"John Wick" movies are made just for me. I mean, me specifically. Not only is the action spectacular, but the casting is seemingly catered specifically to my niche interests: "Oh look, it's Sully from Commando as Charlie the Cleaner! What a fun little 80s character he would play!" "Oh look, here's Ian McFuckingShane as the boss of the hotel, basically his character from 44 Inch Chest!" "Oh look, Mark Dacascos from Drive as a fan boy ninja who runs a sushi shop, and whose apprentices are the guys from The Raid and The Raid 2. Man, I am so happy people are going to see why he is cool!" "Oh look, it's Brian Butterfield as The Sommelier, what a wonderful use of Peter Serafinowicz!" "Oh look, it's Clancy Brown as the Harbinger: the most Clancy Brown name, character description, and part he could possibly play. FINALLY we're getting big budget roles worthy of that man. And his beard." "Oh sweet! John Leguizamo is in this being a fucking badass! More of this Leguizamo please, I want to see him as the lead in a revenge thriller!" "Oh look, it's Lance Reddick!" (RIP King) I remember showing the first one to my friend, who also shares my niche movie interests and watched the same videotapes I had, and he basically went: "What the fuck is he doing here?!" When David Patrick Kelly, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo and Willem Dafoe showed up. When the credits rolled, his only words were: "The one thing I EXPECT Peter Stormare to show up in, and he doesn't. Amazing." A week later Peter Stormare was cast in "John Wick: Chapter 2" I took my girlfriend to see 4 in the cinema and kind of annoyed her with how hyped I was for Scott Adkins getting a big budget blockbuster movie, and by the end of it (after going: "Oh look, it's Natlia Tena as a Gopnik Punk!" amongst other things), when we had recovered, she admitted that he was fucking great. This movie series is letting a new audience appreciate some actual fucking legends, and let people go nuts.

I don’t know who decided to cast Shohreh Aghdashloo and Clancy Brown as a married couple, but BLESS THEM WITH ALL THE BLESSINGS. Beautiful performances, and those voices. I just want to listen to them speaking Farsi all day. And between this and The Expanse, the word “motherfucker” is Shohreh’s at this point. Just give her the trademark already.

Here we go again
Tumblr media
For fucks sake, really?
Do those motherfuckers know their own language definitions?
Some people use son as a form of address when they are showing kindness or affection to a boy or a man who is younger than them. Even Clancy Brown had planty of movies in which his character called other younger characters "son" and it meant nothing, just a way of addressing. Same is here. Lord, if that's their only argument, they're literally failing at character analysis. And it really IS the only argument.

Thoughts on The Boys, episodes 2 and 3:
Episode 2:
Huh. Guess I have to watch The Wire.
Will Ferrell? What are you doing here
Guess they couldn’t have Clancy Brown play the coach
He played the coach, right
Oh hey, he’s back!
You don’t know the half of his low point
“sensitivity readers” and how many of those did you hire?
hahahaha
he’s gonna be fun
“braindead maniac” does describe the comic version
Of course
Don’t take anything they give you
Oh, it’s his mom that’s doing that stuff
Far from “wee” Hughie.
wait who’s this guy playing the boyfriend, I feel like I’ve seen him before
Oh he was the original Dove on Titans, that makes sense
she has a speech therapist?
I love her so much
Oh dear
Fuck off, Butcher
Oh no, they’re making a movie about Ryan
“Homeboy” oh no
Anakin too
This man says volumes with his face
again, I love Sage
Ashley changed her look! I forgot when she ditched the bangs
Oh ouch
Do you not know what the word solo means
That’s the exact wrong advice to give him
Is she 32?
oh she’s a decade older. I see.
Is that the right idea?
What are they doing
Ryan is not a good actor
Using the Captain America line, I see.
Yikes.
He’s gonna go on a power trip
Damn, really?
I want Kimiko’s jacket
Nothing like free hotel breakfast
Oh no, these weirdos are flat earthers too?
“Starlight is a lizard person” jesus
not the minion memes
oh they are calling him Dakota Bob
“soldier boy held captive by the CIA” well he’s being held captive by someone
fuck, they’re climate change deniers too?
“soldier boy + liberty= secret lovers?” I mean, maybe
gosh there’s so much here.
“stormfront is alive” the fuck she is
“tinfoil hat wearing nazi motherfuckers” correct!
Kimiko are you okay
you can tell this was filmed in 2022 because that’s the year before last’s baja blast
hahaha these guys believe delaware isn’t real?
“alt-Supe”
How dare you come for Tom Hanks
NO
god, Frenchie doesn’t believe in the moon landing?
Kimiko!
omg I love her
CUE TOM CARDY’S RED FLAGS
Hey!
Yeah, you should go to the hospital
So glad that he didn’t mean that
Thank you, Hughie
Haven’t seen him in a while
Clovergenders?
The political commentary on this show is too real.
Hahaha I love her
So like conspiracy theorist Jubilee.
YES GIRL
A-Train redemption? That would be nice.
Let him have his moment, man.
YIKES
He’s gonna have to work on his restraint
Kimiko are you okay
Firecracker said “fuck the French” I guess
She’s not gonna do it
That’s like 3 references in one
Drown his ass in the chocolate fountain
“Zionist cabal” NO
Goddamn
Run, bitch!
Hughie cheering on his girlfriend I love them so much your honor
oh hey she’s back!
Go off, Hughie
ooooh Kimiko what are you doing
Episode 3
This is not going to go well.
Also look how few Starlight supporters there are compared to the Homelander supporters
Fuck off
“they want to get rid of superheroes” and what do they think Starlight is, then?
What has she actually said?
There are not seven of them.
I do really like those suits
Oh good, Butcher seems to be doing the right thing
SHE’S ANTI-VAX TOO?
gosh, I do kind of hope she doesn’t believe all of this and is just looking up what will cause the most controversy and clicks. Would be funnier if she was a true believer though.
She’s not wrong
He is that petty
“make a sandwich out of her”
Guess we know Starlight says trans rights, good for her
I’m sure he’s gonna try
Just let him go into the basement and see there are no kids in there.
Well, then she’s gonna be out of a job
Love how The Masked Singer hasn’t changed here
Eyyy kimiko’s a hacker good for her
Kimiko and Helena would be great friends
I love Hughie wearing a dolly parton shirt
Maeve didn’t blow a dude
as far as I know
oh this is fun
“dodgy incel” he’s not wrong
Oh, his voice is changing
That’s fuckin’ brutal.
I’m obsessed with her
do I like Ashley now?
She is a girlboss
gosh, this song
Ryan!
It is clearly not nothing
He also helped take down Stormfront
Not wrong on any of those counts
MM is a great character
You two should hide
Oh yikes
Not the best thing to see
Get your head in the game
Oh hey, it’s Nina
Glad Butcher threw those away
Why did she end that sentence with a question if she wasn’t lying
You said she would be fine!
Ashley are you alright
Yes, go after her, queen
What is a dinosaur doing on her poster
Oh damn, Annie as a bully
She is better
Hasn’t she been traumatized enough
Oh no this is very out of date
also how dare they use Maeve’s image for this
OMG THE BOOK OF MORMON GUY
Hughie can chill.
There’s no way the vents are that big
Oh no
Hughie get out of there
“critical supe theory” I think that is just known as the works of Garth Ennis and a few other authors here in the real world, ma’am
Is Stan dead? I can’t remember
How did Homelander know
Hughie’s sweat is going to get him hurt
YIKES
Well they’re not performing that show anytime soon
Yeah, listen to her
You can try
And how would you do that?
why is she watching reality TV
Is he really?
Oh no
Stop talking about how people smell, Homelander
“gave you everything that I ever wanted” oh that was pointed
oh hey mirror Homelander is back
What start?

Why Crash Twinsanity is a masterpiece
I like the direction they took with the gameplay in this game. The non-linear design is a nice change of scenery, and there's a ton of variety. No two levels are exactly the same.
Killer soundtrack. I didn't think you could make an entire video game soundtrack entirely a capella, but they made it work.
Significantly less Coco content, but we do get to see her kick Cortex in the "crystals," which more than makes up for it.
On a similar note, SO MUCH CORTEX CONTENT. This is Cortex's game. You get to unlock him as a playable character, a lot of the story is focused on him, and this is the debut of Lex Lang in the role. While I liked Clancy Brown's "menacing evil villain" take well enough, Lex Lang's expressiveness really adds to the character
The cutscenes are a lot more fleshed out than in previous games. I've been watching playthroughs of the main series Crash games in order and seeing the storytelling develop as the series progresses, and these cutscenes are definitely more interesting (and hilarious) to watch than just seeing characters talk directly to Crash.
The one cutscene where Uka-Uka says "I don't know whether to kiss you or KILL YOU!" and Crash leans in for a kiss. Love this man.
N Gin does this:
Tumblr media
Best N Gin moment so far.
N Tropy enters his portion of the boss fight T-posing. Immaculate.
Cortex leaves Crash to moor the airship. A few minutes later, we see the airship flying over the school dragging a bus beneath it. What were you expecting to happen, Cortex?
Cortex shooting levels go pew pew pew.
SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT:
A Motherfucking SPYRO APPEARANCE? I had no idea video games referenced each other like that.
Nina's grappling move looks cool, and the fact that you use it in the final boss looks even cooler.
Surprise twist: Crash shows up with a mecha.
We get confirmation that Crash just has a bunch of dancing Crashes inside his head. Explains a lot, actually.
Overall, 10/10 would recommend. Next is Crash of the Titans. After this amazing experience, I'm worried that it won't hold a candle.

Detroit Become Human Thoughts - Spoilers
Playing through Detroit is a very different experience to Heavy Rain. By and large I find myself impressed more on a technical level than an emotional one. The story is familiar, an allegorical civil rights that is seen in countless sci-fi and fantasy media, albeit one that leans more heavily than usual on real life civil rights imagery and iconography. The familiarity is not necessarily a fault, there is plenty of room for DBH among the genre, fitting comfortably alongside X-men and I,Robot etc. However, the choice to overtly homage aspects of civil rights history is little uncomfortable at times, given that the game largely doesn’t acknowledge it. Aside from one POC character late in the game, no one ties the androids struggle together with that of real world minority groups, which means the decision to cast a large number of these deviant androids POCs doesn’t always sit well, particularly when their fate is frequently in the hands of a white character for better or worse. This being said, it is not every game’s duty to cover all issues, but it does ring a little false when a game telling this particular type of story seems unwilling to recognise the link, content to leave it as subtext even when innocent POC characters are gunned down by police and others kept as literal slaves by white characters.
Equally Kara’s story is very hard to watch at times, when it seems each successive incident gets worse and worse. David Cage has come under fire for the way women are treated in his games before, but to be fair to him, in HR I largely felt it fit with both the tone and genre of the game. Yes, the women in the story get into horrible situations but also by and large have their own agency and agendas. The violence was schlocky, but in an old school thriller way, it didn’t feel too gratuitously out of place. In DBH it feels like Kara goes from horror to horror with little reprieve. She also has very little agency compared with the other player characters. Even when she breaks free from her programming, she is only able to shoot Todd by accident in self-defence (when I quite happily would have gunned that motherfucker down) after he slaps the gun out of her hands. Again, child abuse and domestic violence are important issues which can and should be discussed, but the portrayal feels exploitative rather than meaningful.  Compare this with the scene where Markus drags his broken body through the junkyard; this too is a horrific scene, however it’s one that fits well in the context. It’s a complete whiplash from Markus’ treatment by Carl and is a pure nightmare to navigate, but it punches you in the gut with how androids are treated and gives an immediate sense of “this is what we are fighting for” and Markus’ climb out of the pit is a triumphant moment. Kara doesn’t really get any of those triumphant moments, merely evading or escaping, sometimes very narrowly, though admittedly does get the more heartwarming moments too, though much later in the game.
Having said all of this, these issues with the story largely fade away heading into the final third. The game becomes both more interesting and whether it becomes less problematic or just feels that way because I was becoming more wrapped up in the story I’m not sure, but my feelings towards the end of the game towards the game as a whole were much warmer than the earlier chapters. Equally, to be fair to Quantic Dream, the arguable “lead” character is a POC android and is the driving force of the game, along with a number of other strong supporting POC characters. I also don’t think any of the missteps come from a place of malice, I believe DBH is earnestly trying its best to be inclusive and the fact that it ended up telling its story a little clumsily in this regard should not be a damning indictment of the game, but a call to try and improve next time.
I’ve also gone a long time without talking about my favourite character pairing: Connor and Hank. I should take a moment to say that all the main player actors perform admirably, Valorie Curry’s quietly resolved Kara, Jesse Williams plays Markus (at least in my run) with a determined understated performance which nonetheless has a commanding presence which makes you believe he’d be able to lead an android rebellion. However, it’s Bryan Dechart – funnily enough the only one of the three I’d not seen previously in TV or film – who has the most captivating performance. In part This may partly be due to his story being a more straightforward detective/thriller story, one the writing team has more experience with crafting, but Dechart’s efforts certainly elevate it portraying Connor with subtlety and nuance, accompanied by a surprisingly soulful turn from Clancy Brown. The prologue featuring Connor – also released as a demo – was the reason I picked up the game, as it hit that sweet spot which I subsequently found in HR of narrative and gameplay synergy. Clinically collecting evidence in order to talk down a hostage taking android, each clue providing more options to negotiate.
Speaking of the gameplay, by and large, the QTEs involved in DBH are less immersive than those of HR, none provoke the same visceral sensation that the trials did, or the instinctual gunshot, or even the cathartic shootout. The fight scenes have improved though and do feel more immediate and better choreographed - understandable, given the superhuman nature of the androids. I do also appreciate the newer mechanics like the investigation sequences - more involved and detailed than those found in the Batman: Arkham series – and the “route planner” style puzzles.
I also very much applaud DBH for allowing the android revolution storyline to be played entirely pacifistically or violently; were this a movie, the characters may begin peacefully, but become violent and vengeful after an inciting incident, but pleasingly DBH never takes that choice away from you. Equally heartening is the statistics at the end of each level, showing that the majority of players usually choice the peaceful choice. The choices in general are frequent and more gradual, creating a slow burn approach that allows you to waver and change your mind. My Connor was very much undecided through most of the game, wavering between deviancy and the mission, emotion and logic. These smaller choices work very well in keeping you invested in the characters and slowly building up the picture.
I’m very nearly at the end now, hoping I don’t mess it up as badly as I did in HR.

This will be a looong ask but here i go which of the following games do u know and what do u think about them Ddlc- the last of us -fatal frame- detroit become human-beyond two souls-life is strange-until dawn-wolf among us-uncharted-game of thrones-heavy rain-resident evil7-among the sleep-yandere simulator-blackwood crossing
Me reading this : "haha this Ask isn't long at a- oh... I see what you mean" lmao.DDLC: Really unique and great visual novel. I admire it's technique of messing around with your game files and how it portrays it's horror element. Very unlike a lot of other visual novel games. Feels like the game version of Madoka Magica with it's cutesy vibe turned dark.TLOU: I'm not obsessed with the game like many are, but it definitely deserves the praise it gets and I love the writing and characters. I'm intrigued to see what happens in the sequel.Fatal Frame: OMG YOU GAVE ME FLASHBACKS TO PLAYING THESE GAMES AS A KID. I don't care if some of it hasn't aged well. Fatal Frame will always be a great horror game series close to my heart. One of the few horror games that actually scared me.Detroit Become Human: I know it gets a lot of criticism but I personally love it. Hank and Connor is probably my favourite story just because I am a sucker for buddy cop duos and I love Hank Anderson as a character (it's motherfucking Clancy Brown!), plus I like games that let me act like a detective. The other two storylines are also pretty great in their own right as well though.Beyond Two Souls: Ehhhh it was okay. Probably my least favourite David Cage game tbh. Did appreciate seeing Willem Dafoe in the game though lol LIS: Okay so this is the one that might get me lynched by a lot of people... I DO like Life is Strange. Buuut I really don't love it or praise it highly like a lot of people do. The ending kinda annoyed me and even though I've tried - I just find it hard to like Chloe Price as a character (did like her more in the DLC though). The voice acting kinda took me out of the immersion a lot as well even if I could handle the cheesy dialogue.Until Dawn: I really loved this game. Just a fun horror all around and gave me Cabin in the Woods vibes which I dig. Also appreciate the unique spin on using wendigos as the monster - something that isn't really some often.Uncharted: I never enjoyed a platformer game as much as this one. The characters are fun and I overall had a great time playing it.TWAU: Really loved it and I've always been a fan of the Fables comics as well as detective noir stories and fairytales in general, so it was bound to appeal to me. I kinda wish they kept the original concept for the villain, but I still love it. Really one of Telltale's best works.Heavy Rain: I don't think it holds up, but I remember loving this game when it first came out and Norman Jayden was my favourite character to play.GOT: "Eh" it was okay. I'm kinda indifferent to it tbh.Resident Evil 7: SURPRISED ME BY HOW GOOD IT WAS. I'm a massive Resident Evil fan and wasn't expecting this game to be a great as it was. But I was gladly surprised.Among the Sleep: I remember liking this game. I caught onto where the story was going earlier on but it was still a nice trip.Yandere Simulator: Oof let's not go there. I thought it showed promise at first but I've dropped the game at this point because I find it hard to support Yandere Dev for all the shit he has been doing (and I'm not referring to his past). I honestly doubt that game will ever be finished in all honesty. Seems like he is just trying to draw things out as much as possible by making random videos on potential content to make it look like a lot of development is going on so he can get that Patreon money at the end of the day.Blackwood Crossing: Never played it but it looks interesting.
