I love the way spider wasps move. They always look like they're playing at 2x speed.
A lot of insects are very clean creatures and groom themselves like a cat. I rescued this wasp from the pool, so it had extra work to do.

Helen Norville - A Woman Who Can Laugh! Even at herself! 😉
.
.
Who else cannot stop smiling watching Helen watch a comedian parody her on the telly? Her cackles were so joyous and infectious, and demonstrates the good humoured nature, when she’s in the mental health headspace to support it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Helen’s impressionist is played by Nicolette Minster, and didn’t Nicolette give it her all! She nailed Helen’s on-camera brashness and exaggerated Helen’s volatility to the extreme, which thankfully Helen was flattered and delighted by!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The late 1980s and early 1990s was an incredible period of time for women on Australian comedy television, lovingly parodying other women in the media. Over at The Big Gig on the ABC, Jean Kittson brought to life her character of Veronica Glenhuntly; very clearly inspired by the ABC newsreader Mary Delahunty. Some of Nicolette’s body language whilst playing Helen also reminds me of Jean’s very wild and loose flight attendant character too. I met Jean in 2018 at my local library!

Turn over to Fast Forward on Seven, and a certain actress was doing her lions share of female media personality parodies; Ms Marg Downey, our very own Evelyn Walters! Marg was a small screen star during this time, and a household name. Her hilariously deadpanned performances as the SBS Lady demonstrated just what an extraordinary talent she is. As each season went along, the SBS Lady’s movements became more stiff, to the point where Marg wouldn’t even blink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout her time on Fast Forward and The D Generation, she also parodied journalist Jana Wendt. The drawl of her voice, the hand up to her cheek and the tilt of her head made her look and sound frightfully like Ms Wendt. In a 60 Minutes piece from 1989, Mike Munro showed Wendt Marg’s impersonation, and Ms Wendt was that impressed that she gave Marg a rating of a “good solid eight and a half” out of ten! Looks like our Marg was a talent to be reckoned with even in the real 1980s!
Have you seen Marg’s impression of Jana Wendt? If you haven’t, treat yourself to a viewing session on YouTube and see for yourself how incredible Marg has always been!

Fun sketches below!

I've been drawing so much TMNT. I want to share some of the stuff I've been working on. I'm almost done watching 87 and 03 and just wow!!! I love these turtle boys so much. I noticed in 03 now that I've finished fast-forward and I'm starting on back to the sewers that Raphael got so unfairly tall compared to his big bro I just HAD to draw Leo realizing it.
I also am writing a fun idea that involves turtles and tots. There will be much found family goodness to come. You'll see. ;)

so a few days ago on my mikey side blog i made a post about how i thought it would be fun and silly if mikey got a job in fast forward and
Tumblr media
here’s the cast lineup so far
i just picked some of the aliens to be D’Bohra/Deborah and Kkarl! modified D’Bohra’s outfit a bit so she looks a little classier. she’s a respectable woman after all
mikey’s only change is his vest and cap (color subject to change). i’m an OK K.O fan so vests are just an inherent uniform trait. the cap is so he matches Kkarl :]
don’t go into the notes of the above linked post if you don’t wanna hear me rambling about my ideas and possibly get spoiled!!

Other movies I've actually genuinely fast-forwarded through (seriously, not joking):
Boyhood.
Ken Park.
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.
Maestro.
The Man in the Iron Mask.
Sorry guys, if you liked any of these movies I'm not saying you have bad taste, but you definitely have more patience than I do. I just can't deal with boring pacing and unlikeable characters. I can't.
I'm sure you can't either, but I truly can't.

Anna Torv and Sam Reid, having a good old laugh at the comedy impersonations of Helen and Dale prior to filming the scene! 😂
.
.
When Michael Lucas entrusted me with the secret that there would be a Fast Forward tribute in our Season Three, my heart fluttered with excitement! My biggest pop culture wish for the show was about to come true! After being introduced to it at age eleven (2011) by my dad, Fast Forward became my first true retro media love, and I have soaked up every clip I could find of it over the past fourteen years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Running between 1989 and 1992 for four seasons on Channel Seven, Fast Forward was an extraordinarily influential and successful sketch comedy show in Australia. Born from a handful of the members of The D Generation (including our very own Marg Downey), this show became essential viewing for Australians, as we laughed along to the antics of these incredible comic performing and writing talents week in, week out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters such as Janelle and Chenille, Dumb Street, the SBS Lady and Lynne and Carmel became a part of the Australian psyche, and we had memorable parodies of Jana Wendt, Derryn Hinch, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen and Tony Barber too, just to name a few! There were even music parodies, often lead by the singing brilliance of Gina Riley. After the conclusion of Fast Forward, productions such as Full Frontal, Big Girls Blouse and Kath And Kim were put together by some of the Fast Forward team members.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In The Newsreader’s S03E04 (One Team, All Brothers), Helen and Dale sat down to watch comedians parody them on a sketch programme, which was heavily inspired by Fast Forward. It’s hard to believe, but this idea only came together two weeks before filming of Season Three began, as Michael told me on my visit day. Fast Forward was known for its sudden intercutting of its sketches using a static sound and screen; simulating channel surfing and making each episode a jolty and exhilarating viewing experience. This was also emulated in The Newsreader too!
Well there we go! Fast Forward is canonically a part of The Newsreader. How extremely lucky am I to have yet another niche interest of mine covered in the show! 😍

On a small note, Bishop's designs do something interesting in 03 that I don't think I've seen anyone mention? But his outfits between the main series and Fast Forward utilize a light/dark motif that highlights how his character has changed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His main design is black with hints of white underneath. An evil person with good motivations underneath it all. His Fast Forward design is a white dress covering black clothes underneath. A seemingly good person covering up an evil history. I just think it's neat.
Also check out the 1870s fit
