Living a Slow and Purposeful Life as a Christian 🍲✨☕️🌷

In today’s world, we are often told to do more, achieve more, and be more. Social media can amplify this pressure, showing us glimpses of others’ seemingly perfect lives, accomplishments, and busyness. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking we’re falling behind or not doing enough. But as Christians, we’re called to live differently. Our purpose isn’t found in worldly achievements but in living a life that glorifies God and reflects His peace.

Here are some ways to live a slower, more purposeful life centered on Christ:

1. Prioritize Time with God

Start and end your day with God. Spend unhurried time reading the Bible, praying, and meditating on His Word. This sets the tone for a day that’s focused on Him rather than your to-do list. Jesus Himself often withdrew to quiet places to pray (Luke 5:16).

Tip: Use a physical Bible instead of a Bible app to avoid distractions from notifications.

2. Focus on Relationships, Not Tasks

It’s easy to get caught up in rushing through our days, but Jesus teaches us to prioritize people over productivity. He stopped to heal, listen, and minister to others, even when He was busy. Make time to truly connect with others—family, friends, coworkers—and show them Christ’s love.

Tip: Schedule margin into your day so you have time to respond to others without feeling overwhelmed.

3. Simplify Your Life

Examine your commitments and let go of activities or responsibilities that don’t align with your God-given purpose. Overcommitting often leads to stress and distracts from what truly matters.

Tip: Ask yourself, Does this glorify God or bring me closer to Him? If not, it might be time to let it go.

4. Be Intentional with Social Media

Social media can create a false sense of urgency and comparison, making us feel like we’re behind in life. Limit your time online and follow accounts that inspire your faith, not your insecurities.

Tip: Set specific times for social media use and consider a day of fasting from it each week to refocus on God.

5. Embrace Rest as a Gift from God

God created us to rest. He rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2-3) and commands us to do the same. Rest isn’t laziness; it’s obedience and trust that God is in control. Take time to slow down, enjoy creation, and recharge.

Tip: Create a restful Sabbath routine that includes worship, prayer, and activities that refresh your soul.

6. Live in the Present Moment

Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow because each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:34). When we rush through life, we miss the beauty of the present. Ask God to help you be fully present, whether you’re spending time with loved ones or doing mundane tasks.

Tip: Practice gratitude by pausing throughout the day to thank God for His blessings.

7. Let Go of Perfectionism

We often rush because we’re striving for perfection or trying to meet unrealistic expectations. Remember that your worth comes from Christ, not your accomplishments. Rest in His grace and allow yourself to slow down.

Tip: Replace thoughts of “I should be doing more” with the truth: God’s grace is sufficient for me (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Living a slow and purposeful life as a Christian isn’t about doing less; it’s about doing what matters most. When we make God the center of everything we do, we can step off the treadmill of busyness and embrace the abundant life He offers. Let go of the rush, and let His peace guide your steps.

Generational Faith.

Not only have I yet again been successful in *not* burning down our kitchen,

Christian Dating Advice, Finding Self-Worth in God, and Presenting Yourself Well

Your worth isn’t based on appearance or status but on who you are in Christ. Meditate on scriptures like Psalm 139:14 and Ephesians 2:10, knowing you are deeply loved and created with purpose.

3. Date with Purpose

Be clear about your intentions to date for marriage, not for casual relationships. Communicate your values, such as celibacy and a Christ-centered partnership. The right man will honor and respect your boundaries.

4. Focus on Character Over Chemistry

Look for a man who demonstrates faith, integrity, and kindness rather than solely focusing on physical attraction. A God-honoring man will appreciate your inner beauty and values.

11. Surround Yourself with Godly Community

Seek friends, mentors, and a church community who will encourage your faith, affirm your worth, and hold you accountable to your values.

Jesus Himself set the ultimate example of obedience. Philippians 2:8 tells us, "And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient—His obedience was the pathway to our salvation, and it underscores the profound blessings that come from aligning our will with him who loves us.

My thoughts on the umbrella of authority:

The umbrella of authority is a ranking system created by Bill Gothard, the founder of IBLP. This system ranks the authority of each person in a family unit. (+ Religious figures).

Before I continue I’d like to make it clear I am not affiliated with IBLP, and I am 100% aware IBLP is a cult. This post is purely to explain what I, an average Catholic, thinks of that system.

The order of the umbrella of authority:

❥ Jesus Christ

❥ Pastors

❥ Husband

❥ Wife

❥ Children

While the documentary Shiny Happy People made it sound as if this entire concept was created by Bill Gothard: It wasn’t. The concept does come straight from the bible.

By no means is this to say the bible speaks of this concept to the same extent, however.

Bill Gothard took the order of authority to an entirely different level. A very misogynistic and predatory level. Bill Gothard’s version of how women should submit essentially meant being completely docile and in a way it was legal sex trafficking.

Biblically speaking, submission does not mean being completely docile, nor does it mean letting a man do whatever he wants to you.

The bible says that if a man cheats on his wife, he should be k*lled. The bible also says that you should always leave a relationship with an evil person. This very clearly applies to domestic violence.

The bible does not in any capacity support a husband being disloyal or violent towards his wife.

In fact according to the bible a man should…

❥ Praise his wife and speak highly of her (+ If you have children teach them to do the same)

❥ Love his wife the way Christ loves us

❥ Always treat his wife with understanding + honour her

❥ Always treat his wife gently

The order of authority in my mind is less about who has power and more about who provides for who.

Jesus died for us to go to heaven. Pastors spread his word to help us get there. Husbands provide financially for their family. Wives provide for their husband and children by taking care of the home and making sure they get to live happily. Children grow up and repeat the process.

Overall I do not think Bill Gothard’s interpretation of the biblical order of authority is correct. The order is correct, the beliefs behind it are not.

Again: I am not affiliated with IBLP. I know they’re a cult. This post is not in support of them or Bill Gothard at all. I’ve just been watching Shiny Happy People and wanted to talk about what the average Christian thinks about it.
