"But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Therefore comfort one another with these words."
1st Thessalonians 4:13-18

I ease into the quiet of Sunday, tensions unwound by projects put away, cares softened by clean bathrooms, floors, and counters. Busy packed away and slow brought out of the closet and readied on the couch. Just a taste of her I enjoy now along with my coffee, the quiet snores of my family sleeping, and a few minutes of middle earth. Then, off to church to celebrate the day. Rejoice! Later, a full soak in slowness, a full simmer in rest. The quiet of Sunday.

When 6yo was baptized, my Catholic in-laws were like, Episcopal priests can get married, right? Is your priest married?
And I was like, yeah, and begging Jesus not to let them ask any follow up questions.
Because Fr. Tom? Was married to Earl. Who is a phenomenal baker and a really nice person and also, as you might guess from the name, another man.
(Also, I'm pretty sure, a Buddhist, just to make it more complicated)
So Fr Tom retired, and we now have an interim priest, because that's how the Episcopal church rolls. The diocese assigns us someone to take care of us for a couple years while we look for someone permanent.
(And I think most of us would hire our interim priest permanently and be thrilled about it, but she appears to be gunning for a job with the diocese)
Did you notice I said "she" in that last parenthetical?
I try to keep from discussing our current interim priest with my in-laws.
Because Mother B is a woman. And Black. And Latina. And married. To another woman.
And while Husband and I are like, cool, she knows her scripture and handles church admin like whoa, this is fine, his parents would probably spontaneously combust if they knew all the details.

After years of not fitting in socially, including in church, I joined a really fun Young Adult group. At the new church, I got to help tear down decorations, and one of the members helped me figure out where to help. I got to be myself and caught everyone off guard.
A few weeks ago, we had a "White Elephant" gift exchange, where you bring a random item you don't want, and you get what someone else didn't want.
I... I got a grapefruit. My family loves grapefruit. Someone got a Christmas gnome, which had to be regifted. (The women's Christmas dinner had a party game. The present included a gnome. The person, that won it, was terrified of gnomes... from working with a coworker that made gnomes for a hobby... Those numerous gnomes stared at her during her 2 AM job...)
We shared jokes that night, and a lot of inside jokes were born. My favorite of the night was the napkin holder. Basically, Person A got a blue napkin holder holder, and someone else asked "Is that a taco holder?"
Person B remarked, "Don't give him any ideas!"
But it was too late. The taco holder was born.

Surely I am with you always!
Surely I am with you always!  by Octavius Winslow“And surely I am with you always, even to the very end of the world.” Matthew 28:20   Are you going through a sorrowful affliction?   What a Friend,    what a Brother,      what a Helper,        is Jesus!   Never–no never, does He leave His suffering child to travel that mournful night unvisited and unsoothed by His presence.   He is with you…

Top three most awkward moments
3: When someone is introducing you
2: Having to sit as everyone stares at you and sings the happy birthday song
1: The moment right before a group pray ends when there’s this long stretch of silence to see if anyone else is going to pray and there’s just this moment we’re were all listening to each other breathe until the pray leader says “Amen”

"Holy, Holy Week, Batman!"
“Robin, there is something seriously sinister afoot.  It seems the people of Gotham have lost their sense of the story of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.”
Burt Ward as Robin, and Adam West as Batman, in the 1960’s TV show In some Christian traditions, Holy Week – observing the last earthly week of Christ’s life on earth – is either forgotten or neglected. And those that do recognize and observe it, this week can too easily become just something we do every year, without much meaning behind it. The following is a tongue-in-cheek way of reminding us…

Navigating a God-Ordained Transition: 5 Key Insights
instagram
Embrace Movement for Growth: Transition is like movement; it's essential for growth. Without it, both people and movements tend to stagnate. Just as Peter wanted to linger on the mount of transfiguration, we must heed Jesus' call to build His church in new places.
Discerning Different Forms of Transition: Transition can be physical, spiritual, or a blend of both. Discerning which type you're experiencing is crucial. Seek guidance through fasting, prayer, and wise counsel to navigate this journey effectively.
Harvesting What You've Sown: The new season reaps what was sown in the old. Beware of the enemy's attempts to taint your new season with negative seeds like offense, bitterness, or hate.
Navigating Opposition with Love: The religious spirit often opposes transitions. Respond with love, honor, and intercession, rather than accusation, towards those resisting your transition and calling in the new season.
Overcoming Fear and Comfort: Fear and comfort are formidable obstacles in God-ordained transitions. Conquer them with the stones of faith and surrender: faith dispels fear, and surrender breaks the grip of comfort.
Remember, You're Not Alone: If you find yourself in a season of transition, know that you're not alone. God is preparing all of us for what's new and ahead!
Praying for everyone who's going through or about to go through such transitions from one position to another. May God give you guidance and wisdom so that you can follow his direction well. May the voices of dissension and bitterness and hatred be dispelled in name of Jesus. Pray for godly counsel to shared and be taken wisely with discernment of intentions and may there be prophetical guidance as well by God to show His glory throughout the whole process. Praise God for his love and concern in all our lives. Amen!

A Celebration of a Life Well Lived
We’re heading home after having been in Lubbock, TX, specifically to attend the Celebration of Life of my husband’s long-time friend, Doug Moore. Doug’s wife had already prepared us that the memorial service wouldn’t be a time of sadness. It would be a celebration combined with a praise service. Indeed, it was more than that. It was a challenge to us all to live up to our God-given potential. To…
