This was courtiers’ garb, rich and soft, though evidently cut for the use of another. Beautiful garments with little purpose, and, Montjoy thought, unlikely to hold together long if they were called upon to face the wear of the road. Henry did not intend to dress him as a servant, even one who acted as prince among messengers, but as a lord — the finely woven linen was terribly soft against his skin, and the hands that secured each lacing were careful indeed.

Tim Burton's original Nightmare before Christmas poem.

The animated special, How the Grinch stole Christmas (the 1966 version) was on TV tonight. It's narrated by horror icon Boris Karloff.

An interesting bit of trivia is Boris Karloff is accidentally miscredited as being the singer of "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch."

The real singer is Thurl Ravenscroft. Thurl Ravenscroft is the original voice of Tony the Tiger for Frosted Flakes commercials (Frosties in the UK). With the slogan "They're greeeeeeat!"

Thurl Ravenscroft is also the singer of Grim Grinning Ghosts from the Disney Haunted Mansion ride.

Thurl Ravenscroft was not credited for singing "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" on the end credits of the animated special by mistake. The very next day the studio put out a public apology to him in a major newspaper but the credits were never corrected.

Anyway, since How The Grinch Stole Christmas was on tonight I thought I might as well share this.

This is Tim Burton's original Nightmare before Christmas poem / short story. Tim Burton actually wrote this back in 1982 / 1983 while working for Disney as an animator and since he was working for Disney at the time they held the rights to anything he created while working for them.

The story would not be published in book form until 1993 when Tim Burton's story / poem would also be adapted into a stop motion animated musical.

When Tim Burton's original story finally was published it was also fully illustrated by Tim Burton and resembled a Dr. Seuss book.

Years later that poem and illustrations were used to create the SECOND animated adaptation of Nightmare before Christmas.

That's right. There are technically two animated versions of Nightmare before Christmas.

This animated version was a bonus feature on the 10th anniversary Nightmare before Christmas DVD and it was narrated by horror icon, Christopher Lee much like how Boris Karloff narrated How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Christopher Lee is one of Tim Burton's favorite old horror actors, who appeared in the Tim Burton movies, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, and Dark Shadows.

So here you go. An extra Christmas special, an alternate version of Nightmare before Christmas (a much simpler version) narrated by Christopher Lee.

“It’s too small Riley.”  

“No it’s not.  It will work.”  

Liam laughed softly.

“Love no it won’t.”  

He gently kissed her cheek.  “I know how much you enjoy our private dining room, but it just won’t work for this holiday, it’s simply too many of us.  The table seats ten.”  

“And your point is?”  

“Riley, there’s more than ten of us.   Me, you and the kids, that’s six people right there.  Maxwell, Taylor, and the twins, Leo and his girlfriend, Hana, and her guest, Drake and Molly didn’t officially confirm, but they could drop by and you invited Nico, Ana, Nic, and Iris, when you found out Bertrand and Savannah would be in the states.  And everyone has dogs.  How are we going to fit all those people in our private dining room?  String them from the ceiling like bats? As amusing as that would be? Could  you imagine Maxwell as a bat? Baxwell?”

Riley laughed at Liam’s impersonation of Bat Maxwell.

“I guess you’re right Liam.”  He slipped his arms around her, pulling her close, planting a soft kiss on the tip of her nose.

“I know you feel like the royal dining room lacks that family intimacy at times, but I promise you when everyone is in there, and the kids are screaming and laughing and the dogs are barking, it will feel just like you need it to.”  

“Thank you for understanding how important this is to me.”

“It’s become just as important to me now .  These are the kinds of traditions I always wanted within my family,  that we never did, but now that you’re my family. We get to share these with our children, so that maybe one day they’ll start their own traditions with their children.”

“It’s like my parents and my brother are still alive.”  

“They are Riley, in your heart.”

Nico  had gotten the page to meet in the War Room, when he walked in he was surprised to see several other guards and King Liam.

“Glad you could join us as well, Nico.”  

“I live to serve the crown, Your Majesty.”  He glanced around the room, Bastien stood next to  Christopher, who was going to be his replacement as he was planning on retiring from the Guard in the new year.  Nico had thought for a brief moment that he would become the head of the KingsGuard, but him having to step away during the grieving period for Nicolai had pretty much sealed his fate. He noticed that he was amongst several upper level guards. Nico, Christopher, Tomas, and Bastien were the only Centurion Guards in the room, guards that had personally protected the King and Queen at one time or another.  So he knew whatever was being assigned was of the utmost  importance to the King.

“We gathered you all here today because, Bastien has assured me, and from my own personal experience, you are the best of the Kings Guardsmen, and the only ones I would trust with what I care about most in this world, my family.  Crown Princess Eleanor is going on an overnight field trip with her Archeology class to the forgotten falls and the ruins, and I need one of you in this room to accompany her.”

Nico leaped from his seat as if it was on fire.

“I volunteer.”

“Actually Nico I was thinking….”

“With all due respect Your Majesty, I know you pulled me from being Queen Riley’s Guard due  my inability to handle it amongst my grief for my son’s death, and I understand why.  The Queen and your children are the most important people in your life, and I understand that all too much.  But I can’t regain my position, if you don’t trust me again.  Give me the chance.  I will protect Crown Princess Elle….Eleanor.  I will not let you down. I will protect her with my life.”  

“Okay Nico.  This is your chance.”  

Liam’s Study

“You called for me, Father?”  

“Yes I did Eleanor.”  

Nico glanced at her when she walked into the room.  Ellie looked surprised for a moment and a little nervous for a second.   The voice in her head whispered, “He knows.”  

“What is this about Father?” She inquired trying to keep her voice level and calm.

“I need to talk to you about something.”

“Alright?”  She glanced at Nico.  He stood there, his eyes fixed on King Liam, his body stationary in his guard stance.

“This is regarding your class trip to the Falls and the Ruins.  We’re permitting you to go, but I don’t want you going with the group transportation.  I want you to have one of the Guardsmen to accompany you.  Nico will accompany you on the trip.  You need to start feeling comfortable traveling with a Guard. Your own personal guard.  When you go to college, you’ll have a team of guards with you.  And I want you to be comfortable.”

“So may I drive my car Father?”

“No you may not, but Nico can drive your vehicle, if he’s okay with that. It has the same protection as one of the Crown’s SUVs.”  

“If that’s how the Crown Princess would like to travel, we can drive her vehicle there.”  

“Thank You Nico.”
