First half here: https://www.tumblr.com/empyrean11/755477272309415936/my-list-of-first-first-half-jays
Commence the second half ... er, highlights?
Joey Votto and Bo are both hurt immediately out of all star break? CURSED
All Star Break! Vladdy is our only all-star. He doesn't participate in HR Derby, but does wear a Teo Jays jersey. Teo wins! 🥹
Stewy finally is allowed to play, makes 2 great catches in the bottom of the 9th
KK's on waivers, plays spectacularly anyway
Ernie 3-run homers on back-to-back days, but everyone gets injured (Bo, Varsh, half the pitchers in the whole minor league system, 3rd base coach)
KK announces he will retire after this season
Ernie pitches an inning against the Rays when the Jays are down by 13 runs. He's the only Jays pitcher of the day who doesn't give up a run. Spencer walks in the 9th inning when they're down by 13. Come on, you can't do that.
ERNIE WALK OFF!!!
Gausman complete game!!
Stewy's first hit, it's a double!!
Yariel has a really, really bad game. Optioned to AAA. Immediately recalled because so many guys have just been traded
Addison's first HR!! 🚀
Ricky Tiedeman needs TJ surgery 😥
TRADE DEADLINE WEEK WAS SO AWFUL. Jano and KK and Kikuchi and Yimi Garcia and Trevor Richards and Justin Turner and IKF and giant Nate
Loperfido joins the Jays, wears Jano's #9 and we weep again.
The roomies have adopted Loperfido
Let's just intentionally walk Aaron Judge all the time.
Spencer and Davis got haircuts, I am inconsolable
Joey Votto is actually actually playing with the Bisons!
Varsho makes incredible catches every damn day
Springer hockey jersey giveaway, everyone is so cute
traded Cam Eden 😭 to the yankees 😭
Vladdy's hit streak ends at 22 games. He has been INCREDIBLE!! PAY! THE! MAN!
De Los Santos first MLB hit & RBI! he's immediately sent back to AAA.
Here comes Will Wagner! BLAZING HOT start!!
Joey Votto retires, announces via a 9-second Instagram video filmed in the Bisons parking lot (because, of course he would)
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th. Loperfido HR to tie it, Barger to WALK IT OFF
There is a new celebration. Bird cage? Hand on head like a unicorn? Stomping? "The Georgie"?? The boys are weird but are having SO much fun
Bowden with 8 no-hit innings!! Bitter Angel guy says he was "hittable and not special" - Chris Bassitt makes it known that he does not agree with a handmade sign on the broadcast next day.
The Danny Jansen 😭😭 / time travel weirdness game. Jays win both ends of this double header-ish thing. George Springer can't stop hitting home runs.
"Players weekend" Ernie has a pencil bat!
Stewy sent back to Buffalo 😥 Lukes (so much beard) comes up.
Addison wrestles alligators and bears?!
The boys trounce the twins 15-0, it was SO MUCH FUN. Bonus: Ernie bats left-handed to protect his sore ankle
Leo dives thru the netting and into the stands to make a ridiculous catch!!
Bowden with 8 no-hit innings again! What is this guy?!
KIRKY WALK-OFF
Davis is back babyyy (he's using Jano's old bats?!?!)
Leo gets HBP every day
BO IS BACK!!! REUNITED WITH VLADDY 💕
Bo breaks his finger in fielding practice literally the next day. WTF
Will Wagner and Varsho also need surgery. Stewy & Clase called up.
Swept at the Trop. Of course.
Everything is bad but tiny bits of light: Clase first MLB HR! Lukes first MLB HR!
Jano returns to the dome. SOBBING. Danny & Kirky, Danny & Davis WAILING SOBS, BRING HIM HOME
Bo's broken finger needs surgery too. EVERYBODY GETS A FREE SURGERY!
Vladdy ends the year with 199 hits, because we can't have nice things.
Sure sure, let's limp to the end of the season getting swept by the ... Marlins?!?

Notes:
Good capture of Halloween! This was filmed on the aisle so you can see some people getting up and walking around at times. LOTS of latecomers during ready set I had to get up to let people into the row, so there is no video there. The guy in front of me wouldn't stop moving so his head can come in and out of frame at times but it's always worked around.

Nice Capture of the new non-equity tour! There can be a head in the way at some points but it's worked around well. The video can be somewhat grainy at times due to how far I was + how dark the show was. Overall a great video of this incredible cast.

The Legacy of the Los Angeles Lakers: A Dynasty of Basketball Excellence
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most storied franchises in professional sports, boasting a rich history of success, legendary players, and unforgettable moments. Founded in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers, the team relocated to Los Angeles in 1960 and has since become a dominant force in the NBA, winning a total of 17 championships, tied for the most in league history with the Boston Celtics.
Early Years: The Minneapolis Dynasty
The Lakers’ early success began in the 1940s and 1950s, led by George Mikan, the NBA’s first dominant big man. Mikan’s imposing presence in the paint helped the Lakers capture five championships during their time in Minneapolis. Mikan’s impact on the game was so profound that he is often considered the league’s first true superstar, laying the foundation for the team’s long-term success.
Showtime Era: Magic, Kareem, and Fast Break Basketball
The Lakers’ most iconic era came in the 1980s under the leadership of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, orchestrated by head coach Pat Riley. Known as the “Showtime Lakers,” the team played a fast-paced, high-flying brand of basketball that captivated fans worldwide. Magic’s dazzling passing and leadership, combined with Kareem’s unstoppable skyhook, led the Lakers to five NBA championships during the decade, cementing their status as a basketball dynasty.
Rivalries with teams like the Boston Celtics, particularly their matchups with Larry Bird, defined the era and elevated the NBA’s popularity. The Lakers-Celtics rivalry in the 1980s remains one of the most intense in sports history, with the two teams meeting three times in the NBA Finals during the decade.
The Kobe and Shaq Era: Dominance of the 2000s
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Lakers once again reached the pinnacle of success with the pairing of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Coached by the legendary Phil Jackson, the team’s combination of Shaq’s dominance in the paint and Kobe’s scoring ability proved unstoppable. The Lakers won three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2002, and their dominance in this era was undeniable.
Despite their on-court success, tensions between Shaq and Kobe eventually led to Shaq’s departure in 2004. However, Kobe remained with the team and led the Lakers to two more championships in 2009 and 2010, earning Finals MVP honors both times. Kobe’s relentless work ethic and competitive spirit defined his era, and he became one of the most beloved figures in Lakers history.
Recent Success: The LeBron James Era
In 2018, the Lakers made a bold move by signing LeBron James, one of the greatest players of all time. LeBron’s arrival signaled the beginning of a new chapter for the Lakers, and in 2020, he led the team to their 17th championship. Alongside Anthony Davis, LeBron helped the Lakers navigate a difficult season that included the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant. The 2020 title not only tied the Lakers with the Celtics for the most championships in NBA history but also added another chapter to the franchise’s long-standing legacy of success.
The Lakers’ Global Impact
The Lakers are more than just an NBA team — they are a global brand. Known for their “Hollywood” appeal, the team has attracted some of the biggest names in basketball, including Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, and LeBron James. Their iconic purple and gold jerseys are recognized worldwide, and the franchise has an enormous fan base that extends far beyond Los Angeles.
Additionally, the Lakers have had a profound impact on basketball culture, influencing the style of play, shaping rivalries, and creating some of the most memorable moments in NBA history. Their tradition of excellence continues to inspire future generations of basketball players and fans alike.
The Los Angeles Lakers have built a legacy of greatness, filled with Hall of Fame players, numerous championships, and unforgettable moments. From George Mikan’s dominance in the early years to the Showtime Lakers of the 1980s, and the dynamic duo of Kobe and Shaq, to LeBron James leading the team in the present day, the Lakers have always been synonymous with success. Their commitment to winning and their global influence ensure that the Lakers’ place in basketball history will endure for generations to come.

It is fraught with twists and turns in a post Peak-Oil world, where society has finally found a solution to the resources of the planet. It's been 30 years since Disney's Angels in the Outfield came out in July-15-1994 and let me tell ya: it's a great movie! It's a story about a foster kid named Roger Bomman (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and his friend named J.P. (Milton Davis Jr.) who love the baseball team called Anaheim Angels (Los Angeles Angels in real life), even though they're the worst team in the major leagues. One word: RUDE! His estranged dad, Mr. Bomman (Dermot Mulroney), promises to reunite the family if the Angels make it to the World Series, so Roger asks for divine help and prays that his favorite team will turn things around. Soon, a real angel named Al "The Boss" Angel (Christopher Lloyd) shows up in response to Roger's prayers, and Anaheim's hopeless coach named George Knox (Danny Glover) is shocked to see his team on a winning streak.

74-75 Washington: In the inaugural year after changing the franchise name from the Capital Bullets to the Washington Bullets, Washington posted a franchise best record of 60–22 and won the Eastern Conference finals. This team featured All NBA selections Elvin Hayes and Phil Chenier, and the league’s best defense.
77-78 Portland: The Blazers started the season with a blistering 50-10 record, before a season-ending injury to league MVP, Bill Walton. Though Portland faltered the rest of the way, including the post-season, a healthy Walton instantly transforms this squad into one of the more formidable teams included in this set. Other key Blazers included Maurice Lucas, named to both the All-NBA and All-NBA defensive teams, and All-NBA Defensive selections Bob Gross and Lionel Hollins.
78-79 Seattle: The Supersonics avenged their previous year’s NBA Finals loss by defeating Washington in five games, winning their first and only NBA championship. Dennis Johnson was named the NBA Finals MVP and named to the NBA ALL-Defensive First Team. Other notable players on this defensive-minded squad included Gus Williams and Jack Sikma.
72-73 New York: The Knicks captured their second, and last (to date) NBA Championship, behind the play of a deep squad, including several Hall-of Famers: Walt Frazier, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, Dave DeBusschere, Willis Reed, and Bill Bradley.
72-73 Boston: The Celtics finished with a franchise record 68 wins, behind the play of league MVP Dave Cowens and First Team All-NBA selection John Havlicek. All-NBA defenders Paul Silas and Don Chaney, along with Cowens and Havlicek, led the top-ranked Celtics defense.
71-72 Los Angeles: This Laker team is widely regarded as one of the best all-time teams, finishing the regular season with a 69-13 record and capturing the NBA championship. The team’s 69 wins was an all- time record that would last for 25 years. The teams’ performance included a 33-game win streak, which still stands as all-time best. The 71-72 roster features NBA greats Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West.
70-71 Milwaukee: League and Playoff MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led the Bucks to a 66-16 regular season record and the franchise’s first NBA championship. Though a bit beyond his prime, Hall-of-Famer Oscar Robertson led the team in assists, and was second only to Abdul-Jabbar in minutes played and points. The Bucks won 20 straight games, good for fifth all-time.

Post-AGT Appearance 1295: George Davis KBXB 97.9 fm April 18
With Phillip out of a coma the matter of the last name on his sick list would again come to the fore. several baseball players have passed away recently and one of them: Whitey Herzog, would have been 80th on the first list of suspects, dropped to 81st in the first update, returned to 80th in the second update, sank a bit, rose to 80th again in 2017 and dropped out of the top 100 in 2020. Some people would be curious after his death. On Thursday morning I would be at my mother's house in Massachusetts, tending to her ailments when my agent would ask for a quote about Herzog. I would promptly reply and it would be released immediately on all websites. The first to quote me would be George Davis from radio station KBXB in Missouri. He hosts a classic country show from 10 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday. The station calls itself Freedom 97 and airs St. Louis Cardinals games. He would mention it just after 1 pm local time.
Davis: that was Missouri Misery, still a big hit around here. It's a little newer than most songs we play here, but it's by Phil Cole and we have an announcement about him. As you know he has a sick colleague named Phillip, who, I understand is feeling better since he heard that O. J. Simpson passed away last week. Well, he has a long list of folks who make him sick and some people around here have been wondering if Whitey Herzog, former coach of the Royals and Cardinals, might be the last mystery name on his list. Well, he just released a statement. I'll read it to you. It says:
PBC: No one on our team had any animosity against Whitey Herzog. Some of us were not so fond of Ken Holtzman though.
Davis: Well, that's all he says, but do you reckon it might be a baseball man on the list. It could be Pete Rose. Maybe it could be a Yankee. He's from Boston don't you know. Let's see: Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera maybe..or it could be one of them steroids guys, Canseco or Mark Maguire. Let's have some fun. You can call me or text me. Is there a baseball player who makes you just a little queasy in the stomach every time you hear his name.

The Legacy of West Point Academy's Football Dynasty
The legacy of the United States Military Academy at West Point stems from a rich tapestry of history, resilience, and excellence. Beyond its contributions to the nation's defense, West Point boasts a storied football tradition that intertwines with the academy's profound narrative.
Established in 1802, the academy's strategic location along the Hudson River played a pivotal role in American history during the Revolution. It remained an unyielding fortress, eluding capture even during the treacherous betrayal attempt by General Benedict Arnold.
The visionaries behind West Point sought to create an institution dedicated to warfare science and the development of military leaders. President Thomas Jefferson, despite initial opposition, acknowledged the necessity of such an academy for safeguarding the nation's interests and expanding its territories.
Under the stewardship of Major Sylvanus Thayer, known as the "Father of the Military Academy," West Point underwent significant transformations. Thayer raised academic standards, instilled military discipline, and established civil and military engineering as the foundation of the curriculum.
Throughout the 19th century, West Point graduates played pivotal roles in the country's development, contributing to infrastructure projects like the Panama Canal and assuming leadership positions in various conflicts, including the Civil War.
Post-Civil War, West Point continued its commitment to tradition, discipline, and excellence. Despite the austere atmosphere, the academy slowly integrated African-American cadets, albeit facing challenges like institutional prejudice and "silencing."
World War I showcased the bravery of West Point alumni, notably General John J. Pershing, who commanded the American Expeditionary Force in Europe. The war prompted curriculum modernizations to incorporate advancements in science and technology.
The interwar years saw a cadre of distinguished graduates who would become pivotal leaders in World War II, including Douglas MacArthur, George Patton, and Dwight Eisenhower. West Point alumni led the majority of significant ground and air units in the war.
In 1975, West Point welcomed women into its ranks, marking a pivotal moment in its history. The subsequent years witnessed a surge in diversity among the Corps of Cadets, fostering a more inclusive and representative academy.
Amidst this rich history, West Point's football legacy stands tall. The 1944 Army squad, under coach Earl "Red" Blaik, carved a football dynasty unparalleled in its dominance. Featuring talents like Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard, the team's extraordinary accomplishments and unbeaten streaks remain unmatched in college football history.
But greatness didn't rest solely in the past. The subsequent seasons, particularly in 1945, saw Army's football ascendancy continue. Led by stalwarts like Blanchard, Davis, and Arnold Tucker, they pursued a new dynasty. The 1945 squad embarked on a journey to match the previous year's feats, culminating in another national championship, validating their claim as one of the greatest teams in college football history.
The narrative of West Point's football triumphs extends beyond the World War II era. Though postseason bowl appearances became a rarity until 1984, when the team triumphed over Michigan State in the Cherry Bowl, it continued solidifying its legacy. Post-war periods saw the Army's Black Knights repeatedly showcasing their mettle in postseason battles, from the Peach Bowl victory over Illinois in 1985 to their resilience against Alabama in the 1988 Sun Bowl.
Even in later years, like the stirring 1996 Independence Bowl clash against Auburn, the Army's indomitable spirit persisted. Despite facing formidable odds, their tenacity and never-say-die attitude illuminated the field, leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of fans and foes alike.

Season previews: North Melbourne (17th)
Last season: 17th (3 wins, 20 losses, 71.5%) Notable ins: Colby McKercher (no. 2 draft pick), Zane Duursma (no. 4 draft pick), Zac Fisher (Carlton) Notable outs: Ben McKay (Essendon), Todd Goldstein (Essendon), Jack Ziebell (retired)
Similarly to fellow cellar dweller, West Coast, predictions of an improved North Melbourne are not matched by an expectation of a rise up the ladder. For a club that has failed to win more than four games in any of the past four seasons, there is a feeling that North Melbourne's attempted return to relevance is only now beginning after a series of false starts. It was reported in 2019 that when then coach Brad Scott suggested to the board the playing list was mediocre and in need of a rebuild, he was told they had already started rebuilding three years earlier and could not afford to do so again (referring to the year they moved on Nick Dal Santo, Brent Harvey and Drew Petrie among others). So Scott left and was replaced by Rhyce Shaw who coached only two seasons, who was succeeded by David Noble who coached even less than that, following which "the great white hope" Alastair Clarkson arrived and coached just nine games before needing extended personal leave. Exhausted? Spare a thought for someone like Curtis Taylor who has played for six senior coaches in five years on the list.
Clarkson eventually returned for four dead-rubber clashes at the end of 2023 but is finally enjoying clear air and a full pre-season with his young list and without the spectre of the Hawthorn racism scandal looming - at least for now. The coach would be looking at the talent North Melbourne have amassed in the last two national drafts and daring to dream... Could Harry Sheezel, George Wardlaw, McKercher and Duursma one day be looked back on as being as signficant a haul as Lance Franklin, Jarryd Roughead and Jordan Lewis were at the Hawks in 2005? Perhaps so but it has not all been blue skies overhead at Arden Street, given at the time of this writing Tarryn Thomas has been suspended for 18 matches by the AFL for abuse toward women and his contract finally torn up by the club. Thomas was a distraction the club could ill afford and a toxic presence it is better off without, despite desperately needing players of his considerable talent.
A side with so much youth needs leaders along every line to drive the standards off the field and provide direction on the field. The exits of Goldstein, Ziebell and Ben Cunnington will leave a leadership vacuum at North Melbourne even if their best football was clearly behind them and it remains a concern as to who will step up to fill it. Jy Simpkin, a co-captain, is one who has demonstrated loyalty to the club and resilience by managing 18 games in 2023 despite injuries. Nick Larkey, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Cam Zurhaar possess all the talent and have now moved into an age and experience profile where they should start to throw others on to their back and win the occasional game. It was a surprise to see Luke McDonald tapped to go around again as a co-captain given his lack of awareness, limited skill and a question mark on whether he would be in any other club's best 22.
The plan at North Melbourne for 2024 would be fairly simple: get games into their young guns, become harder to play and score against and put a stop to the blowout losses (despite being more competitive last year than in 2022, they still suffered seven 40-plus point defeats). It should not be beyond them to double the number of wins from three to six and demonstrate to their fans and the wider football world that after backfiring and stalling out a few times, the car is finally moving forward.
Déjà vu in the bottom four continues, next up is Hawthorn…
