Woke up this morning thinking about this scene:
“He’s made of wood too. Why do they like him, and not me?”
and how it’s such a subtle and masterful callout of the Catholics who don’t even seem to realize that they’re failing one of the most basic tenets of their faith. Like yeah, speaking as an insider, one of the most common failings of people who claim to be Catholic is that they think they’re immune to or above certain human behaviors, but in actuality they’re just as capable of pride and hatred as the people who crucified Jesus were. It’s so easy to get caught up in a sense of moral superiority that it can make you entirely blind to the whole point of Christianity--humility and unconditional love. And that kind of thing is what makes outsiders think that it’s our faith that’s the problem, when it’s actually our failure to live out that faith that hurts people. And Del Toro manages to capture that entire discussion in just a few scenes and a handful of words without ever coming across as spiteful or angry and HAVE I MENTIONED THAT THIS MOVIE IS VERY GOOD? HAVE YOU PICKED UP ON THAT YET?!

Could you all pray through Saint Jude's intersession for my peace of mind? I've been feeling a very uncharacteristic bout of anxiety, though I trust the Lord has a remedy for me
Thank you all, I'm praying for you all too :)

Ok, WHERE IS THE IWTV FANDOM THAT IS NOT TALKING ABOUT LAMBS OF GOD?!?
You guys. You don’t understand. I just watched this miniseries, it’s only 4 episodes. But you have no idea what you are missing.
WHY HAVEN’T ANYONE WATCHED THIS
Sam is a priest. We have priest Lestat guys. There are witchy nuns. I repeat, WITCHY NUNS. He almost dies several times, but somehow he’s always surviving lol He wears a cassock. Yes, I’m talking to you Midnight Mass-ITWV people. Hot priest wearing a cassock. ALERT, ALERT. He’s also wearing very few clothes in lots of the scenes. Do whatever you wish with this information.
Does it have heavy themes as abuse, racism, church doing bad things? Yes. It does, but the stories of the characters are really good. Priest Sam has a sister in it and she’s freaking badass. We love Frankie in this house ❤️
You might not like the religious aspect of it (they are, in the end, Catholic nuns so you know, they are faithful to God and all of that). But trust me, you’re in for a treat if you like Catholics being naughty (in every sense), hot priests, women bonding and, of course Sam Reid - who is, by the way, phenomenal. Not that we didn’t know already that he’s an amazing actor, but seeing him doing other characters just as well as he does Lestat only proves the point that he is, indeed, THAT GOOD.
So yeah. Go watch it. After that, go write some fics. Post the fics. Let me know when you post the fics. Thank you.

Do you have more Catholic Bradley headcanons? I also see him as Catholic too 🤞 and I'd love to hear more of your thoughts
(ps love your fics!)
OMG!! (Thank u btw ily)
OMG!! I love Catholic guilt Bradley!! I will say, straight up, I’m not religious, and I never have been, so I’m not VEry familiar with Catholic stuff, but I’ll try my best to get the ✨vibe✨ sorry if I get anything wrong and they aren’t very specific, I’m not very confident with the details despite my research lol
-he used to go to confession almost every week after school, desperately trying to do anything to quell the impending sense of panic that came with all the thoughts about boys (of course)
-he was one of the only kids in his parish that went that frequently, and his parents used to brag that it was because he was because he was wise beyond his years, and would do anything to be in God’s good graces
-the first time he went to a high school party with weed, he went to confession every day for a week
-quickly however; he starts to use recreational drugs and drinking to quash the impure thoughts, he mumbles a quick prayer of forgiveness every time he finishes a drink, but it doesn’t stop him, the guilt got murky when he was under the influence
-he stopped going to communion and confession when he was 18, he tells his parents he still goes, but he doesn’t feel like he’s worthy of gods good graces
-he was really close to a boy in his parish, they spent services together, they would run around outside of church after services while their parents spoke. When they were 15, they hid in the pews while everyone was milling around outside and he kissed him. Bradley freaked out, and pushed him over, and he cracked his front tooth on the tiled floor. His parents berated him for hours and hours, and he sees the cracked tooth and the smile of the boy who made his haunting thoughts a reality in his nightmares, because he LIKED it.
-it confirmed everything about how he saw himself, it wasn’t a hypothetical, or just thoughts anymore. He spiralled for a few weeks, refusing to leave his room or his house, except to go to church. His parents thought he had come down with a stomach bug. The boys family moved pretty quickly to another church after this incident, and Bradley never saw him again, sans in his head every night for years.
-speaking of nightmares, when he was a teen, he used to wake up screaming, so much so his parents tried to take him to a doctor, but obviously there wasn’t anything physically wrong with him. It morphed into just waking up soaked with sweat.
-when he was 24 he starts the painful process of deconstruction with the help of Max and Tank’s support, and his parents don’t take it well at all. They cut him off completely, and his mom secretly sends him periodic messages saying she’s praying for his soul, and that she hopes he might one day make it to heaven. He never replies.
-the guilt gets smaller, but there’s moments he reaches for his rosary, and he finds his tongue knows the shape of prayers no matter how old he gets.

Catholicism is so interesting to me and I want to learn more about it, but online sources are often confusing, wrong, contradictory, or just in bad faith. If there are any Catholics on here that want to talk and possibly teach me more about the faith, I would be extremely appreciative!

Please tell us everything about St Piran! 🍪 (and also pls pretend this is a scone emoji)
aww bless you!!!! So st Piran is the patron saint of cornwall and he's taken VERY seriously there, his flag (a white cross on a black background, symbolising white tin on black granite) can often be seen flying in people's gardens, on buildings and especially on people's cars - my dad and sister both have a sticker of his flag on their car to show cornish pride: 〓〓 (< this doesn't work on darkmode)
St piran is said to have brought christianity from Ireland - according to some he was a priest in ireland and performed multiple miracles until the king got angry and threw him off a cliff tied to a rock, but because he was god's specialist boy god made the rock float him all the way down to cornwall, where he rediscovered tin smelting (a practice lost since roman times) and brought prosperity to the area. at the time cornwall was still worshipping their celtic gods, and he apparently built the oldest christian church in britain down in perrenporth.
He's also the patron saint of lots of things to do with cornwall - tin miners, cream clotters and pasty crimpers (lol). His feast day is on the 5th of march, and lots of employers and schools across cornwall give their employees/pupils the day as a holiday to celebrate.
Also, according to wikipedia "His first disciples are said to have been a badger, a fox, and a bear", where is his disney film??
Thank youuuu you know i love a patron saint and also even though i'm actually from devon not cornwall, the cornish are CORRECT that cream teas should be jam first.

I had a dream last night that I made this post about two of the biggest causes of miscommunication between Catholics and Protestants. Woke up and thought it might actually be a useful post irl, So...
Quickfire Translation Guide for Two of the most Problematic Terms for Intermingling Christians:
Prayer:
Catholic def: The chief mode of personal communication with God. Not strictly a form of worship (our main form of worship is the Mass), which is why Catholics believe prayer can also be used to ask the angels and saints to pray for them as well. This is what they call the Communion of Saints, and is the basis for the Catholic tradition of asking the Virgin Mary for her prayers. Catholics will actually ask just about anyone in Heaven to pray for them, but Mary is their favorite due to her unique relationship with, and understanding of God as the Mother of Jesus Christ.
Protestant def: The chief mode of worship and personal communication with God. Because Protestants view prayer as strictly a form of worship, they do not pray to anyone except God. This is why some Protestants believe that Catholics actually worship Mary, while Catholics maintain that they really don't.
Salvation (sometimes interchanged with the term Redemption):
Catholic def: A broad term encompassing all that God has done to rescue humanity from sin and death. There is also the salvation of the soul, which is defined as the moment a soul enters Heaven to be with God for all eternity. This is why Catholics don't use the term "Saved" when describing someone's spiritual state, because they view a person's entire life as one long journey to receive the salvation that God has prepared for them, and because of human free will, one could theoretically opt out of receiving that salvation at the end of one's life (a strongly ill-advised option, but an option nonetheless). This is also why Catholics always look so confused when a Protestant asks them "Have you been Saved?"
Protestant def: Can be used in the broader sense, but more often refers to the act of accepting Jesus into one's heart and therefore securing a place in Heaven. Protestants will often use the term "Saved" to describe someone who has done this, with the underlying assumption that that person will remain in union with Christ until they die. This is why Protestants always look so perturbed when a Catholic answers the "Have you been Saved?" question with a blank stare and a confused, "Huh???"

something I find really funny and also really important to bear in mind is the theory that Peter and Paul did not get along very well
mainly because of Peter, but that's just Peter being Peter lol
there are two reasons for that that I've heard (both from my dad, he's a brilliant person; absolutely one of the smartest and wisest people I know) but one's a lot more 'Peter-esque' than the other
the first is that Peter found St. Paul's writings to be exasperating to read due to their long-windedness (which is funny because my mom and I have always loved making comments about Paul's writing, especially since I adore his way of writing, and emulate it constantly)
but the other is more sentimental, and it sort of shows what person Peter really is - He's not your "ideal human" or anything; he's just a simple fisherman with a hot head and a large faith (there are somewhat plausible speculations, actually, of his epistles and writings having been merely orated by him, but written by somebody else, since he may have been unable to write)
the second one is that Peter never really got over Paul's condemnation and persecution of the Christians under Saul
I think this one is a lot more beautiful and, if I may, human
Peter was so genuinely hurt by Saul's actions against his people that, when Saul just sort came up and said "Well, y'know, so like, God appeared to me, knocked me off my horse and everything, I'm gonna join you guys" out of the blue, Peter probably had a little bit of a hard time accepting that
which all sort of ties into this profound message of how Mercy and Love is so hard to show
it's up there as one of the works that Christians are known for, as well as one of the hardest things to do in life
to truly Love people such as Nero, Hitler, politicians, hateful people, ignorant or lazy persons, and especially those who affect you so deeply? to still want the absolute best for them, and work for that, even after hate is wrought? that's hard
Loving someone isn't denying the fact that they are bad, nor is it being pushovers for them, nor even learning to enjoy their presence
Loving someone is simply working for their ultimate good, and their place in Heaven
and even Peter struggled with that
everyone struggles with that
so remember, we're all having a hard time with something, which makes us as humans so much more universally together

The passive aggressive water bottle of pettiness is here! (Two of the stickers are references to my dysautonomia and hypermobile joints.)
(you can find the story of why it got started here)
Video includes my toddler's little hand and a ghetto way at censoring my location (one sticker is of my parish).
@truthfultales, you'll probably enjoy this most.
