79-80 Phoenix Suns: Phoenix achieved a franchise-best 55-27 record. Paul Westphal led the team in scoring, earning All-NBA First Team honors. Swingman and fellow All-star Walter Davis, along with Don Buse, Truck Robinson, and Alvin Adams provided key contributions to the team’s success.
71-72 Chicago: The Bulls finished a then-franchise best 57-25, behind a rugged defense led by Jerry Sloan and Norm Van Lier. The duo Chet Walker and Bob Love provided the scoring punch.
76-77 Denver: In Denver’s first year in the NBA, after merging from the ABA, the Nuggets won 50 games behind NBA All-Defense forward Bobby Jones and All-NBA guard David Thompson.
75-76 Cleveland: This historically significant season marked the Cavs’ first-ever winning record, their debut in the playoffs, and their advancement to the conference finals. Dubbed the “Miracle at Richfield,” this exceptional season prompted an overwhelming show of support from fans. Cleveland utilized a well-balanced attack, featuring seven players who averaged double digit scoring per game.
74-75 Buffalo: The Braves boasted a record of 49–33, which would endure for 37 years as the franchise’s winningest season. Bob McAdoo’s led the league in scoring with 34.5 points per game, earning him the MVP Award.
78-79 San Antonio: All NBA first teamer George “The Iceman” Gervin led the league in scoring and helped propel the team to a first-place finish in the NBA’s Central Division. The Spurs eventually bowed out of the playoffs, losing in the Eastern Conference Finals.
75-76 Golden State: This Warrior team won a then franchise best 59 games, a record that would not be surpassed for nearly 40 years. All- NBA selections Rick Barry and Phil Smith provided firepower and tenacity at both ends of the court.
79-80 Atlanta: The Hawks, coached by Hubie Brown, finished the NBA regular season in 1st place in the Eastern Conference Central Division with a 50-32 record, behind an impressive defense. Dan Roundfield was named to the All-NBA Second Team and all NBA-Defensive First Team, while guard Eddie Johnson was named to the NBA-Defensive Second Team.
79-80 Philadelphia: The 76’ers won 59 regular season games and advanced to the NBA finals. NBA legend Julius Erving, “Dr. J,” provided efficient scoring and dazzling athleticism as displayed in his famous baseline scoop move during the finals: Dr. J Baseline Scoop. All-NBA Defensive First Teamer Bobby Jones, along with Caldwell Jones and Maurice Cheeks, led a stout defense, ranked number one in the league.
74-75 Washington: In the inaugural year after changing the franchise name from the Capital Bullets to the Washington Bullets, Washington posted a franchise best record of 60–22 and won the Eastern Conference finals. This team featured All NBA selections Elvin Hayes and Phil Chenier, and the league’s best defense.
77-78 Portland: The Blazers started the season with a blistering 50-10 record, before a season-ending injury to league MVP, Bill Walton. Though Portland faltered the rest of the way, including the post-season, a healthy Walton instantly transforms this squad into one of the more formidable teams included in this set. Other key Blazers included Maurice Lucas, named to both the All-NBA and All-NBA defensive teams, and All-NBA Defensive selections Bob Gross and Lionel Hollins.
78-79 Seattle: The Supersonics avenged their previous year’s NBA Finals loss by defeating Washington in five games, winning their first and only NBA championship. Dennis Johnson was named the NBA Finals MVP and named to the NBA ALL-Defensive First Team. Other notable players on this defensive-minded squad included Gus Williams and Jack Sikma.
72-73 New York: The Knicks captured their second, and last (to date) NBA Championship, behind the play of a deep squad, including several Hall-of Famers: Walt Frazier, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, Dave DeBusschere, Willis Reed, and Bill Bradley.
72-73 Boston: The Celtics finished with a franchise record 68 wins, behind the play of league MVP Dave Cowens and First Team All-NBA selection John Havlicek. All-NBA defenders Paul Silas and Don Chaney, along with Cowens and Havlicek, led the top-ranked Celtics defense.
71-72 Los Angeles: This Laker team is widely regarded as one of the best all-time teams, finishing the regular season with a 69-13 record and capturing the NBA championship. The team’s 69 wins was an all- time record that would last for 25 years. The teams’ performance included a 33-game win streak, which still stands as all-time best. The 71-72 roster features NBA greats Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West.
70-71 Milwaukee: League and Playoff MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led the Bucks to a 66-16 regular season record and the franchise’s first NBA championship. Though a bit beyond his prime, Hall-of-Famer Oscar Robertson led the team in assists, and was second only to Abdul-Jabbar in minutes played and points. The Bucks won 20 straight games, good for fifth all-time.

2020-2021 NBA Season: Hoops Pro Basketball Game for the PC
The 2020-21 NBA Season is now available for the Hoops Pro Basketball PC game. The set contains 12 players for each NBA team, based on total minutes played.
The National Basketball Association’s 75th season featured a pandemic shortened 72 game schedule that started a mere 72 days after the 2020 finals.  The season was full on intrigue with many of the pre-season favorites falling short of expectations and some surprise teams making the playoffs.  Superstar Giannis “The Greek Freak” Antetokounpo led his Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA championship in 50 years by defeating the Phoenix Suns, led by ageless superstar Chris Paul and scoring-machine Devin Booker.   Both conferences feature several strong teams and outstanding play from longstanding superstars such as Lebron James, Bradley Beal, Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and James Harden while the up-and-coming generation of stars, including Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Zion Williamson provided glimpses of a promising and entertaining future.

Hoops NBA (80s Best) set
We’re excited to announce our first “special teams” set, containing 16 of the top teams from the 80s. The teams were selected by regular season win-loss record, point differential, strength of schedule, and proprietary rating systems.
1985-86 Boston Celtics: Led by possibly the best starting 5 in NBA history. Larry Bird took home his third consecutive MVP award, leading the Celtics to 67 wins and an NBA championship. Rounding out the five: Kevin McHale, Dennis Johnson, Robert Parish, and Danny Ainge.
1986-87 Los Angeles Lakers: Showtime in LA! Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Byron Scott and defensive player of the year Michael Cooper led the Lakers to 65 wins and an NBA championship.
1982-83 Philadelphia 76’ers: In the offseason after the 82 finals, the Sixers added hall-of-famer Moses Malone to an already loaded lineup featuring Dr. J, Maurice Cheeks, Andrew Toney, and Bobby Jones. Moses received MVP honors, leading the team to 65 wins and an NBA championship.
1988-89 Detroit Pistons: Tough, nasty, defensive-minded basketball was the name of the game for this Detroit team. Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, and Joe Dumars led the team to 63 wins and the NBA championship.
1985-86 Milwaukee Bucks: A strong Milwaukee team that won 57 games and outscored its opponents by a whopping 9 points per game. Balanced scoring and strong defense was key for this Bucks team. Featuring Sidney Moncrief, Terry Cummings, and Paul Pressey.
1986-87 Atlanta Hawks: “Human Highlight Film”, Dominique Wilkins, led the Hawks to 57 wins. Future coaching guru Doc Rivers ran the offense in marvelous fashion.
1988-89 Cleveland Cavaliers: The Cavs won 57 games, behind the balanced scoring of Mark Price, Brad Daugherty, Larry Nance and Ron Harper.
1989-90 Portland Trailblazers: Led by guards Clyde “The Glide” Drexler and Terry Porter, the Blazers won 59 games and made it to the NBA finals.
1989-90 Utah Jazz: “The Mailman” Karl Malone and legendary playmaker John Stockton led the Jazz to 55 wins and the Western Conference finals.
1988-89 Phoenix Suns: The fast-paced Suns, led by Kevin Johnson and Tom Chambers, led the league in scoring, won 55 games, and advanced to the Western Conference finals.
1986-87 Dallas Mavericks: A solid Dallas team that won 55 games; led by the high scoring tandem of Mark Aguirre and Rolando Blackman. Point guard Derek Harper and center James Donaldson provided defensive help.
1987-88 Chicago Bulls: League MVP Michael Jordan almost singlehandedly lifted the Bulls to 50 wins and a second-round playoff appearance. Though certainly not one of the best Bulls teams ever, any Jordan-led Bulls team will be competitive.
1981-82 Seattle Supersonics: Seattle won 52 games and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. The Sonics were led by All-Stars Jack Sikma and “The Wizard” Gus Williams.
1988-89 New York Knicks: Hall-of-Famer Patrick Ewing and All-Star Mark Jackson, along with offseason acquisition Charles Oakley, led the Knicks to 52 wins and the second round of the playoffs.
1982-83 San Antonio Spurs: George “The Iceman” Gervin, Mike Mitchell, and veteran Artis Gilmore led the Spurs to 53 wins and the Western Conference finals.
1987-88 Denver Nuggets: Doug Moe’s Nuggets were known for their frenetic pace, and this team was no exception. The Nuggets led the league in scoring and won 54 games. Featuring prolific scorer Alex English and do-it-all guard Lafayette “Fat” Lever.

Hoops Pro Basketball PC Game
Version 3 of the PC game is now available as a free upgrade to existing users.
Some of the highlights include:
Three point attempt fouls - Miss will award 3 free throws and a made 3 pointer will be awarded one free throw.
Coach sets Pace (last 6 minutes of Game) - slow the pace will reduce fastbreaks and speed the pace will cause a few more fastbreaks.
Call a play (last two (2) minutes of the game) - During a timeout, the option to call a play is available. It increases the chance that you get the ball to your desired player.
Conserve time during a timeout (last minute of game) - Essentially adds one more PAC to the game to possibly get that extra shot off.
Momentum - Momentum swings are tracked and will force timeouts for the team on the bad end of the stick. This makes timeouts more important and may hamper your ability to call a play or save time on the clock at the end of the game.
