i get asked a lot how I can be Christian if i don't believe in hell, but honestly, what's more important to me is the day someone asked me whether i loved God or loved heaven and feared God or feared hell. i began to finally understand that heaven, hell, purgatory, all of it-- it doesn't matter. i am not called in God's commandments to mark off the days as i wait for the afterlife, pledging devotion out of a desire for paradise and a fear of hell. i am called to love my neighbor, and to love Him. not to beg for a reward in heaven or to lose sleep over the idea of damnation. i am not here because I want something (or don't want something), I am here because I love Him.

Hey, you! The Novena to St. Brigid Starts Tomorrow! (1/23)

Mural of Brigid in Co. Kildare
St. Brigid is an incredibly important and inspirational saint for the Irish people, the Irish diaspora, women, poets, children with abusive fathers or an unstable home, healers, blacksmiths, firefighters, midwives, people giving birth, dairy workers, chicken farmers, sailors, scholars, nuns, pro-choice acitivists, women's ordination activists, travellers, AND MORE! 📚
You may already know that there are heavy connections between the Irish goddess Brigid and St. Brigid. The pagan Brigid is a triple goddess, and not in the "maiden, mother, crone" way. She is Brigid the healer, the smith, and the poet. She is a goddess of fire- the inner fire, the lifeforce, the hearth, the fire of the forge, and the fire of inspiration. In fact, her name means "vitality" or "strength." Imbolg is her holy day. 🔥
St. Brigid is a canonized Catholic saint who's said to be the "Mary of the Gael," showing just how relevant she is to the Irish people. She's started her own monastery and was a travelling missionary. She's especially known for her generosity. She's often depicted as holding a shepherd's staff, something only bishops are portayed with in iconography. As it happens, Brigid may have been (and I believe that she was) one of the first ordained female bishops within the Catholic church. 😇
Now, many Catholics will insist that St. Brigid is a serpate human person from the Brigid of mythology, and many pagans will insist the same. There's debate surrounding the literal historical existance of a human saint named Brigid. My personal belief system is syncretic. It's obvious that St. Brigid's life stories have taken heavy inspiration from pagan tradition. There are some obvious differences as well. It's my personal belief that Brigid can and will express herself in whichever way her people, and any people, will recieve her. Back then it was pagan spirituality and a goddess culture. As time marched forward the Catholic church became Ireland's favorite inlet to the Divine. Brigid is a goddess of multiple persons and infinite possibilities. I don't think it's too much of a jump to veiw the two women as emanations of the same personality. It's also been shown time and time again that Irish folklore has transformed and survived through Catholicism. The love for Brigid is no exception. 💚
Here's a wonderful podcast episode telling some stories from the saint's life, as well as diving into the syncretic nature of Brigid.🎙
Here are some prayers you could use for your novena leading up to her feast day, Feb 1st. To pray a novena, you simply select a prayer or prayers to St. Brigid that speak to you, and pray them for nine days at the same time each day. A candle lit in her honor during your prayers (or even a perpetual flame, if you know your fire safety and wanna get fancy) is a nice touch but not required.🕯
Prayers listed by a Catholic community in support of inclusivity and women's ordination.
Prayers and traditions surrounding St. Brigid
More prayers, including a litany to St. Brigid
Hopefully during this Imbolg season I'll be able to post more about the goddess and saint Brigid. St. Brigid, pray for us! 🕯
Beannachtaí agus go raibh Naobh Bríd leat 💚🙏🔥

Cemetery Reviews #2 - Campo Santo
Campo Santo is the old cemetery of Zapatoca. It's quite small, and people are no longer buried there. Even so, what you see there is very special. There's a mausoleum, and although there are few tomb inscriptions, the ones that remain are quite old. I saw one from 1819, a death one year before independence. There is also a tomb of a German fugitive who lived a semi-feudal and lavish lifestyle in the 19th century.
Although his colonization and trade projects failed and his life ended in ruin, he has a tomb enclosed in its own fence. The guy also has a street named after him. Even if the foreigners who come here don't end up doing much, it's still cool to remember them because it's curious that they pass through here. The chapel is very small and only has a few benches, but the tombs, already piled up among themselves, are covered with grass, moss, and the trees surround the site. To get there, you can also climb a street with long stairs, and from the end, you can see the town from above. In a way, it's like you have to climb a little closer to heaven to see the site.
For these reasons, the bits of history, the curious characters, and the location, I found it to be a very beautiful place with a very fulfilling atmosphere.
8/10

I fucking hate Christianity. Christ is cool as homeslice would've ripped these crispy-créme pieces of dogshit a brand-fucking new asshole. I've been lied to my whole fucking life and by perverted incel men who think that just because they have a dick that they're somehow fucking special. Spoiler Alert: The Abrahamic "god" is the actual fucking devil. The real God had to fucking clean up after that piece of shit all the damn time! Sin doesn't fucking exist! If people were smart and read of Mary Magdalene they'd see but NOOO!!! A WOMAN IN CHARGE?! OH THE OUTRAGE!!! While the archbishop and head deacon play circlejerk in the basement with an empty wine bottle.
Best part? I don't just live anywhere! It's the fucking bible belt (ironically getting it's ass kicked by storms, but no, it's just a conspiracy theory 🤮.) I'm glad there is only one town with this name, it is one too many! Negative one is too many!
Fuck the South, fuck Christians, fuck churches, and most of all, fuck anyone stupid enough to believe that fucking bullshit.
They can't thump their almighty Trump-signed bibizzles without being a fucking snake and shitting on it. I am so glad reality is in reverse. I'd rather scrape bones out of a pit in the forest and dance in skins around a fire under a full moon than look at these "friendly, well-bred" Southern inbreds any fucking longer. The kitschy fake shit got old when Dolly Parton got her fifth boob job in '82.
I can't wait until the Vatican burns. Maybe Nuclear Assault will actually hang the goddamned pope.
I don't fucking belong here on Earth anyway, I never did and never want to. It makes me want to bash my head against solid concrete.

Saint Isidore the Farmer
1070-1130
Feast day: May 15 (New), March 22 (Trad)
Patronage: Farmers, laborers, national rural conference in the U.S. and rural communities
Saint Isidore the Farmer, also known as St. Isidore the Laborer, was born in Madrid, Spain to a farming family. He married Maria de la Cabeza who was also declared a saint. Deeply religious, St. Isidore attended Mass daily, though never neglecting his labor. Many times his guardian angel would take up the plow while he lingered in prayer. He loved the poor and animals, miraculously multiplying food for both.

So in the tradition of the Church St. John the Evangelist is considered to be the youngest apostle og Jesus and I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!! Why you may ask? It's this verse right here.
John 20:4 "Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first."
Tell me that this is not youngest sibling behavior! Look me in the eye and tell me that telling everyone that you hve outdone your older sibling in something is not youngest sibling behavior!
