Steve’s Endgame Ending fixed

What if at the end of Endgame when Steve is returning the stones, he has to give up something he loves, right? So what if he gives up his super-serum effects (an au tweaked and borrowed from @growingpaynes-art ), and turns back into pre-serum-Steve? A list of reasons why I think this would work:

A) Straight off the bat it’s easy to keep Steve in the MCU with Chris Evans’ contract ending if they replace the actor who plays pre-serum-Steve (obviously with a guy who looks similar to the first movie, but without the CGI). I know people might be confused why he looks different but the MCU’s changed actors before and it’s not the hardest stretch of the imagination. Also thematically it’d be cool to have Steve be literally unrecognisable to the audience.

B) I think a lot of writers for the Avengers are so focused on writing ‘Captain America’; ‘bland, stoic, with no sense of humor’, that they forget about Steve Rogers; the young disabled man who would put his life on the line to fight fascists. This would be a great way to get back to the basics of Steve’s character and show the audience who he truly is.

C) Honestly it would just be nice to show that Steve is just as righteous and brave with his disabilities, something not often shown in media. Even the MCU likes to focus on Steve’s asthma and ignore that he actually was disabled. (which i’ll touch on in a second).

*and now for some more headcannon-y stuff*

A) From screenshots from the movie, and a list at Disneylands Tomorrowland exhibit, the canon list of Steve’s disabilites and health problems are:

B) It’d be cute to see Steve actually be able live with his disabilities, unlike in the 30’s. I cannot stress how much eugenics there was back then (and still is now, but WAY more casually acceptable back then). Even the actual Captain America storyline reeks of it a bit; experiment on a disabled man to ‘fix’ him and turn him into a soldier. However in the 21st century imagine if he could get the help he actually needs! Obviously a lot of his stuff is chronic, but he could actually live with it instead of just surviving like he would have done. And be able to afford them, unlike back in the Great Depression. Back braces, inhaler, mobility aids etc. It’d be nice to see a disabled person living with themselves as the HAPPY ending, instead of as a tragedy as it’s usually played.

C) The story of him actually seeing worth in his old (new?) body and himself instead of just a vessel for Captain America. A self-acceptance arc. Being able to retire in peace without anyone recognising him as Captain America without having to give up his life in the 21st century.

D) The Smithsonian exhibit is so closely tailored to his propaganda persona that it fails to acknowledge him as a person. I wouldn’t be surprised if the general public has never even seen a photo of him pre-serum, or knew how bad his illnesses were besides ‘just asthmatic and skinny’. He could easily walk around and not be noticed by anyone.

Tldr: Steve’s proper ending in Endgame should have had him return to his skinny form in exchange for the stone, and him being able to retire to finish art school in peace.

so i came up with a rough idea for a scott pilgrim inspired litg au where you have an evil ex from each season (minus season 8 since it's coming out now)

Bobby would be the main character, which I didn't want at first because he's the most popular LI but I think his personality seems the most likely to get into this situation (minus the Scott Pilgrim being an incel but that's why it's inspired and not a one to one). Also works since he's in a band.

Obviously MC is his dream girl (Ramona in the movie). Could probably have Noah be his roommate, who is bookish and also a little sick of his problems. Then you have the other band members: Lottie is the drummer (who is also Bobby's ex who's still a little mad at him), idrc who the guitarist is lol, and then I think it'd be funny to have a character who wants to be in the band but they don't let him until the end and that should be Felix.

The stuff about Knives I understand is important to the Scott Pilgrim story but I'm not a huge fan of the "dating a high schooler" part lol. Still, we can have a character that he's dating who's all in and he is not but he doesn't have the heart to break up with her and ends up breaking her heart anyway, and that's probably Hannah.

MC shows up to his concert and then you meet the first evil ex, Dylan. And MC is like oh they dated for a week in middle school and after she broke his heart, he kind of became the asshole we know him as now. (the only reason I'm picking Dylan first is because I think Matthew Patel is one of the more cringe exes and I just simply couldn't do that to anyone else in s4, plus after the exposition he just gets thrown away anyway).

Next, Bobby, Noah, and MC all go visit a local movie set and they see her next ex, Rafi. I don't know why I always picture Rafi with his like weird smouldering face, but that honestly works well with this character, if you've ever seen pictures of Chris Evans in this movie. Because there's a skateboarding aspect in this, I did consider it should be Jamal, but for the bit I already picked a s6 character so it had to be someone else lol.

Anyway, Rafi gets defeated by his arrogance and then Bobby's band is playing in a contest, where he sees his ex and her new band mate/boyfriend, Mason, who is also MC's ex. As for Bobby's ex, it doesn't matter too much but I could see it being Yasmin since she's also a singer, Priya because she canonically is a fan of Mason's band (i think?) and there are routes where she's initially coupled up with Bobby, or Elisa because I think on some s2 routes she goes for Bobby but also I just like her aesthetic compared to this character in the movie. Also I just think either of them look good next to Mason (maybe they don't fit personality wise but they'd look good)

So Mason gets defeated, probably not with the vegan thing (but if we switch Mason for Levi, I could believe that), but something silly other than physically beating him. Next ex is Bonnie, who is clingy as hell. I don't think we should keep the part where Ramona calls it her like college experimentation stuff because that's not a great stereotype, but I kinda like the idea that Bonnie thinks they were in a relationship and had something but MC is like, no, clearly not.

The next exes are the twins, and so I had no other choice than to make this Ozzy and Marshall. I also think MC probably drove them apart and then when they finally compared stories they finally became friends again and are out for vengeance. Anyway, they get defeated.

Last but not least, the ex to rival all exes, the titular character of s5, we have Suresh running this shit. He is so hung up over MC that he set up this whole league. Literally nothing about his character would make me think he'd do this (because this character in Scott Pilgrim is so malicious actually), but he is the "ex in the villa" so he's gotta be the final boss.

The room was filled with a warm fog that once would have calmed him. But now he could only think of the wet heat of sitting on a balcony waiting for death. He thought of the temperature difference between the cold sea water and the warm air. His hands shook as he tugged at the waistband of his gym shorts. A small voice in his head worried that if he actually took off his boxer briefs that he’d end up panicking and needing Eddie during the shower. He felt safer leaving something on but he knew he needed to get clean. There was no part of him that was ready but he still made himself take off the last bit of fabric. If Buck had to guess he stood outside the shower naked for about ten minutes. The sound of the water never stopped sounded like a death march but eventually he forced himself to step into the far end where the water was barely anything more than a mist.

Evan wouldn’t have entertained the joke except Tyler had lifted his pinky up. Evan had made plenty of promises with friends during high school. He had a few promises made and broken in college. Even some of the guys at the club would make promises of favors when someone would cover a shift. But Evan had only ever had one person in his life give him a pinky promise before. He stared at Tyler’s finger with his lips slightly parted from the shock. “What are you doing?” “It’s a pinky promise, duh,” Tyler moved to force Evan’s pinky to twist with his own. “Pinky promises are very serious and you can never break them.” “I know that,” Evan said with a small whisper. Tyler squeezed around Evan’s pinky and leaned in to kiss his own fist before he repeated the promise, “No birthday kisses ever.”

Evan felt the weight of an arm around his middle before he fully processed being awake. The weight felt like a lot of things: comfort, home, blinding heat, impassioned desire, but mostly it just felt like Eddie. There was a gentle comfort in waking up with his best friend there. Evan wasn’t sure how he’d managed to trick the star of the baseball team into enjoying his company but he wasn’t complaining. He shifted around a little awkwardly in order to face Eddie. There were a lot of things about his new best friend that Evan had gotten used to. Eddie was serious –a frown or a disapproving look were usually on his face. Edie was secretive –Evan had gotten close enough to learn that the small glint in his eye was his tell, if he was lying his eyes sparkled differently. But the thing Evan noticed the most about Eddie was how uncomfortable he was –not that Evan felt any better, but Eddie was going to graduate in just a few months and Evan wasn’t even sure if he liked living in his own skin. It was something he thought he made easier for Eddie, at least while they were alone in their room. When the rest of the school looked at Eddie they saw a very different person than who Evan was used to. And sometimes he wasn’t sure which version of Eddie was the real one.

Finding Buck was still concerning but didn’t strike as many of his chords. The boy was twenty so Eddie knew the ID wasn’t too far off –if the bouncer had bothered to check it at all. Buck tried to jump from the lap of the man he’d been talking to and flung himself slightly into Eddie’s unexpecting arms. “Mister Diaz, what are you doing here? Is Chris here?” Buck looked around like he expected to see his best friend hiding behind Eddie.  “No, Buck. And you shouldn’t be here either.” Eddie didn’t question what about him made Buck think he would be a cool enough parent to sneak his son into a bar underage. In the years that Buck and Chris had been friends, Eddie couldn’t think of one cool thing he had ever done.

Here's a bit of info about these wips and a snippet from one 🥰

Soulmate AU

You can't lie to your soulmate, so from a very young age Eddie decides that he's just never going to lie, because he doesn't want to know. He thinks the odds are against finding your soulmate in the millions of people in the world anyway, so why ruin a chance to be happy with someone else?

Buck on the other hand, has always dreamed about finding his soulmate, he's kind of a romantic like that. Such a romantic that he practically lies to every woman he meets, and every time he does he gets that pang of disappointment when it works so easily.

Truman Show AU

This is way more of a vibe than an on track fic just yet! But I had the idea that Buck was given up as a baby to a reality show set to follow a boy in every moment of his life from infancy through adulthood, and baby Buck soon becomes the heart of everyone's home, from the TV. The Evan Show is the most popular tv program ever, with peak audiences for his milestone events like his first day of school, his first kiss, even the day he tragically lost his father in a freak tsunami.

Now, Buck is nearly 30, with a beautiful redheaded fiance (😏) and a perfectly routine life. Only, it's too routine, too perfect. Things are starting to feel weird...

And then there's Eddie, who moves to LA with his son and gets a job as an extra in "The Dome" playing some part out of the way just filling up the world and making it seem real, he never even has to interact with Buck, at least not until he comes running panicked and looking for a place to hide as he questions the world around him. Eddie feels just as panicked, but somehow manages to talk him down and gets him to go home.

The next day Buck comes to visit Eddie and thanks him for what he did, asks him if he would let him buy him a beer to thank him. Eddie says he has to think about it, but that night after work Eddie gets called in with the director who said that his exchange with Buck the day before sent the ratings up, and they want to promote him, want to add him into Buck's friend circle. Eddie gets the impression it's either say yes or he's immediately out of a job, so he agrees.

What he didn't expect was to start falling for the most talked about man in America, and the more he falls, the worse he feels about the life Buck's forced to live, and he wonders if there's anything he could ever do to get him out.

Addict Buck / Spiralling Eddie AU

(this is one I've been thinking thinking about a lot and have so many ideas for, it was supposed to be smaller and for last year's angstfest buuut the idea got away from me and I didn't want to rush it!)

Eddie is at his lowest. His parents took him to court to take Chris away, and won. So they forced him back to Texas with them, leaving Eddie alone in LA. They won't even let Eddie talk to Christopher, telling him that he needs to let him adjust first so he doesn't confuse him. Eddie starts getting angry, so Lena (from his firehouse at the 136) suggests taking out his anger constructively by fighting. It's too good an outlet for Eddie, and he quickly ends up fighting in an illegal underground ring for money, leading to him getting suspended from his job at the fire department. The fighting ring starts to feel like the only thing Eddie has left, even though he knows how destructive it is, he doesn't care. He doesn't care about anything.

That thought is weighing on his mind when he's walking to the edge of a bridge and staring out over the river by some abandoned workshops, wondering what the hell the point is anymore when he can't even talk to his son.

That's when he bumps into a stranger in the dark, clearly high on something. They have a tense exchange and Eddie leaves, but for some reason he revisits that spot again a few days later and the stranger, Buck, is still hanging around.

They build up a kind of friendship, and it soon becomes clear that they are exactly what the other needs to pick themselves up out of their low spots (even if they're a little reluctant to do it).

He closed his eyes and sucked the biting air into his lungs, filling him with cold, fanning the fiery anger that consumed him and escaping back through his split lips in a heavy cloud. "You know most people think your breath doesn't do that until below freezing." Eddie flinched, turning back to see a tall man approaching slowly from behind, hands shoved into his front pockets and eyeing him with a tilt of his head. "Excuse me?" was all he managed in reply. "When you can see your breath in the air, doesn't have to be freezing, hell, only needs to get to about 45," he said, making an 'o' with his lips until his condensated breath came out in a long thin line.  Eddie eyed him warily. He hadn't seen him when he arrived at the bridge, there's not much around save for a few derelict buildings and a foot path leading towards the overpass. On top of that, he could see the way his pupils were dilated, he was high on something, or maybe coming down.  "I'd say sorry, that I didn't mean to interrupt, but I guess I did," he said, keeping his distance from Eddie but not taking his eyes or his curious gaze from him. Eddie just grunted back at him, not sure that he should turn his back on him. He could probably take him in a fight, as long as he doesn't have a knife, but he doesn't really want things to come to that. His knuckles were still cut and bruised from his fight earlier and his brow throbbed from the left hook he'd been too slow to dodge. "Want to tell me what you're doing out here?" the stranger asked, and this time Eddie really didn't care what happened next, so he turned his attention back to the black over the bridge. "Could ask you the same thing. You always sneak up on people? Start conversations about the air, how cold it is?" he said roughly. And when you meet someone who asks you out on a date, Chris can't help but let his jealous side shine through, by crashing your very first date.

''I can't believe high school is finally done,'' you said to Chris as you were both in the kitchen at his house, baking together. Chris was making an apple pie with walnuts, and you were baking a classic cherry pie, which would always be your favorite. ''I know, but now the real adult life will start!'' he exclaimed, and it made you laugh hard. ''Yeah, I'm not sure I'm as happy about that as you are,'' you chuckled as you got your pie dough out of the oven. ''Well, as long as we can get through life together, we will be completely fine, Muffin,'' he said as he looked at you with a little smirk, and something you can't quite place shining through in his eyes. ''I know, Cupcake, I know,'' you sighed as you leaned over to grab the rolling pin that was next to him.

You accidentally stumbled a bit and almost fell, prompting Chris to drop whatever he was holding in favor of grabbing you before you both hit the floor and once again you were in his arms, where it felt safe. ''Sorry 'bout that, just needed the rolling pin,'' you said as you grabbed it and worked yourself out of his grasp, even though he didn't want to let you go. ''It's okay, let's just say it's a good thing I was there to catch you,'' he said and he winked before continuing to make his pie, which was nearly done at this point. ''Alright, just need to put it in the oven, can I help you with anything?'' he offered as he came to stand behind you, practically caging you against the counter with his body. You felt his warm breath glide past your ear and it made the hairs in your neck stand up a little.

''I- uh, I'm almost done, but thank you,'' you said to Chris as you felt his chest press softly into your back, making your breath hitch a little. ''Alright, I'll be right here if you need me,'' he said as he pointed to where he just worked, so he could clean up some of the mess he just made. He left you standing where you were and it immediately felt cold without him, but you didn't pay too much attention, because you were trying to make a beautiful top for your pie which needed your concentration. When it is done you can put it in the oven, you're always grateful for the fact they have 2 ovens, and the both of you often make use of them and no one complains because everyone enjoys both your creations. This was kind of your goodbye gift to everyone since the two of you would be moving to New York very soon.

A few days later it was finally time, you and Chris would officially make the drive over to New York together in your Range Rover. Chris decided to leave his car at home so his siblings could use that one, and both of you could share yours. It was completely stuffed with everything you might need in the next few days and the last of your clothing which you still kept at home. The two of you decided to go pretty early in the morning, so by the time noon came around, you were already over halfway on your way to New York. ''Want to make a stop for some lunch?'' you offered as you decided to pull the car off of the highway and onto the parking lot of a little diner. ''Sounds good, I'm starving over here!'' Chris joked the two of you had more than enough snacks to last you a week.

When you found a parking spot both of you got out, happy to finally be able to stretch your legs a little bit. Chris groaned as he stretched his back, and you were happy to finally be able to walk around and get some of the feelings back in your legs after driving for multiple hours on end. ''Wanna switch when we're done, Muffin? I don't mind driving the rest of the way so you can just relax a little,'' he said as he walked over to the door of the diner, opening it for you like a true gentleman. ''Thanks, Cupcake, and yeah, that would be nice actually. As much as I love my car, it would be nice to just relax for a few hours,'' you said as the both of you found a booth to sit in. You both picked up a menu and decided what to order.

You went for a stack of buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, while Chris went for a lunch consisting of a cheese and ham omelet with toast on the side. Both of you got a milkshake to share and a big piece of lemon meringue pie each to finish off your lunch. ''That was amazing,'' you said as you walked out the door, Chris just finished paying and now you would resume your drive to your 2-bedroom apartment, which you would be sharing with Chris while the two of you were in college together. ''M'lady,'' Chris said with a smug voice as he opened the driver's side door for you, giving you a small peck on your head as you got in, he couldn't resist it. You just smiled a little bit, you always loved these small signs of affection from him.

The rest of the drive went smoothly and by the time 4 PM rolled around the two of you were completely settled in your new apartment. Everything you needed was already there or the two of you bought and got shipped over there, so you could just move in and not worry about any of it. As a present, all three of your parents have chipped in with rent for the first 6 months, so you could both get fully settled with school and a job on the side until you could support yourselves. Now, Chris was sitting on the couch while you got something to drink for both of you. ''C'mere Muffin, I need some cuddles,'' Chris sighed as you walked in and you happily agreed, sliding onto the couch next to him and finding your usual spot with your head on his chest, his arm around your shoulders.

The next two weeks of your vacation were spent mostly preparing for the upcoming school year by getting supplies, you desperately needed a new laptop, and the two of you were looking for a job to get you through culinary school. As luck would have it, you were both hired to work at a diner that was a short 10-minute walk from your house, so it couldn't be better than that. You were hired as a waitress, and Chris was hired as a chef in the kitchen, but you both enjoyed doing what you did, it was a bit of a break from your regular lives. ''Damn, Muffin, you look delicious in your outfit,'' Chris said the first time you wore your work clothes, consisting of a red pinstripe dress and a white apron to give a bit of an old-time diner feel.

Most of your shifts were spent working alongside each other, but Chris just couldn't help and flirt with you sometimes, much to the dismay of your colleagues, because they all had a crush on the new chef, and you couldn't blame them if you were honest. ''Are you two datin' or somethin'?'' Joy, a fellow waitress, asked one evening during your break. ''Oh no, we've known each other since we were kids and have been best friends for nearly 15 years now,'' you shrugged. ''And now we're roommates since we're both going to attend CIA this fall to get our degree in Baking and Pastry Arts!'' you said with a proud smile on your face. Joy, however, wasn't entirely convinced, but she left it at that, all it meant is that she had a chance with Chris, or so she thought.

During the summer both you and Chris worked a lot, and you had befriended pretty much everyone who works at the diner. One night, at closing, one of the chefs working in the kitchen alongside Chris, asked you out on a date. ''Y/N? Can I ask you something?'' he started, not sure how to ask you out. ''Of course, Jessie, anything!'' you said with your usual cheery voice. ''Would you, uh, would you like to go out with me sometime?'' he asked with a bit of a shy voice, and it made you giggle a little bit. ''Actually, that sounds nice. Did you want to grab dinner tomorrow night? I saw we were both having the day off,'' you offered and he happily agreed. ''You have my number, so just let me know what time I have to be ready and I will be waiting!'' you said before starting to count the registers, you were pretty excited about it.

Chris had to work the next day, so you could get ready by yourself which you were pretty happy about, if he would've been there he'd surely been all over you about your date. Jessie texted you that the two of you would be going to a pretty fancy restaurant, so you opted to wear a light blue pants suit that matched your eyes. Your make-up was light and your hair was loose around your shoulders, framing your face nicely. Just when the clock hit 7 PM you heard a knock on your door and you opened it to find Jessie in a black 2-piece suit with a white shirt, looking pretty good. ''Oh wow, you look amazing, Y/N,'' Jessie said before handing you the flowers he got you. ''Thank you, I'm just going to put them in water and I'll be ready, you can come in if you want!'' you said before walking to the kitchen to get a vase.

''You have a pretty nice apartment here, do you live alone?'' he asked, and you told him how you live here with Chris, but he's at work so he's not here right now. ''Ah, I didn't know you two knew each other,'' he said, he was relatively new at the diner so you couldn't fault him for not knowing. ''Speaking of Chris, I'm just going to write him a note that I won't be here when he comes home, otherwise, he'll be worried,'' you said before writing a note about where you were and with who, so he didn't have to worry. ''Okay, I'm ready!'' you say as you grab your purse and keys, letting Jessie walk out the door first so you could close it behind you. When the two of you arrived at his car he opened the door for you, and then drove about 20 minutes to a restaurant called 'Gramercy Tavern'.

When the two of you were seated you were quickly waited on and when the waitress wanted to offer you some wine you had to refuse. ''I'm sorry, but I'm not of legal drinking age yet, so I'll just stick to water tonight,'' you said with a soft smile and the waitress smiled back after apologizing. ''How old are you, if I may ask?'' Jessie said, a pink tint on his cheeks. ''Don't worry, it's nothing illegal! I'm 19 so I still have to wait a few years to be allowed to drink,'' you explained and he let out a sigh of relief. ''I'm sorry, I should have asked sooner,'' he said and the two of you let it go. The conversation actually flowed pretty well and by the time the two of you were almost done with your main course, someone stumbled towards the both of you.

You looked over and your mouth just hung open, you couldn't believe Chris just showed up when you were on a date with someone. ''Chris, what are you-'' is all you could get out before he leaned over the table facing you. ''Why did you not tell me you were going on a date with someone? And him, of all people? You have to be kidding me!'' he said as he raised his voice, embarrassing all three of you. ''Chris, please-'' you said but you didn't get the chance to speak. ''What happened to you calling me Cupcake? You haven't called me Chris in literal years,'' he said with a pout and you were done. ''Jessie, excuse us for a moment,'' you said before getting up and grabbing Chris by his arm, and dragging him outside.

''Are you out of your fucking mind?!'' you said with a raised voice when the two of you finally were outside. ''Why the fuck do you think you have the right to embarrass me on a date like that? I don't belong to you, Chris, so you had no fucking right to pull the stunt you just did! All I did was have dinner with someone from work who I might want to get to know better, but you have ruined every. single. chance.'' you yelled at him, you were beyond angry at this point. He never pulled anything like this before, and you weren't going to let him get away with it now. ''I just-'' he started, but this time you didn't let him finish. ''Please go home, Chris, we will talk about this when I'm home, which is probably going to be early after the shit you just pulled,'' you said through gritted teeth before walking back inside.

Chris thought about going back inside and going after you, but he decided against it, he was going home and he would wait for you. ''I'm so sorry for him, he usually doesn't act like this and I don't know what came over him, we're not together or anything, he's just very jealous,'' you sighed when you sat down at the table where Jessie had patiently waited for you to get back. ''It's okay, don't worry about it. Let's just make the most of tonight,'' he said and you did. After dinner, the two of you went for ice cream and then he dropped you off at home.

The two of you were standing in front of your front door, as you said ''Normally I'd ask you to come in, but I don't think that's smart with what just happened,'' you said as you blushed, but Jessie just grabbed your hand and gave it a soft squeeze. ''Like I said, it's okay. I had a great time tonight, and I'd love to do it again if you'll have me,'' he said and you happily nodded. After that Jessie softly put two of his fingers underneath your chin to lift your head a little bit as he leaned in for a soft kiss, and when your lips molded together, you heard the front door open and Chris practically pulled you inside before you could even say goodbye to Jessie. Now you were officially done with Chris and his jealous antics. He's not going to know what hit him this time.

You don't really want to know but the thing is I'm going to punish you for this cheekiness by answering you!

Now our X factor is that Chris Evans had some serious braces at a young age, which I confirmed by googling one minute ago, but he has that vibe anyway. Like you can just tell that he had jacked up teeth when he was like 8 and it was ridiculously cute and then he had his teeth perfectly straight by puberty when suddenly you want your teeth to be perfectly straight. His smile is just so wide! He loves his teeth!

But of course Movie Steve has Chris Evans' teeth post braces. Which is inaccurate, fight me MCU, I'll die on this hill.

For the sake of my AUs I will assume Steve was naturally gifted with a mouth full of teeth as charmingly troublesome and full of personality as he is. I think in most modern settings he would have had some level of orthodonture for actual non-cosmetic reasons. If his mom is a nurse it's reasonable it was within range of the budget.

The variable is how old he was when he got that movie star smile. Did Steve go through junior high with imperfect teeth? High school? College? It's a subtle thing.

this is for my prince buck au!

Eddie would not recommend that anyone fall in love with a prince. It is, objectively speaking, a terrible idea. It can only end in heartbreak and it’s not worth it.

Except it totally is, of course.

But it's so stupid, feeling the way he does, because the first thing Eddie learns about Buck is that he's going to marry someone someday— preferably a nice girl, from a wealthy family and good reputation. It’s the first thing that Queen Margaret told him when she hired Eddie to protect his son— or more like, to make sure her son doesn't get in trouble.

Eddie thought it'd be perfect. The job pays extremely well, he's far away from his parents and he can give Chris a comfortable, nice life.

Except, is not easy to be the personal bodyguard of one Evan Buckley.

The guy is reckless, pulling stupid stunt after other to mostly piss off his parents. He's too cocky for his own good, stubborn to a fault and he makes Eddie's job harder than it needs to be.

Evan Buckley is a pain in his ass, if he's being completely honest.

And yet… Eddie went and fell in love with him.

Eddie's never been the type to ask very many questions; he tends to stay quiet and observe, and he's good at it. But when it comes to Buck… he can’t. The prince just has this talent to push Eddie’s buttons in the most infuriating, intoxicating way.

Their first meeting hadn't been the best— not at all like Eddie picture it would go the first time he met a prince.

The thing is, Evan Buckley isn’t every other prince in the world. Other princes would have had Eddie punished, when they first met, because it was not, by any standard, a good meeting. It was the end of a long day of talking to all of the people forming the security staff of the Bukingham palace. He found a lot of stupid little mistakes that could potentially cost the royal family's safety and Eddie was just in a sour mood. So of course Buck came in making demands to go to this stupid party with zero time to plan anything.

Eddie told him right then and there that if he wasn't willing to treat him with a modicum of respect, Eddie wouldn't respect him. (It was an incredibly stupid thing to say to a prince, by the way. He definitely doesn't recommend doing that.)

He remembers how Buck opened and closed his mouth twice before leaving without another word.

The next day, he apologized. "I'm sorry about yesterday. It was— I just— I'm always here, you know? And if I'm not, I'm always with my parents or where my parents tell me to go." Buck had explained to him, surprisingly open and honest. "And I know you must be thinking I'm a spoiled brat… I just needed one day to go out and breathe, I guess."

And in that moment, Eddie had felt a connection to the prince. This sort of kinship. Because even if the situations weren't the same, Eddie could understand where the guy was coming from. He remembered how it felt when he was just a stupid teenager and got his high school girlfriend knocked up. Eddie's parents had been relentless and overbearing— Eddie could understand what Buck was saying it's all.

Your head thuds with the pounding of the hammer. Curled up on your chaise, you try to take a nap to no avail. There’s no way you’ll be able to, not with your handler’s friend fixing the bed.

Shadow curls at your feet, resting his head on your legs. You’d tried to send the dog out to run through the garden—knowing how the noise must be hurting his ears. But he’d remained stalwart, immovable. You let your fingers pet his wiry hair.

The hammering stops and footsteps approach. You lift your head.

“It shouldn’t give you problems now,” the man says, low and gruff.

You try to remember his name—Carter? Curtis? Cory? Lloyd did introduce you when he arrived, but there’s nothing now. Unable to make the name materialize in your head, you simply say, “thank you.”

I have written exactly one “crack” fic before. I wrote it in high school with my best friend about the Jonas Brothers and the main character’s name was Chicken Wing. I still have the handwritten first draft. (does this count as personal lore?)
