Risk takers and rule breakers to the front. As Peter Kalmus has said, he and Rose Abramoff disrupted the AGU meeting that day because they “believe that climate scientists have a key role to play in breaking society out of the ’normalcy bias’ or bystander effect that still has most people thinking ’this is fine.’” I couldn’t agree with this objective more. And I see, in the price they have paid and the attention it has received, some small but perceptible movement toward it.
The bolder tactics of activism carry real risks—including for scientists the risk of eroded credibility as a widely-trusted messenger. Yet, the greater the risk, the greater the potential reward. If the reward is actually breaking society out of our collective trance and into a state of real, transformative action, what professional—and even personal—risk wouldn’t be worth it? Climate scientists, what would you risk for that reward?"

thinking about @immult's meta post regarding the end of episode 114. as you do. how vox machina is nice and happy with vax now and that they can have a lovely little "maybe the world is gonna end party" now that the bloody bridge is gone. except… except that leaves the question of the ruidians who weren’t soldiers who were effectively brainwashed into joining the settler-colonization of exandria.
well, now they’re doomed no matter what if predathos does crack open the moon like a shiny red egg. and fans are rooting for ruidus to get nuked. but i guess they’ve been marked as evil. even the rebels who hate their eugenicist leaders like gaz and rashinna, even the little kids that chetney gave toys to, even the ones who just wanted to try apples and strawberries, all of them have been marked as either worthy sacrifices or tainted by association with ludinus. and boy does that form a pattern.
bor’dor deserved to die! imogen should dropkick her mom into a spike pit while bh cheers her on! they deserve it for being so stupid to join a cult! people shouldn’t be upset with the gods for nuking aeor or not doing anything to stop avaliar from crashing! everyone in the age of arcanum was an egomaniac who loved hubris so they all had it coming! why should essek have to apologize or actually try to make amends for the countless people who were killed or enslaved in a war he kickstarted out of spite? that happened so long ago it’s basically ancient history! and he’s the nice quirky twinky bestie of the nein!
see the disconnect? why is it suddenly a bad, awful thing when the hells "make a choice for everyone else" regarding the gods when you had zero problems with all the other parties doing it or them taking out people that "deserved" to die?
#🍃#critical role#critrole#cr spoilers#i do think also that there is something to be discussed about immigration vs colonization esp with north america#via climate change/regime changes/mass evac from western backed coups etc...#but that is a post for another day. so in the meantime!#i hope bh gets access to the wish spell and they use it to bring back bor'dor so he can have a new life

If you watch any video at all today, I really recommend watching this one.
This person discusses where we (as a global whole) are at right now with climate change, and some impacts I agree that most all people will experience in the next 5-15 years. Obviously that doesn't sound super cheery, but I personally found the presentation truthful without fear-mongering, and relieving because I have been having sharing these thoughts with my own personal circle for at least a year now. You are not alone and we need to be having these conversations.
#ecopunk#solarpunk#india#heatwave#climate change#xan talks a lot#we need to be realistically discussing our future and what it may look like#because if we dont we will be caught unaware and have less ability to shape it

at a certain point some people need to realise it’s not enough. they need to realise that they should feel some slight guilt for how much useless things they consume or how much plastic they throw out or how much meat or dairy they eat. at a point you have to look in the mirror and actually ask yourself if it’s necessary. capitalism is an evil system that thrives off of your human condition to feel guilt for your actions. it wants you to feel like the problem. however, that doesn’t execute individual responsibility. that doesn’t mean you don’t have to try. you are responsible for your actions and frankly if you don’t feel a bit bad about wasting money on something harmful, that’s concerning. you don’t get to say ‘no ethical consumption under capitalism’ and then do exactly what capitalism wants you to do. you should feel bad for unnecessarily consuming unethical products because you have a responsibility to be kind to others, not because you’re responsible for climate change and so on. you have a duty to give a fuck about others
#my post#bit of a rant-y post sorru#i’m just sick of seeing posts like ‘it’s okay if you buy fast fashion no ethical consumption blah blah’#like unless you’re really broke then no! it’s not fucking okay and you should feel bad about it i’m sorry!!#you should feel bad about doing unnecessary bad-ness#no you aren’t responsible for the climate changing actions of billionaires#but you are responsible for community. you’re a human. you SHOULD feel bad knowing you’re harming others thru your actions#and of course this is a very very very nuanced discussion#if you need to make unethical choices to live then you do it#survival is important and i will throw punches at people who shame you for that#it only becomes a problem when it’s not necessary#vegan#veganism#go vegan#climate crisis#climate change

final chapter of this 'wish it were worse so i could just stop reading' book [ATLANTIC - SIMON WINCESTER - NOT RECOMMENDED 👎] manages to be the most interesting it's been all 400 pages while maintaining the infuriation level. i think it's sooooo important to read books you disagree with it helps exercise your mental muscles and hurghenilgjf *dropkicks book across room*
#we've moved on from 'colonialism was bad because it was crudely violent also i'm not going to discuss anyone aside from colonizers'#to Le Both Sides 'climate change is real (mandatory smug aside that plenty of scientists disagree that industry is responsible)'#i bought this when it came out in nineteen dickety two#i'm trying to read the handful of books i own but never read#moving name of the rose up ahead of house of leaves#because i suspect i will still not enjoy house of leaves (prose issue; structure's fine by me)#and if i let the good:bad ratio dip that far my brain will dissolve like a shrimp left too long in a pineapple marinade

What kinda roses you got growing/how's the fur growing in?
thanks for the interest! i havent gotten to talk about my plants in a bit especially.
i really cant remember the exact fancy names of which roses ive grown, but theyre hybrid modern ones. i have pale orange & pale yellow bushes growing - i tried to plant white ones this year but i chose a bad spot and the Sun Rays of Death we've got this summer completely obliterated it.
as for my fur - ohh, it's been doing well! im very proud of my body hair this past year even if i dont really think it's prominent enough yet for anyone to notice without paying a lot of attention.
heres my belly before (left) vs now
heres my facial hair my first day using minoxidil/before testosterone (left) vs now (right & bottom, bottom is a month or so ago but still works for comparison)
there's a lot more - basically every part of me is furry right now, but im not comfy posting every part of me - but those are some highlights. i know it's hardly anything to others, but it means the world to me. and i hope one day to have a very big beard and even more body hair - ill just keep not shaving for forever and see where it gets me.
thanks for taking an interest, i really do appreciate it a lot! 💚
#van speaks#asks#roses#flowers#gardening#operation bearification#ulfhetnar#god i rarely ever get to talk about my gardening these days esp since climate change was fucking DISASTROUS down here#but i really love discussing it

#when my dad would drive me to and from boarding school during breaks we would be in the car for 3 hours and talk about the same thing#almost the whole time#and one time it was just memes#we had a discussion about meme culture#and the spread of information#and how various memes reflect the general state of my generation#i didn't have the words for it then but i think the main point i managed to get across was#gen z grew up hearing from millenials about how shit everything was. we didn't even have a chance at optimism#and it reflects in a lot of the jokes. gallows humor fr#and that's something my father and people his age could never really understand. being bombarded by so much awful information so young#i remember lying in bed at night not being able to sleep at 10 years old over climate change#having a panic attack over the presidential results in 2016#apathy builds from that#and it shows in online culture#as much as it shows in real life#out of context comments

did you know you can drive your local stem major to scream under their desk if you assign questions that act like they don’t know how to read a scientific article
#i know there are people in the lab who maybe can’t or don’t do it as well but i CAN and i need you to LET ME OUT#‘find where they discuss climate change’s roll in their results. what do they say’ well it’ll probably be in the paragraphs under the#section in the discussion called ‘role of climate change’ and the four paragraphs under it that are very clear#losing it it’s fine

just this morning an older guy i met in the fields walking his dog tried to argue with me that climate change isn't real and then tonight i read this ft article on how bad it's getting and it just makes me cry
#i was so mad this morning when this old guy brought up the discussion totally unwarranted and i just left because i didn't have the energy#but now i just feel defeated because like sure he's probably living a nice life pretending climate change isn't real#i get why ppl deny it. it's just easier. even if that may sound belittling... maybe it is a bit#but it also makes me feel so defeated. because humans are so resistant to change and the systems are so slow and unmovable#idk maybe i'm being pessimistic but there's no other way to be about this i think. even the most optimistic outlooks are bleak#climate change#emma talks
