations — it seems more like a candidate who wants his campaign to put on rallies for optics and vibes,” longtime Republican operative Matthew Bartlett said.
He called Trump the “most unorthodox candidate in modern history,” which means the off-script strategy could have some value. “In 2016, Trump realigned the party to be much more rural and working class, now in 2024 he is trying to expand his voting base along certain cultural lines that may eat away at traditional Democratic voting blocs,” Bartlett said. A second Trump adviser said that no matter where Trump holds rallies, he gets huge online viewership, including in swing states, and there is a confidence within the campaign about their chances, which in their estimation allows for some risk. “Certainly we are bullish on our prospects writ large,” the adviser said. Some Trump supporters argued that going into areas of the country traditionally not visited by Republican presidential candidates could have a sort-of coattail effect, helping boost down-ballot Republicans in tough races. None of the states where Trump is visiting has a competitive Senate race, but there are a handful of competitive House races in a year where the majority of that chamber will likely be decided on a razor-thin margin.
In California, House District 40 is represented by Republican Young Kim, and House District 41 is represented by Republican Ken Calvert, both of whom are in contested races in the Los Angeles media market along with Coachella, which is where Trump will be holding his rally. In New York, Rep. Mike D’Esposito won Nassau County’s 4th district in 2022, but it is a seat that leans Democratic and was won by Joe Biden by 15 points in 2020. Flipping the seat played a big role in helping Republicans take the House majority in 2022. “The fact that we can pickup down ballot seats with President Trump’s aggressive travel plan is a testament to the well orchestrated and  effective campaign plan that focuses on unifying all Americans,” said Ed McMullen, a Trump donor who served as ambassador to Switzerland during the Trump administration.  “It is a well-planned effort to reach out and win key seats,” he added.
Donald Trump will be holding indoctrination rallies in 4 solidly Blue states in the run-up to the general election. This is wasting money big time.

Monday, 16 December
Hey Tumblr,
Feeling electric today. Have a gig coming up on Wednesday that's a significant deal for me and my community. It'll be nothing but a good time and I'm buzzing with excitement!
About the gig: I'll be playing ambient Blues & Jazz/Rock & Roll at the 'End of The Year [2024] Scrapped Magazine Party' from 5-9PM at a local venue in Fort Collins, Colorado. I've been working with Scrapped Magazine this past year and it's changed my life! Wrote two concert reviews (up on my Substack) for Scrapped and have some drawings/illustrations I've shared in the magazine. I'm still at odds with defining myself as an artist and in a way resent labeling my work, but everything I've done in scrapped is like little glimmers of joy for me. Never would've imagined I'd actually be doing any of this. As I've head manifestation coaches say, living my "wish fulfilled"
Went/going through the motions to prepare for Wednesday: Promoting the event to friends and colleagues, practicing by myself and with my team, playing at open mics, playing at a live film scoring of the 1986 film Milo and Otis #deafdogdojo, stepping into spiritual growth, and making friends. It's been fun work but exhausting. Overwhelmed for sure but all my effort is to make this whole music thing I'm doing into my job - and I have faith in the process!
Fighting off toxic attitudes and expectations from (myself) [and] others and accepting the things that haven't worked out exactly like my wishes/prayers/dreams and fantasies. Really, there's a sense of my imagination being at odds with reality as I shape a life I want to live. In the words of Silver the Hedgehog in the 2011 video game Sonic Generations, "I'm an optimist, but I'm also a realist." Also I'm pessimist and suspect I'm autistic. Having fun though!
Check out my concert reviews on Substack. I've written about Satellite Pilot, Cedric Burnside, and Xiu Xiu - also listen to all of their music. Buy Scrapped Magazine! You can subscribe or buy single -current - issues online. Scrapped is on IG @scrappedmagazine and 2025 is gearing up to be a big year for the publication.
Thanks for letting me vent to you T. I know that you're a internet platform and don't give a shit that I talk to you, but writing my thoughts out in a letter/diary format helps me to organize thoughts in my brain. I'll let you know how the gig on Wednesday goes!
Yours, Will

I had so much fun at Rosé Forêt's La Vie En Rosé J-fashion event this week! Truly unbelievable that this was their first in-person event. They did such a fantastic job. I can only imagine the planning that went into everything-the beautiful venue, the professional photographers, the tea party catering, the karaoke set-up, the vendors, the decorating, and probably a million other behind-the-scenes things I'll never know about. I thought the archival collection of fashion magazines was so cool. I've mostly been to lolita meets (with sometimes a few oujis besides me) before, so attending a broader J-fashion event was so fun. The gyarus definitely know how to bring the party! And there were actually more oujis than I expected! The Colorado comm was so kind and welcoming, not to mention incredibly talented. All the music performances, oh my god. And so many people heard I had just gotten there from sea level and immediately checked to make sure I was taking it easy and getting enough water and electrolytes. I felt very cared for, lol. You guys made the altitude sickness worth it. I will definitely remember dancing on the 21st night of September... at a masquerade ball surrounded by gorgeous outfits and magical decor.

End of Year Review 2023
Tumblr media
It is currently Christmas Eve-Eve at the time of this writing, which can mean only one thing; The End of Year Review for 2023. These past three years held a lot of significant changes and growth for me, most of which I likely wouldn't have experienced had I remained in that horrible part of the mid-west. Despite the mass 'rona pandemic and the constant mental health battles/challenges, 2020-2022 were very good to me and I consider them the best years of my life.
2023 is a welcoming addition to that train.
The first major reason were the goals I set at the end of 2022, all of which were achieved without fail (to a point);
I continued making animated shorts, but only produced 2. However, this was a good glow up year for The Boris Blobinski Show! I got to manage a smaller production team, consisting of my talented friends, and together we banged out a beautifully animated episode!
I got my contact lenses! However I haven't really worn them since I left the optometrist's office. I still intend on using these for when I go swimming or to the spa, but I can see why some people aren't crazy about this option.
I finally got my hair dyed, and it wound up being a vibrant cherry red. Had it done back in March, and most of my hair is still pretty red despite the roots coming in.
Been losing a small chunk of weight still, which means I was able to convert to smaller shirt and pants sizes.
I did a lot more exploring this year! I finally secured my Californian rite of passage by visiting In-N-Out burger, discovered a couple awesome local bakeries, and went to the movies for the first time in years. First major achievement was going to Universal for the first time ever and visiting Nintendo Land! The second biggest crowning achievement was the daytrip to The Ventura Harbor in April, where I got to board a small wildlife sea cruise and witness dolphins, whales, sea lions and seals.
I got back to working on comics again, and produced two short stories for a larger collective that is still in production. Second major reason were the events that weren't planned out of the gate, but were absolutely welcomed;
I saved enough money to get a new desktop PC built. My friend from Colorado flew down and spent the week with me, partially to help get the PC built to proper standards and to also spend some quality time together in person.
I started freeway driving practice mid-year; taking smaller steps to feel more comfortable driving in the faster/wider lanes without having my PTSD invoked. I have a long way to go, but even driving within a 5 mile radius is still worth celebrating, especially since I've actively avoided freeway driving for most of my life.
My best friend is finally coming to visit me at the end of December! I have not seen them in person since 2016, and it will be their first time visiting my apartment space as well.
As far as plans for 2024 go, here's what I have on the docket;
I will be going to an actual jury duty selection at the end of January for the first time. (Exciting, I know!) I'm curious to see what the process is like, but I hope I can dismiss myself from the proceedings. (Respectfully, of course.)
I plan on hosting another friend visit me around the Spring/Summer.
I will be working on a very ambitious episode of The Boris Blobinski show that will take up most of the first quarter of my year.
I will continue my weight loss regimen as I have started back in 2021. As of this writing I am now down to 186 lbs. This is actually pretty close to my first goal, but I want to continue this trend until I hit between 135-140.
I still want to do more local travel and discover new venues. I'm eyeballing Downtown Ventura and will likely add a few more intended places to my list.
Attend activity based events like Life Drawing and other art related functions. As an artist, it's important I find different means to shake the rust off of my skills, and as a human I need to start making efforts in social connections again.
Continue freeway driving practice to the point where I can actually go beyond 5 miles comfortably.
Continue working on my one shot comics, see if I can at least produce two more stories before building a website/platform to host them all.
Outside of Boris Blobinski, I want to be more active in the animation space again and make a few more originals outside of that project.
Lastly, I want to look into Toon Boom Harmony official Certification. I've worked with the program for over 10 years, both for traditional hand-drawn animation and character rigging, and I would love to have that piece of recognition. Hell, I am not against the idea of applying as an instructor if I can get that far!
Of course I don't think I'll be able to jump into everything as intended. I know 2024 will also be met with some unexpected surprises, but I'll gladly welcome them all the same. And lastly, before we pull the plug on this, I want to thank everyone involved in my life that has made 2023 a fantastic experience. You know who you are.

Did you know? Did you know, that, um, that Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado is on a National Historic Landmark in the National Park Service? And that, in addition to numerous concerts (including a famous 1978 Grateful Dead Show and the 25th anniversary concert for South Park in 2022 (featuring Primus and Ween)), it has also been used as a venue for local high school graduations? And that you can find the full archive of performances and events there at https://www.redrocksonline.com/archive/?

Thank you to whoever at Red Rocks did this.

I think because most of my friends and I have lived in major cities (New York, DC, London) in our 20s, we're on a slower timeline than the people I grew up with in the midwest.
So that's why I'm only now just entering the wedding/babies era for my friends and I just need to put this out into the universe: I do not want to be a bridesmaid ever again please.
One of my best friends just told me yesterday that they're about to lock down their venue in Colorado -- the same place where Taylor Hill the VS model had her wedding this year. It's going to be a 4-day event. Even though it's a year away I am SWEATING at how much this is going to cost. Oh and it'll be black tie. Her bach is going to be 30A or St. Simons which like gorg I've never been to either but God I forget how much is expected of you for weddings. Like I didn't have a bridal shower or a couples shower or an engagement party and we had a very small wedding so just my MOH and my husband's best man and we paid for their flights/hotel/hair and makeup like everything.
Anyway, this will be me a year from today:
