i got to church early today and leaned against the big crucifix for like 20 minutes before my choir’s practice.
my choir director noticed and said “i saw you having a moment there with the cross”
and my response was “well, how could i not?”
how could i not sit at the feet of my Lord? how could i not wash myself in His blood? how could i not ask Him to shelter me in His wounds? how could i not feel His embrace?
how could i not cry for Him? how could i not ask Him to forgive me?
I often think about how Jesus knew he was going to die. We often say how you never know what will be your last morning, your last night of sleep, your last moment of peace. Except Jesus did know, He knew it intimately. He knew His last time eating with those He loved, His last time to hug His mother, His last prayer. How precious were these moments for Him? The last time He had physically been with His creation had been in Eden. Now, wrapped in flesh, He had to give it up again all for the hope that He could again be with us, this time forever. The love of God physically hurts me sometimes. I feel how He misses me, and I dearly miss Him.

I've been thinking. You see a lot of stuff going around in Christian circles about how you don't *have* to give to beggars, they might just use it for drugs, you couldn't even help all of them if you did, etc. etc...
But like.
What if we did, tho.
What if each set aside the amount of money we thought we could afford for it each month, and just kept a couple 5$ bills in our wallets. And we stopped worrying about what they were gonna do with it and just tried to help? And once you're out for the month that's fine, because you know another Christian will have it covered. Like yeah most of us can't afford to sell all our possessions, but we've got $30, right?
You know, what if. What if we did. What if that was our legacy. Because man, it used to be. And I'm tired of it not being again.
Edited to add: if people truly don’t feel comfortable giving money, socks are also a very good option! I prefer the Dickies brand, as they’re durable and relatively cheap; a large package of the men’s large size can be bought for a reasonable price on Amazon.

i get asked a lot how I can be Christian if i don't believe in hell, but honestly, what's more important to me is the day someone asked me whether i loved God or loved heaven and feared God or feared hell. i began to finally understand that heaven, hell, purgatory, all of it-- it doesn't matter. i am not called in God's commandments to mark off the days as i wait for the afterlife, pledging devotion out of a desire for paradise and a fear of hell. i am called to love my neighbor, and to love Him. not to beg for a reward in heaven or to lose sleep over the idea of damnation. i am not here because I want something (or don't want something), I am here because I love Him.

My parents are both (lapsed) Catholics. They raised me to appreciate religious studies and to look into other belief systems. My sisters are of pagan faiths or atheists, and they've been really helpful into widening my horizon and scope of the world.
As a (lapsed) Catholic, I don't think the other religions are ''fake''. I think that Jesus said Love Thy Neighbour and that everyone has a bit of the divine in them.
So genuine question. Do people of different religions think other religions' gods are fake? Like for example if your god created earth and my god created earth then is someone lying? Or do they acknowledge the existence of other gods but like in a multiverse of madness kinda way

"the idea of religion and culture being distinct and separate is very much a Christian idea designed to help Christianity spread as much as possible" or it was designed to not force people to leave their culture in order to convert so that people who converted could still be culturally what they were
Like. I understand the point you're trying to make but you're phrasing it as if Christianity while being an oppressed minority group was like "ooohhh let's colonialize and destroy cultures" instead of it actually just being Saint Paul going "No, you do not need to give up your culture to follow Jesus. God loves you and your culture is fine as long as Christ is above it" it is very much supposed to be ANTI colonialist
